@Carlywalford94 welcome and congrats. I personally wouldn't as it says online not to until 6 months but the NHS website says if a baby is formula fed you can... I would ring the midwife to check. Ive also been told its a sign of dehydration but if baby is feeding well and wet nappies that's a good sign. @abbs1 let's hope for a better night tonight x

@jesskir89 little Joseph really struggled go get to sleep last night. Just very over tired and he wouldn't sleep in his cot. He did really well in his cot the first 3 weeks but the last 2 he just cries and will not settle so I've had to have him in the bed with me and my husband has been sleeping on the settee. He sleeps amazing next to me but it's not ideal at all.
Any suggestions on how to settle him in his cot again. Hes just over 5 weeks.
@carlywalford94 my midwife told me not to give water to baby only milk and hes formula fed but I've heard of people giving it anyways.

Jesskir89 · 25/04/2020 16:20

@abbs1 I jinxed myself last night between freddie and the dog I was up from 3am til 6am I'm so tired. I hate freddie sleeping in bed with me it scares me to death. I turned my back on him one night I woke up panicked so try not to do it, luckily he was fine. I settle him on my chest til he's fast asleep then move him to his crib. Very time consuming but best way for me x

@jesskir89 oh bless you. Sounds like a very long night. I hope you've had a chance to sleep today?
We have a king size bed so joseph is a good distance from me that if I rolled I wouldn't roll on him but I do get scared having him in the bed and I want to get him in his cot again asap. I normally get him to sleep on my chest before moving him but for some reason hes suddenly noticed when I lay him in the cot and wakes up and cries within minutes whereas before he would just sleep. It's really frustrating but I'm gonna keep trying each night and hope that one night he will settle again.

Jesskir89 · 25/04/2020 19:42

@abbs1 we've got a super king size as my dh is 6ft 5 so luckily I had room to roll but it is still scary. Before you move him to his crib give it an extra 5 mins, it's so hard to stay awake but it's the only way I can settle freddie in his. Have you tried a dummy? X

abbs1 · 25/04/2020 19:55

@jesskir89 I feed him then burp him for 25 mins as he gets a lot of burps and hes asleep for basically all of it. Then I lay him out in my arms let him settle again from being scrunched up on my chest then I put him in the cot but I hold his head and slowly move my hands away hoping he doesn't realise hes not being held. I've tried a dummy but he just spits it out. Then within like 2mins hes awake and crying again. Feel like it's a losing battle. In the bed I just lay him down and he doesn't even wake at all so frustrating! I'm gonna keep trying he will settle at some point I'm sure he has to!

Jesskir89 · 25/04/2020 20:17

@abbs1 your technique is the same as mine lol if I put him down too early he wakes but if he's fast asleep thankfully he stays asleep it's tough work but we will get there. What kind of crib do you have? X

abbs1 · 25/04/2020 21:11

@jesskir89 it is tough and so tiring some nights which is why i go for the east option of keeping him in bed with me so I'm gonna keep trying to persevere.
I have a cot from IKEA that is in our bedroom. We decided instead of buying loads of different things to get one item that we wont have to replace for a good few years. But maybe that was a bad idea and it's too big and open for him.

Jesskir89 · 25/04/2020 21:42

@abbs1 do whatever works best. We need our sleep. See if you can pick up a cheap next to me crib perhaps? X

@jesskir89 I've been thinking that but worried he wont sleep in that as he wont even sleep in his travel system carry cot which I would think is cosy and is small so feels more comfortable.
Hes only slept for 4 hours today since 530am so I'm really hoping he sleeps tonight. Hes had his bottle I just need him to sleep now. Its been a long old day.

abbs1 · 26/04/2020 00:51

@jesskir89 we have success so far! He went down in his cot at 10:40pm and slept till 12:25am when hes woke for a feed. I'm hoping he goes down again once his feeding is over. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Jesskir89 · 26/04/2020 05:21

@abbs1 is that in his crib? Hope you're having a good night. Freddie just slept from 1am (he was awake from 8.30ish) until 4.30 so I've just had 3.5 hours which is great. Winded him for 15mins but he's not burped :( going to try and put him down in a min and hope for another 3 hours

OP posts:
abbs1 · 26/04/2020 05:39

@jesskir89 yes he slept till 1am in his cot but then after his feed at 1am he wouldn't settle so back in bed then awake again at 3am for a feed and now 5am for another feed! So I'm barely getting an hours sleep once the bottle is made hes fed and burped so I'm shattered. Hoping he still sleeps after this feed as normally hes awake from now but I need sleep!
I'm so glad you've been able to get a good chunk of sleep. Fingers crossed he goes down now well for you.

Jesskir89 · 26/04/2020 10:37

@abbs1 did you get any sleep after last post? I got from 5.40 til 7.30 and just had an hour now. Great that he went in his crib for a bit!

OP posts:
abbs1 · 26/04/2020 13:15

@jesskir89 he was awake from 5am onwards. Had another bottle at 7am. Then I finally got some sleep after my husband took him.

Jesskir89 · 26/04/2020 14:19

@abbs1 glad you got a kip this morning. Hard work isn't it lol

OP posts:
abbs1 · 26/04/2020 20:29

@jesskir89 oh it is but so worth it. He had two good sleeps today and I'm just settling him to bed now so will see how tonight goes.
I hope you have a good night with little Freddie.

Jesskir89 · 27/04/2020 01:39

@abbs1 freddie woke up about 8 and has been awake since just trying to settle him now and hope he does 4 hours. Hope you're having a good night. How's everyone else getting on at night?

OP posts:
abbs1 · 27/04/2020 03:06

@jesskir89 I hope little Freddie went to sleep and you get your 4 hours sleep before he wakes.
Little Joseph slept in his cot from 830pm to 11pm and woke for a feed so big progress there.
I settled him again but he would not settle in his cot so hes been back with me. He slept from 1230 to 230am and has just had a feed so I'm hoping for 2-3hours before he wakes for another feed.
Because he was born quite small he has a lot of catching up to do so hes only taking 2-3oz a feed at night so wakes often. I'm hoping he starts to drink more soon so he can go longer stretches without needing a feed. He manages 4oz sometimes in the day which is good. I wish he would at night. Hes coming up to six weeks old so hopefully his tummy is growing and he can take more milk.

How are you other mummies doing out there? 🙂

Jesskir89 · 27/04/2020 04:43

@abbs1 I got 2.5 hours lol. Freddies similar tbh he's breastfed all day but I express for night and for his 3 night/morning feeds he has between 2 and 4oz. He was 6lb 11oz born

OP posts:
abbs1 · 27/04/2020 12:23

@jesskir89 oh no! Hope he slept for longer after his feed. Little Joseph didnt sleep after his 230am feed full of burps and wind so didnt settle till 645am and still now hes been very restless with wind bless him.

Jesskir89 · 27/04/2020 14:38

@abbs1 sounds like a bad night! Hope you can have a kip today x

We have also had a bad few days, little Hayley just wouldn't settle. Couldn't put her down day or night or she will just wake up within 20 mins straining and crying. But happily last night she gave us two 2 hour blocks of sleep, I feel human again and I think she does too, much happier baby, I hope it lasts!

Jesskir89 · 27/04/2020 21:55

@NixGostling sounds tough! I hope you have another decent night for all your sakes x

OP posts:
abbs1 · 28/04/2020 00:15

@Nixgostling gosh that sounds very tiring. I hope you get some sleep tonight and things settle. My little one had something similar last week and I think it was a growth spurt as hes settled a bit more again.
@jesskir89 hope you're doing ok lovely and little Freddie gives you a good night. My little Joseph slept a lot yesterday in his carry cot so I was able to get some rest. Hes slept a good block this evening already and just up for his first night feed so hoping it continues through the night.
