Yay for the pooping system @Horehound. Nate loves a poo in his fresh morning nappy.

@kyles101 it's hard isn't it. Nate is beside himself tired when he gets home from daycare and I have to make it through to bedtime. Fingers crossed it gets better for you. How often is he there?

kyles101 · 17/07/2020 08:52

@Geegrl19 3 days usually, mon / tue / fri. I think this is only week 3 too so I have everything crossed it gets better!! How long has Nate been going? Full time?

Horehound · 17/07/2020 12:14

Eek @kyles101 that does t sound good does it? Arthur has taken to napping for two hours only two hours after he wakes Confused
He's become harder and harder to get down for sleeps though so today I tried for thirty mins, got nowhere. Left him in his cot and out some music on the camera and after ten mins he wput himself to sleep! Hoping I can do that again for bedtime Grin

I am so worried about naps at nursery. At least he will have a 30 Min car journey there and back so he could nap then if he wanted to.
What time do you both get up in the morning? I'm thinking if we got up at 6 then by the time we are in the car at 07.30 he may drop of for 15 mins hmmm

Geegrl19 · 17/07/2020 12:22

@kyles101 he's been there since the beginning of Feb and goes on a weds, Thurs and Fri. He's there from 8 till 5.45 so is a long day for him. He's a real whinger when we get home poor thing as he's so tired. The centre is great though and I think he gets bored at home as he's not entertained by me all day, lol

DustyDoorframes · 17/07/2020 17:21

Very jealous of all your naps. We are lucky to get 2 25 minute ones. DC1 was the same and DC2 not much better. They need less sleep than I do!!!

happydays00 · 17/07/2020 21:02

DS goes to nursery on a Wednesday and a Friday and usually does a small 30 minute nap in the morning and 1.5 - 2 hours in the afternoon which is the same as what he does at home. This wasn't always the case though, when they tried to get him to sleep in a cot it was a disaster zone so now he sleeps on one of the mattresses on the floor and it's fine. He started going in mid January but obviously missed April onwards because of lockdown so it's basically been like starting again!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 18/07/2020 22:35

Dd2 has yet to start nursery (they're not taking under 2s yet cos of COVID so DH has had her while working from home) and she is such a clingy lockdown baby, I really hope they're able to get her to sleep. Dd1 did nap at nursery but always less than at home. When she was on two naps at home she only did one at nursery and now she's on one at home she'll sometimes not nap at nursery (and then fall asleep at tea! 🙈)

kyles101 · 18/07/2020 23:22

@Horehound same on the car journey, about 40 mins here so if he's tired he's usually gone 10 mins into the journey or so. Worst napping so far on Friday - 1 x 10 minute 🙄 he has slept fine since though, and he's perfect at self settling - I tuck him in and go, in fact, I think I forgot to put Ewan in tonight, whoops! He had a 4 hour nap this afternoon too! Maybe he's catching up. I get up at 6, DS 6:30 to leave at 7:20, arrive 8am. Plenty of time as I shower the night before, I can have a quick freshen up too if need be but not really enough time for hair washing as I refuse to get up before 6! Only bad bit us DS is used to it so wants to get up at around that time every day - and this morning it was 5:30 - argh!!

@Geegrl19 DS definitely loves it too! He adores the other babies, he so sociable, he could watch other children all day long! It's nice to be able to go out and about to places again now too, I feel like his days with me aren't too boring now!

@DustyDoorframes I feel like I need all the sleep for the last week or so for some reason - new routine maybe.

@happydays00 I did wonder about asking mine if he could just sleep in the room actually... I think he has FOMO

Off dog walking and stream splashing in tomorrow after a lazy day today.

DS has been cruising around furniture though and being brave and letting go so he can move between items like the footstool and the sofa, pretty successfully, only one face plant 🙄 he's up on his knees now and so very nearly got the hang of properly crawling.... he still uses his head more often than not though 😂 I think he's growing out of his more baby toys... ideas for next stage? We've got me him a rainbow for his birthday but I'm not really sure what he would enjoy playing with at the minute (apart from the remote control or iPad 🙄)

kyles101 · 18/07/2020 23:23

I can't imagine wfh with DS in tow @Littlehouseinthebigcity ! How does your dh find it?

Geegrl19 · 19/07/2020 02:48

@kyles101 yes, I think they have FOMO at daycare. Nate I reckon is on catch up too at the weekends after being there.

Unrelated, but can babies have bad dreams? A couple of times this week Nate has woken absolutely screaming upset. 0-100 in about two seconds. He quickly resettled with a cuddle but wondering if it could be a bad dream?

Dyra · 19/07/2020 10:13

Babies definitely dream. Which I guess means that they can have bad dreams. What about? Who knows. Abandonment? Falling?

Also would love some ideas for toys. Started getting some stacking things (cups, blocks), but I want to get her more variety. I truly wish there was more than one toy store (that I know of) in the entirety of the county (the void that is Oxfordshire). I loved going to Toys R Us as a child. Even if I left without anything (e.g. we were there to buy birthday presents for one of my younger siblings, Christmas list scouting mission), it was still so much fun. Sad that unless a Smyth's opens up nearby soon, it will be a very rare occasion for Alice. Fortunately there's a Smyth's quite near to both grandparents' houses.... Grin

Horehound · 19/07/2020 16:03

I got Arthur this @dyra. I think I got it from Smyth's actually and Arthur is loving it. Can push the balls through the holes and when the hit the xylophone they make a noise as they roll down it. You can remove the xylophone and it comes with a hammer so can play that too. And its a nice wooden toy and very well made.

Horehound · 19/07/2020 16:03

Forgot the photo!

@kyles101 I think he actually enjoys the quality time with her! But that being said she is a plump, placid little thing who will happily sit on a mat with toys for an hour at a time! She isn't moving yet which would make it a lot more complicated. She's appeared on a few video calls when she's been in need of cuddles though!

kyles101 · 19/07/2020 19:42

@Geegrl19 funnily enough DS woke exactly the same way last night, I'm sure it was a bad dream, such an awful squeal, poor baby.

DustyDoorframes · 20/07/2020 15:42

@kyles101 dream wfh baby! I can't do much with my crew, me and DP do shifts and award ourselves medals for getting the meals on the table...
Re toys, big hits at the moment here are- stacking cups, a large empty clear plastic jar with ANYTHING in it to take out, soft balls, a funny stick with a rubber pumpy thing on the end (the older ones claim it is something to do with Peppa Pig, bizarrely), xylophones, the Grimm rainbow sometimes, kitchen equipment, some Wow branded figures that ride in little carts and can be removed, some wooden keys on a little string, toys you can push things through holes (like balls, or sticks with a hammer but she doesn't use the hammer yet). And of course any Lego, playmobil, paper and felt tip pens she can seize...

I'm not ashamed to say our living room is full of plastic tat. He has an activity table which he loves. Other favourites at the minute are the ball pit (spends hours just crawling in and out) his cars, mega blocks and a little thing that has animals pop up when you press the buttons. Mostly though he loves tv remotes and wooden spoons!

Horehound · 21/07/2020 13:06

YY to TV remotes!

Geegrl19 · 21/07/2020 13:41

Plastic tat here too. Nate leaves a trail of destruction everywhere he goes. His arms are also telescopic and extend to 50% longer capacity when needed to touch thjngs he shouldn't.

We have a couple of old remotes that we let him get his mitts on. He think he's so clever, but little does he know.

db92 · 21/07/2020 15:01

😂 love that description Geegirl. Ellis is the same, he's taken to saying yes to me when I tell him no 🙄 I thought I had a good 13 or so years before the back chat started but obviously not.

We tried the old remotes but he wasn't fooled. How does he know?! He'll refuse the old ones and come straight for the one that genuinely works.

Handed in our nursery registration forms today which has me excited and nervous all at the same time. Excited because It's a great nursery and I think he'll love it but nervous about such a big change although he'll only be there one day a week. How are these babies so close to being 1 already!?

DustyDoorframes · 21/07/2020 17:08

Ooh remotes, good call! I'd forgotten about their charms. Need to find the "dummy " one her siblings used to dearly love...
We've got a mixture of plastic atrocities which are much loved and beautiful wooden things which are largely discarded.

kyles101 · 21/07/2020 22:30

I have a clever clogs fake remote seeker here too - he knows exactly what it should do - points it at the tv. But he has no actual interest in anything on it 🤷‍♀️ certainly not any of the Disney I've tried to make him watch yet 😂 he just basically wants anything that might injure him 🙄

Stroan · 22/07/2020 13:42

Dipping in with some toy recommendations (I'm reading but rarely find the free hands to reply!).

We have the same toy that Horehound posted and it's a big hit. It was DDs but DS loves it more.

The Hape Baby Einstein Magic Touch range is really lovely. We've got the piano and the drums, hoping to get the tablet for his birthday. It's mostly wood with plastic for the mechanics of them. DS really loves them and I've given them as gifts to a friend's daughter who is 18 months and still plays with them daily.

Some good ideas for presents. Can't believe it's only 45 days until Alice is 1.... Scary thoughts. 20% of the way there to her going to school!

She's a fellow remote addict. I don't know if it's luck, knowledge, or just the red button is the most enticing one of all, but she's managed to turn the TV on all by herself a couple of times....
She loves TV. She's been watching The Clone Wars and Phineas & Ferb with us over lunch, and banged on her tray along to Hamilton while I was cooking.
