Just putting this on in case anyone wants to catch up? We're all at different stages, so might be able to help each other out?

@Delilah7 @RanchoRelaxo @MrsR16 @thumper59 @trashkitten10 @Bostonfern @crossfitgirl sorry I know I'm missing people, I'm blaming newborn brain!

I'll leave the link on the 'pregnancy' catching up thread xxx

@ELW85 it’s so tough isn’t it because with reflux, colic etc the HCPs recognise them and that they’re awful but there’s just bugger all they can do. Conor never used to sleep well at all (he still kicks off in the pram if he wakes up) but that’s why I started sleep training them as I was at my wits end. I think 8-9 weeks is the earliest you can do it and I started immediately haha. He slept through for the first time at 10 weeks old and I felt like a new woman.
Definitely try the GP again, I think they’re taking a lot more ‘regular’ appointments now too. I really hope you get some help soon!

Fivebyfive2 · 14/05/2020 14:38

@ELW85, oh god I hope things improve for your little man soon, it's horrible when you feel like there's nothing you can do!

When Joe is over tired (at least I think this is the main cause) he can go nuclear, but we've noticed more that he now has a 'I'm sad' noise! Not screaming, or even proper crying, just like a warble kind of noise. It usually means he wants a cuddle! But when he does go nuclear.... Omfg!!! Genuinely worried what the neighbours must think sometimes 😮

Still no rolling from back to front, but he does try to do a (slightly feeble!) commando crawl and his sitting is gradually improving.

In other new... My mil is currently not speaking to me because I had the nerve to point out guidelines still say her and fil can't come over to our house... Aaahh welllll 🤷‍♀️😕

@ELW85 thank you! Aww Finn is gorgeous! Had a proper meltdown today. She slept 9pm til 1am last night then only would nap for 45 mins at a time. I had lost the plot by this morning.

@MrsEG Thank you! Your boys a so lovely! she was ok after her jags. Slept a lot but otherwise seemed not bothered.
@thumper59 thank you, your wee Freddie is so handsome!

Any tips on how to stop baby from going nuclear after a bath. She seems fine in bath but as soon as I lift her out she goes mental! Not sure how this is going to work once we start daily baths as nighttime routine in about a month's time?!

ELW85 · 15/05/2020 21:26

@LikeTheFruit - thank you! Ah yes, that sounds horrendous! Finn has always been decent at 3 x 3 hour segments but I worry as his reflux is getting worse that it’ll affect him sleeping longer. Dropping a feed might help though.
Re: the bath, if you don’t already, wrap her in a towel whilst she’s still in there and tell her what you’re doing as you do it. Obviously they’re really sensitive to temp shifts so as warm and quickly as you can with a little massage thrown in eventually. They learn to love it!

Well ladies last night was reflux hell. He was so poorly with it, 111 wanted to call USA ambulance. He screamed for hours until he went hoarse.
The registrar was amazing and gave us Omeprazole after confirming silent reflux.
I’ve had 2 hours sleep but finally feel like I’m not going mad or over analysing and finally DH believes me too.
We’ve not given him it yet as I want up try and adjust his feeds this weekend to see if we can alleviate it that way. It’s great to relieve his pain but it’s a pretty hard drug he’d have to be weaned off, so we are trying to avoid it. That said, reflux peaks at 4 months so we might end up there anyway. Keep everything crossed for us, ladies!

MrsH497 · 16/05/2020 05:49

Hi ladies!! Time to join you on this one now!!

Charlotte Annabelle Lily was born on Wednesday 13/5/2020 at 1321 weighing 7lb 4oz. Had to have a c section after she was breech an ecv that didn't work (thank god it didn't her arm was behind her back and cord around her neck)

We came home Thursday night. I'm besotted with her. All adjusting to our new roles as mummy, daddy and baby!

@MrsH497 Ahh she's beautiful 🥰 congratulations! Hope you're recovering okay :)

@ELW85 You poor thing :( And poor Finn being so uncomfortable. Shows that mama knows best and you were right to think something was up. Hope last night was better for you all

@LikeTheFruit Missed your post with lovely little Esme. Those first smiles are so precious :)

Well Daisy must have got wind that it's the weekend as after getting up at 5:30 all week she's still asleep. Who'd have thought I'd ever be rejoicing at a lie in until 7am on a Saturday haha.

Is there anyone who has slightly older babies @thumper59 @stormtrooperjulian still battling a lot of sickiness? Daisy is 6.5 months now and has always been a happy puker but I kind of assumed once she was sitting up and eating solids this would decrease. She's admittedly not eating much in the way of solids yet (blw) but it's enough to make her sick both colourful and pretty rancid at times. So far it's mainly been over herself, me and one spectacular sick all over her baby carrier but I'm dreading it staining the carpet and furniture and stinking out the house haha. She sicks up after pretty much every solid or milk feed and a dozen or more times through the day. Is this normal? I thought the constant milk sick was bad, colourful stinky sick is a whole new issue 🤦🏻‍♀️

thumper59 · 16/05/2020 08:13

@likethefruit thankyou, Freddie used to hate getting out the bath!! He's got better as he's got older, we also make it quite a game for him while getting his creams and pjs on! By singing to him and playing with him

@ELW85 sorry your going through such a shit time with it. Glad they've finally helped though! At least you've got it there to help if the other routes don't work out.

@MrsH497 congratulations. She is wonderful ❤️

@TrashKitten10 he's not to bad now, sometimes he is a bit sicky after a bottle still but I think it's because he doesn't sit still long enough to let it really go down. He has had some foody sicks and yes it stinks!! But Freddie is quite a greedy sod so think it's usually when he's over ate. X

MrsEG · 16/05/2020 10:39

@Fivebyfive2 Your MIL sounds like a treat haha! To be honest I’m having a similar row with my own mum. I mentioned she could come round once a week as long as we play it safe and if any neighbours get nosy we say she is cleaning. But now she’s pissed off she can’t come every day. What can you do!

@ELW85 I’m so glad you’ve had some help and finally have some medication. I know it’s scary to use something on them when they are so tiny but if it’s going to help him then go for it.

@LikeTheFruit The boys still go nuts after the bath! They love getting ready to go in (they love a bit of naked time!!), love the bath but they squeal when they come out. I hear it’s very very normal when they’re little as they’ll feel the cold so much more. I just try and whizz them on to the changing table and get them dry as quick as I can!

@MrsH497 She is gorgeous! Look after yourself post section; I didn’t and ended up in an awful state! Lots and lots of fluids. Get DH to pass you the baby so you’re not twisting in bed. Those are my tips!

@TrashKitten10 The boys sleep til 7, it’s wonderful isn’t it?! They used to wake between 5:30-6:30 so it feels like such a treat these days!! Ah hope the sickness clears up soon. The boys are quite pukey babies too - had to clear a particularly sticky one off the sofa last night!!

@thumper59 Hope you guys are doing well!

Hope everyone is okay! I had two bad days with my PPD this week it kinda came out of nowhere. I think maybe the lockdown announcement and also my DH being self employed and his payout from the gov being monumentally shite triggered it a bit. I couldn’t even muster the energy to eat. I went to bed at 7:30 last night as soon as the boys were down and feel much better for it.

We also finally have a sort-of reason for all Conors screaming - GP now thinks he could have a lactose intolerance. He’s started on these drops and the change has honestly been immediate. He now only cries when he’s tired. It’s a revelation!!

Struggling with Ruairí fussing and waking in the night though as he is trying to suck his hands and gets a bit frustrated by it and wakes himself up. Any other babies do this?? Conor is also a hand sucker but at night he self-soothes sucking his thumb and sleeps through. But I’ve been up every night all week with Ruairí practically poking his bloody eyes out. I have to give a dummy in the end to settle him back down.

Happy Saturday all! I’m gonna try and snap myself out of my lull with a bath and book once DH finishes work at 12. Boys are also currently treating me to a very long nap!

MrsH497 · 16/05/2020 11:38

@MrsEG thank you. I forget I'm only just into my 3rd day post surgery after a "failed" ECV as well so my uterus was sore anyway!
Any other tips? I'm still sore and a lot of women I know say oh day 3 I felt fine! I still hurt!

But wow there's nothing better than being a mum and like you had a nice c section experience.
X

MrsEG · 16/05/2020 11:52

@MrsH497 I felt so sore the first week, I was in hospital still on day 3 and back in by day 5 too so I still had access to the good drugs haha! I’d say after 2 weeks though I did feel fine. It’s amazing how fast the body can heal! But definitely drink loads of water as I ended up with an awful kidney infection. I just wasn’t taking care of myself - you sort of forget you’ve had a huge surgery don’t you?! And just crack on with it! How are you finding these first few days?

MrsH497 · 16/05/2020 12:05

Cried a lot yesterday! Breastfeeding is tough and she will only sleep on us! I'll make sure I drink loads of water! Kinda glad you didn't just magically find you felt ok I thought I was a wimp! Think my milk is coming in as my boobs are HUGE!

cupcakesandglitter · 16/05/2020 13:06

@MrsR16 they really are! She's quite stubborn and only does them when she feels like it, same with responding back to us 😂 she's had some lovely (loud) conversation with DH when she's in a good mood, but most of the time she spends being cheeky and not giving much away 😂 same here, I can't believe we were all TTC together!!

@thumper59 omg what a chunky baba 😍 he's so gorgeous, I can't believe he's six months already?!

@stormtrooperjulian yaaaay go Dex!! Have you thought about how to stop him going for cat food? It's something I'm dreading 😂

@Fivebyfive2 Joe is so handsome, I can't believe he's five months?!

@ELW85 how're you feeling now? Have you used the Omeprazole? Hope you've got some more sleep? Dina is massively constipated some days and screams in pain when she's trying to poo, it's the worst thing to watch and is so heartbreaking. Sorry it's late but Dina is only a week older than Finn so I thought I'd answer your questions if it helps? We don't have a nap schedule, just letting her nap when she's tired really. At night she falls asleep feeding in bed and then I wait until she's knocked out and put her into her snuzpod. Dina was super boring until one day it just snapped out of her (guessing at the end of the leap) and she's now started to respond back and smile a lot more, but if we stimulate her too much she knocks out for a good couple of hours at least!

Ahhh @LikeTheFruit how beautiful is Esme!!! Dina is 8 weeks today so Esme must be a week older?! With all the hospital visits I had that week I mustn't have realised I'm so sorry if that's the case, she's beautiful, congratulations! How did the jabs go? Ours are on Tuesday and I'm dreading it!! I've not got any advice re after the bath, Dina does the same 😔 she screamed so loud one day she went blue!! I think it's the temperature change but I take her to a super hot room, her clothes are on the radiator but it makes zero difference, she won't stop until she's dressed and fed 😞

@TrashKitten10 6.5 months?! Where has that time gone?! Did you enjoy your lie in? What a great start to the weekend 😅

@MrsEG have the boys had a growth spurt?! They're looking so grown up 🥺 zero judgement here for visiting your parents, I'm absolutely fed up of the whole situation now!! Sorry to hear about your week 😞 are you feeling any better today? Glad to hear you have an answer for Conor, I bet it's wonderful you've found a solution for his crying bless him. Oh bless Ruari, could you leave the dummy with him so as soon as he starts fussing he can have it? Dina doesn't do it but she does fuss when she's gassy which always wakes her up 😞

@MrsH497 massive congratulations! And doesn't she look like you?! Beautiful baby, lovely name too 🥰 Breastfeeding definitely is hard! It's such a journey that no one warns you about - don't give yourself a hard time over it at all, it's a new process for both you and baby! If it helps, we've only got into the swing of it in the last couple of weeks, definitely struggled up until then. Also don't feel like a wimp!! You grew a baby and that took 9 months - give your body the same time to get back to "normal". You've done an amazing job, look after yourself and your body will heal in its own time 🥰

cupcakesandglitter · 16/05/2020 13:08

Sorry @Fivebyfive2 completely forgot to type what I was thinking 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ sounds like MIL is being a bit difficult - it's hard with COVID isn't it, you give an inch and suddenly everyone wants a mile!! Glad you're sticking to your guns though, it's whatever you're comfortable with!

MrsH497 · 16/05/2020 13:34

@cupcakesandglitter hey! Think it was a whirlwind few days with suddenly finding out she was breech, booked in for an ECV that didn't work (they did scan to check cord and apparently wasn't round her neck!) being booked in for a c section the next day and finding out her little arm was behind her back/cord round neck. Looked at my midwife notes and they resuscitated her which I didn't know (position and some breaths)

We will get there with feeding I think.

So good to see you all!

Fivebyfive2 · 16/05/2020 14:39

Hi ladies, happy Saturday!

@ELW85, so glad the Dr gave you the stuff for Finn. If they say it will help, go for it... Hope it makes him feel better xxx

@MrsH497, congratulations!! To echo @MrsEG, watch out for the twisting, that's what did me in as I kept forgetting!

@MrsEG, sorry to hear your mum is giving you a bit of a hard time about visiting. I think it's sending people a bit round the twist now to be honest! Like @cupcakesandglitter says, you give an inch... Glad the boys are giving you a bit of a rest. Enjoy your bath 🛀😀

@cupcakesandglitter, yeah mil is definitely hard work at the moment. She's speaking to me again now, although that involved her 'advising' us to wean Joe early and put rusks in Joe's bottle. When we pointed out he hardly has a bottle, she replied with 'well he should, you're probably not enough for him now he's bigger' 🙄🙄🙄

@TrashKitten10, oh god I can just imagine the sick that Joe will do once he's on food... He's on his 5th change of clothes today. We're thinking of just putting him in a sack to be honest 😂

Slight progress, Joe can now go from his back to his side! Still doing super tiny commando crawls and when he sits he proper lunges forward so we have to watch him like a hawk. And still doing pools of drool! His current favourite thing is rolling around in the nip, grabbing his feet 😀 Action shot attached!

@MrsR16, how are you getting on with Ethan these days?

stormtrooperjulian · 16/05/2020 14:39

@ELW85 the reflux sounds awful, must have been so scary having to go to A&E! I hope the medication helps. I've heard from friends that ranitidine is the best but apparently very hard to get at the moment. Do you keep him upright for half an hour after feeds? I know that helped slightly for a friend of mine, along with tilting one end of the crib to keep the head slightly raised, you've probably already tried everything though. I really hope it improves soon.

@MrsH497 Congratulations! She's beautiful. The first few days are really tough, the hormone crash around day 3 is awful and breastfeeding can be really hard (no matter what rubbish the nct groups spout about how it's easy and doesn't hurt 🙄), use lots of nipple cream and make sure the latch is good and it will get easier

@TrashKitten10 at 6.5 months we still got loads of sick, I was confused cos I thought it was supposed to get better after starting weaning and for a few weeks if anything it seemed worse! At 7.5 months now it's so much better, hardly any sick now.

LikeTheFruit · 17/05/2020 03:38

@ELW85 So sorry you've had such an awful time with reflux but I'm glad you're finally being listened to. Re: Bath situation do you mean put the towel on when they're in the water (so it gets wet) and then lift out and onto second dry towel? I'll try anything!

@MrsH497 Huge congratulations! She's beautiful. Take it easy for the next few weeks, really don't be tempted to do anything bar looking after yourself or baby. I got myself quite worked up that I "wasn't doing anything" but I was recovering and keeping Esme alive!!

@TrashKitten10 Thank you! I'm glad you got a long lie. Esme possets quite often but maybe only vomits once a week or so. I'm always so surprised how happy she is immediately afterwards, I've never grinned post-vom 😂😂

@thumper59 @MrsEG Glad I'm not the only one with the getting out the bath issues!!

@cupcakesandglitter Thank you so much, I'm so in love with her! Esme is just 5 days older than Dina (she was 10 days overdue!). She cooed with the jags far better than me! I was sobbing before they'd even started, everyone was so lovely and if they could have hugged me they would have. Esme screamed a new cry I'd never heard before which tbh was pretty distressing BUT it was very short lived and she was fast asleep before we'd left the GP surgery. She was fine after just sleepy, slept for a full 5 hours that night,,,which hadn't lasted 😂😂. Hope you get on ok!!

@Fivebyfive2 God your MIL sounds like a nightmare. This situation is bad enough without additional stress/unwanted opinions!!

Oh well ladies, hoping the pooing overnight doesn't last too much longer. Esme just stealth pooed EVERYWHERE!! So we're in new pjs and sleeping bag at 3am! Fortunately she found the whole thing hilarious...I did not. Now to get her back to sleep after all the excitement!!

MrsR16 · 18/05/2020 12:31

Hey ladies! We've been having a bit of a mare over the last week or so, hence why I've been very quiet on here. Long story short, I've managed to get Ethan some baby Gaviscon and had to change his bottles to anti-colic! He seems much happier now which means I'm much happier. Genuinely went through a stage of "I really can't do this, what have I done to my life?" involving lots of tears and not understanding what I was doing so wrong! We also weighed him (horribly inaccurate use of bathrooms scales) and now I'm panicking I've fed him too much as he's 22lb according to the scales!! But hey, we seem to be doing alright now 😊

Thanks for all the mentions! You ladies have been epically busy on here! Congratulations to @MrsH497 @LikeTheFruit and @ELW85 - I've missed so many babies!!! They're all so beautiful!

I will try and do better at staying up to date! I'm seeing poo explosions (I feel you - had to change our bed early one morning as Ethan had pooed and it exploded everywhere!!), MILs being a pain in the arse and A&E visits (I'm glad things have settled down!)

You're all doing such an amazing job ladies!

ELW85 · 18/05/2020 18:55

Hiya everyone
Finn seems to have settled a bit but we haven’t started the Omeprazole yet. I know this makes me an awful mother, but the GP said it wasn’t tested widely in babies under 1 and if he wasn’t having a screaming fit every day or losing weight she wouldn’t medicate him.
She reckons that kids should be left to grow out of it, they’ve had to previously as the drugs weren’t available etc. I have no idea what to do.
Any opinions welcome, I’m tired from it all!

Fivebyfive2 · 18/05/2020 19:48

@MrsR16, aaaah I'm so glad things are on the up for you guys! It's so hard when you feel like you're doing things wrong xx I have it sometimes with Joe and his (recent lack of) sleep, but you know what?? They're babies, we're new at this and we're doing our best! Ha ha omg 22lb,that's amazing, he's always loved his food though hasn't he?! I wouldn't worry, I don't think they can really over feed much yet, if it's too much they spit it up I think?? A mum from my NCT group has a lad that weight (roughly) and he's about a week younger than Joe, so a few weeks behind Ethan, he's just a strapping lad 😀

@ELW85, it's a tough one! If he's doing better without the drugs then you could wait and see, but the Dr at the hospital sounds like they knew the score when it was given? I'd probably try him on it if I'm honest, if only to avoid another instance of what happened to get you in A&E, but totally get your reservations. Xxx

So today has been OK, Joe had a couple of decent naps, he even did 2 hours in his snuzpod so I got a proper rest! Usually 2 hour naps are only on me or in the pram! He also enjoyed naked time and was absolutely captivated when dh did story time earlier, it's so sweet to watch 😍

Here is Joe with his 'sonic screwdriver' 😂

Ttc first baby catch up with our babies!
OP posts:
ELW85 · 18/05/2020 20:02

@Fivebyfive2 - this is the thing, the GP was like “loads of babies his age cry” so she’s now got me thinking maybe he is just in the 4th Tri and whilst he fed does have silent reflux, it doesn’t account for all of the crying. He can sleep on his back fine, and I hear him swallow his reflux without crying most of the time.
I just feel like basically he wakes up and it’s a countdown to him crying and having to settle him. He cries about 20 mins after every feed unless he’s asleep. Is this normal for an 8 week old?!

ELW85 · 18/05/2020 20:04

@Fivebyfive2 - Joe is beyond adorable by the way!

And guys sorry I haven’t replied to your lovely and as always supportive comments!! I’m so tired and really trying to make the right decision.
I hope you’re all ok xx

Fivebyfive2 · 18/05/2020 20:18

@ELW85, it is so hard as all babies are different. Joe didn't really cry after feeds, boob or bottle, but we would (and still do) have to hold him up for 10 to 20 mins after. To be honest that's why I sometimes feel 'behind' on his self soothing, because by the time he's fed and we've held him up a bit, he's almost always asleep! A girl from NCT has had awful troubles with her baby though... Colic, reflux, constipated, the lot! It took almost 3 months for her to find the right combination of formula, bottles and meds in order to settle it all down. I might be a bit biased here... I was born with a severe problem with my oesophagus and was fed through a tube at first. My mum had to give me gaviscon and meds until I finally had an op at 2 years old to properly fix it. I'm fine now, just take gaviscon occasionally. It's so scary being a mum though, all the pressure to make the right call... I still feel weird when the Dr calls Joe's name and I'm called 'mum' it's like 'oh yeah, that's my role now'!!! What does your partner think? I mean, you've got the meds to hand now at least, so you can always judge how you feel Finn is and see what you think? Xxx

OP posts:
MrsEG · 18/05/2020 20:19

@ELW85 the way you have described Finn there is identical to Conor, and he’s 15 weeks now. He’s happy as Larry when he first wakes up in the morning, angelic almost. We feed him and then 15 mins later he goes nuclear. If I pick him up and walk around with him he calms down a bit but generally he screams until nap time. I take him out in the pram, he sleep for a bit but I’m on tenterhooks for him waking up for as soon as he does it’s scream time again. We’ve just always been told colic, and more recently perhaps a lactose intolerance. I questioned reflux when he was newborn but he didn’t have enough of the symptoms and now he’s older I’m sure it’s not. He sleeps far too well on his back haha! Only time he bloody shuts up. He consistently gains weight, rarely vomits etc. He’s back at the GP tomorrow though as today was horrific and he cried every second he was awake. So if it is this lactose thing I’m not waiting 4 sodding weeks to find out! Has your GP assessed him at all?

@Fivebyfive2 2 hour naps are the dream aren’t they!! The boys had a 2.5 hour nap yesterday morning and I absolutely blitzed the house. It’s the most organising I’ve done since they were born! He looks so cute in that pic!

@MrsR16 I really really really feel your pain! We’re going through the colic wringer with Conor, constantly. I use the MAM anti-colic, he’s on Coleif, give him gripe water, the works - nothing really seems to be working. I hate the idea of this being it til he just grows out of it!! Ugh. Back at the GP tomorrow. It’s exhausting isn’t it. So draining. I have another bloody baby to look after too haha!

ELW85 · 18/05/2020 21:18

@Fivebyfive2 - thank you, it is so, so tough. And thanks for sharing your story. DH wants to wait; I guess I do too in case it is purple crying etc and if it is reflux they’re meant to grow out of it by the time they’re sitting up. It’s just so tough.
I’m going to properly monitor his crying etc tomorrow and for another few days and see how we go.

@MrsEG - OMG I’m so sorry you’re going through this too and with another baby to look after?! I don’t know how you do it. Finn has pretty much refused to nap today which isn’t helping with the crying.
The GP is dismissive; he’s a baby, it’s Silent reflux, he’ll grow out of it. 60% of babies with reflux have CMPA so I want to at least try a special formula and treat the cause rather than the symptom, but she’s not having it. Please let me know how you get on!!
