Hiya...also checking in...somebody mention the DIYer? He still did the same over the weekend but we've had a couple of days break now and dd would be feeling better if she was not so snotty

Hope your ds is feeling better mag, hope YOU're feeling better, Oli. I am coping better now i can sit in my house without the sound of hammering! It may not last but i'll enjoy it while it does.

Dd started to crawl properly a couple of days ago (she's been commando crawling but not lifting her torso up)!! She is also climbing up everything to try to stand - am having to keep a very close eye on her as she hasn't worked out how to get down

weirdbird · 04/10/2007 22:40

Hello all

We've all been throwing up for britain as DD1 brought a lovely bug home from school.

Quick Q for all those who have there periods back, anyone had really heavy bleeding, I mean worse than after giving birth heavy?

I sorta expected it for the first one after DD2 but this is the 2nd and on top of the D&V bug my body isnt coping, have resorted to my liquid iron from when I was pregnant as have keeled over twice today. Just not sure if its normal or not.

Hope everyone is ok, would love to meet up but the 2 times I cannot do as I run groups are mon & fri mornings, unless you all want to come to my toddler group? Its still pretty quiet as we only started it in July, we get about 10 regulars.

GodzillasBroomstick · 04/10/2007 22:44

No, didn't have that, but i ff, so AF came back a while ago. Have had extreme PAIN with them that wasn't so bad before though.

jabberwocky · 05/10/2007 02:56

Goodness, so sorry to hear about all the sickness.Sounds perfectly dreadful at your house, wb

I keep forgetting to ask, is anyone else still losing hair? I think I was later getting started but it's been going on for a few months and is everywhere - ick!

ps32 · 05/10/2007 03:10

hi jab u still up

Gloria42 · 05/10/2007 13:36

WB, AF has been terrible for me since DS was born. Took 6 months to come back but every months it gets heavier. 1st day i can only last an hour with the biggest tampons i can find!!

GodzillasBroomstick · 05/10/2007 14:51

I am still losing hair - but i think it may be the warm weather we had - i always moult in the summer

Indith · 05/10/2007 19:21

My AF has been better than pre-ds. But then I was considering getting checked out for endometriosis (runs in my family and I was showing symptoms) and pregnancy is very good at shrinking it.

Ds can lurch forwards a bit but no more than that. He is, however, scarily good at walking while holding my hands although he shows no interest in pulling himself up (but I know he is capable as has done it a couple of times). This does mean that I still have stuff everywhere and leave jewellery areound on the coffee table an so on. Really should stop doing that before he starts to get about more.

Did I say last time that ds was sleeping better? I lied. Or at least it didn't last long and we are back to 1.5hr/2hr wakings. That said ds threw up Wed night. First time he has properly been sick with proper vomit smell rather that just milk and today has done more poos that I though humanly possible and had some rather squitty nappies so it seems he now has a tummy bug.

I have to start getting up earlier from Monday, no more taking advantage of ds' wonderful habit of sleeping in til 8 after a bad night. Lectures start and we will have to leave the house by 8/8.15 to get to creche.

Stupid idea if you ask me, sod the degree I want to be a SAHM til they all go to school then start a kids cooking party business.

weirdbird · 05/10/2007 19:41

Awwwww Indith, get your degree then the world is your oyster! Do you have long left to go?

Well I went to the GP and it is apparently my coils (old fashioned copper one) fault, it is very likely to increase blood loss apparently. But as it hasn't shown any other side effects I am going to stick with it for a while and see how I go... While investing in some maxi maxi maxi flow products. But I did expereince a reaction to my liquid iron, I came up in brown spots so I have to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. A woman's life is never dull...

Godzilla - I have always had extreme pain since mine started at 13, which is probably how I have managed to sleep through all of Stage 1 of both my labours and stage 2 with Hannah, If we have number 3 I am expecting to wake up having slept through it all

Ta for the thoughts, everyone. Nights no better but have reached resignation with it so less miserable about it now. I'm starting to think about CC but I honestly don't know if it will work on ds2 and have a (not unreasonable or unfounded) fear that it will make it worse and I will end up with a baby who will not even go in his cot, never mind sleep. I just don't think it's a risk I'm willing to take.

WB, my period became very heavy with a copper coil, especially the first couple of days each time but it didn't improve at all over the 9 months I had it in so it might be worth rethinking your contraception if it's affecting you that severely. It sounds terrible, you poor thing.

Indith, 'they all'? Is there something you want to tell us? Sympathy over the sleeping, it's pants, isn't it?

jabberwocky · 06/10/2007 01:17

I had thought about a traditional coil and my doctor shuddered at the thought, saying I would have heavier periods than I could ever imagine

We're still using condoms

castlesintheair · 06/10/2007 09:07

WB, my mum got seriously anaemic from using the traditional coil. Not wishing to scare you but she ended up in hospital on steroids with some life threatening illness. It's why I'm so anti the coil (and any other form of contraception to be honest). I'm in favour of abstinence, russian roulette or condoms if I'm desperate

My periods are hideous at the moment. Really heavy, passing clots (sorry if tmi) and I quaff spatone during them to keep me from passing out. Must make an appointment to see GP. I've always had bad pain too, which is why I probably didn't feel a thing when I was having contractions every 2 minutes with DD2!

Jabber I think my hair has stopped shedding now, though my cleaner might not agree.

Olihan (and Indith) sorry about the night wakings. Re CC, DD2 refused to sleep in her cot recently - just stood up and yelled - so I did CC during the day - only had to do it twice & much easier in daytime - and thankfully it worked and she's ok now. Is it worth having a shot during the day or do your babies sleep well then? I would hate to do it at night, so you have my sympathy. Sleep vibes coming your way ...

Olihan · 06/10/2007 12:49

Ds2 is great at sleeping during the day, he'll go 2-3 hours in the morning then another 1/2 to 1 hour in the afternoon, it's just the nights, unfortunately.

Jabber, I meant to ask if youve had your thyroid levels checked recently, as your hair can fall out if it's too low. I think you have thyroid problems like me, don't you? I've just had to up my dose again as it was getting a bit low.

Indith · 06/10/2007 15:08

I wouldn't say no to a few more Oli

Ds is also great during the day. We are waiting for a weekend where ds is not ill to do CC. A friend just did it on her dd and it took 3 nights, the longest she cried for was 25mins in total so thinking it is worth a shot.

To vent a little....

Babies should NOT get diarrhoea! It is so very wrong! Found him in his cot at 5am today covered in the stuff, come out of his nappy all over the place, soaked through his grobag and onto his sheets. And how on earth does he make it smell so bad? The child is on milk with the odd rice cake til he gets better!

jabberwocky · 06/10/2007 16:37

euwwww, Indith!

Oli, you're absolutely right. I'm due to get checked and really need to get that taken care of next week. I've been thinking that maybe I do need a higher dose as I'm sooo tired lately.

Indith · 06/10/2007 20:08

Oh joy Dp appears to have the tummy bug. At least he has been sick all over the sofa and living room floor. Rather similar to how Ds started on wednesday.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 06/10/2007 20:52

Hi Guys,

I've been having broadband problems so havent been around. Hope you're all ok. Will go back and read thread in a bit.

Anyone here having nutty periods? I just had one for 3 weeks. Then had 2 days of no blood, a couple of days spotting and then 3 more days of no blood and now it seems I'm on a new period. So technically a month after last one but only a few days in the whole month not bleeding?

Before babies I've had long (10 days or so) & heavy (superplus) but irregular (6-10 weeks) periods but this has thrown me a bit.

I'm still breastfeeding 2-3 feeds a day. DH thinks if I cut the feeds out then my hormones will balance out.

Any ideas? I bought a mooncup so it's getting some use. Quite pleased with it actually.

Anyway, Baby update. Babyglass is walkign with her walker now. Giggling at my every time she is naughty and then clapping herself and waving at anyone who smiles at her.

weirdbird · 06/10/2007 21:45

Indith you have my sympathies, that was me for most of this week!

Castles - Thanks for the warning now I know what is causing it I can keep an eye on it, but I thnink it only made me ill cause I had just had 3 days of full on D&V (sorry TMI!) and lost over a stone in that time, so had zero reserve to cope with blood loss on top.

Am not overly worried as I bled for almost 4 years non stop and didnt become anemic before, but this is my very last option for contraception so don't want to give up on it too quickly

Heeeeey....Jabberwocky....High five

Are we the only women in the modern world to still have to use condoms????

FGS...clapping already, properly? Dd has only just rediscovered her hands and is trying that out...she saw some kids on a cbeebies programme (can't remember which, she hardly watches tv - not interested ) dancing and clapping, and decided to join in! Telly is great!

jabberwocky · 07/10/2007 03:26

Alright, GB! So at least there's two of us around still using them, lol.

Ds2 is doing this kind of Heil Hitler sort of wave. DS1 did the same

Indith · 07/10/2007 19:54

Condoms here too. My sister was trying ot persuade me to have a mirena put back in but I just cannot be arsed.

I joined in the tummy bug fun too! So much fun! So that is ds still miserable and horrible unless he is walking in his push chair or being carried around the house. Having trouble persuading him to eat or feed or drink enough water to keep nappies nice and wet. I think he is at that stage now where you need to eat to feel better but just don't want to. Dp and I just feel miserable and sick and weak, which of course ds doesn't like because we can't carry him for long without sitting down.

What larks

Olihan · 07/10/2007 22:29

Oh poor you and dp and ds, Indith. Not much fun. Hope you're all better soon.

Well, having been sure yesterday that cc was not for me or ds2, he had the worst night ever last night, including being awake from 11:30pm until 2:30am during which time I came closer to actually hurting him than I ever want to again . I just couldn't cope with it. So tonight when he started messing at bedtime I put him in his cot and walked out, gave him a couple of minutes, went in and gave him a cuddle in his cot, and did that every 3-5 mins until he fell asleep. It only took him half an hour to drop off so it wasn't too traumatic but I still feel awful. I've decided I'll feed him once after midnight as going from 3-4 night feeds to none seems a bit cruel, but other than that he gets a cuddle and stroke and that's it. Please tell me I'm doing the right thing and I'm not going to do him any harm .

jabberwocky · 08/10/2007 01:14

Aughhh! just typed a long post and lost it all!

Okay, so Oli, yes, you are doing the right thing. Ds2 needs to fuss a bit before he goes down also, but then sleeps like a dream.

Indith - so sorry to hear the tummy bug is still at your house

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 08/10/2007 07:53

oli - you are doing the right thing (imo)

DD1 always used to cry and fuss for about 5 minutes before dropping off. When we realised that then she got to sleep much better. By going in to her we had been affecting her 'routine' to get to sleep. When we left her to it she went to sleep well.

DD2 goes off like a dream but she has been waking for middle of the night feeds. I weighed her the other day and she is 16lb 15oz so on the 2nd centile. She eats like a horse though! Anyway, we've been getting tough during the night and trying to settle her rather than assuming she needs milk. 3 nights on and she didnt wake last night so I think it was habit.

Olihan · 08/10/2007 09:36

Well, he took half an hour to settle at bedtime, woke at 10:30 so I gave him a kiss and he cried for about a minute then went back to sleep, fed him at 1:30, he went straight back to sleep, I heard him at 4:30 but didn't need to go up then it was 7am! . I've just put him down for a nap and put him in his cot awake after a cuddle and he'd stopped crying by the time I got downstairs. He's never fallen asleep without being cuddled or patted before so we seem to have made a lot of progress already. Hopefully this is the start of both of us getting more sleep.
