Fine Derlor thanks. Been planning a kitchen in Ikea. DD done a really stinky poo in there which everyone could smell ....cur find the changing facilities Quick!

Charlie999 · 07/09/2007 21:43

Very child friendly place! I notice these sorts of things now....

sputnik · 07/09/2007 21:43

Pretty sure mine are slinki minkis Holly. They are nice looking, fairly slimline, quick drying but not sure how long lasting the lining is, they feel a bit dampish on the outside sometimes, and DD didn't wear them that much as grew fast. This compared to the several trillion times I must have washed my faithful mothereases. Geet 1 or 2 for the fun factor I'd say.
God are we talking nappies again

riabutterflew · 07/09/2007 21:46

well done to your ds derlor.

i am off school already - we have made such an effort to teach ds2 his name, and the school spell it with a Z, not just on the first day, but today too. they also told off ds1 for going to say hi to his brother at playtime. bastards,

willpower has left me...

fwiw re earlier conversation, my thoughts are much the same. isn't there some sort of psychological disorder where you need to draw attention to yourself after that sort of thing? look at that huntley bastard who made a point of being interviewd. i would very much like to be proved wrong though and that there is a happy ending. bloody real life stinks.

i would also like to be as fat as i was 10 years ago

sputnik · 07/09/2007 21:47

they have a nice quiet room with sofas where you can change, feed or chill out a bit with lOs, nice. Only sensible though really, half their customers have young children.

Derlor, what's your take on the bLW thing as a hv? It intrigues me.

loonylovegood · 07/09/2007 21:48

Thanks sputnik! I'm really confused about this nappy thing! I need to set aside a couple of hours and do some proper research. I keep getting distracted and then losing websites and forgetting what I've read!

I'm gonna go to bed now, I'm really hot and bothered!

Oh and I weaned my dd at 16 weeks, this time I'll prob try and leave it til 20 weeks or so. Mainly because of the hassle of making baby food! With dd I used to spend hours lovingly preparing wonderful organic purees. I think poor ds is going to have to just eat what he's given!

sputnik · 07/09/2007 21:55

Re weaning... my DD was a bit funny in that she really prefered milk for ages, up to 8 or 9 months if I remember right. We started giving her apple and stuff around 5 months under instructions from paed as she wouldn't poo for days on end, have since found out that is actually normal for bf babies. Anyway, was ages before she took to solids, but she was always on the 95th percentile so go figure. Shee was also never interested in putting stuff in her mouth, so don't think bLW would'vee been much good. Didn't get teeth til 1 year either.

derlor · 07/09/2007 21:55

Charlie, the longer you can put off weaning the better. LO's digestive system is not FULLY ready for food until 6 months. however, MOST babies are weaned before this. Don't be confused by babies natural tendancy to eat their own fists - this does not indicate that they are hungry.
Also, growth spurts happen regularly and babies need to feed more diuring this time, mothers often confuse these times with babies needing to progress on from milk to solids but they are just growing babies who need more milk often for a few days.
Don't be afraid to increase the amount of milk you give if you feel your LO needs it. So long as LO is not screeming for more after every feed and waking up more often throughout the night, i'd say you are doing right by him/her just now.

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 21:56

Ria, my forensic psychology lecturer told us that the police often put parents in front of the camera in a press conference to gauge their behaviour and see if they slip up or something.

Charlie999 · 07/09/2007 21:57

Fantastic - thanks Derlor...

Do you go with the puree and baby rice thing or finger foods out of interest?

sputnik · 07/09/2007 21:58

God it is a hassle, isn't it. That and the hours you spend trying to get a spoonful or 2 down them. That's why I'm quite attracted by the BLW idea of just having them sat on your lap at mealtimes and letting them grab a bit of whatever they fancy off your plate.

derlor · 07/09/2007 21:59

Sputnik, personally i wouldn't advise BLW till 6 months, this is when gag reflex has FULLY formed.

derlor · 07/09/2007 22:03

Charlie, if weaning before 6 months - puree and baby rice etc.
if weaning at 6 months - finger food is fine
(gag reflex thing)

sputnik · 07/09/2007 22:05

I'm quite happy exclusively BF for 6 months in fact, and a bit annoyed I was advised otherwise by a paed last time (have been given a different one now, we don't have HVs here but everyone is assigned a paediatrician). DD wasn't constipated, she just didn't poo (2 different things) Baby Sputnik quite often sits on my lap at mealtimes but hasn't showed any interest yet

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 22:12

On the weaning side of things.....i was reading a thread the other day where someone was asking about weaning and when their LO would be ready for it.

One of the responses was when they grab a handful of spuds off your plate and start munching.

If your interested in BLW, find Aitch on here. She has a very good blog about it.

It's funny but when I had DS I was so much more influenced by my parents and sisters telling me Ds was ready for food. this time around I've looked into a lot of stuff on here about BLW, and obviously other issues, and think i want to keep up with the exclusive milk feeding (whether that be BF or FF) until at least six months, and be a little more natural about things.

"when they grab a handful of spuds off your plate and start munching."

excellent quote Daisy, it's so true.

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 22:17

....and like holly I lovingly prepared purees of this that and the other and freezed them in ice cubes initially, but it was just Sooooo time consuming. DD will also be pretty much fending for herslef.

Derlor....i read somewhere that you shouldn't delay weaning much beyond six months as the baby's natural iron store is getting depleted and needs topping up. Is there any thruth in that? Surely if BM is the perfect food it will cater for that. I'm pretty sure that in the depths of history babies were exclusivelyvBF for much longer than six months.

Aitch's Blog.

That was easy to find...I googled it and it was second on the list!

sorry for being dim (again) but what it blw?

i am wondering about adding a FF. only wondering tho.
baggins has not settled at all at daytime for at least the last two days. he might have a six hour stretch at night so i'm not complaining as such, just worried i'm not satisfying him as he needsto feed all the time.

but, as daisy said earlier, at least he's cuddly and doesn't answer back.

i have had some crisps

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 22:24

Ria...BLW is baby led weaning. you pretty much skip the puree stage and let them eat what they want when they want. Have a read of Aitch's blog.....and the photos are fab!

Off to feed DD girlies, have a good weekend if I don't get a chance to come on here.

Charlie999 · 07/09/2007 22:27

Thanks ladies .....will leave as long as I can and do some research until then...just found that the weaning topic on MN is a bit biased...

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 22:27

Ria...is he having a growth spurt?

bbayboo has been the same. And remember if they sleep longer at night they need to feed more during the day to get in all the milk they need.

Babyboo is sleeping anything between 9 and 12 hours at night so I'm pretty much glued to the sofa as you can imagine. IMHO...I don't think switching to formula will fill him up better. It will give you a bit of a break though.

jury is out on that one Daisy - read this article

derlor · 07/09/2007 22:33

i'd say that do what feels right for you - it's your baby and you know them best.
