New thread for our incessant chatter!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
castlesintheair · 08/10/2007 10:13

Well done Oli It is hard but imo it only takes a few goes to get them used to falling asleep on their own and not waking up all the effing time! I hope you get some sleep now. You are doing the right thing btw.

Lurgies here too. DS off school with possible tonsillitis/ear infection AGAIN. In desperation I am taking him to a homeopath and a cranial osteopath as I am not happy about antibiotics and their effects on him.

I don't think I actually slept at all last night. I feel quite delirious

Olihan · 08/10/2007 19:04

I think he's lulling me into a false sense of security . He went to bed at 6:30, had a whinge as I left but was quiet by the time I got downstairs. This is just going too easily and too well, I think!

Are all the lurgies starting to disappear now? Indith and Castles, how are you tonight?

GodzillasHorriblyHairyBumcheek · 08/10/2007 22:02

Ahhh Oli! If only you'd tried this a few months ago - you (maybe) would have had more sleep! hopefully it's all forwards from now on then - did the same kind of routine with dd months ago, but she likes to keep us on our toes by changing the routine now and again, so we have to think of something else

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/10/2007 22:41

Sorry to hear (once again) of all the sick babies and mummies hope you're better soon. Elibean, hope dd2 is alright after all your concerns as you haven't been on last couple of days. We all have colds here, but not to the scale of the rest of you although I do keep falling over, it's getting v.irritating. DP still sweet about it, although it must be funny watching me go down like a sack of potatoes 2-3 times a day! Castles did you ever figure it out for you? How did the trip to the homeopath et al go? Good for you avoiding ab's.
Oli, it's so hard the first time but I@m sure you're doing the right thing. You know he doesn't actually need anything so it must just be habit. Have you considered a sleep clinic? I found it was much easier to follow someone else's guidelines with ds1. DS2 is getting into some bad habits but they're not bothering us much so I can't face it yet

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/10/2007 22:42

Oh, and condoms here too I can't believe I keep on getting away with it, I surely ought to be pg again by now the amount of times we've not bothered!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 09/10/2007 07:57

Morning Guys.

Colds all round here too.

I'm still heavily bleeding (af) and wondering whether to go to Drs as I've had 3 days off in nearly a month.

Glad sleep is going well Oli.

Olihan · 09/10/2007 08:00

GB, I know, i was SO anti leaving him to cry but it's been so easy and less stressful than the non sleeping was. Hey ho!

Last night was good again, didn't wake until midnight, feed and back to sleep, fussed at 2am but settled 5 mins after I left him then woke at 6:30. I still think he's going to let me have it at some point, it's definitely been too easy so far!

DD on the other hand, was a total nightmare .

castlesintheair · 09/10/2007 10:33

Glad it's still going well Oli. It won't go wrong, okay? DD2 is the only good sleeper in our house at the moment!

AQ, I've got DS on some homeopathic stuff. Not sure it's working as he was crying in the night but seems a lot perkier in himself today and he's eating a bit more. The guy did say it would take 2/3 days to work so we shall see. Bit concerned about all the school he's (so keenly) missing. Re. fainting. I still have my moments and I still have absolutely no idea what it is other than seems worse when I've had a really bad night or am off colour (like most of the time ). Can you see a doctor about yours? It might be something quite simple

castlesintheair · 09/10/2007 10:34

And yes, Elibean, where are you?! Have you gone on holiday?

accessorizewithbabysick · 09/10/2007 13:12

May as well appreciate it whilst you can oli!
Castles, you've sold me on homeopathy I use sepia and pulsatilla a lot now! Must go and see one though. I did go to drs, they ran a few bloods, did some sort of heart test and that was it. Couldn't be bothered to go back again. It's worse before my af but that was days ago (unlike poor fgs!) I've got a cold but I'm not feeling hugely awful just a bit tired but who's not? It's just worrying if I have to drive or I'm carrying ds2 - I had to thrust him at dp the other day as I thought I would drop him!

Elibean · 09/10/2007 16:05

Hello, you lot.

Neither holiday nor sick dd, sadly/thankfully: my only reason for vanishing was going to visit sister for the weekend then being too knackered and cold-ridden to get online and post Thanks for asking though

Gah, these colds. dd1: coughing. dd2: coughing. Me: coughing. DH: dodging the three of us and not coughing. Am reading the homeopathic posts with interest...glad they're helping ds, Castles...

Condoms...we have some of those still lurking around...but tbh, AF has not resumed regularly since dd2, so I suspect I'm past the age of needing them. Which is both and a sort of relief

Elibean · 09/10/2007 16:08

OH! I was sidetracked by the condom talk there, and forgot my big news. dd2 slept through the night, completely through the night, TWICE this weekend. On nights when she'd eaten a ton during the day - no coincidence, I bet, 'cos she's only ever woken up to guzzle milk then go straight back to sleep.

She's dropped another centile, in spite of guzzling, but thats probably because - to quote HV - 'my, she's on the go non-stop, isn't she? Must be burning calories'. Yep, mine too, methinks

jabberwocky · 09/10/2007 16:55

FGS, that does sound like a lot of bleeding. Something similar happened ot me years ago (before babies) and it was a hormonal thing. I had to take hormones for a month and then it was fine.

Ds2 has a runny nose again so we're back in the colds club His cough never totally went away from the first cold, so I'm wondering if it isn't really allergies instead of a virus

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 09/10/2007 17:24

yay for baby bean's sleep.

thanks jabber. i'll give it another week and go to Drs.

Elibean · 09/10/2007 20:28

Thanks, FGS - she just threw up ALL her supper and milk, so hopes not high for tonight

You must be exhausted; my BF had similar bleeding, I seem to remember the only thing that helped in the end was acupuncture - but it was definitely a hormonal thing in her case too, so hope your Dr can help.

Indith · 09/10/2007 21:01

Yay Oli and Eli! Sleeeeeeeeeep! You give me hope! I shall most certainly be doing some CC very soon. Give ds another night to be sure he is properly well but he only woke twice last night and actually ate tonight so fingers crossed.

FGS do get yourself seen, there must be something not quite right there!

FIL has booked a cottage in the lakes again for next year. Another wonderful week of walking. hope it is as good as it was last Easter! Not that we are best pleased with his choice. Instead of consulting (which had he done we would have told him to go for somewhere more expensive and bigger because since we now have an income we could put money in) he just booked somewhere so we shall have a delightful holiday in separate single beds in the same room as ds. Grr. Especially when we are going away with family so I was rather hoping for a few late morning snuggles as ds had breakfast with grandad! That'll teach me to dream of such decedant things

Still if that is the biggest problem around here at the moment we are doing ok!

Elibean · 09/10/2007 22:27

Ah, Indith, some of our best late morning snuggles (definitely pre-LOs, sadly) have been in pushed-together single beds

Glad ds is on the mend, hope food works as well for him/sleep as it does for dd/sleep (nothing to do with cc here, pure calories in her case!).

Gloria42 · 10/10/2007 12:19

The lurgy has struck in my house too . After a couple of days blaming DSs out-of-sorts-ness on teething, he was up all night cos he couldn't breathe through his nose and has a lovely barky cough .
Am knackered. To make things worse I was supposed to be at work today. Started back last week and here I am, off already. Bless my (lady) boss, she told me to take the whole day off!
He's finally sleeping (upright in his pram) and we have an antibiotic from doc (who warned us about bronchiolitis (sp?) if it got worse)
Poor wee man, he's just miserable.

Olihan · 10/10/2007 13:42

Whooooooooo Hoooooooooooooo

HE SLEPT THROUGH, HE ACTUALLY SLEPT THROUGH, 6:30pm to 6am and not a peep in between

OMG, I am so chuffed!

Why didn't I do this weeks ago?!

How was last night Eli? Did the throwing up change things? Hope not!

FGS, have you been to see anyone about AF yet?

Gloria, sorry the lurgy's with you, have you tried Medised? It's fab for unbunging them and helping them sleep.

MargosBeenPuttingSpellsOnMN · 10/10/2007 14:57

I'm off to read the rest of the thread. We're finally in our new house!

Gloria42 · 10/10/2007 15:52

Oli, haven't tried Medised. Been using Calpol & Ibuprofen, is it much different/better?

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 10/10/2007 15:57

well done baby olihan

gloria - medised is good. clears their little noses and has a sedative effect so they sleep better.

DD1 had pre-school booster injections today. She was very brave and didnt even cry. Now has fluffy poodle in pink handbag as a reward

Indith · 10/10/2007 20:33

Yipee!!!!!!!!!

Well done Oli and baby Oli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Medised is the drug of the Gods

Well Ds woke once last night. Tonight I feel some CC coming on should he wake. I want to join Oli on the sleep front

babypowder · 10/10/2007 22:04

Oh heck, I was going to be really good and read the whole thread, but I got so excited about Oli's CC that I completely lost the plot. I will catch up tomorrow!

jabberwocky · 11/10/2007 01:57

Huge congrats, oli!!!!
