Oh, Eli, wish I could help. It sounds horrendous for you, and your poor wee one.

Mojo had returned, but has now been shown the door by my incredibly sore back. I don't know what I've done to it, but its agony. Waiting for a physio appointment, but I can feel DH getting annoyed by it all. Ugh.

Am so tempted by the idea of CC. For DD1. She's 5, for heaven's sake, and has never once, in her entire life, slept through the night. It drives me demented. DD2 is making it from about 8:30pm (here in continental Scotland we do it this way ) until 4:30am without a feed. To me this is heaven.

Had a lovely couple of weeks with my parents. I haven't seen them for years, and they just love the whole grandparent thing. I was given the chance to just relax for the first time in years, and it was bliss! Back to normal now. (FGS, I hadn't realised what a difference S&S and maintaining a shiny sink made until I came back after the week away with my parents - DH doesn't do any of that, and boy does it show!)

DD2 now has 2 teeth, still doesn't crawl. She gets everywhere, though, and I'm starting to panic about what she's managed to put in her mouth when I'm not looking. I keep finding newspaper and fliers with soggy edges and bits missing. Bad, bad mother.

Indith · 13/10/2007 20:33

Oh Eli you poor thing you. I suppose all you can do is keep on dosing her and ride it out. Not that that helps at all.....here have some chocolate.

Margo that looks very all singing all dancing. The most high-tech thing we have is a door bouncer. Not that ds really got into it much, he just tips himself onto one side then sits there swinging around looking mildly confused and uncomfortable.

In the news today. I get broadband activeated on Friday. Finally

But the proper news. DS crawled! He went from sitting on the bathroom floor, onto all fours and crawled to the bath. Had the hugest grin on his face, you could almost hear him saying 'look what I can do, I'm so clever'

Elibean · 14/10/2007 15:09

Thanks bp and Indith chocolate helps, and I figure since I don't have nappy rash, I can go for it

dd2 is still rubbish, really. White as a sheet, apart from her bum which is scarlet, totally snotty, and baggy-eyed exhausted.

She did eat a teeny bit of eggy bread at lunchtime, sitting on my lap in front of the TV (BP, if you think eating soggy paper is being a bad mum, come to my house when I'm overwhelmed!) while dd1 - in seventh heaven - ate a sandwich also in front of tv 'cos I feel sick/headachey and can't be bothered to do more than plop myself on sofa.

dh is being good though, he's taking them both out for some air - dd2 well wrapped up and clutching a Huggy Bear biscuit, full of E numbers and strictly for the over-ones (hell, she's eaten nothing since Thursday, she can eat honey sandwiches and ice cream if she likes).

Congrats to Indith's ds on crawling (those delighted, proud grins are sooo sweet) and to BP's dd on getting about in the least stressful way possible: I should learn from that

magnolia74 · 14/10/2007 15:30

Oh Eli, sounds awful still Back to the gp maybe? Is she taking milk ok though?
Ds1 was really poorly a few weeks ago and went about 5 days without eating properly so I just increased the b/f and that seemed enough x

magnolia74 · 14/10/2007 15:31

Yay to Indiths ds crawling Its great when they learn something new, ds1's new thing is openeing the kitchen door whci doesn't always shut properly

castlesintheair · 14/10/2007 16:02

Sorry to hear about baby bean Eli. Is she drinking now or still throwing up? Hope she is feeling better soon.

castlesintheair · 14/10/2007 16:05

DD2 enjoys opening all the cupboards in the kitchen and emptying the contents Yesterday she broke 3 bowls and the day before I caught her hanging out of her highchair opening a drawer and flinging the bread knife across the floor. I was in the room, with my back turned, but still

Elibean · 14/10/2007 18:53

Thanks! I feel a bit reassured. She's drinking about half her usual milk supply, plus some water. Milk went down slightly more easily than last night, I think, but still very little of it. Throwing up has stopped (bar some possetting) and she actually ate about two mouthfulls of mash tonight, plus a mouthfull of brocolli. I have hope for tomorrow

And am glad my baby is not the only one into cupboards already. My mother, right next to dd2, stuck her finger in a crumbly bit of plaster in the wall and said (in a horrified tone of voice) 'oh no, look, she could pull this out and eat it'. Of course, dd, who hadn't noticed until then, is doing nothing but at every given opportunity now...

SachaF · 14/10/2007 19:31

Eli, have you given baby bean some dioarolyte (sp)? That's what my LO was prescribed - and actually what they fed him through the nose tube in hospital when he couldn't keep the milk down.
5 weeks of dioarhea and counting.......fingers crossed it will end soon! He's also waking twice in the night for feeds and taking up to 2 hours to settle again - I'm exhausted! I thought medised was supposed to sedate them? Not here!
We are moving on Sat in to MILs, then hopefully into our own property just before he turns 1 - gosh, nearly 1 already?! (even if there is 2 1/2 months still to go )
I will saunter off back to lurking for a while, and then not even being able to do that after next weekend (sob).

accessorizewithbabysick · 14/10/2007 20:14

Eli, hope the mash & broccoli a sign of things to come, I know it's so worrying when they don't drink/eat. Indiith, yay on the crawling front, can't believe he's a month younger than ds2 and on the move!! DP swore blind that he crawled to him yesterday but he never moves when I look at him. I love the whole peering round corners and so forth to see what ds1's doing or when dinner's arriving! I put him in a tank top today and he looked so grown up sat there with his little leather shoes & cords!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 14/10/2007 21:13

sorry I've been awol. Stressful here as finance problems with the pre-school I'm on the committee for. Need to involve PSLA, Charities commission etc. Much more than I signed up for

Hope to catch up soon.

Elibean · 14/10/2007 21:54

Blimey, FGS, that sounds like hard work - good luck. I know how it is getting into more than one bargained for (am spending tomorrow morning planting school window boxes with 20 4 year olds to help ).

Sacha, five weeks?? Poor you, poor ds! I hope it settles down soon, too. Thanks for the diarolyte tip - no, hadn't thought of that, as she was ok on taking water and the runs had stopped, but if it replaces essential nutrients, it makes total sense. I'll buy some in if not for this time, for next (ever the optimist, me ).

AWBS cords and leather shoes, ahhh..I put a little cord dress and tights on dd the other day (my Mum hit the supermarkets in Paris last time she was there, lovely stuff for so little) and was shocked at how 'old' she looked. A few weeks and my baby will be ONE. One

Calmriver · 14/10/2007 22:11

We won we won we won!!! South Africa are FABULOUS!...Im not expecting anyone to reply to this...

jabberwocky · 14/10/2007 22:29

Indith, congrats on the crawling!

Sacha - could it be loose poo due to teething? Sounds like a long time to have diarrhea

Eli - really, you just may need to move over here near us

Seriously, sending good well wishes to you all.

babypowder · 15/10/2007 11:48

I've just set up my childcare voucher scheme again in preparation for going back to work. Ick. I just know that the next few weeks are going to fly in.

Sacha, your poor dear LO - I didn't realise he was still ill. You must be exhausted.

Jabber, I think we're all going to be on the next flight. What is with the bugs this year?

Calm - huge congratulations. Hope you're still going to speak to us all after next saturday (Obviously, I'm a Canuck living in Scotland, so I have no real allegiance either way)

Elibean · 15/10/2007 13:23

Yes, Jabber, clear the decks: we're moving in

dd1, apparently on the mend from cough and cold, sudden temp of 39 at 1am - took me two hours to get it down and her settled.

dd2, snot from hell so hard night breathing-wise, so when I took dd1 to the GP I asked about how long its ok for a small one not to eat. GP said bring her in, so made an apt for this afternoon.

dd2, with snot running down chin, of course then ate some pasta with meat sauce, veggies, and strawberries for lunch I think she's on the mend

Calm, congrats! TBH, I didnt' know which way to cheer with the Eng v France one - so chickened out and switched channels

babypowder · 15/10/2007 16:57

I have just ordered myself a bread maker, and I'm ludicrously excited about it!

Do any of your LOs perspire (they are too small and cute to sweat!)? Whenever DD2 sleeps, her head is like a leaking tap. Just around her ears, but her gro bag gets soaked. I hope its just a phase ...

jabberwocky · 16/10/2007 00:40

I'm pretty sure ds1 did that, too - perspire that is, about the head.

I'm on a mission to clear out my attic in preparation for our move this summer. Have gone through 5 boxes this week and taken 3 huge bags to the Goodwill.

jabberwocky · 16/10/2007 01:12

eli - glad dd2's appetite is back

bp - we have a bread machine and love it. We had used it once a week for years, but I've been rather lax lately

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 16/10/2007 08:07

DD1 has always sweated quite a lot. DD2 doesnt. Dont worry about it too much.

Elibean · 16/10/2007 09:59

dd1, sweaty head quite easily. dd2, no sweat - except when ill, then sort of clammy all over. I think its pretty normal for all of us, babies included, to have varying degrees of, ahem, glow

Another bread maker enthusiast here - dh got one for a birthday, and makes great bread with very little salt, much better for me (bp) and LOs: I love it. Have yet to try the pizza dough recipe in it, has anyone else?

Much better night here, as dh discovered that facing humidifier full-on to dd's face helped her breathing enormously. Not sure we should repeat, though, as her bedding and carpet are soaked this morning

Elibean · 16/10/2007 10:00

Jabber, where are you moving to? HOw exciting! (And is it huge, enough for all of us to move in too? )

jabberwocky · 16/10/2007 10:18

eli - we are big fans of the humidifier around here, too

re: move - I am getting a bit excited about it - although overwhelmed more than anything, lol. Well, here's the deal. Ds1 scored freakily high on his recent IQ and assessment tests. There is a special school for g/t kids only 45 minutes away so I could still keep my current dr. clients. We have just finished a 6 year renovation on our 1934 bungalow and dh is a bit sad as he has done all of the work himself and we had planned to stay here at least 8 - 10 more years. But it is now obvious that is not an option with the school district we are in. Have dithered over starting a thread in g&T but you know how those always go We were advised to join a support group to help us out as it will be, evidently, a wild ride from now on. Although honestly it has been that way with him for most of his life. Guess they just confirmed what we have thought but it's still taking me some time to process it all.

jabberwocky · 16/10/2007 10:20

PS

We did look at a couple of "McMansions" as the housing bubble has burst and there are tons on the market. Can't imagine living in something like that though

babypowder · 16/10/2007 11:57

Jabber, DHs nephew was also identified as having exceptionally high IQ and intelligence. It certainly isn't an easy ride - the support networks aren't in place, for a start. But he's now 17 and seems perfectly well adjusted to his status. If anything, he's jealous of his twin, who is more 'normal' and very sporty. I get really annoyed at the G&T threads - really, the needs of any exceptional child, at either end of the spectrum, are difficult to meet and should be supported much more than they are.

I'll just clamber down off that there high horse now ...

I'm so pleased that you've managed to find a school that will meet his needs. And, i don't know about Eli, but I quite fancy a Mc Mansion. Our requirements reall should factor into your decision if we're going to be moving in
