New thread for our incessant chatter!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Gloria42 · 11/10/2007 08:49

Indith, you are right - drug of the gods indeed! DS only woke up once and is much happier today (even tho nose still running like a lekay tap)

Congrats on cc, we did something similar with DS and it wasn't nearly as bad as we thot but with great results

Olihan · 11/10/2007 09:11

Thanks everyone, he did it again last night but slept until 6:45 which is even better!

Indith, as soon as you're sure he's better, go for it! I never left him for more than 5 mins and spent a good 2-3 mins in his room, calming him in his cot which made it less stressful for me. I couldn't face the full on 5 mins, shush but don't touch them, leave them for 10 mins malarky of full on CC but it still seems to have the same effect. Maybe I'll set myself up as a sleep guru - ha ha.

Mind you, I feel wrecked today, don't think my body can cope with so much solid sleep!

Gloria, glad you got some Medised, it's just fab - ought to be on every list of essential items for snotty babies.

Margo, hooray for the new house, are you still surrounded by boxes?

FGS, ds1 had boosters a couple of weeks ago and didn't cry either - our brave little soldiers .

Olihan · 11/10/2007 19:30

Well, I'm starting o think my real ds2 has been abducted by aliens . Today he went into his cot awake for his nap and at bedtime and he didn't cry. Not even a whimper. Just lay down and dozed off .

PLUS, he's started eating savoury foods - tues night was roast chicken, pots and veg, last night it was sausage, mash and peas, tonight it was spag bol (all BLW style) and he devoured the lot.

What's going on? It's so weird. This is the baby who has eaten nothing but pudding jars for the last month as he point blank refused to touch anything else (didn't bore you all with that one, the moaning about sleep was enough!), now suddenly he eats whatever is put in front of him? WHERE@S MY REAL BABY?

Actually, on second thought, I'll keep this one .

Where are you all today? You've all gone a bit quiet, at this rate we'll still be on this thread at Christmas!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 11/10/2007 19:37

I'm here!

So glad things are going well Olihan.

DD2 is a good sleeper now which is great. She goes off by herself which makes things so much easier. She'll sleep in her cot or buggy during the day but will never drop off in my arms any more (which I quite liked).

I really feel for 2nd/3rd/4th babies sometimes as DD2 just gets ferried about after DD1. But then I remind myself she sees so many more people than DD1 ever did so she's just getting different life experience - not better or worse.

DD2 kept trying to play with DD1s baby annabel recently. DD1 doesnt do much with it but wasnt impressed anyway. So I bought a £5 doll with sounds from wilkos for DD2. She loves it. Gurgles back at it and pats it on the back to comfort it. DD1 was never very 'mothery' so I'm finding this all very sweet...

Olihan · 11/10/2007 19:52

Aw, FGS, that's so cute with the dolly. DS2 just chews the arms of all dd's dollies!

I know what you mean about subsequent babies but you're right about the different experiences, besides which, they don't know any different. They've never been the centre of attention so they don't miss what they've never had. That's my theory anyway and it salves my conscience!

Indith · 11/10/2007 20:32

Aww FGS that is very cute. I am so putting in a pre-order for a girl next time.

Not that I don't adore my boy of course . He had his first full day in creche today and survived pretty well I think. When I went to pick him up he was lying on a mat listening to the older kids sing songs. We had a good game of catch today too. I'm loving this whole interactive side of growing babies (though I too kind of miss the falling asleep on you phase). I rolled the ball to him, he giggled and scooped it up. I kept asking ofr it back and gently taking it while saying thank you and he starting squirming in anticipation for the next roll. By the end he was attempting to roll it back. Was more of a flail wildly at the ball on the floor but he was getting the idea!

Ok ok your babies have probably been playing catch for ages but I'm just all proud of him!

Actually what games do yours enjoy? I find it quite hard to think of things to play. Or rather I never really realise when he is capable of more.

Gloria42 · 11/10/2007 21:18

Argh! Can my evening get worse??? I am sitting here, working from home cos contacts in US let me down on delivery, waiting for a blinking email which has been promised for hours and listening to DS on the monitor sounding like one of those ventilator machines you see on Casualty cos his wee nose is so blocked. Gave him Medised just before his bottle tonight, but it won't work cos he sicked the whole lot up 10 minutes later. Am counting minutes until 11pm when can give it again.

castlesintheair · 11/10/2007 21:30

Well done Oli Delighted for you!

Gloria can you get one of those plug in things that release menthol vapours? I have them and they are great, especially for babies. You can get them in Boots.

Indith, your story about playing ball with DS (which I hasten to add made me feel like a shocking mother as I never do stuff like that with DD2) reminded me of something. DH came home tonight whilst I was giving DD2 a bath (such a rare occurrence I nearly fainted, again ) and came up stairs talking, DD2 couldn't see him but sat clapping her hands in glee in the bath saying "Da da, Da da"! Aww shucks, 3rd time round and these clever little things they do still amaze me.

magnolia74 · 11/10/2007 21:38

Oh blimey I have lost you all again. Too much to catch up on

Oli, I did read that your cc worked I will try with ds1 soon but I can't bear the crying

I went back to work last week!!! I used to work in a pub before dd4 was born and gave up when pg with her 4.5 yrs ago. The landlord/landlady were fab friends of mine but bought a pub too far away after dd4 was born. Anyway last week they bought another pu up the road and so I am back at work Only Tues nights and Sat afternoons but it's great fun

Ds1 still not sleeping teething, cold and sore nose all makes it harder.

He is cruising round the furniture though and loves to dance to music

I am not even going to attempt to catch up but was wondering if anyone is thinking of having more soon??

Calmriver · 11/10/2007 21:41

Well done Oli, still not there yet!

I am on a mission to improve my sex life!!!! Anyone in on my mission!??? We hardly have sex at the moment, its been like a month...nearly 2!!!!Grr!

Calmriver · 11/10/2007 21:45

Oh...and more of a relevant topic...Ambi still has no teeth!!! HELLO!!!!....we have a birthday next month!!!!

magnolia74 · 11/10/2007 21:46

Calm, I can't join you as we have sex far to often But I was like this a few months back and found If I made a real effort for a few nights the more sex we had the more I wanted it

In fact dh said NO the other night

magnolia74 · 11/10/2007 21:47

Be greatful for now on the teeth front, ds1 is biting everything and evryone

Gloria42 · 11/10/2007 22:36

Calm, I'll join in! Any extra mojo, just pass it my way! Sounds like Magnolia has some to spare !

Olihan · 11/10/2007 22:43

Mag, I was like that too, which is why I refused to do any kind of CC for so long. It took until I was at the end of my tether before I could do it. The layout of my house also means that I can't hear him crying if his door, the playrooom door and the kitchen door are shut so I barricaded myself in the kitchen and busied myself in between visits. It did work incredibly quickly though, I'm not sure I could have coped with screaming at every waking, nap and bedtime for a few days. Could you go out and let your dh try for an evening? Or buy some ear plugs? Desperation swung it for me but if you're not at that point I can see why you can't do it.

Sex, erm, we've done it once since ds2 was born and that was last week . I seem to have got over my freaking out when he touches my boobs now so hopefully things may pick up a bit on that front.

As to having more, you'll have to have words with my dh. I'm not averse to one more but he is adamant that 3 is enough.

No teeth here yet, either Calm but he is only 9mo still, I'm pleased my nipps are not in danger for a while, tbh!

accessorizewithbabysick · 11/10/2007 22:49

Olihan, can't believe the turnaround, that's fab! Long may it continue
Mojo is quite in action in this house, I find just cos we're talking a bit more and dp is helping me out trying to fly the house (he does most of the talking about it and I do the work, but still) I feel more interested when he approaches. And yes, Magnolia, I'm definitely thinking of another but then the next day I'm perfectly happy with 2! Working again sounds really good for you, excellent !
Indith, the rolling ball thing is lurvely, I do it with ds2 as well, sometimes with both boys. He is soooo pleased with himself when he manages to bat it away. Most of ds2's entertainment is ds1 but he also likes trying to catch bubbles, that's a favourite. Also v.keen on drumming, so I'm going shopping this week to buy a proper baby drum for him from elc or somewhere. I do believe that he's said his first word (yes I know ages after the rest of you) daddy on the weekend when grandma said it on the phone. Unfortunately daddy was out of the room at the time and doesn't believe me.
at no teeth, calm!
must go to bed, I'm so full of cold & work has been non-stop stress all week (back 3 days this week). I got so dizzy tues night I couldn't stand up, dp had to take wed off to look after me and the kids, very sweet of him.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 12/10/2007 09:39

we have 2 teeth here. I think she's going to get 4 top ones very close together.

Indith · 12/10/2007 10:45

I'll have another please! Not just yet mind, let me get into the realms of 2 year age gap first. Ask me again in Feb/March time

Don't know what happened last night. After 2 nights of only waking once I was all set for CC to get rid of that waking. The little terror woke at around 11. Cried for 5 mins then went back to sleep as I was about to go in. Woke up and cried for a couple of mins 4 times then woke properly at 1 when I fed him out of desperation. Then he woke again at 3 and cried for 15 mins before waking at 6.30.

Am chalking it up as being unsettled from his first full day at creche.

He keeps waking at 6.30 now it is very annoying. This is the baby who was never awake for the day before 7. Usually 7.30, often 8. Not that I can sleep in during the week anymore with being back at lectures but I miss my sleep ins!

magnolia74 · 12/10/2007 11:33

Ds1 is into ball rolling too it's so sweet

The main thing puting me off cc is that the 4 other children get disturbed. Might tackle it in the half term.

Ds1 has 6 teeth and I think more are on the way. He doesn't bite nips anymore thank goodness but likes to bite feet

jabberwocky · 12/10/2007 13:44

Lot to catch up on today!

First, oli, congrats on the sleeping and thank you for spurring me on to get my thyroid checked! It is incredibly low. Am hoping to pick up my new dose today. Maybe my hair will stop falling out now

Ds2 has gotten into ball rolling recently too. I do love this stage. He's finally getting into books, as far as paying attention a little and not just eating them Dancing is a favorite around our house too.

Teeth, two on bottom and the barest hint of two on top.

FGS, ds1 got all 4 top ones at once so you may well be in for the same.

Sex, well it was going along pretty well until I started feeling so tired all the time. Now as soon as the boys go to sleep I do too. Dh very excited at the prospect of getting his regular wife back...

Gloria, the warm humidifiers with menthol vapors really help a lot. We currently have one in each child's room.

Olihan · 12/10/2007 13:57

Glad you got it checked, Jabber, weird how it goes down randomly, isn;t it? IME the change of dose kicks in pretty fast so you should be back to normal by next week - dh will be pleased .

Well, it appears I spoke too soon. Ds2 was up from midnight until 2:45 for no apparent reason. He was perfectly happy but just didn't want to be in bed. Grrrrrrrrr.

He's another one who likes playing ball but doesn't roll it back, he crawls back to me holding it, hands it to me then chases it when I throw it. I think he was a puppy in a former life .

We're off on holiday tomorrow so I'll see you all next Sunday, have a good week everyone .

castlesintheair · 12/10/2007 16:39

I certainly don't want any more DCs but DH does. I am the only person (female) I have ever heard of in this situation. Guess who will be getting their own way ... for once

Calmriver · 12/10/2007 18:16

I know, I just need to get into La Senza or Anne Summers for some nice undies!!!|Thatll make me feel a bit better!!!
You're soo right though Mags, about the more you get,the more you want! We go through crazy phases!

I just bit into a piece of chocolate and pinched my lip with my nail!...serves me right!!!

Anyway, time for dinner!!!

Having another?....mmmmm Not sure about a 3rd C-Section!,x

MargosBeenPuttingSpellsOnMN · 12/10/2007 20:54

No mojo here just yet - still, early days, eh?

Mag - I'm torn between feeling jealous and terrified!

Has anyone got a jumperoo? Dd2 LOVES hers, she does star jump and could bounce for hours if I let her.

jumperoo

Elibean · 12/10/2007 21:47

O o o am missing you all! dd2 is still (more?) poorly and dd1 and I are coughing and knackered. Don't suppose anyone has any tips on helping a baby with antibiotic induced diarrhoea/vomiting? dd2's temp is down today - maybe the ABs, maybe coincidence (they were given just in case, given her history) - but her bum is very sore, has no appetite, and is throwing up her milk (only way to get meds into her). Sooo tempting to stop the stuff...but know I mustn't...

Have had a very very fast scan and am and and at the talk of more LOs....not me, I can't, but if I were oh, even five years younger, and a lot more energetic..

Mojo keeps tapping me on shoulder and saying 'uh, remember me?' and I keep glancing at it and saying 'oh, yeah, sorry, got to get some Calpol into someone' and brushing it off.

Love the ball rolling stories, love this age!
