@jesskir89 this is the NHS definition. Was not pleasant but they numbed the area first so I didn't feel it and stitched it up after.
"Sometimes a doctor or midwife may need to make a cut in the area between the vagina and anus (perineum) during childbirth. This is called an episiotomy.
An episiotomy makes the opening of the vagina a bit wider, allowing the baby to come through it more easily.
Sometimes a woman's perineum may tear as their baby comes out. In some births, an episiotomy can help to prevent a severe tear or speed up delivery if the baby needs to be born quickly"

Awake again. Tonight has been awful. Joseph is only sleeping just over an hour before wanting a feed and then I'm up for an hour feeding and burping him. Hes a nightmare at feeding cause he cries for milk and then falls asleep after feeding 1oz and I have to battle to keep him awake to take another oz so he gets hungry so fast. I'm so exhausted. Just had a little cry cause I've done all the night feeds for the last 3+ weeks on my own as my husband has a huge work thing he has to do so hes working like 14-15hour days and I'm just so tired. I'm really hoping he can help me this weekend with them.
Hows all your nights going.

Jesskir89 · 01/05/2020 11:13

@abbs1 thanks for that :) they mentioned doing that to me but ended up with the section instead. Hope you get some sleep today! Freddie slept from 2 til 6 then 7 til 9.45 but not in his crib.... X

Jesskir89 · 01/05/2020 15:59

Freddie was struggling with wind girls so I was giving him gripe water and bought infacol then for the last 2 days out of nowhere he's been bringing it up himself bless him. He's 7 weeks old today x

Hi girls sorry I've been quiet all day. I was up all night and felt really sick this morning so my husband took the day off work to take care of Joseph so I could sleep and rest which was really sweet of him. I feel a bit better now. Hope you are all doing ok.

Jesskir89 · 01/05/2020 23:23

@daniX91 thank you and wow what a gorgeous girl! Hope you're doing OK. @abbs1 good I hope you had plenty of rest x

@jesskir89 yes I do. 🙂 little Joseph just slept 3 1/2hours! My husband decided to strip him to a vest and nappy to feed him so he was cold and he downed 4oz and went to sleep so I'm trying that now again and see how I go. I had forgotten the hospital mention that you make then cold they drink more!
@Danix91 little Daisy is so gorgeous!
@Noodlessxxx oh bless you. You must be so happy it's all over! I certainly am!

Jesskir89 · 02/05/2020 10:00

@abbs1 I didn't know that! Freddie always feels cold to me though at night but I'm petrified of him overheating! I had a bad night we were up every 2 hours and he didn't go down til 2am x

OP posts:
abbs1 · 02/05/2020 10:46

@jesskir89 he certainly didnt like it but it kept him awake to drink enough. Then I put him back in his baby grow to burp and back to sleep. I'm always worried to of him overheating. When our room is 20C or under I do vest baby grow and light muslin blanket over him up to his waist. Over 20C no blanket and 22C plus no vest just baby grow.
Oh no! Sounds like a rough night. I hope he settles so you can sleep today.
Little Joseph did really well so I got some good chunks of sleep.

Jesskir89 · 02/05/2020 13:45

@abbs1 I've just been keeping him in vest, baby grow and thin blanket to his under arms but he always feels cold our room is usually 20-21 degrees. Sounds awful but I'd rather him be a bit cold that too hot

Beautiful baby pics Smile lovely to see! I’ll try and share mine.

@abbs1 I had an episiotomy too - with forceps. I’m hoping if I ever give birth again it will be easier. My mum had the same with me and then had my brother in 2 hours. But if you had a traumatic time hopefully they will discuss it with you and make a plan for next time.

Evie had a better sleep last night. Sometimes she just snacks on the boob and so maybe stripping her off might encourage her to take more.

Our room always seems cold but the thermometer says 22 so I’m super paranoid just like you girls. Would rather her be too cold than too hot, I’m sure she wouldn’t be shy in letting me know! Tend to do vest, sleep suit and thin covering.

Anyone used sleeping bags yet? I was planning to when she is a bit bigger!

abbs1 · 02/05/2020 16:13

@jesskir89 @singme Joseph's hands are always cold but they say to test the back or chest for warmth and go by that so that's what I've been doing.

@singme luckily I didnt need forceps but I think it was close. The consultant kind of just pulled him out but I'm definitely going to discuss a birth plan as I didnt have one at all so felt totally out of control and it was very stressful.

I would recommend the stripping of clothes. It seems to be working really well so far 🙂
I still cant upload photos even though it says its successful. Any ideas? 🤔

Jesskir89 · 02/05/2020 21:53

@singme not tried the sleeping bag yet but weighed freddie today and he's not far off 12lb so gonna try him in the next few days. Do you think he will need a blanket too with a 1 tog?

OP posts:
atomcats · 02/05/2020 22:12

@singme we’ve just started using a sleeping bag. I wasn’t aware there was a weight limit, but DD is nearly 11lb so not far off I guess. We were swaddling but wanted to see how she fared without before she gets too used to it! She’s doing ok with the bag, but she does enjoy flinging her arms about which the swaddle prevented. She’s used it for two nights so far, first was fine but last night she didn’t settle after her first wake up - although whether that was to do with the bag or not I don’t know.

In terms of bedtime clothes, it sounds like I’ve been overdressing in comparison to what others are using. Before she was in a vest and baby grow, with a swaddle and a light blanket, whereas now she has a 2.5 tog sleeping bag instead of the blanket and swaddle. I’ve been going off the recommendations from the gro website (I’m not using their products, just found the info handy!) gro.co.uk/what-to-wear/

Jesskir89 · 03/05/2020 03:32

@atomcats thanks for the link :) so I've had 1.5 hours sleep... I'm exhausted Sad

I have a Sense-U sensor on my 6 week old that lets me know if she gets too hot or cold. It has been a real godsend as I was so paranoid about her over heating or being freezing. Would highly recommend!
My baby is currently sleeping in a vest, baby grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag which seems to be fine for her according to the sensor.

Jesskir89 · 03/05/2020 12:13

@EventRider1 I didn't even know they existed so good to know :)

Hiw you doing ladies? I've just had a solid 4 hours from freddie hoping for another now :)

abbs1 · 04/05/2020 10:57

@jesskir89 I'm doing good. Glad you got a good night. Joseph did really well and slept 10pm-2am and then 2:30am-5am so was definitely a good night for me!

singme · 04/05/2020 13:32

Not a bad night for me either but cluster feeding all morning! I’m exhausted! I’m not even sure if she’s hungry anymore!!

EventRider1 · 04/05/2020 16:33

I had a good night with two blocks of four hours sleep but today has been filled with a fussy baby, projectile vomit and a poonami that required Isla to be showered off as no amount of wet wipes would do the job! 😬

Jesskir89 · 04/05/2020 16:46

Sounds like we all had a decent night. I didn't get a second 4 hours but I had 2 so it'll do lol. @EventRider1 sounds fun! Hope it eases off

Hi all, hope you've all had a good day with your little ones. Joseph had his 6 week checkup and they have found a heart murmur so hes got to go into hospital for scans and to see the cardiologist. The doctor said not to worry but I am as I had to take a 4 different medications while pregnant due to severe hyperemesis and I worried the medication has caused him to have a heart defect. 😥
