I've not tried a potty as don't have one but I do hold Arthur outwards with his knees up and legs hanging down
We were doing well but now no poop for two days again. So frustrating

Megan2018 · 19/05/2020 15:54

Hello all, kept forgetting about this thread as on the facebook group much more.

I’m just back from my first socially distanced walk with an NCT friend. It was so good to see someone!! We both live very rurally so fortunate to be able to walk without seeing anyone. The babies couldn’t stop looking at each other! We took them in carriers-technically breaking rules as meeting more than 1 oerson at once but I fail to see how carried babies increase risk at all.

Felicity is doing brilliantly, not so tiny now. Weighs 7.5kg and 25th centile (was 0.4). She’s almost got her first 2 teeth and hasn’t cried or needed teething products yet. Obviously a hardcore baby Grin
Not quite crawling yet but not far off. Still bed sharing though!
I’ve extended mat leave until late Oct now due to the virus and hopefully will have Mondays off every week when I go back-work have agreed it informally but I want it in writing.

Geegrl19 · 20/05/2020 12:16

Hey everyone. Nate eating lots of food now. He's quite the piggy and I think he may have hollow legs. Ate a massive portion of lasagne for dinner. Glad he's at daycare tomorrow and I'm not changing those nappies. Speaking of which sometimes he has harder poo, but then once that's passed were on about 4/5 ooops a day! At least it's coming out I suppose.

He's got his two bottom teeth now, still sleeps terribly and is now pulling himself up to standing and then gets stuck. He still can't crawl properly and drags himself around. Very labour intensive 🤣

Have got some good food ideas from the above posts. I'm boring with breakfast and just give him weetbix and toast each day he's home. Occasionally he might get a pancake if another child is bothering to cook them as I'm far too lazy for that.

2018isanewyear · 20/05/2020 13:36

Hi, I have been on and off these threads (mainly off admittedly) as things have been running smoothly but after some weaning advice.

I feel like we are achieving very little ds is 8 months he was 4 weeks early but it hasn't effected him much. Started weaning at a little over 6 months and we are still on very smooth purées!!

He will only touch fruit which I now know if my own fault for not persisting with the veg ones. He won't even open his mouth for veg to try it at least. I give him finger foods and he doesn't seem to even want to put it in his mouth a toy on the other hand goes straight in.

I'm not sure what to try next. Sorry if this seems rambley first time mum and for the first time feel clueless!!

Dyra · 20/05/2020 14:39

@2018isanewyear I think all you can do is persist. My weaning poster says to try a new food at least 10 times (on different days!) to decide if a baby truly doesn't like it or if they're just rejecting it because it's new.

I haven't any experience with puree feeding, but have you tried mixing in a little veg puree with a fruit puree? Like apple and broccoli, pear and pea, peach and carrot? Get him used to having a little bit of a new flavour alongside something familiar, then 'introduce' it on its own after a few days.

I wouldn't sweat about the finger foods. He'll figure it out eventually.

@Horehound Hopefully yesterday and/or today saw some productive nappies again.

@Megan2018 How lovely! It is utterly ridiculous that a baby that cannot walk is included in social distancing rules. Amazing about Felicity! Getting so big and leaping up those centiles! Is the Facebook group active?

@Geegrl19 Great to hear Nate is doing so well with food now. LOL at the hollow legs! I'm sure he'll get there with his sleep... One day....

Alice is on a grand total of zero teeth. Apparently I was a late teether and cut my first tooth the day before my first birthday, so I suspect Alice is on the same path. Still crawling backwards, but she can turn now. So it's even more frustrating for her to be further away from her toys and facing a different direction.... Pulls to stand when holding our hands, but not really trying on furniture yet (thank God...). She's definitely a baby that hates being a baby. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Something I've noticed is that Alice only ever rolls back to front going to her left. Never to the right. She also seems to have completely forgotten how to roll front to back as well. It's not so bad since she much prefers being on her front on the floor nowadays, but at night when she flips onto her front she sometimes needs rescuing. She's fine and stays asleep most of the time, but if her feet and legs are touching the bars too much she has to let the whole house know about it.... Should I be concerned about this at all?

Horehound · 20/05/2020 15:38

@dyra oh we have had one more poo but nothing today although he is Mr trumpy so I expect one soon, fingers crossed!

I can't believe how hot it is! We got a new swimming pool cover installed and we've just opened it up for the summer. Got the best pump on so should be in it soon...cannot wait!
I've been outside with Arthur today but he will not keep his sun hat on! I tried baby suncream but now we are just sticky!

Arthur has two bottom teeth and I can see his top teeth cutting through now.
He really loved standing and walking about with us holding his hands and anything he can pull himself up on,he does. I think he will be walking before he is one actually!

Re weaning @2018isanewyear Arthur deffo preferred purees but I I torduced sticks of pears and cheese and he lives both and so that was our introduction to him picking up food and eating it.
I have pears delivered every week now. He loves blueberries too now. You will get there. I think looking up timelines and when babies should do x, y and z makes us feel like we are doing something wrong. There is no standard so just go with the flow :)

@dyra no I don't think you should be worried about the rolling. She will be doing some other kind of developing so maybe rolling is just on the back burner for now :)

I've had really huge full breasts recently. I'm not sure why but I was in agony last night and had to hand express some and massage a lot but still had hard lumps. And Arthur didn't have his morning feed this morning and not much this afternoon so I am wondering if it is because of the teeth.
Not sure but ugh my boobs are already pretty big so I hate it when they are even more stretched!

Horehound · 20/05/2020 15:39

introduced loves

Honestly my predictive text is shit! Apologies it's hard to read my posts.

2018isanewyear · 20/05/2020 19:45

Thankyou both I'll give mixing a try and try and give him finger food with each purée. I think your right i pay too much attention toon to what he should be doing f and when, he will get there in his own time : )

Dyra · 20/05/2020 19:49

Hurray! Going every 3 days is a bit better.

Ouch! I feel your pain. Alice unexpectedly completely slept through one night, and only wanted one boob's worth of milk in the morning. The one she didn't feed from then had some milk ducts block up. The result was one massive, sore boob and one regular boob. Not much longer before I can give it up. Or at least cut down to one feed a day. I do like our pre-bed cuddles. :3

Very jealous of your pool. 😝 I want to get out the paddling pool, but it just didn't warm up at all last time, even though it was direct sun all day. I think the bricks underneath (completely paved garden) leached the heat away, so I want to get some matting to put underneath for insulation before it comes out again.

I guess she is working hard on developing her standing. Her favourite thing atm is to be stood against an item of furniture with some toys to knock to the floor, then to shout at the nearest parent to pick them up immediately. Not so good at moving her legs to walk, but then not using her legs is the reason she's crawling backwards still.

Geegrl19 · 21/05/2020 02:38

@dyra must be frustrating for Alice, poor thing! They're funny aren't they. Nate never figured how to roll front to back. I don't think he'll crawl properly either as gets around efficiently by dragging. Probably why he's so happy hungry as it uses so much energy.

@horehound. Glad he pooped but horrid for them when they haven't gone. We had a putty one this morning. They stink too don't they

@Megan2018 great job Felicity going up those centiles.

@2018isanewyear don't fret too much re good. I was a couple of months ago but it all fell into place. Is very easy to overthink everything. I'm overthinking about dropping milk feeds now. Hoe is everyone goingbin that respect?

db92 · 21/05/2020 21:18

It's lovely to see all the update!

@2018isanewyear E was exactly the same until about a month ago and something just clicked. Much like others said it would when I came here to share my worries. I carried on with purées slowly making them thicker/ more textured and offered finger foods at lunch time, knowing that he'd not be starving if he didn't eat but wouldn't be too full to give it a go.

@geegirl wenseem to have just managed to drop a bottle in a way. He's decided he won't drink a particular bottle - he was still every three hours during the day having 5 in total. So we've dragged them to 4 hours- 4 bottles a day.

E is well away with crawling now. Stair gates are up to be safe although we did had a head bump last week which left a nasty bruise Sad. He's pulling himself up on every bit of furniture/ wall space he can find and has just started to turn himself around and look as though he's about to make a lunge for it.

Hope you ladies and the babies are coping in this heat and getting by okay either lockdowns x

Horehound · 22/05/2020 22:40

Uft well he's still getting constipated. Think this is day four and I could see he was trying. He was farting all day but still no poop. And this is still with medication although for two days we reduced it to just a single dose a day rather than two but obviously that was a mistake.

He also has his two top front teeth coming in now and between these two issues he's been having really disrupted sleep. He's already woken four times tonight and crying when he does. We've given him calpol now but I think that doesn't help constipation :(

How do you guys give your babies baths? In the early days we used a baby bath but when he got too big for it me or my husband would go in the bath with him and have it quite deep.
But I'm wondering if he can go in by himself now and have it shallower?

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 23/05/2020 11:00

Our nights are horrendous at the moment. She won't settle all evening - she wakes up every 20 mins or so and if she can't see me she screams. She's then up every hour or two through the night. Feeling totally drained - any tips!?

Geegrl19 · 23/05/2020 11:51

@horehound. We just have one of those plastic seats they can sit up in and we run a shallow bath for him. Would be like trying to control an eel if I let him free in the water.

@Littlehouseinthebigcity you poor thing. Is she teething? Does she still sleep in your room with you? Sounds like she just wants mum for the reassurance. Total killer. Have you tried co sleeping at all - not maybe what you want but anything for sleep...

Horehound · 23/05/2020 12:07

@Littlehouseinthebigcity we are the same although not every 29mins(poor you!) But every hour. Waking up crying. And I had to take him in with us last night but even then he only slept two hours then woke. We had recently been getting five to six hour stretches.
It's definitely his front teeth so could it be the same for your little one?
Also the constipation isn't going to be helping Arthur but I'm pretty sure the teeth are causing him more bother.

If it's not one thing, it's another!

Horehound · 23/05/2020 12:10

Right I've puréed some prunes and mixed with water so gave him some spoonfuls for lunch.
My husband said he was starving this morning and ate his porridge, a green fruit pouch and then a frontage frais.
Then along with the prunes he had small pieces of ham and one small piece of brown toast.
I diluted apple juice with water and he's drunk some of that so fingers crossed for poop today.

Horehound · 23/05/2020 14:54

25 min avo nap. Normally 1.5-2hour

Whyyyyyyyyyy

kyles101 · 23/05/2020 21:22

@Horehound maybe avoid the brown bread for now too? I know brown is better but go white for now. Also, does he get enough kicking about time with his legs?

We just have a bath mat in the bath for DS if he's on his own in it and run it so it's just over his ears when laying down. He sits and plays when we clean him then lays and kicks and splashes like a mad thing when it's play time. He'll do this easily 10 / 15 mins!!

Megan2018 · 23/05/2020 22:16

Too much fibre meant to be bad for babies isn’t it? I try to not overload Felicity which is hard when she loves carbs. Although we’ve not had any constipation yet, she poos 5-6 times a day at the moment instead (solid but soft). It’s at least easy to clean up.

We have a cheap plastic bath seat from Amazon and she loves it. It spins around and has a ball attached to the front and it’s a revolting shade of pink (comes in other garish colours), think it was about £12.

We will move to just using a non slip bath mat soon though I think once she’s crawling/standing.

Currently we have 2-3 hours of bed antics before sleep. Crawling attempts, rolling a d singing/babbling. Very cute but drives me crackers after a while. She sleeps well after though!

Leap 6 has been relatively ok and no sign of 8 month sleep regression here yet (fingers crossed!!)

Horehound · 23/05/2020 22:21

Well I was still giving some stodge because I thought they needed some weight to their poop otherwise it's most purée or fingers of fruit and veg.
Can try and reduce. Didn't get a poop today but did seem like he was trying again for a wee while.

Ah right so it seems we are the only ones going in a deep bath then! I read it as an activity to do on the NHS booklet and just did it every time.

Yeh he definitely kicks about, crawls and we walk him around and he's in his jumperoo. He's really active!

So usually he gets porridge, an egg, some slices pear, a finger of cheese, a savoury purée pouch, some toast, frontage frais.
Those are the regular things he eats. Where am I going wrong?!

Horehound · 23/05/2020 22:23

5-6 times?! Jeez Im deffo saving in the washing then
When I spoke to the Dr he said there is no normal when it comes to poop. Some people go once a week and some go 5 times a day.
But I'm sure Arthur is now witholding it. I'm going to keep on with the medicine until he forgets to do that I think

DustyDoorframes · 23/05/2020 22:45

@Horehound egg is binding so I'd avoid that! As are bananas.
DC3 is a bit prone to getting bunged up which is total shock as the other two were 5-per-dayers. She's having 3-5 prunes each day, minimal carbs and plenty of fruit and veg and that helps. Getting careless and letting the carbs creep up results in hard poo for us. Maybe as she feels fuller so has less milk??? They are mysterious creatures...
@Littlehouseinthebigcity that sounds horrendous!!! You poor thing! Are you co-sleeping already? You must be on your knees.
I think DC3 will have to grow up to be a football commentator. She spends significant amounts of time watching her brother kick balls and yelling. Still no great interest in moving! Lots of interest in dinner though- she had an entire courgette, several strips of red pepper, half a peach, two prunes and a handful of sticky rice, all in a sitting, last night.

kyles101 · 23/05/2020 22:51

@Horehound the egg jumped out at me too from that list. For carby type weight my go to is sweet potato wedges. I make a couple of days worth and stick them in the fridge. And butternut squash goes down a treat too, just roasted the same.

Horehound · 23/05/2020 23:00

Ah ok I'll lay off the egg then. Shame cause he bloody loves it. Wolfs it down!
I have given sweet potato and butternut squash but as a mash bit a stick so I'll give that a go then.
I knew about bananas so haven't really given him any.
He has pears, blueberries, avocado mainly

Horehound · 23/05/2020 23:04

Hmm maybe the yoghurt too could be bad :/
