New thread for our incessant chatter!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SachaF · 26/09/2007 16:45

Oh, only just worked out what 2WW can stand for

castlesintheair · 26/09/2007 16:56

Wow, so much to catch up on, I've only really skimmed. I'm in a mad rush again. I certainly believe I don't need to join a gym!

Glad DS is on the mend Sacha. Hope all the other bugs etc are improving. DD2 just got over a 10 day cold and is straight onto her next one. C'est la vie, at this stage.

Calm, I can't do Thursdays either at the moment for our meet-up. Monday or Friday mornings are best for me

Eli, DD1/2 will be bilingual as long as you continue to speak French at home. All of my friends children (whatever nationality/language) who are in English schools have kept it up.

Talking French, DS (with reputed language difficulties) has started coming home chatting in French !!

DD2 is saying "mama" and lots of other ramblings. She is also still a keen singer, particularly in the early hours ...

FunkyGlassSlipper · 26/09/2007 18:36

BP - so sorry about your cat. We had to put our cat down last year and I was upset for a long time. DD1 still talks abot her. We got a kitten when I was pregnant so have companionship again now he is about 18 months old.

Elibean · 26/09/2007 20:07

BP sorry to hear about your cat. Its a special sort of loss, that...and IME a very sad one. xxx

babypowder · 26/09/2007 22:07

Thanks everyone. I'd be lost without you lot!

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 26/09/2007 23:02

so sorry BP, cats seem to have their own agenda i.e. they own you not the other way around and they come and go as they please! But they leave such a void when they're gone.

babypowder · 27/09/2007 17:57

Don't tell me I've killed the thread

Had a lovely day today shopping with a friend. we were really 'ladies who lunch', for one day only, and it was the most marvellous fun. Wish I'd bought something for myself, tho

FunkyGlassSlipper · 27/09/2007 19:42

sounds lovely bp.

DD1 has been wetting herself today which is unusual and unexplained so a bit stressful really.

Dd2 an angel. I am sure she said 'air' tonight for 'yeah' when i asked her if she wanted books, and was she ready for bed etc. Too cute

Indith · 27/09/2007 20:04

Hello!

Poor you BP. I would love a cat, miss my Oscar. Must convert DP to cats.

Sure your DCs will be fine with French Eli. My sister and I managed pretty well living in England, English school and only one parents speaking French to us. We both grew up bilingual. I am rubbish at speaking French to ds though. As soon as I got to France I did and he didn't hear a word of English while we were there but now we are home English is back. Bad mother that I am.

My Mamie made us see her Dr while we were there who declared we both had bronchitis and gave us lots of random homeopathic things in that way only French Drs do. Think we are improving!

Was PMSL today at BBC Breakfast when they did a section on Asda fining people for parking in P&T or Disabled spaces without good reason. Lots of people were sending in messages that could def have passed for a thread on here. I could just imagine legions of MNers having their breakfasts and sending in outraged messages.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 27/09/2007 23:30

Indith - I was thinking along the same lines as you re. ASDA and parking.

I even looked in the cupboards for some butterkist!

GodzillasBumcheek · 28/09/2007 12:09

Poor you BP. I even get upset when our pet gerbils die, so i can imagine it's worse with a larger pet. Getting nostalgic remembering my cat from my childhood now. Good memories though.

GodzillasBumcheek · 28/09/2007 12:11

Does anyone know how you would tell if a baby has sleep deprivation? And can this occurr through lack of daytime sleep?

Elibean · 28/09/2007 14:06

Godzilla, think babies can get sort of hyper and stressed if not sleeping enough?? Whats up, is your LO off naps? I know that parents can suffer from sleep deprivation, thats for sure

FGS, hope your dd1 is ok - and wonder if your dd2 would like to instruct mine in the art of saying/nodding/behaving 'yeah' to any request to go bed-wards. My adorable baby has turned into a strong-minded, sleeping-bag resisting, nappy-wrestling pre-todder Still adorable, though

Thanks, Indith, reassuring to hear...I also went to English schools and only had one French parent, but my Dad spoke fluent French, and my mother spoke far better French than I do to the dds. I'm glad you're on the mend, I smiled re the homeopaths and Mamie's wisdom - sounds very familiar!

Elibean · 28/09/2007 14:09

bp, I hate that feeling of going shopping and coming back empty handed - like being hte only kid not to get a prize at a birthday party...how about a quick bit of internet shopping to remedy situation?

Am posting in bits, sorry - distracted.

Off to hospital for dd2's floppy larynx review: am going to grill the very uncommunicative consultant about the likelihood of nasty bugs landing her in hospital again this winter. Am hoping he will laugh and pat me on the back.

accessorizewithbabysick · 28/09/2007 20:03

Well, I have no chance at catching up you're all talking so much! I only seem to have time at the weekends which is when it's quiet!

Had recorded that baby programme, if it's going to make my blood boil, I shan't bother.

Eli, did I respond about your counselling about dd2? Not sure I did. I think delaying the christening a v.good idea for you. Hope you had good news at ENT today

I feel so durrish next to bilingual talk, I've been teaching ds1 how to count in a couple of languages as that's all I can do (Indonesian, of all things). He's not that 'bovvered' though. I have a threenager this week (Margo look away!).

Hope all babies, and mummies have a good weekend and are NOT poorly

GodzillasBumcheek · 28/09/2007 21:41

She isn't resisting her naps exactly - our neighbour is doing alot of DIY and she can't sleep through it.

We have been going out every afternoon to allow her some sleep in her buggy, but she only manages half an hour while we are out, usually. She then gets tired again at around 3.45-4.00, but although we've asked him to stop by 4 he usually goes on until nearly half past. Then if we let her sleep you know what happens - she is late for her evening meal, and doesn't want to sleep at bedtime

She is red around the eyes alot of the day (she gets that when she's tired), and is very whingey for no reason. And she's finished teething for now, she's got 4!

Elibean · 28/09/2007 22:17

Godzilla, poor dd Does she have a morning nap? Would she nap longer in the morning to make up for it, maybe? Only asking because dd sometimes makes her morning nap the long one, it varies. Red eyes and whingey sounds like tiredness to me, you must be off with your neighbour.

Hey, AQ, thanks - not exactly a christening (just a party, really ) but yes, it does feel good to wait. ENT were nice, but unfortunately its going to be another 3-6 months before her larynx hardens up. So another winter of possible hospitalization if/when RSV or croup strike - but less chance of her getting overwhelmed by it,a nd more chance of us recognizing the signs and rushing her to A&E early if she does. Good as possible, really.

As for languages - Indonesian? That is COOL

Elibean · 28/09/2007 22:30

ps re Threenagers. Had a very hard time not laughing at breakfast this morning:

dd1: Mummy, did you know, 'bloody hell' is a very rude word. We mustn't say it in restaurants.

Me: staring hard at dh 'yes it is a rude word, sometimes grown ups say it when they're angry but they shouldn't'

accessorizewithbabysick · 28/09/2007 22:39

Godzilla, sounds v.frustrating for you & poor dd. FWIW, if I can get a decent morning nap (an hour+) out of ds2 doesn't seem to make as much difference if the afternoon is interrupted. Do you drive? I sometimes drive round to get him to sleep (I did this a LOT with ds1 early on) and then park outside my house until he finishes it. Always seems to sleep better in the car than the buggy. Is there anywhere else you could take her for her nap, a friend with a cot/relative? DS2 used to get like that when he was smaller as his wind was so bad, his eyes were totally redrimmed. Will the weekend be better for diy?

Well, Eli, I can only hope that you get a better winter than the last one and she doesn't end up in A&E. I simply can't imagine having to deal with that, I realise how lucky I am with my 2 everytime I come on here as they've been ill so little.
Lots of Aussies learn indonesian or japanese rather than the european languages (although I did do french for 6 years, not so's you'd know it) cos of the business links I suppose. So they can go to Bali and buy t-shirts too! It's not much use in Yorkshire though

GodzillasBumcheek · 28/09/2007 22:46

Eli...lol at 'very rude in restaurants'

Accessorize...no, there is nowhere to go, i don't drive, and he doesn't differenciate between weekdays and weekends. And she can't stay asleep longer in the mornings - we've tried that! There's nothing i can do but put up and shut up it seems.

jabberwocky · 29/09/2007 02:17

Sorry I'm AWOL a bit this week. I picked up an extra few days of work to make up for our week off in October.

eli, sorry to hear you've got another 3 - 6 months of larynx worry. Maybe it'll be a mild winter.

off to catch up a bit more onthe thread now.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 29/09/2007 09:05

eli - fingers crossed for a hgood winter.

godzilla - would she sleep in your arms?

GodzillasBumcheek · 29/09/2007 18:04

FGS...she only very occasionally sleeps in anyone's arms (she is fiercely independent and doesn't like to feel restrained!). But in any case, the banging is quite loud everywhere in the house...except the kitchen and bathroom!
I'm pretty certain there isn't a solution to the problem.

Calmriver · 29/09/2007 18:38

Just checking in.....have loads of coursework on, will try my best this week...will plan the meet up thing too...perhaps in Barnes?x

babypowder · 30/09/2007 13:14

I'm just popping in, too. Enjoying having my mum and dad around to help out
