Hello?

nappynuttynormabutty · 07/09/2007 10:54

Hey Dippy

zazas · 07/09/2007 10:55

Hi. Can't really catch up - but I hope all is OK.
Have had a rough few days - I think I posted that S was ill with vomiting etc last weekend, well her temperature kept going up so we went to the Drs on Monday who said to keep giving her calpol and to call the next day to organise a urine test. That night her fever was as high as 103 and so I rang a friend first thing in the morning who is a DR who saw her straight away and sent us to the children's unit at the hospital.

After a barrage of tests including a lumber puncture they diagnosed a kidney infection and started her on an IV of antibiotics. It was so scary as she seemed OK and next minutes after her blood test results (which were spectacularly high for infection) that were taking about a brain infection before they ruled that out. Luckily she responded well and once she managed to tolerate the antibiotics by mouth she was allowed to come home- last night.

She is OK now - just a wee bit worn out but she perked up as soon as we came home, I am sure she though her future was a hospital room and being constantly pricked!

All I can say is that with young babies any sign of fever needs to be looked at in hospital. The Drs there explained our easily it is for young babies to get very ill and very quickly. We got there in time but I am quite at the 1st Dr who said to wait - she was far to sick to take that approach!

Anyway she is going to be fine - we have a few hospital tests ahead to rule out complications and about 7 weeks of antibiotics to take but I was grateful that we live somewhere where we can get get such great medical care when we need it.

Other than that we are Ok

weeonion · 07/09/2007 10:59

oh zazas - how scary for you. that is awful but i am really glad that you are all ok. bloody stupid dr sending you away. you are right - we have to listen to our instincts. thining of you,

CaptainDippy · 07/09/2007 11:01

So glad your precious girlie is getting the care she needs now, Zazas, how frightening for you. xx

EvangelinesMum · 07/09/2007 11:02

Back from swimming - E seemed to like it but got a bit cold after 20 mins so we got out. I only bought a swim nappy from mothercare not a costume, thought thats all you needed whoops! They did a song session for the kids/babies as well which I didnt expect so that was nice.
Sorry your bub is ill Pesha - hope he feels better soon. I know what you mean about mums cooing - Eva gets it a lot and I know I shouldnt but I really enjoy it and feel very proud!!
Nappy - glad your washer is sorted now, sorry Erin is having teething issues - I dont think Eva will be far behind in that respect. She sometimes cries for unidentifiable reasons and I think it must be her teeth. I always feel bad as there isnt much I can do for her except calpol, etc, oh well.

leakyR · 07/09/2007 11:03

Helloooo!

Not really here. Should be packing, or rather repacking to go to Lakes this aft. Have done G (apart from nappies which are washing now) and dh just need to rummage for my stuff. Weather is fab now but I've packed for rain and cold too.

Nice to see you Dippy. Scrabble Queen

Have a fun week. I'll try and catch up with you all next Friday when I get back.

EvangelinesMum · 07/09/2007 11:11

God, zazas how frightening. Glad she is okay now. Thanks for sharing your story as well, first time mums like me need to know things like this in case it happens to our LO's. Cant always trust the doctors either by the sound of it

CaptainDippy · 07/09/2007 11:16

Hi Evangelinesmum - Welcome to the Madness! Glad you enjoyed swimming, they tend not to be able to cope with more than about 20 mins at 1st .... and they usually sleep for England when you are done - hurrah! You don't need to put any more than a swim nappy on them if you don't want to - the baby swimming cossie is just "for show" (and cute too )

Hi Leaky - I only just beat you!! Hope you have a super fab time away sweetie - will start a new game when you get back .... may the battle commence!!!

Working LOADS this week - need the money BADLY though, so that is good.

I'm sorry if I confused / uset anyone btw - my head's a bit all over the place atm, trying to straighten out my thoughts etc ....

PS I LOVE Ellie! xxxx

leakyR · 07/09/2007 11:19

x post zazas!

You're right to be mad at GP. Hospitals can be scary places but at least dd is getting the right care.

George had a urine infection at 16 days, he didn't feed properly for 12 hrs and had a temp. It was Saturday so we took him to hospital, within an hour his resp rate had risen higher than his heart rate. All the tests were terrifying, but because babies can become ill so quickly they have to be quite aggressive with treatment and tests.

Big hugs to you and dd. Hope all is well now.

zazas · 07/09/2007 11:36

Yes trust your instincts Mothers!

Gosh that was young Leaky to have an infection - I bet that was terrifying. Where in the lakes are you going - we live here - it is lovely today!

CaptainDippy · 07/09/2007 11:52

Yes do trust your instincts!! DD1 had Pneumonia when she was 15 months and nearly died - if I hadn't called an ambulance when I did, she might now be here now.

newy · 07/09/2007 11:52

HI all! I think I've missed about 10 threads since the last time I posted, really am slack. Hi evismum. I joined this thread a bit late too. I've booked DS to go to swimming lessons on Fri and I'm terrified about the practicalities. Suppose you don't know til you've tried
I work in A&E and no-one minds if you bring in babies with a temp. Although someone brought in kid wth a 'rash' which turned out to be raspberry jam! We wish all were like that!

elkiedee · 07/09/2007 12:00

Well, I've found the website for the makers of our shower/bath taps unit. I probably could have got it sorted under guarantee but haven't been able to find the paperwork - and it might not have worked anyway, as it was bought/installed by a builder and his team and the guarantee conditions include being the original purchaser. I believe they did a great job but Ray the builder has sadly since died of leukemia. Anyway, let that be a warning to you all, register your appliances and keep the paperwork somewhere easy to find even when you have a screamy infant or even several to deal with. eeek.

A handyman has advised replacing the whole system but I think it's probably worth getting it looked at by someone who deals with aqualisa products and paying for labour and spare parts - I don't think it's actually a very big job if someone knows what they're doing, and it might be a part that costs £50 including VAT. A pain but the system cost quite a lot more than that.

Zazas, sorry to hear about your baby but glad she's ok now.

elkiedee · 07/09/2007 12:01

Glad to see you popping in Dippy . How are things with you?

CaptainDippy · 07/09/2007 12:19

Things are manic, but ok ..... trying to take deep breaths and take one thing at a time ......

Panic stations atm though - MIL supposed to be here by now ...... got times mixed up and has now been knocked off her bike, racing to get here in time! She is absolutely fine, but the guy who drove into her drove off!!!!!!!!!! DH has gone to pick her up so not sure what is happening now, 'phoned boss who wasn't v.sympathetic ....... ARGH!!

OK, just had call - nearly here ... gotta gooooooooo

leakyR · 07/09/2007 13:23

Off to Pooley Bridge. Lovely cottage, we stayed there last year with dh's parents, sis and her dh. Just us and the ILs this time as SIL's baby is due in 4 weeks. Hoping DH and I can escape to the pub across the road some evenings. Should be a good week.

runnyhabbit · 07/09/2007 14:56

Afternoon all!

Had the scariest 5 seconds of my life last night. W has a dream feed about 11ish, and usually stays in bed with us for a little while (he is so cuddly, and cos its unlikely we'll have anymore, I'm making the most of it) Anyway, I'm dozing, when I realise I can't hear W breathing. He seemed so still, I had to go right up close to him, and keep my hand on his back. That was ok, then I went to pick him up to put him in his cot, and his arm was all limp. I could do anything to it, and got no reaction from him. At this point I woke dh, told him it was his fault, cos he probably slept on his arm. His arm was ok, we both realised that W was actually in a deep sleep. Poor thing didn't know what was going on when we woke him up.

Anyway.....have actually managed to read the thread, so am going to try some personals

cd - got formula yesterday. thank you
mammyjo - got your text, thank you. and that cake sounds yummmmmm
zazas - how awful. at 1st doc, but glad everythings better now.
leaky - have a nice hol
sol - glad dh has seen the light would you mind if I e-mailed you about some work stuff? Need a bit of advice on something. Won't do it over the weekend though
pesha - if you need nasal/saline drops, ask for them at the pharmacy, instead of getting them off the shelf. Much cheaper. And they work wonders.
emummy - welcome to the madness

and hello to everyone else!

elkiedee · 07/09/2007 16:52

Runny, what a scary moment. I'm always checking that D's breathing, and I know my stepsister also with a v new baby once rang her dad in a panic. Fortunately Charlie was fine.

Sexonlegs · 07/09/2007 20:32

Where is everyone??? No posts for over 3 hours...

Zaza's, I am so sorry that S was so poorly, and how incredibly frightening. I hope she is recovering and you are recovering from the shock.

Runny, same goes for you. How frightening. And of course you can email me. Any time. Tbh the weekends are almost better, as at least dh is around to deal with the dd's.

Elkie, hope you get your shower sorted.

CD, hope you are ok. Sounds like you are having a bit of a down time. Hugs to you.

Hi to everyone else I have once again failed to mention.

All ok here. B finished preschool at 1.00 today and I went bearing gifts. I have to say I had to leave quite quickly, as the tears started. We then went straight to story time at B's big school, and having initially been excited she just didn't want to join in. She wanted to go running outside, not sit and listen to stories! She loves being outside and I think she is going to find it a struggle being confined inside. We then all went for a bike ride over to a pub and had a meal. We bought a trailer to attach to dh's bike, and both B and K go in it. K has a special baby seat in it. They look so cute together.

Hope you are all ok, and enjoying your ives!!!
