Hello everyone... been so busy for the past week haven't been able to catch up with you guys, I hope everyone's ok. I've had my mother in law over from cyprus to meet her grandson and this week has been full of appointments, six week check for me, hip scan for Luca and health visitor for Luca. Everything's going well, my cs scar has finally closed up and is nice and dry and healing well. Luca's weight gain is still spectacular... 8oz this week. In two weeks he's gone from 7lb2oz to 8lb9oz. I'm so happy about that, it makes all those hours glued to the sofa feeding him worthwhile. The only downer is that he's got thrush in his mouth and nappy area. It's most probably because I've been on antibiotics for the infection in my cs scar, luckily we've caught it early, so now I'm putting daktarin on everything, his bottom, my nips, and gel in his mouth. Hopefully it'll go quickly. It obviously hasn't affected his weight gain though! I hope Bella's thrush has gone Laksa.

PLP - I'm glad you've got a date for cerys' op.... it might be a bit of a shock that it's so soon, but it's great to get it over with. I hope her weight gain recovers and the gaviscon works.

sophus - well done on being so amazing keeping things together in this week, which I imagine will be so hard for you. I'll be thinking of you, take care.

sorry I haven't really been able to catch up more, we're off to a wedding in Birmingham today and packing for Luca is pretty daunting, there's so much to take!! I've resorted to putting him in his sling while I pack/do the laundry/tidy up/try and work out how to make his car seat a bit more comfortable for him. The reason???? dh is best man and has left it to the day before the wedding to write his speech, so he's stuck to the computer frantically writing while I do everything else!!! [hmm}

Have a lovely weekend everyone, hope to catch up more properly next week!

xx

Good morning everyone hope you all had good nightswith your LO's. We had quite an unsettled night. Managed to get him off to sleep again at 8.30pm. He managed to do another whopper poo and comletely cover himself and DH(gave him a cuddle without seeing all the leakage) so we had to give him a bath, think the bath wipes him out I managed to do the dream feed at 10.30, he didn't wake up and took 70mls however he was awake at 1.30 and 3am for more food. I left him grizzling still at 4.30 in his cot, then he was wake again at 7.30 and has only just gone back to sleep now! He just isnt a happy bunny today
Fettle - at the bilirubin levels dropping. Arben does the smiling followed crying, like you we convince ourselves they are proper smiles. He does however do his fair share of smiles and poking his tongue ou(DH does it, which is then copied).
MrsMar - Luca's weight gain is fantastic, makes it all worth while doesn't it? Enjoy your wedding and all the cooing over Luca which will inevitbly(?sp) happen
Kyala - good luck with the potty training, I really am in awe of those of you with other children, i struggle with one let alone 2 or 3 others
Twit - just wanted to say thanks for your tips the other day, it was very helpful. May sound silly, as i am sure alot of you are the same age, but it is like having a group of extra mummies on here, its very reassuring

kyala · 25/10/2007 13:18

Hello all

Mrsmar: Trust a man to leave it to the last minute eh?! My DH is exactly the same, on a weekly basis!
Had a bit of a giggle, not at you, that your LO still doesn't even weigh as much as mine did at birth!! LOL Trust me to have a big baby, must be the "birthing hips"!

Blarg to the potty training! It's all gone silly! Today it is the last thing on my mind, in amongst all the washing (DD2 decided to puke on everything this morning during her feed, in bed with me, so that's blankets/duvet cover/muslins/bibs all gone into the washing machine) and DD1 is in a rather demanding mood, although she's allowing me some time to type this lot! But I've promised her this afternoon is our time for crafty-ness, I plan cutting and sticking she wants painting, who will win I DECIDE!! LOL

Had quite a nice night last night, after a nice cuddle in our bed with DH, it was off to my bed (albeit rather cold) and straight to sleep at about 11, Ok so DD2 then woke up for a feed at 12 but I felt like I'd had loads of sleep! LOL and then straight back to sleep until 5am, not bad I reckon.

I've told DH that we've got to start bathing DD2 more often before bed, she might settle for longer, and it might encourage me to go to bed at a better time too!
Anyway, must be off DD1's nearly finished with her lunch, bring on the glue stick!

lol at doing everything one handed. almost everything i do nowadays is one handed. babyTwit has the hiccups atm which he doesn't like much.
everyone else is out at the moment so instead of catching up with housework im here lol.
glad to be of some use k

[hobbles of on walking stick to finish knitting in her rocking chair]

kyala · 25/10/2007 21:37

Is anyone else utterly confused as to why they've changed the format here?
Blooming annoying I was just getting used to it too

Twist: My LO has had constant hiccups (all through the pregnancy too) I've found the dummy a god(dess) send as it regulates her breathing and gets rid of them quicker

I'm bored bored bored! DH is watching the football and so here I sit with nothing better to do, for the first time since having Lucy mind you!
I might just go to bed you know! but Lucy will only wake up, you know she will!

What happened to the spooky smileys? I was loving them!

Ooh duty calls Lucy's awake again (only about half an hour after I thought she was finished feeding :P )
night all

kyala, at the top of the page just under the 'useful stuff' line you can click to change your mumsnet back to how it used to be (sorry if you've already realised this)

Morning All

Hope you all had a good night. Well Poppy's still suffering terribly with gas and the infacol and colief didn't seem to do anything so I invested in the Dr Brown bottles but I have been using them for 2 days and they haven't done anything to help either. She also didn't like the teat as it was harder for her and wouldn't take her feed as she got bored on sucking so we have swapped back but through the night she wouldn't take all of her feed either. She has been really really grizzly this morning so I think she might be slightly under the weather.

I can't wait for the weekend so that DP can help look after her and I can get a bit of a break. It's sods law but she cries all day and when he get's back she's good as gold so he probably doesn't beleive me!.

Morning all

Well me and Ben have a cold too, my throat is killing me, luckily I can take the cold and flu tablets seeing as I am ff so feel for those of you that can't, seems everyone has it at the moment. Well I'm not sure whether it is his cold (struggling to suck and breathe I think) or the fact that the colief drops ran out and it was back to infacol yesterday but he didn't feed as well yesterday and was very unsettled and crying all day. I struggled to get 3oz down him at each feed and that was spaced over an hour each time It also seems that every 3 days he is particularly bad which co-incides with him not pooing for a day, he then really struggles to get it out. Other than that things seem to be going ok, I'm averaging 5-6 hours sleep a night, a feed with Ben takes about two hours in all by the time he has settled afterwards, oh for an 8 hour stretch

Had a lovely moment with ds1 this morning..... NOT, for once I gave him his bath this morning as he really needed one Came downstairs to see Ben as he was crying, went back up to be confronted with a poo in the bath... lovely

Nicki - the Dr Browns bottles seem to be helping with Ben as regards wind, but it does seem to be taking him a lot longer to get the milk down. I think I am going to make the hole in the teat larger and then next time I'm out get the next size up on the teats.

Kyala - I'm not keen on the new layout either so have changed it back to the classic one
Ben also has hiccups a hell of a lot, I find a sip of cooled boiled water and his dummy helps out

The HV came out yesterday to weigh Ben, he has put on another 10oz's this week, that's a total of 1lb 5oz in three weeks, he is now 10lb exactly.

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 26/10/2007 12:50

morning all

please try weak fennel tea for wind it does help, honest.

kelmcd · 26/10/2007 13:21

Good morning!! Well all new 'routines' went out the window last night. Arben is going thru a stage of not pooing for a day or two, which upsets him no end, then having a whopper poo which provides him with relief. He is isn't eating very well today either has only had 15mins max from the boob since 7am, he is also vomitting what he does take. Anybody have any clues, not sure if hes coming down with this cold or he has a tummy upset. How can i help him poo? if he wasn't upset by it i wouldn't be bothered but he really is not happy
Hope you are all having good days

diddle · 26/10/2007 15:52

hello ladies, well i was due in Sept and recognise lots of names on here so i hope its ok to join you, even though Oliver was born the 5th October.

Thought i'd see how you're all doing. Ollis is our 2nd baby, and i seem to have totally forgotten everything to do with babies, even though his brother is onyl 15 months older! What has happened to my brain?

Ollie is sleeping all the time, he is now 3 weeks, and feeding like clockwork. the only thing disturbing him at night is nasty painful wind, anyone else's little one suffering from this? Ollie won't bring up his wind after some feeds, but will gladly sleep. Then suddenly wake in agony and cry very loudly. any tips??

cupcake78 · 26/10/2007 16:03

Hello ladies

Would like to join in if ok. Had DS 4 weeks tomorrow and have been reasurred to read alot of you are going through the same settling period as we are.

DS was 9lbs + when born he is now 11lbs. Started BF but he was so hungry and fed continually that after 15 days moved him on to fully ff. Since then he has made less fuss over eating but has been constipated off and on. Apple juice and warm water seems to work well at helping him nut can put him off his next feed leading to hime being "drip fed" for an hour at a time.

He is a windy baby but insists on taking a full 4 oz bottle in one go when he is really hungry. If you stop to wind in the middle he just screams, making wind much worse. He is a real gussle guts.

Sleeping patterns are everywhere his clock is back to front. He feeds everynight at about 10.30pm, 1.30am, 4.30am and then at 6.30-7.00am. Feeds during the day depend on how much he decides to take if 4oz+ then he can last 4 hours, this only ever happens during the day!! but sometimes he only has 1-2oz and hence needs feeding again sooner. Would love to get him to take 4ozs at each feed to try and regulate his feeds abit more and hopefully cut how many times I am up in the night. Any hints!

diddle · 26/10/2007 16:11

cupcake,

We had a few days of DS feeding backwards too, very odd.

If you want him to feed for longer and take more then you need to wake him up after he's nodded off. I usually resort to stripping Ollie off waist down and doing his nappy, he hates it. soon wakes him up and makes him take more. sometimes he'll take it whilst asleep. But i had a night two days ago where he would only take 2 ounces and i was so knackered that i just put him back to sleep, and he woke up every 2 hours all night. so its worth making him have more. he's obviously got room if he'll take it during the day. good luck

cupcake78 · 26/10/2007 16:25

diddle

I have tried waking him up, nappy, stripping off etc etc and he isn't having any of it!! the only way to break the pattern is to let him sleep and him wake up on his own. Which means the long sleeps are during the day. So affecting his night feeds etc etc.
Give him a dummy for as long as he will accept it then give him a bottle can sometimes put him off and make him more hungry but usually just results in tears from him and headache for me.

MrsFish · 26/10/2007 16:29

My ds has started going through a phase of only having 2-3 ounces per feed, its very annoying seeing as up till now he has been having 3-4 ounces every 4 hours. He is also crying between feeds, but stops as soon as I pick him up I keep trying to leave him but the crying is doing my head in, I don't think its because of wind, because he stops when I pick him up. Oh and stripping him off doesn't work, he just flat out refuses anymore than the 2oz's...

cupcake78 · 26/10/2007 16:31

But the above has just ment we are going round in circles. As well as trying to ease is constipation because that also affects his feeds and maked them more frequent but less quantity.

My mum has suggested a very small amount of brown sugar in one of his feeds to make him poo. She used to do it to me. But not sure if this is advised.

If I could get the constipation sorted permanently. Then the feeds would regulate and I could start to gradually move them to adjust his clock.

BUT don't know how to do it!!!! without breaking his feeds up with apple juice and warm water.

cupcake78 · 26/10/2007 16:37

MrsFish

Ditto, Over the last few days DS has been crying for no reason but stops when we pick him up as well. I wondered if it was because he was feeling a bit rubbish due to constipation and was becoming a bit clingy.

Chattyhan · 26/10/2007 16:58

Hello everyone - just to say i'm still alive! Sorry i haven't been around my computer just seems to be gathering dust at the moment - far to much else going on!

Alex is nearly 6 weeks and doing fine - i'm still bf and his weight gain is good. He goes approx 3hrs between feeds day and night although we have had a couple of 4 hr stretches at night. During the day he is quite unsettled and likes to be held alot or pushed around so i find i get on better out and about rather than sat at home. He is suffering a bit with colic, but don't they all at this age! Been using infacol but brought some colief only to find it's virtually impossible when bf! DS1 is driving me mad and we have generally more bad days then good days at the moment. Just attention seeking tantrums and being difficult He starts playgroup on mon (hurray) but doesn't want me to leave him so i think it could be a tough couple of weeks while he settles in. DP is behaving ok but working lots. He is djing everynight this weekend which means i have to struggle with dinner bath and bed on my own but he's helping me more around the house when he's not working, but to date has only changed 4 of lo's nappies!!!!!

Anyway i'll do my best to catch up with the thread and some of your individual news but much love to all of you xx

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 26/10/2007 17:13

mrsfish over the 3-4 hours how much is he taking? dd and babyTwit both had/have 3ish oz every couple of hours, which worked out fine in the end. Would it be worth putting babyfish in a sling for the worst of it? Babytwit is a pest in the evenings and this has helped.
cupcake try plain water [a little bit before each feed]. OR FENNEL TEA

With regard the back to front days its all new to the babies, we have to teach them day and night. babytwit did this last night, very annoying. It was my fault though, not giving him 8ish pm snack, he fell asleep waiting then had his bath a bit early and was too tired to have a good drink at 10pmish and kept moaning on and off every few minutes for an ounces worth until 12.
So tonight he will have his 6ish and 8ish snacks, a bath at 930ish and be in bed feeding around 10ish [he loves baths and hopefully not wake until morning [ie 5-6ish] well, we'll see and I'll let you know on monday if it works

I should point out that sleeping through for more than a normal amount before feeds at night is pure luck*
And brandy lol

MrsFish · 26/10/2007 17:40

Twit - He has been having about 2-3oz's every 3 hours, up until wednesday he was having 4oz's every 4 hours and not half as much crying in between feeds I have a sling my friend bought for me but he didn't seem to like it when I tried yesterday as it covers him too much. I'm gonna gie it another go now

MrsFish · 26/10/2007 17:50

He really doesn't like it He looks uncomfortable too squished and too hot (its a fleece coorie sling btw and he has just screamed till I took him out.

kyala · 26/10/2007 17:58

Ah I see they've changed the way to get the Hallow'een smilies, love 'em

Thanks Loopyloulisa, I eventually figured it out LOL

Hi Diddle: Congratulation for you on little Ollie's arrival, hope it all went well Twisty says weak fennel tea for wind, you can get fennel tea bags (Hipp organic) from Boots, also you get sent a few if you join they're mother/baby club thing!

Wow Cupcake my Lucy was born about 5 weeks ago and she's nowhere near 11lb! She was 8lb 12oz when born, my milk must be like water

It looks as though I'm pretty lucky where night time is concerned, although it doesn't feel like it at 5 am, it's so hard to get used to this all over again!
Anyone got any tips on how to keep a 2yo pre-occupied whilst I'm bf-ing? I've found she gets very annoying when I'm bf-ing, always climbing around me or trying to hug me or Lucy, I've tried turning the TV on to her favourite channel- doesn't work, tried having her just sitting next to us and watching/talking- doesn't work. We've always got toys out for her to play with but she doesn't want to play with them at that particular time, happy to once I've finished feeding though I've even tried putting her in the naughty corner for the duration if she gets too rough (usually ends up with me having a headache due to the constant crying though
I can just about bare it at the moment but if anyone's got any tips it'd be a good help

Well, that's all for now, it's the weekend so I've got somethng to look forward to! Plan on taking DD1 swimming at some point and DH's parent's are trying to get us all together (got a feeling it's in honour of his bro's wife getting preg. . . not sure if I want to go if they're all going to be hyped up about it, long story, can't be bothered to go into it, and anywho DH knows I come on here and my nickname is easy to spot), and we've got loads of sorting of junk to do (yup the same junk that needed sorting as I waited for the nesting instinct to kick in )

Have a good weekend ladies, I shall be in again on Sunday
x

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 26/10/2007 18:15

no, babytwit didn't but he doesn't mind it sometimes now.
So over 24 hours he's having about 21 ish ounces [probably more] which is ok really I think. Plus he may no longer be growing so quickly atm, having found his feet so to speak.

MrsFish · 26/10/2007 18:23

Yeah that's right. I'm not worried about the amount he is having just more the hours between. I was happy with the 6 feeds in 24 hrs not 8 which it is turning into. I guess I should be lucky that that is all I have to worry about hopefully it will all change again in a day or two.

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 26/10/2007 18:23

i give my dd a drink, snack and the fairies when it's feed time in the morning, then its usually dinner time, then she's asleep, then teatime, then bedtime [hers] so I'm lucky in that our 'routine' happens to fit like this [with a little persuasion from me lol]
