Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Gloria42 · 25/09/2007 14:36

Hello! I had a LOVELY weekend, was a bit strange with no DS but great to have some time with DP.
DS was an absolute angel for his GPs and they have offered to take him again whenever we want!! (How about next week we said!) And to top it all off we came home to another 2 (yes, 2) teeth!! That makes 6 in total, 3 on top and 3 on bottom.

babypowder · 25/09/2007 16:31

Gloria, I'm so glad you had a fantastic time. And very too!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 18:27

Glad you had a good time Gloria.

Dd2 now cruising everywhere. Covered in bruises and DH convinced she stood independently for a couple of seconds earlier.

Olihan · 25/09/2007 19:12

Hello girls, have been AWOL or a few days due to horrific sleeping by ds2 (too awful to even start to describe on here!) combined with viruses for ds1 and dd resulting in broken nights for them too. It's just been one of those weeks but we seem to have turned a corner, fingers crossed.

Although, having said that, ds2 had a real teething poo and suspiciously red cheeks before he went to bed....................

Can't believe how many poorly babes there are, I thought we'd get a longer spell before the winter sniffles set in. Hope they're all on the mend now.

Gloria, very of your weekend, I had a couple of those pre ds2 and I'd love another. Not going to happen until I stop bfing ds2 though, and considering he still has 5-7 feeds a day, it's going to be a while .

Ds2 is crawling at supersonic speeds (on one knee and one foot ), cruising and standing unsupported. No steps yet but he's still only 8 months so I don't mind - having all 3 dcs going in different directions isn't my idea of fun .

Eli, we've booked a holiday to the South of France in the middle of Oct. Villa with a heated pool, flying over and hiring a car (eek!) so hopefully we'll get some sun. I can't wait to get away now.

Margo, my ds1 has been a harder 3yo than a 2yo!

Mags, hope the 2ww goes quickly.

Right, better go and tidy the kitchen before I get sucked in on here .

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 20:00

I just got so confused with reference to mag's 2ww then realised it was for test results.

margo - 3 is a really lovely age. They gain so much independence. The trend across most of my friends seems to be that if they were good at 2 then they are a pain at 3 but if they had terrible 2s then they'll be good at 3. Not always true but they have to assert themselves at some point!

Elibean · 25/09/2007 20:24

Hi Oli [waving] sorry its been so rough (sounds awful) and glad the corner is turned. The holiday sounds wonderful and having had a similar one recently, though in cooler place, can thoroughly recommend indoor heated pool. Bliss.

Calm, I can't get to Kingston and back in time on Thursday - or most days, frustratingly, as dd1 is at pre-school till noon only. Unless you mean Starbuck's in Barnes, that is Once dd1 is more settled, I plan to stick her in lunchclub twice a week, so that'll give me until 2.30...hopefully soon...

Good for you, Gloria, glad it was fun - and , of course!

Another one briefly confused by Magnolia's 2WW...but then again, am confused by much of life these days, thanks to sleep deprivation. Since catching the Cold from Hell dd2 (who is snotty again, please let it be the same one and not a new one ) is back to two feeds per night, lots of farting wake-up-and-yell moments, and general unsettledness. Ick.

Has anyone else noticed their smallest LO's babbling change a bit recently? I swear dd2 is trying to imitate words, and express herself in speech-like rhythms/sounds. Suspect she'll be like her sister - late-ish walker, fast talker

SachaF · 25/09/2007 20:28

Hi all,
Also been AWOL for a while. DS kept getting better and then worse again, took him to the HV where his weight had plummeted from the 25th percentile to below the .4th percentile, took him to the GP for a 3rd visit (with a friend as back up), he said to just wait a bit more as it seemed ds was on the mend, if he threw up again to come to the OOH surgery as he was on tonight, my face looked crestfallen, so he referred me to paeds at the hospital, where we spent two nights trying to get ds rehydrated with a tube in his nose - he looked so poorly with that tube but I knew he wasn't that bad IYKWIM. So obviously he was quite ill as they did decide to keep him in a 2nd night when I thought we were getting discharged. Then I caught a bought of something (food poisoning?) whilst in hospital and dh caught something too!
So we had a nice Monday as a family before dh had to drive off to work at 6 today, when ds promptly threw up on me and my bed!! After 36 hours of no throwing up! And again at 10!
So I will be on occasionally in between the piles of washing and other housework when ds sleeps - ds funnily enough is very clingy atm.

SachaF · 25/09/2007 20:30

Oh yes, and a council health inspector visited today - ds has an uncommon tummy bug! Eventually the doc called to tell me but it was funny finding out from the council!

LowFat · 25/09/2007 20:33

Hello Ladies,

Hows things? Sorry I have been neglecting the thread. Everytime I come on and check the 'Last 15 minutes' no one is here so I loiter on other threads instead - shameful I know.

Another one here fore forgetting to brush teeth Probably manage it every 2 days.

Eli - how's your LO's floppy larynx? Can I ask does she get hiccups easily when laughing and then throw-up? DS does it all the time, and DD likes to make him laugh, which is a lovely sound, but I am always nagging - "dot make him laugh he'll be sick"

He has got a nice muma and a Bob stranglye enough - probably from Butlins, which by the way was fab.

DH GD still in hospital, now with MRSA to boot Not sure how things can get better for him, but crossing everything in the hope thata miracle will happen!

Anyway nice to read about you all and speak to you soon hopefully

LF
xx

DS is still fairly imobile - Hurrah but has a wicked temper from his frustration because of this. He can get from lying to sitting and likes to stand, but no crawling.

SachaF · 25/09/2007 20:40

Low Fat, crossing fingers here for your dh's gd, I hope they are doing all they can to fight off the MRSA, I know how horrible that one is. Hugs.

Tooth wise, I have a plastic brush that ds and I play with at bathtime and he enjoys it, so hoefully he is getting in the habit.

Right, must go tidy up kitchen, but it is so nice to be on here.

Elibean · 25/09/2007 20:40

Sacha, that sounds rough! So glad all better now (more or less); wonder why the council called? Was it a health and safety issue somewhere, or environmental (eg restaurant/pool/softplay etc)? Anyway, good that you're home safe and wish you luck with the laundry

LFM, we're going to the hospital outpatient apt with ENT on Friday for the larynx...she still squeaks at times (and snores a lot) when sleeping after a feed, but mostly much less noisy. She does get hiccups easily, yes, but doesn't throw up too much these days - maybe the meds, or being more upright? Sorry to hear your GFIL is so unwell....FWIW, dh's uncle had MRSA in hospital and got over it very well. In spite of being very sick with prostate cancer at the time. Hope things improve for your GFIL..

Elibean · 25/09/2007 20:43

Speaking of teeth - not baby issue, but: dd1 has had toothache at back of mouth recently, just behind last molar. She wouldn't let me brush near it for days, so I called dentist who said probably adult molar growing ( she still has all her baby teeth, only 3.8!) and to leave that area alone until she felt happier.

Which actually makes me feel better about leaving dd2's mini-teeth alone until her mouth is less sore too

SachaF · 25/09/2007 20:49

Environmental - Having found out more about the disease I reckon pool but of course it's difficult to tell if there's not been an outbreak.
Think I'm gonna sleep in a sleeping bag tonight as it rained when I had my linen on the line [giving up but still smiling emoticon]

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 21:09

Sacha - poor you!

Eli - My Dd is chatting much more. She has started saying Dada which DH is very happy about. She also seems to say "agay" if she wants more of something so we're repeating 'again' just in case that is what she means. DD1 didnt babble much at all so it's nice.

Olihan · 25/09/2007 21:50

Eli, yes! Ds2's babbling is definitely more speech like these days, he says Mamamam all the time and really wails Maaaaammmmaaaaaa when he's crying! He 'chats' to himself constantly, although with ds1 and dd about, he has a job to get a word in edgeways .

Ds1 was a very early talker but didn't walk until 13mo, dd walked at 10mo but didn't talk (other than 5 words) until 21mo so we'll have to see which way ds2 goes, although dh has money on both , please, no! My last grip on sanity would surely give up .

LOL at everyone misinterpreting Mags' 2ww, I am quite surprised we haven't had any pgs so far on here, surely someone is going to have another? Mind you, I saw some pics of Dh's colleagues' 2 week old twins earlier and my ovaries did start twanging wildly...............

Elibean · 25/09/2007 22:09

Sleeping bags...for some reason, the thought makes me feel nostalgic. Perhaps I need to go camping

I've escaped to MN because I made the mistake of watching the baby programme on C4 for a few minutes. Shaking, furious, and tearful: thank goodness I didnt' see it when I was still truly hormonal

Love the babbling babies talk, thats cheered me up (esp 'agay'!) And come to think of it, dd holds arms out and bounces and says 'a-ba, a-ba' to be picked up ('a bras' 'a bras' cos I speak French to her). So much for babies not wanting cuddles

Sorry, thought I'd finished venting on other thread...

Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:20

Eli, I had to turn it off, I felt sick just listening to her describing her 'philosophy'. Those poor people, that poor baby .

Is dd1 bilingual then, if you speak to them in French, or do you just use odd words? (Odd meaning occasional, not weird )

GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:26

Hello...making a reappearance thanks to Oli noticing me!
Ok...quick update...Maia now babbling quite nicely. She seems to have decided that she will say mamamama when she is tired, but not many other times - but says dadada quite freely (we are both at home). Hmph. She doesn't seem to want to hold her bottle, and is rubbish with a beaker. But over about 3 weeks she has sprouted four teeth! How?

So how's everyone? Need to actually keep posting now so this thread stays on my 'threads i'm on' list!

GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:27

Oh, hello Olihan

Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:47

Hello!

jabberwocky · 26/09/2007 01:26

Gloria - the weekend sounds sooo lovely. Very envious.

sacha - what an ordeal! Can't believe they almost sent him home when he was obviously dehydrated Good for you for giving him the disappointed mama look and getting him to do the right thing and refer.

DS2 still a bit snotty but cough seems better. The neverending cold it seems...

I finally managed to put one item on ebay and am hoping it opens the floodgate of clearing out things If we're moving in the summer I've got quite a bit of work to do.

eli - so of your bilingual dd's. Ds2 has started saying mama but that's it. I so wish I could speak another language.

Lowfat - nice to hear from you. I've been wondering where you were. I don't venture out into the rest of MN very often anymore.

HAs anyone heard from Mardy and little Hester?

Elibean · 26/09/2007 08:45

Hi Jabber, have also been thinking about Mardy and Hester...hoping no news is good news.

Godzilla, hello, and if its any consolation, dd1 said dadada for ages and no mamama until about 14 months old But then she never stopped saying it, and wouldn't let Daddy carry her for the next six months, and I wished for dadada again

Oli, yes, dd1 is bilingual (including odd words ) but since starting pre-school, tends to answer in English all the time. I'm persevering, and dh has promised to up his French, but as she's not going to French school I suspect she'll understand fluently but forget how to speak

babypowder · 26/09/2007 10:10

When I started school, my mum thought it would be an excellent idea to put me, an English speaker in an English speaking family, into the the local French Immersion school. (The town I grew up in was 50% French/50% Ukranian. I think there were only 3 English speaking families - us, an Indian family and a Jamaican family!) Talk about being thrown in at the deep end! We were only allowed to speak English in the ESL class.

The trouble is now, of course, that my comprehension is fine, but my spoken French is utter rubbish. I probably speak better Spanish than French

babypowder · 26/09/2007 15:13

I've just had to have my old cat put down. Very .

SachaF · 26/09/2007 16:29

Oh BP, you poor thing.
28 hours and no vomitting - yay!
So how do I get ds to drink water again? ATM am strapping him in high chair, holding hands down and forcing syringe in to his mouth, and I only get about 1ml in this way! Think now he is not vomitting (fingers crossed) I will give up for a while and wait for him to natually want water.
'tis strange doing purees, I never did them for weaning first time round, but any gagging is making him throw up again. He has had toast, but won't touch steamed apple slices which he used to love! Need to buy more weaning spoons.
Had my best night for a while in the sleeping bag!

Hmm, I was thinking when ds is older I might watch some french kiddies dvds. But really I would need to watch them as well as my French is rubbish! Don't know whether it is worth it or whether it would just confuse him (may have been bought in a bit by the BBC Mutsy advertising). Both dh and I are maths people not languagey people so might be nice to expose ds whilst young. Indith, you had been considering chatting to ds in both languages, do you?

Ah, last night's TV, I found it interesting and will continue to watch and try not to get emotional at all...... - think it will influence me with dc2 though (no news yet!) - I'm quite interested in the continuum concept and want to find out more (obviously, steal the bits you like and leave the bits you don't!)
