A place to catch up on what's happening with our November 2019 babies.

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver I felt the same with my daughter when we switched to formula, I'd been so fixated on breastfeeding when I finally admitted it just wasn't working I had so much guilt. Then after a few days when I saw just how much happier she was, and I was because I didn't have a tiny baby screaming in hunger but refusing to feed all day and night, it did pass. She started gaining weight and was a different baby and I knew I'd done the right thing- you will too.

Nothing really goes to plan with babies and we just have to go with it.

Zarara · 28/11/2019 18:37

How is everyone doing how is the sleep deprivation going?

Baby is 3 weeks old and I’ve had a bit of a rough start, my stitches got infected and wouldn’t clear, also managed to get thrush and now I have mastitis Sad

I ebf but I’m now seriously considering changing one night time feed for a formula feed. I just think the lack of sleep is not helping my body recover and I hate pumping. I’m also wondering if that’s what triggered the mastitis. I have struggled with her latch from birth and have been seeing a infant feeding specialist. Whilst baby has a tongue tie she was adamant that better positioning would resolve the pain etc. To be fair it has massively but the mastitis makes me think there are still issues. Unfortunately she is away at some breastfeeding conference and I can’t get in touch with her. I’m wondering if she knew about the mastitis she would refer baby for the tongue tie separation. Has anyone got any experience with mixed feeding?

Sorry for the long post Blush

You're both right we've had such a lovely day. Me and DH have been taking it in turns to feed him today which is nice. We got out to register his birth and even had lunch out! I've not been able to do that in months because of my SPD. I still have some pain but it's miles and miles better than it was. He looks so much better in himself and he's definitely putting weight back on, he feels like he weighs a ton. His nappies have finally changed colour which took a lot longer than it should have because he was dehydrated. My midwife spoke to me on the phone this morning and she was so lovely. Saying that I'd done well to give him a week and he'd got the colostrum which was important and that I mattered too.

Kaff83 · 28/11/2019 20:44

@zarara my partner has given all three of ours a bottle a day from the first week. With my eldest it was expressed but last time and this time it's a mixture of expressed or fornula depending on how I've done expressing that day. It means I disappear off to the spare room aroujnd 330am and get four hours straight and feel good for it! My partner usually sleeps 930-330 and then gets an hour or two during his shift. Works great for us x

codenameduchess · 28/11/2019 21:56

That's great @smartcarnotsosmartdriver ! It's nice when dads can get involved a bit more too (and share the night feeds!). I know my dh feels a bit useless as baby is either feeding or asleep.

@Zarara well done for persevering! I've ended up having baby in bed with me from about midnight as he was waking every hour between then and 3/4. I was exhausted and lifting him in/out of the crib was hurting my stitches but he seems to settle (or not cry at least) in my bed. We also nap together through the day, I get a good 3 hours either in the morning or afternoon to keep me going. When my DD was a newborn we did a formula or expressed bm feed a night so DH could do it and let me sleep, it made such a huge difference!

PyjamasForever · 29/11/2019 18:51

I saw the lactation consultant today (finally... having been referred 20 days ago!), who has noted the big tongue tie I already knew was there, and referred us for a tongue tie division. I'm glad we've had some time to see if positioning will sort us out, but I'm tired or sore nips and a baby who falls off loads of times in each feed so I end up spraying milk everywhere.

We've had 2 nights where baby has (eventually) done 2 short stretches of sleep in her bedside crib, so I've been able to sleep a bit more. Feeling incredibly guilty because I'm using a purflo baby nest which clearly isn't ideal. Considering some kind of apnoea mat underneath it.

OP posts:
Zarara · 29/11/2019 21:54

@PyjamasForever we’ve got one of those mats we used it with our first because we put our sleepyhead in our bedside crib. I really recommend them because it gives me reassurance but I know some people don’t rate them. Currently we’re not using the sleepyhead for overnight sleeps but I have to admit I am tempted.

Glad to hear you finally got referred and will get the tongue tie seen to

How's everyone getting on?

PyjamasForever · 07/12/2019 19:22

@goingtoneedabiggercar Exhausted. Toddler hasn't been well and baby is a sleep dodger. Feel like we're starting to get into the rhythm of having 2 children though. How are things for you?

OP posts:
goingtoneedabiggercar · 07/12/2019 19:32

Completely forgot I name changed haha. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing but the baby is fed and warm and clean so I can't be doing everything wrong. He spends most of his days sleeping on me but sleeps ok in his next to me at night, sometimes he wakes up for a cuddle but we get some stretches of sleep.
Planning a day out tomorrow with my mum to look round the shops which will be lovely because not being able to drive is giving me cabin fever.

PyjamasForever · 07/12/2019 19:35

@goingtoneedabiggercar if you feel well it might be worth asking your insurance their rules on your driving. Mine were happy for me to drive when I felt ready so I was driving at 2 weeks.

I can only get baby to sleep for about 1hr overnight in the next to me... hoping it will improve with time.

OP posts:
goingtoneedabiggercar · 07/12/2019 19:40

@PyjamasForever I tried, insurance and health visitor said it should be fine but insurance wanted me to be cleared by the GP. GP said blanket ban before 6 weeks. No matter how fine I feel, I haven't taken pain killers in a week. We live rurally and DH doesn't drive so I can either pay an arm and a leg for the bus or wait for my mum being free.

Weathergirl1 · 08/12/2019 04:03

Lack of sleep here too, though bizarrely I really struggle to wake up in the middle of the night so DH is doing most of the overnight feeds/changes. Just took me 5 minutes of a rooster alarm on my phone to get out of bed to come downstairs to pump :-s Relieved to hear we aren't the only ones though who're having to resort to cuddles to get any sleep at all overnight

Our LO was a month old yesterday and I's struggling to remember much of that month - where did it all go?

Zarara · 08/12/2019 16:08

We’re still struggling with her latch but had her tongue tie done privately to help which seems to have helped.

Still don’t feel physically recovered though 1 month on and as I had stitches they still feel uncomfortable.

That with the sleep deprivation I’m feeling a little sorry for myself and my older one but hoping that it will pass soon.

XxAna · 08/12/2019 21:28

Hi

I have a 6 week old baby and we've been using Aptamil and he's being doing really well.

Last week, I bought another box of aptamil and it had a note to say there was a change in the formula however I decided to continue using it. It's been almost a week now and my DS has been so unsettled and projectile vomiting a lot. Has anyone else experienced the same?
Should I change the formula if so what did you change to?

Thank you in advance 💓

PyjamasForever · 10/12/2019 17:29

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling yourself. @Zarara, last week I basically couldn't stop crying so spoke to the health visitor who has suggested I go to the GP and is going to come and see me at home. I actually feel much much better this week (I think it was mostly sleep deprivation) but maybe it's worth talking to your health visitor? Is there anyone who can hold the baby while you get some sleep between feeds? 2 days of multiple naps in the day have basically recharged my batteries.

@XxAna it could be the formula, but if baby is suddenly doing projectile vomits after every feed and you're worried you could ask the GP to have a look at them. Are they still weeing and pooing okay? Not dehydrated?

OP posts:
Zarara · 17/12/2019 02:45

@PyjamasForever how are you feeling? How is everyone getting on?

The feeding has improved massively for us which has made life so much better. Baby is becoming much more alert in the day time which is nice but she still only seems happy when she’s being held.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 17/12/2019 03:17

@XxAna hiya, just read your post, I've been using Aldi mamba formula, the health visitor said it's similar to aptimil, that would be old aptimil. It's also very reasonably priced if that's an option?

I've been struggling a lot over the last week or so with anxiety. I have a horrible feeling like DS is just going to die. I've spoken to health visitor and GP who have basically said to keep an eye on how I'm feeling and if it gets worse to go back. It's making it difficult to really bond properly as I let myself enjoy my time with him and my brain chimes in with, there's no point you won't have him for long. Anyway sorry for the random detour there, felt good to write it down and get it out.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 17/12/2019 03:17

Mamia not mamba

codenameduchess · 20/12/2019 17:16

How is everyone getting on?

I've realised just now, as I take 5 minutes now that dh is home and baby isn't on the boob, that in the last month I've only managed to shave 1/2 of one lower leg... the rest of my legs are looking pretty gorilla-like. And I haven't moisturised or done any kind of self care either so my mission this weekend is to shave my legs, moisturise and maybe wrap some Christmas gifts with a glass of wine because I've done none yet 😂

Weathergirl1 · 20/12/2019 22:20

@codenameduchess ah bless you. I just had a shower at the insistence of my DH ( was erring on no time to do so!) As he reminded me I was overheating at both the GP's and HV's appointments today. Definitely need to look after ourselves 👍. I am looking forward to going to my parents' for Christmas and being looked after. Hoping we might be able to sneak out to see the new Star Wars film while we have grandparents available for cover!

We're 6 weeks and one day here and I have no idea where the time went! I've just packed away the JL newborn babygrows as he"s too long. The 0-3 are swamping him still a bit though.

LO is really struggling with gas, poor thing. It's not colic per se, but he gets so grumpy when he's working on a poo or a fart, and he's still gulpy when he feeds 😟

Hope everyone else is ok 🤞

codenameduchess · 21/12/2019 06:51

@Weathergirl1 have you tried infacol? My lo was struggling with wind and it's made a huge difference, he loves it too! His little face when I give him it is adorable and his arms start flapping. He's passing wind much easier from both ends (including in church when we went for DDs christingle service where he did a lot of very loud farts.... the year 6 boys in front of me found it hilarious!)

My DH went to see rise of the Skywalker Wednesday night, I was soooo jealous! It's the first of the new lot that I haven't seen on opening night 😭 I had to make do with the mandalorian

goingtoneedabiggercar · 28/12/2019 09:44

How's everyone getting on?
Does anyone have any experience with reflux? DS has gone from being the most chilled baby ever to being so so upset. He's sick quite often too. The doctor prescribed infant gaviscon but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

codenameduchess · 28/12/2019 11:21

@goingtoneedabiggercar my dd has reflux but gaviscon made a huge difference, if you don't see an improvement go back to your gp as they can also try ranitidine.
There are formulas to help with reflux but I think they are just thicker so wouldn't combine with gaviscon.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 28/12/2019 14:43

@codenameduchess thank you, I'll see how we get on over the weekend and go back on Monday if needs be.
