Wow. 7 teeth!! C still only has one 😂 She's still a way of crawling let alone walking though she is starting to bum shuffle around which is good. Don't know if it will be enough to satisfy the HV though who was keen for her to be pulling herself up! 🙈

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 23/08/2020 13:15

Also the cake is lovely @Horehound - hope it tasted as good as it looks. Did Arthur recognise RaaRaa on it?

Horehound · 23/08/2020 13:28

Oh they all just make their own progress in their own time I hate the fact HVs think we should all be meeting certain milestones all at the same time, it's just not realistic!
Yes the 7 teeth have not been fun really, endless pain and not much breaks in between. I did wonder if having so many was normal!

Yeh the cake went down a storm it is sooo good. Yes he did recognise him and was grabbing at him and all the other animals hehe. We managed to get Ra Ra off in one piece and we will freeze him and put him on his 18th birthday cake!

@Horehound the cake looks amazing!!

We are on 8 teeth here at 11 months and signs of first molars starting to come through 😱😱 agree that there's barely any breaks in between. Hopefully it means they get them over and done with quickly!!

Geegrl19 · 23/08/2020 14:41

Aw, he's really enjoying his cake @Horehound. Numbers not bad in my region and only another 3 weeks to go before hopefully things ease again. It'll only come back though won't it. Melbourne under more severe restrictions and around 200 cases a day there at the moment.

Ha ha @dyra, yes boring is good after some of my luck I've had recently, lol. Hope the party turns out ok, fingers crossed

Dyra · 23/08/2020 22:14

Awww bless. Those pictures are adorable. 🥰 Make sure you hide Raa Raa away carefully. He's got to last 17 more years in deep freeze without being fished out and eaten by a hungry teenager!

I don't think we'll be contacted by the HV before Alice turns 1. Just 10 working days to go... Though it's not so important any more. She finally got around to babbling Dadadada yesterday. Such heart melting relief. It's so cute.

Stroan · 23/08/2020 22:46

Aww, look at that cake @horehound! And your gorgeous boy! Glad he had a lovely day.

I steer DD away from character cakes as I'm useless at fondant. I got away with it for her hungry Caterpillar cake but last year's under the sea creation was not my favourite. And she ate a whole fondant turtle the night of her party and was wired to the moon all night.

DS got a simple cake with sprinkles and a balloon topper, which he had ripped off the cake before we even blew the candles out! A week alter and we are still getting rid of the 200 plus balloons....

5 teeth here. Our friends little one is 3 weeks older and has 14 already. Such a rough ride.

Glad you've had some babbling @Dyra, hope the HV is in touch soon.

I'm on flexible furlough now and have two days of work this week so DS will be in nursery for his first proper days. I'm dreading it, but the benefit of having done this before is that I know there's still really good stuff to come and I won't miss out. (With DD, I felt like my world had ended!).

@Dyra the cake and balloons look amazing! I'll be Making E's cake. Nothing overly extravagant as I'll just stress too much.

8 teeth here too with a lot of biting going on! Will be so glad when the teething finally stops.

We've not heard from our health visitor either and I don't hold out much hope for them contacting us before his birthday. Not bothered though, I think he's hitting all of his milestones and am not worried.

yevans · 24/08/2020 07:35

We were contacted by the health visitor last week, they sent out two questionnaires then talked through them on the phone with just a few extra questions. All very quick!

Horehound · 24/08/2020 09:27

@stroan aw that cake is so cute, the balloon display looks fab too! Is that a colouring easel you got for a gift? That's a great idea!

Birthdays going forward I'll be making cakes. I just went a little overboard for his first hehe

@dyra that made me laugh...I actually think it'll be me that ends up eating him looking for a midnight snack one day lol. We will do very well if we can make it last another 17 years :D that's so sweet saying the daddadada! Arthur really hasn't said anything more than a babble yet but i don't think it's cause for concern just yet.

We've not heard anything from HV either but I don't mind, don't really need it now. He has is 1yr jabs next Monday then I start work the Tues. He is seeing the new nursery tonight whilst we will in all the paperwork then k think he will have a session every day this week before he starts next week although it will just be one day next week.
I want my periods to come back so I can get cracking for #2!! Still bf a lot though and this last week at night has been hell. Awake for two hours in the night (WHY?!) And going to bed late and waking early (WHY?!) And feeding loads. I'm sure it's down to teeth but can't be certain. I feel exhausted.

@Geegrl19 that's good about the numbers then but I agree it will just come back. Basically we are all going to get it at some point, aren't we? It's just a case of when. Eek I'm actually getting a test because I went to work to get my laptop sorted and now there's three positive cases there and one was from the building I was in. I did sanitize my hands at each door but I had the it guy put his paws all over my laptop. Although i do feel fine but I felt shit last night so filled out the form for a test.

Horehound · 24/08/2020 09:32

Oh and @Stroan I'm sure he will have fun at nursery but I know how you feel xx

Stroan · 24/08/2020 10:45

@Horehound that's DDs easel really but I guess it'll be shared. I made him a 1 year stats poster so displayed it on the easel. (It's an IKEA easel by the way, it's fab).

I had to have a Covid test thanks to those balloons - couldn't stop coughing the day after blowing up more than 200 of them! They did look good though, we moved them outside for the party.

I'm sure we are doing some kind of check soon, but the 8 month one was done over the phone. I'm waiting for a referral as he has a slight squint but my HV is useless and I am happy not to have to listen to her nonsense! Had to postpone his jabs last week as he had a cold.

Omg that poster is so cute!! What a lovely idea :)
Arthur loves noisy farm too ;)

Stroan · 24/08/2020 11:07

I did one for DDs first birthday and the potential guilt if I didn't do one for DS was just TOO MUCH. I am my own worst enemy!

Dyra · 24/08/2020 13:59

Love the poster @Stroan. Very cute. Especially like the "I can - Escape".

Those nights sounds hellish @Horehound.... Fx the baby inflicted torture eases up soon.

How's everything going @yevans?

I had kinda forgotten about the next set of immunisations.... I had it in my mind they were at 13 months for some reason. Balls. Better get those booked.

easterbuns1 · 24/08/2020 21:24

Hello! I've not been on the thread in an absolute age sorry but thought I would pop on as we are in amongst the babies birthdays now and see how everyone is doing.

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 24/08/2020 21:47

I think next jabs are 13 months? They used to be anyway!

We are starting to cut tooth number 8 here
I am quite surprised that having started walking about two month ago we still do not have climbing!

Lovely to hear of all the happy birthdays Cake

You should definitely follow your gut with nurseries. I work in early years and have seen some right shit shows in my time. High staff turnover is bad. Also if there were 11 babies in a room that is 4 staff, i am very surprised they would invite additional adults into that with covid risks. Its a lot of people in a small space.

Horehound · 24/08/2020 23:15

Yep I agree @THATbasicrebelBITCH
We had our first taster with Arthur this evening at the new place and omg it couldn't have been more opposite from the first time at the other one.
Granted there were no kids there but we had a great time, he got to play with everything on his own, the owner was cuddling him and sat and talked through all her stuff. We love it and think and hope he will be happy there. He was all smiles the whole time :) hurrah

Geegrl19 · 25/08/2020 00:39

@Horehound that's a relief. I really think you can tell with things like this. The centre Nate goes to is amazing. They all (even staff I don't know) tell me all the time how much they love Nate, he's got them wrapped round his little finger. There was a woman who used to work at the centre my girls went to a long time ago and she was a complete misery. Goodness knows why she worked around kids.

@stroan great party set up and your poster is so cute. On Nate's I would have loves headbutting when in bed with me. Ouch, why do they do that!

@THATbasicrebelBITCH that's good re no climbing. I'm dreading that!

yevans · 25/08/2020 14:13

@Dyra our GP sends out reminders for jabs I think! Expecting them around 12-13 months the health visitor said.

We are currently struggling a bit! I'm a SAHM and what with early pregnancy hormones I'm finding myself feeling really low and desperately trying to entertain DD. I'd love to get out to a playgroup so she can start to socialise with other kids which I think she's really missing out on but all the group's have social distancing in place (why England is so behind on letting kids not distance I have no idea 😭) so the only other way she could socialise with kids would be to put her in nursery for a day which would be really expensive. Ugh. Damn you Covid.

Apologies for the rant... 🙈

Dyra · 25/08/2020 15:49

My GP does the same, but the post around here has been shockingly slow since lockdown kicked in. Probably why we've not had the HV questionnaire yet as well.

Sorry to hear you're feeling low. I get how you feel. It was difficult enough to entertain a baby when they were potatoes and there were baby groups. Now they're mobile and there's no baby groups? Urgh. It must be even more difficult with all the first trimester crappiness and all it entails. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until they relax the rules and baby groups can begin properly again.

yevans · 25/08/2020 21:13

Thanks @Dyra! Probably doesn't help that I'm in a place with extra restrictions at the moment as well so can't go around to anyone's house or garden to pass the time!

I'll blame it all on hormones (like I do everytime I snap at DH...😉)!

Anyone got any ideas for 1st birthday presents/ones that have been a hit already? I've got a few random cheap bits but don't really know what's suitable for a 1 year old!!

Horehound · 26/08/2020 08:28

@yevans sorry you are having a hard time. Poor you. Hope it gets better soon and restrictions are lifted where you are even sooner :)

I got Arthur a wooden colourful rocket from aldi or Lidl I'll go fund out but I out it all together for when he came down in the morning and he loved it. Someone also gave him his first duplo set which he is loving and some little wooden toy cars.

Stroan · 26/08/2020 08:32

@yevans sorry you are struggling with a local lockdown. I miss baby groups too, they are starting to open up here next month but i'm not actually sure when I'll feel comfortable going. I promise you that your DD will socialise just fine once she is allowed to, it won't be doing her any harm, it's just hard for us. And bloody hard work at the best of times, but you have pregnancy hormones and tiredness too. I hope your lockdown rules are relaxed soon.

DS loves his scuttlebug and a huge plastic rocker thingy that my friend got him. I swear by the Hape Baby Einstein musical instruments for toys that will last and entertain beyond one. They are wooden and really lovely.

Also, they develop really quickly from this point on so something for a slightly older age range might be an option too? My sister got DD the IKEA play kitchen for her 1st birthday and it is hands down the most loved toy in the house. It's had daily use for almost four years. DS spends ages banging stuff off it and emptying all the food baskets, so I think he is going to love it too.

Thanks everyone, sorry for the moan!!

Ooh some good ideas there thanks, I reckon Ruth would love the baby Einstein wooden piano so I'll pop that on her list.
