Hi guys, can I join in for some support? Had my wee girl by emergency c section on Tuesday the 24th. Finding it so hard not having anyone to visit her, and really missing my own mum right now. Having a newborn is so hard and unpredictable, and balancing it with the state of the world is just more burden than I thought I'd be dealing with just now.

LividLaughLovely · 31/03/2020 01:09

@TicketyBoo92 we got this. Have you joined any of the Facebook Covid baby groups? Or hot any local online support?

Cassie124 · 31/03/2020 10:28

Baby Alex was born 28th March, we both came home from hospital last night. So glad to be back home with DH, but a bit gutted he can't meet grandparents :(

Jesskir89 · 31/03/2020 11:41

@Cassie124 and @ticketyboo92 congratulations on your new arrivals. It is a tough time atm but we will get through it together girls. It's hard enough having a new born to worry about without any support from family. Is anyone else obsessively worrying about everything? I'm even worrying about freddies future, the weirdos in the world he's being brought up in, everything! Driving myself mad x

How's everyone getting on?

OP posts:
TicketyBoo92 · 01/04/2020 12:13

@jesskir89 I'm getting on a lot better. 8 days in, and things are definitely easier than when we first came home from hospital. I'm getting a decent amount of sleep, which definitely helps (even if it is in lots of 2 hour chunks). How about you?

sadtoday21 · 01/04/2020 14:04

@Jesskir89 not great! I just found out my baby has thrush and that's why he's been crying non-stop for past few days. We both need prescriptions now, after I just got off a course of antibiotics for mastitis last week :/.

TicketyBoo92 · 01/04/2020 14:52

@Jesskir89 That sounds really awful! Are you still managing to breastfeed in spite of all that? I'm really starting to wish my wee one would take a bottle. I find all the pressure of feeding really overwhelming and I would love it if my husband was able to help with it, so I could go for a bath and eat my dinner without worrying about the baby needing fed

Jesskir89 · 01/04/2020 20:00

@ticketyboo92 glad things are getting easier and you're getting some sleep :) it's @sadtoday21 that's struggling hun. How long will it take to clear @sadtoday21? Hope he's on the mend soon the poor thing x

Thanks @TicketyBoo92 I’m still managing to breastfeed regardless, it’s just a bit more painful now. Have your tried different types of bottles? My LO had no problem with it, so DH usually does one bottle of expressed milk per night so I can sleep 3-4 hours. I’d die of exhaustion otherwise!

Thanks @Jesskir89! Hope so. How are you doing?

atomcats · 01/04/2020 23:28

@sadtoday21 and @Jesskir89 (and anyone else who is also doing it!) when did you guys start expressing? I asked the midwife at the five day check and they said to wait til breast feeding is established, but to aim to do it before six weeks... baby is feeding well (albeit not a perfect latch according to the midwife 🤷‍♀️) so wondering how long to leave it before deciding that it is established

sadtoday21 · 01/04/2020 23:52

@atomcats I started expressing in day 3 because one of my nipples was sore and cracked and bleeding. It didn’t interfere with normal breastfeeding and I usually only do it once or twice a day anyway. Get a good double pump though that’s hospital grade - I tried to go with a cheaper one and it’s not worth it, takes forever and is useless. This is one thing you really do want to spend money on - it will save you when you are exhausted and need to sleep by giving dh a bottle! We aren’t doing any formula just ebf, so pumping is really essential. Start now!

atomcats · 02/04/2020 07:32

@sadtoday21 thank you so much. I’m ok one side, but definitely more sore on the other! I have a basic hand pump, so might give it a go and if it’s successful I will look to invest in something more substantial!

Jesskir89 · 02/04/2020 11:09

@atomcats I started to express once my milk came through so about day 4 it's been a godsend. We got an electric pump off amazon for about 40 quid. @sadtoday21 I'm not too bad just keep obsessively worrying over things x

Finally graduated from March Babies thread @Jesskir89Technically my little girl is an April baby but I started my long labour in March haha.
Home from hospital this evening and still up now! So tired.
How is everyone?

1Pinkfluffyelephant · 04/04/2020 08:18

@Jesskir89 how much are you managing to express. I have managed to get a total of about 14oz in the freezer and another 5oz in the fridge but DS is two weeks old so doesn’t seem a lot. Only get about 2/3 oz a time, is that about normal? Really struggling with not having our families around and also having DD at home due to school beings closed. As much as I love getting to spend more time with her, I had planned to have those few weeks before Easter holidays settling into having a newborn again and establishing breastfeeding.

Jesskir89 · 04/04/2020 11:43

@singme congratulations what did she weigh and what's her name? Was your dh with you? @1pinkfluffyelephant everyone's different hun I bottle feed my milk to him at night so in the morning I can express 5 or 6 oz in one go. Then usually the same again later on in the day. It's bad times atm sweet but just look at your baby when you're feeling down x

I've been expressing since the hospital (Ds has latching problems and just cant take it directly), but I seem to be getting hardly anything out so we are mostly using formula. I'm on day 8 atm, can anyone recommend anyway to up the supply?

sadtoday21 · 05/04/2020 11:45

I express 2-3 ounces per breast in 20-30 min pumping session. Def not enough to feed my baby for more than 2, 3 hours max. I wish I could produce more! Also looking for tips.

Jesskir89 · 05/04/2020 13:47

Hi girls, I'm not sure there's any tips I just think some people can express more than others. My ds has a tight tongue tie but the clinic to have it done is closed atm! Sometimes I'll have him on the right boob all day then express from the left and get about 6oz in 5mins from doing that

Hi, so nice to find this thread, feel less alone after reading! My Hayley girl was born Saturday 21st after being induced. She is our first, and hasn't met any family yet. I dont think I'll be able to lay hands on her when quarantine is lifted, they will be queuing out the door!
I had a 3rd degree tear and have only just started to go for short walks around the block. It feels like a whole different world outside now! Very strange.
Stay healthy everyone!

singme · 05/04/2020 18:19

@Jesskir89 thank you! She was 7lb and we think we have settled on Evie for a name! Not that you can register right now anyway. DP was able to come to labour ward and then left after the birth so that was fine and the ward was nice and quiet afterwards.

Finding it all a bit overwhelming today (day 3). Her first night home she cried a lot and was pulling off the breast etc. Midwife thinks probably hungry as milk not in yet as expected and she did visit us although they aren’t visiting everyone. But I’m finding it so worrying with everything that is going on. In normal circumstances would like lots of visits and support but at the moment we just want to lock ourselves away.
Was in hospital for around 3 nights total just before and after birth so worried about that too! But guess we just have to trust things will be ok and that the healthcare staff are keeping us as safe as possible.

DerbyshireGirly · 06/04/2020 14:48

Hi ladies, I was on the last thread on and off. I had my baby girl Bree on 26th March weighing 8 lbs 7 oz after a very long labour - not the home birth I wanted but she's so very worth it.

Hi girls, can I join in please? Had my little girl Willow a week early on 22nd March after being induced for preeclampsia. Found out that I had it on the Thursday, in for induction on the friday morning and had her Sunday morning! Was a right old weekend! Any who, we're home and settled, although not able to breastfeed as she was only dinky and cant latch properly so I'm expressing exclusively now which is full time in itself. Luckily DH is home for the foreseeable. Hope you are all ok!

Jesskir89 · 06/04/2020 20:48
