Couldnt see a post natal group so have taken it upon myself to start one! Will obviously still keep up on antenatal also until babies have all arrived!

Shall we start a list of arrivals?

Oh god so Arthur has cried constantly for hours now and projective vommed. He did this last night too and on other occasions so I actually think something is wrong. He is only consoled when upright and being walked about.

Health visitor coming around 2 luckily but typical he has just fallen asleep so u bet she won't be concerned :/

Karigan195 · 11/10/2019 13:58

Kyle it’s so cute when they do that isn’t it. :)

Megan, is she definitely getting enough food? Weight going up well etc as evening milk is not as good as morning milk. You could try expressing an milk and giving pm it topping up with formula.

DustyDoorframes · 11/10/2019 14:13

@Megan2018 I love how determined she looks even asleep!
@kyles101 the sleep chuckles!!!! I'd forgotten them! So cute!
@Karigan195 that's a myth re pm/am milk- good explanation here, about halfway down the page: kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/fussy-evening/

Megan2018 · 11/10/2019 14:27

@Karigan195
Yes I think so, she probably does 6-8 daytime feeds usually off both boobs, total feed time a good 20-30 mins and she has grown loads. She wakes on average every 2-3hrs to feed although has the odd longer sleep some days too. Not been weighed again yet but she feels heavy. We have loads of wet and dirty nappies too.
HV and MW were very happy with latch and feeding, she has been easy to feed from birth as no tongue tie etc so no reason to need topping up.

Karigan195 · 11/10/2019 16:04

Sorry I meant express or formula. Interesting that some think that’s a myth though. Midwife told me it was true 🤷‍♀️

kyles101 · 11/10/2019 16:10

@Megan2018 could it be she's not getting enough fatty satisfying milk? Apparently the first stuff is thinner and thirst quenching but not necessarily filling. Ds does about an hour if he has both sides. 20/30 mins for both seems quick for us but then some babes are far more efficient so could be fine. Could possibly explain the wet and dirty nappies but without satisfaction?

kyles101 · 11/10/2019 16:11

@DustyDoorframes so cute! We also had a proper long chat about life today too which was lovely. He's really starting to be good fun now.

Megan2018 · 11/10/2019 16:28

@kyles101 We were given a BF checklist by the MW and one of the red flags is having more than 30 mins at each boob is a cause of concern! Optimal is 5-20 mins on each. Felicity usually does 20 on the first then 5-10 on the second unless its been longer between feeds. We usually then start next feed on the boob we finished on, as that has usually been shorter-again thats what MW advised.
It's funny how the guidance varies so much. But as she is happy and gaining I’ll leave well alone.

boodles101 · 11/10/2019 16:48

Hi guys, just had a catch up with the thread. Sorry to hear some of you are struggling with feeding and unable to put baby down.
I've had pretty sleepy babies that settle next to each other but they are starting to become more awake now. They are 7 weeks old but only 3 week corrected. I've had my first proper smiles from Alex today but still waiting on the ice queen. She will certainly have a resting bitch face when she's older 😆. I think they are roughly around 8lbs and 9lbs. They are feeding 3 hourly in the day and can manage about 3.5-4 hours at night. The past few nights have been awful after 3am.
I have stupidly chosen today to start potty training my 2yo aswell!!

kyles101 · 11/10/2019 17:07

@Megan2018 who knows then, unfortunately they're not all the same, shame nothing that's worked for anyone else seems to be of use. Keep trying things out and maybe even things that don't seem to be textbook - if there was one that fitted for all this parenting lark would be easy so don't worry too much about following every letter as gospel - I've had some horrific advice from the nhs and some fantastic. Trial and error, experiment of one (or 2!) and all that. I hope you find something that works for you both and you get some sleep.

RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty · 11/10/2019 17:16

@boodles101 my nights sound similar- fairly good at settling for the start of the night but later on not so much! 4am seems to be the time for us when she wakes up and decides it's playtime.

Good luck on the potty training- I have a 2 year old also and have put off until Christmas as I can't deal right now. Impressed you're managing this with twins too! Because of nursery for the oldest I only have to deal with both of them one day a week (plus weekends) and even that seems daunting.

Megan2018 · 11/10/2019 21:40

My plan is just grin and bear it for now, HV and MW said to just go with what the baby needs for now-don’t try to change it. Easier said than done at 2am but hey ho!
Hopefully she will start to correct herself somewhere between week 6 and 12.....which isn’t long even if it feels it now.

BBell2 · 12/10/2019 09:35

Its little consolation but what @dustydoorframes says is right for us- DD never slept, like NEVER...40minutes of settling for 20minutes sleep. She was windy and horrid nothing seemed to work. Very nearly stopped us speaking never mind having a second! 11months of hell and then she switched, started sleeping, everything came early (confident walking, eating, potty training). This baby has probably slept more, still having a lot of feeds, that DD did in 3 months in a fortnight.

Dd is however being a PITA this week , wetting her pants, fibbing about stupid stuff, thrown something on a strop for the first time ever, shes usually super funny and doesn't tantrum (3yrs 2months) it's quite hard!

I'm sat in the bath and my boob is just streaming, I'm small chested and I cant understand where this excess milk is coming from, my pads are soaked all the time!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 12/10/2019 14:24

@boodles101 How is the potty training going? I did Dd just before baby came along but we definitely had a bit of a regression in the immediate weeks after the birth! Had to resort to choc button bribes! 😂

boodles101 · 12/10/2019 14:41

littlehouse it's going well so far, had a day and a half of no accidents and he's done everything on the potty. He did get chocolate buttons for his poo! The test will be at nursery on Monday!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 12/10/2019 20:56

@boodles101 Sounds good! I found dd did way better at nursery than I expected so hope he does well :)

iano · 12/10/2019 22:04

@BBell2 im with you re the tantrums. DS is a similar age to your older one and was pretty chilled before baby arrived. Not so much now Grin
The most ridiculous things will set him off and he'll have epic tantrums. Oh well! Hoping it won't last too long

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 13/10/2019 03:34

Currently using mumsnet to keep myself awake while Catherine feeds. Have had about an hours sleep tonight and struggling to stay awake 😐 She settles fine on me but tonight will not settle in her Moses basket- which she's normally fine in!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/10/2019 03:54

littlehouse Brew any luck yet?

OP posts:
Littlehouseinthebigcity · 13/10/2019 04:07

Nope! Dh woke up and offered to take her but he is such a deep sleeper I worry he'd fall asleep holding her - he's already back asleep! You up feeding?

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/10/2019 04:23

Yes! Baby is doing good at night atm though and straight back in the basket. Fingers crossed you get sleep soon! How is she during the day?

Horehound · 13/10/2019 06:34

I had a good day and night. Hurray! And he took 40ml from a bottle last nightmodified
Gona try him every day withb1 bottle. Wish me luck! He always seems to be good for 1 day then refuses the next bottle but last night he was quite awake and took the bottle no fuss.I used a haakaa bottle and a tommee tippee vari flow teat so will try that one again.
Then just 3 feeds last night so I managed some sleep. :)

Hope you got some sleep little

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 13/10/2019 07:00

Sounds good @Horehound , hope he keeps it up! And that's great @decaf - my dd could take lessons 😂 I eventually got a bit - I put her down and she woke up but didn't cry so I decided to try just leaving her and going to sleep - she must've settled ok cos I just woke to feed her! Just need to remember when I'm inevitably grumpy today how little sleep I've had

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/10/2019 08:41

BabyDECAF (formula fed) took 6oz at 1030pm. Slept 1130-330, took 3oz. Slept 4am - 7am. Has only taken 3oz of 7am bottle, now refusing to be put down to sleep. He seems to sleep much better at night which is i suppose a blessing but hard to get things done e.g. stuff with other 4 dc, housework, uni work....

Last night DD (3yo!) wanted to sleep in our bed. She's been a bit sad lately so I warned her about the baby screaming and said she could if she wanted. By the time I brought DS up to bed at 11 she had a temp of 39.3 and would only sleep in my arms. She slept through the first feed at 3 but woke up for the second at 5.30 - would only go back to sleep if I cuddled her and of course the baby wouldn't settle in his crib. So I had to cuddle both of them.

I can't even have coffee to survive the day because even if I have a tiny amount, the baby doesn't sleep.

In better news, we ditched DSs bedtime bottle of expressed milk with colief and he was fine. Still did his usual 4 hour first stint of sleep!
