@jesskir89 he does burp a lot and has wind so I normally hold him upright a good 30mins after feeding to help with that but hes just so restless. My husband took him for a bit yesterday evening so I could sleep and next thing I new it was 730am! My husband had him all night downstairs so i could sleep bless him and said he was up all night as he wouldn't sleep unless he was being held. I have him in the bed with me now and hes calm and sort of a sleep with his dummy but keeps waking and wriggling around and then going back to sleep.

@abbs1 that doesn’t sound fun at all! Mine has started the ‘evening fussiness’ which I’m glad to see is an actual thing so it means we at least know that it’s nothing wrong as such, although it’s still pretty draining... you can pretty much set your watch by it which is interesting! She started on Monday suddenly getting really upset while feeding in the late afternoon / evening and pulling away mid feed / arching her back / crying etc and then wouldn’t really settle unless she was being cuddled. To try and ease my own stress levels we have taken to expressing a bottle so that at least we know she’s eaten. Although trying to work out how much she needs is fun as I can’t find anything online about it. I’ve taken to just trying to express as much as I can from one side and then topping up with a little from the other, but she drinks it so quickly from a bottle that she doesn’t seem satisfied like she does from a normal feed, which of course adds to the fussiness! It’s all fun and games... I’m trying to remind myself that it’s likely part of the fourth trimester business and trying to enjoy the cuddle time, but it does get frustrating at times when you just want five minutes to yourself / go to the loo!

abbs1 · 18/04/2020 21:35

@atomcats im glad you can kind of prepare yourself. I'm bottle feeding and hes eating every 2 hours at the moment 3-4oz. I think the sleep deprivation is the worst! Today I haven't been able to put him down at all or he just screams within less than a minute. Even just to go toilet so no chance of a shower or eating much! I'm dreading tonight not gonna lie. I think I'm in for a long one! Hes been awake all day apart from a couple 20min naps on me here and there. I'm surprised hes not knackered!

NixGostling · 19/04/2020 02:00

My girl is exactly the same every evening, nights are hot a miss. She just so uncomfortable and unsettled. Have just reached for a dummy for the first time seems to have chilled her out! She is asleep on me now, gunna try putting her down soon. Fingers crossed.

abbs1 · 19/04/2020 02:14

@NixGostling I hope she settles for you. Very surprisingly my little one slept from 10pm to 130am and then I fed him and hes nearly asleep now. I'm gobsmacked after the day I've had! Hoping it lasts the rest of the night

Jesskir89 · 19/04/2020 14:38

Sounds like we're all struggling here girls. Freddie was awake until 2.30am last night and woke up at 5.30 and didn't go back to sleep til 8.30! I stayed in bed with him til he woke again at 11am just so I could get a couple of hours but then my days gone x

abbs1 · 19/04/2020 14:57

@Jesskir89 sounds like a very long night for you. I hope you can get some sleep soon. My little one slept again after his 1:30am feed till 5:15am then had another feed. After this he was very restless and didnt really sleep much till my husband came and took him at 8am for his morning feed and then I slept till 1200. As you say it's a waste of a day but with lockdown and no where to go I'm kind of making the most of catching up on sleep as during the week my husband is working so I cant lie in.

Jesskir89 · 19/04/2020 21:35

@abbs1 we've not been going to bed til midnight as there's not much point lol. Glad you're managing a morning nap and it's good to have our dh there to help atm isn't it x

Jesskir89 · 19/04/2020 21:36

@jesskir89 while he was off on paternity leave we didnt go to bed till midnight and most nights I'm still up then as little one wont settle. I think tonight may be a long one for me again what I do in the week is get up around 8-9am depending when little one wakes get him changed and fed and then sleep if he sleeps for a couple hours with this morning on in the background.
I hope you get a decent night tonight.

Jesskir89 · 19/04/2020 23:11

@abbs1 glad you've got yourself a nice routine. I've not managed it yet as I had an emergency section, then dh back to work for 4 days then site shut down it's been a mad few weeks. Fingers crossed we all get a few hours tonight lol x

Sounds like we are all in the same boat! My little one is just over 2 weeks old now and gets so fussy in the evenings. She feeds loads and then vomits. She was sleeping decent stretches between feeds before but now is up every hour or two overnight. DP back to work tomorrow but only working from home so that’s good!

Jesskir89 · 20/04/2020 09:16

@singme I've been finding when freddie is quite sick it's due to trapped wind but could be over feed they can get greedy lol.

OP posts:
abbs1 · 20/04/2020 11:05

@Jesskir89 @singme that's what I found with little Joseph. He seems to always do a big poo when hes feeding or soon after and if hes lying down before he poops he is sick from trying to poo or if hes feeding he stops feeding or gets agitated. Also if he overeats during the day when I lay him down to sleep hes done a few projectile vomits!

MiniJMac · 20/04/2020 19:06

Hi everyone. Just trying to catch up. Congratulations to you all on the birth of your babies.

Our little one was due on the 28th March (didn't know the sex) This was our second child having a 4yo son ready.

I went into labour on the 6th April in the afternoon. I had the most amazing experience at our local birthing unit with my husband by my side, water birth with g&a and we had a GIRL at 0028 on the 7th April. She weighs 9lb1oz. So just 10 days over due....

I'm breastfeeding her and she's feeding on average every 1hr 30mins and like many of yours she is suffering with wind and cries in pain. She's a real poppet otherwise. We named her Penny.

Hope you are all well. Its so strange not leaving the house and having our family come to meet her x

Jesskir89 · 20/04/2020 20:42

@abbs1 the projectile vomiting is scary! @minijmac welcome back! Ams congratulations what a lovely name. Glad all is well x

abbs1 · 20/04/2020 20:49

@Jesskir89 oh it is! I hear like a gurgle and then the milk just keeps coming out and all I can do is turn him on his side so he doesn't choke! That's my one fear when I feed him at night and lay him down if he needs more burps out and is sick and chokes on his vomit. Luckily the times it's happened he hasnt and I've got to him fine but it does scare me.
He currently asleep on me after being awake since 8am this morning so hoping for a good night.

Hows little Freddie doing?

singme · 21/04/2020 13:01

@MiniJMac congratulations! Beautiful name!

@Jesskir89 @abbs1 similar with the vomiting. She did it in her crib last night, luckily I heard her but by the time I sat up she had got it all out and was crying so that actually put my mind at rest as I’ve been worrying she could choke. It’s so scary isn’t it!

Jesskir89 · 21/04/2020 16:31

@singme it is worrying and I asked the health visitor about it and she basically said they won't choke but will put their head to the side and he does to be fair x

How's everyone getting on ladies? I'm having a bad day today, I came across this my brother got me for Xmas, he still hasn't got to meet him. Got me thinking about all the women out there doing this on their own :( x

We have a reflux baby here too. Breastfed but gets so windy and often brings up milk and have to start all over again when she's fussing which is so upsetting specially when you spend to long feeding her.
We introduced Infacol last night to see if that helps as she holds onto her wind in her gut and it clearly causes her pain with legs drawn to chest and crying. We also gave her a dummy last night to calm her down which made her fall asleep for 3 hours giving me a nice break while Daddy held her.
She only sleeps when she's on someone's chest. Whenever she is on her back she wakes up or is sick :(

singme · 24/04/2020 04:53

Same with the wind/reflux. Currently still up Sad, DD has vomited in the crib already and had another good feed, ages spent burping her and just won’t go to sleep!

@Jesskir89 I know, I wish my parents could meet her Sad, can’t wait for the time when they can!

Jesskir89 · 24/04/2020 05:34

@singme also been up an hour half of it trying to wind. He's just gone sleep in his grip now just hope he's not sick as he's not burped. I hope we're all reunited with our family's safely soon

My little boy was up from 4am after he fed he just couldn't poo and just straining and crying and grunting. He finally managed a bit mid morning but is still struggling bless him but finally asleep in my arms at the moment. Hope you're all coping ok in lockdown. I'm struggling but my daily walk is certainly helping just to get out the house.

Carlywalford94 · 24/04/2020 17:14

Hi guys my baby is 4 weeks old roday! His soft spot is dipped slightly is this normal? My health visitor won't see me as I have been discharge and with the covid 19 situation there is no home visits in my area. IV read online it can mean dehydrated baby is feeding well and has wet nappies. I'm just wondering if a little bit of cooked water would be any good my mum said she always gave us a little water there's 5 of us all breastfed but I'm her youngest and 26 so things have changed alot since. Any advice?? I have read some people saying a little water is fine and then also some saying don't give the baby water? I have called my gp but it's a 3 week wait at the Moment.
