Oh, and I'm a total hypocrite and the mantra goes out of the window

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/08/2007 20:20

lmao.. i know everyone keeps telling me he is feeling left out and needs MORE attention.. yeah i know that, but am i supposed to magic up an extra hour just for tom!!!

foxybrown · 11/08/2007 20:25

He's at the age when it happens anyway, new sibling or not, so don't blame yourself or feel guilty. (So easy to say, I know).

If it helps, I had problems with DS1 biting when he was 3. Had DS2 and would have been pg with DD1 I guess. Took him to a behavioural specialist at my GPs. She told me to keep a diary of what he did, what led to it, what I did, what he did afterwards etc. Helped me keep things in perspective. She also told me to spend 10 minutes a day with him 1:1.

I came away from her crying, wondering how the hell I was going to do it. But it wasn't hard (he was getting up at 6.30 so I had to forgoe any lie in) and we'd play trains for 10 mins. It worked almost immediately.

foxybrown · 11/08/2007 20:28

I'm off for the night now.

What's this about bingo Natty?!

Until tomorrow ladies xx

NattyThomasandEllen · 11/08/2007 20:38

ah i could do with an hour to myself each week.. bingo is the overworked mums tipple isnt it?!?!

sputnik · 11/08/2007 20:55

Natty, a lot of us are having trouble with big brothers/sisters, I think it really takes a lot of time for them to adjust, maybe longer than we think. As Foxy says it's the age for tantrums anyway, try and ignore them as much as possible, then give him more attention at other times. Hang in there!

annobal · 12/08/2007 08:07

Thanks Foxy, I'm okay when C feeds and goes back to sleep but he'll often grumble and moan for ages then start crying and want another feed an hour or 2 later. Thing is, he's fine if I have him in bed with me. I guess DS2 was sleeping through from 11 to 6 by the time he was 5 weeks. I like your mantra by the way

I have no idea what to say about the sibling thing. So far, touch wood, things haven't been too bad. DS1 has been having more tantrums than he has ever had in his life though - I took his cars off him the other day and that worked a treat . They are both wanting loads of cuddles as well.

foxybrown · 12/08/2007 10:05

I often co-sleep if she's not settling.

LO didn't go to sleep til midnight ... but she slept til gone 8, fed and is sleeping again . am wondering if somethings wrong now. just doesn't seem right.

Can't win, huh?

LadyTophamHatt · 12/08/2007 10:07

just gatecrashing to say what a lovely thread title this is.

it seems like 5 minutes ago I was hoping for a smile from ds4....it goes so fast!

Morning Ladies

I've had a good night with DD only up at 4.30 then 7.30 and we've only just got up .

Do any of you use grobags? Every time I go into DD she is laying there with no covers on where she gets so animated when she wakes up - however much she is tucked in when she goes to bed.

I am thinking about using a grobag for her, but I am paranoid about her getting too hot. Shall I go for a 0.5tog or 1.0tog. Even with the windows open, it is usually 22 - 25 degrees in the nursery according to the monitor (although it doesn't feel like that to me) and she is a "warm baby"

Any advice would be very welcome as they are quite expensive and I don't want to make a mistake

Hope you all have a nice day - lovely weather here so off out for a walk...

trendaverter · 12/08/2007 10:37

Charlie, I sometimes use grobags, they are pretty good, DS always sleeps very well in his. If you are worried about the cost get one cheap off ebay and see if you like it before buying a 'nice' one. I have about 5 of them! (Gifts!)

1.0 tog is fine for this weather, my LO quite likes his (although he hasn't used in a while as my mother is old fashioned and likes cellular blankets with some kind of animated passion).

1.0 tog is good though as you can just add/remove clothing layers to suit the weather - if it's very hot I just have him in a vest underneath. You can always chuck a thin blanket on top if the night suddenly chills and you don't want to wake him.

trendaverter · 12/08/2007 10:40

I actually sold my thermometer, lovely and all that but the humidity can actually make a 'cool' day much hotter!! If you followed the guidelines on days like that poor DS would be cooked!

Charlie999 · 12/08/2007 10:41

Cheers TA - when its warm usually DD goes to bed in a vest and I cover her in a sheet and a thin blanket, with another thin blanket if its cold during the night. Does this sound about 1 tog to you?

Good idea about e-bay! Will go off and have a look......

thanks

trendaverter · 12/08/2007 10:56

What you are doing sounds 1 tog-ish!
They are good, especially when you have a LO that likes 'swimming' to the top of the cot

Jamantha · 12/08/2007 10:57

We use a grobag with DD. It's great in that there's less chance of waking her in putting her down after a middle of the night feed because we don't have to cover/swaddle her. It also allows her to put her arms into her preferred sleeping position easily - in a "hands up" position, one either side of her head.

Charlie999 · 12/08/2007 11:28

OK - have snipes set up on a couple of pink girlie grobags - thanks for advice.

My DD does move from one end of the cot to the other! and also sleeps with hands up - they look SO sweet when they sleep like that

Jamantha · 12/08/2007 11:46

Agree about looking sweet with hands up, Charlie. Sweetness is all she's got going for her at the moment though, has been a right pain since about 5am. It's only a few fleeting moments of cuteness that have kept her anywhere near my good books this morning.

Charlie999 · 12/08/2007 11:53

OMG know that feeling! you poor thing!

Mind you - when she smiles at you - it makes it all worthwhile doesn't it? I never knew I could feel like this

Charlie999 · 12/08/2007 11:54

My DD had a whingy day yesterday - GF routines don't give her enough sleep during the day and she gets a right misery-guts!

She can sleep whenever she wants today

foxybrown · 12/08/2007 14:06

another vote for gro-bags here. i bought one of ebay, but it turned out to be nasty polyester or something. check out kiddicare too, they often have offers on.

1 handed typing...

sputnik · 12/08/2007 15:51

Another fan of grobags here. Don't forget you can get a 10% discount through mumsnet. I think there's a sale on atm too.

Been wondering if there's something up with Baby Sputnik, last 2 days he's just wanted to sleep. He's on antibiotics as he got strep from his sister (he's nearly finished the course so that should've gone) but his poo is all green, maybe they're affecting his tummy? When he wakes up he's miserable til he goes to sleep again. Shouldn't complain about a sleeping baby really.

Picture of Chloe for everyone to see...

Charlie999 · 12/08/2007 17:49

Awww Trace - she is gorgeous! What a beautiful picture

daisyandbabybootoo · 12/08/2007 17:52

Aw Trace, she's beautiful . I must update my profile with some pics as I lost them all when my computer crashed a while ago.

I'm home with my nephews and now DH and DS have turned up too. Was hoping to catch up a bit better, but I've not seen DH since last Sunday or DS since Tuesday....so better go and socialise

Had a hectic few days...sorry I didnt make it to Glasgow Tallulah. I always underestimate how time consuming family is. My mum is better thanks, my sis is bringing her on Wednesday when she comes to collect the boys.

Had a near disaster with DD on Friday. My sister was sitting with her in the crook of her arm, when her next door neighbours cat came in the house and tried to jump on her knee. The cat saw the baby and tried to put the brakes on, but didn't in time. I was upstairs at this point and heard the commotion, with sis shouting, DD screaming and the dog barking. DD didn't clam down for abpout half an hour and we thought she'd been scratched but we stripped her off and there was nothing. It wasn't until an hour later that we realised she had a huge gash across the top of her scalp . I think it'll leave a scar so it's a good job it's in her hair and not over her face. I just shudder as it could have been her eyes.

And to think I was worried about my sisters dog who is a 13mo old golden retriever who is very very boisterous. He is now seeing the cat off the premises every time it tries to come in the house, and was so so gentle with DD afterwards.

He helped me change her yesterday.....washed her bits when I wasn't looking . she looked ever so startled

right....will catch up later......phew!
