It's still early days, bp. Maybe she'll go straight to walking In the meantime, enjoy it!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 16:52

Check my profile for pic of DD1 in her new glasses

babypowder · 04/09/2007 16:59

tell her from me she looks just gorgeous!

Elibean · 04/09/2007 17:04

Ah, FGS, she's a poppet

I'm glad the LOs are a bit better today, but hope they're a lot better tomorrow! Can't believe how many nasty viruses seem to be thriving through the summer this year - I thought most vanished around April and resumed around end of October, but nooo. A friend's LO just spent a few days in hospital with pneumonia following a bad cold/cough while his sister had endless UTIs after hers: do I really want to be back in London?!?

Have just been shopping today with both dds, one at a time (dh not back at work yet, yippee) and got SO much done. Autumn clothes make me a little though...

Selfishly, am relieved not to be the only one who can't get a 'holiday' these days - thought perhaps I was missing some sort of supermum gene On the other hand, if not self-catering, how on earth would I have coped with mounds of washing?? As it was, machine packed up during last week and am still ploughing through results!

Also relieved not to be the only lax babyproofer on here Rubber bands sound good, Jabber, but suspect dd2 would be wildly attracted to those - she's not pulling up or crawling yet, but 10/10 for fine motor skills: can insert her fingers into tiny cracks and PULL with deadly accuracy. And strength. Quite scary when she's near nostrils, ears and mouths

Elibean · 04/09/2007 17:05

WB, I'm glad you did get a holiday - suspect you're right, good relatives are the only way to do that!

magnolia1 · 04/09/2007 18:57

Awwww Fgs, she looks gorgeous
Bp, ds1 is pretty stationary, he does get from a to b but no crawling or pulling up. He just seems to get there Like now he is under the computer chair but didn't crawl, roll, shuffle or anything

Indith · 04/09/2007 19:57

Oh dear sorry for all the poorly babies out there. Hope normality returns soon.

Oli if only there were rules to sleeping! We are still not back to the wonderful semi-reliable sleeping through we had before this last house move. I hope you manage to crack it.

Ds is still not mobile really but getting there bit by bit. He had his first taste of lemonade the other day . Turned my back for a second and when I looked around he had pulled over my glass and was merrily sucking it off his hands .

Guide camp was fun but shattering as usual. Didn't help that ds has a stinking cold (you know the ones with rivers of runny snot that lends itself really well to snot bubbles) so while he is happy as larry (who is larry? Why is he happy?) during the day he doesn't sleep well. Had 2 nights of waking every hour or more so yesterday I bought medised and we managed 3 hours so he is dosed up again tonight!

And no, holidays with small people do not really exist whether it is one very small one or several larger ones dressed in blue. But very nice to see people back from theirs happy if not refreshed

Olihan · 04/09/2007 20:09

Bleurgh @ snot bubbles, Indith . Dd has one of those sort of colds at the moment, FIL calls it the Number 11 Green Line.

FGS, your dd looks gorgeous, those glasses are so lovely - where can I get some?

Lol at Magnolia's teleporting ds!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 20:41

Nightmare evening.

DD2 still not well. Inconsolable this afternoon. Breathing raspy and hoarse. Took to OOH Dr and immediately she became angel child smiling at doctor . Nothing serious. Possible sore throat. Feel like overprotective mum but drs were fine.

Then get home and DD1 goes through this any advice welcome.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 04/09/2007 20:51

FGS - she look lovely in her specs! As for the death situation...dd1 is starting to get a bit obsessed with death.

DH placed a call with the Doctor as dd1 had a temp of 39.2 c - we've all been under the duvet suffering with the flu. So we've been dosing up on the calpol and nurofen

Elibean · 04/09/2007 20:55

will you all please stop reminding me that we're entering the Season of Snot?

Hope noses recover soon. Indith, you're a star camping with small blue ones and teeny snotty one. In fact...dd1 would love to go camping, can I send her over?

FGS, poor dds...both of them. And you. How old is dd1? I should remember, but as usual don't

weirdbird · 04/09/2007 21:06

Am sitting her silently freaking and shivering with the memory, went outside to sit down for 5min with a small glass of wine after getting girls asleep and before starting work again (Mth end reports for me again!) and a bee got itself trapped in my hair, wouldn't come out and I ended up getting stung, feel all twitchy and weird.

Already have a bit of a phobia about wasps but have been ok about bees till now.

Thanks guys.

Margo - DD1 was 3 in march. All these sick children

babypowder · 04/09/2007 22:22

FGS, I've been searching for an article by Robert Winston that explained why children become fascinated with death round about 3-4. I was worried about this with DD1, as she seemed to be obsessed with death and dying for a while. But it is perfectly normal.

A friend's child, at around the same age, went around telling all her friends that not only were her own parents dying, but so were everyone else's Needless to say our friends were very , but it didn't last and there were no ill effects.

It is so hard, though, as we understand what death is, whereas with children it is more a concept than a reality. I think as long as you can tell them something with conviction then they are able to accept it more.

look at me whittering on

FunkyGlassSlipper · 05/09/2007 08:43

Thanks BP. That helps. Ironically DD1 slept in until 7am for the first time in ages without waking up . No mention of death today but she is now saying she doesnt want to wear specs to pre-school. I'm sure once she's there she'll be fine...

DD2now has a rash on her tummy and forehead. I've done the glass test and it disappears so it must just be part of the virus. She is grumpy too. But..........she drank half a cup of cow's milk this morning. I've been trying for ages to get her to drink milk. She had no breakfast today and then swiped her sisters cup and drank most of it!!! I'm hoping she perks up soon...

Sorry, a bit of a me me me post.

Hope you all have a good day.

Elibean · 05/09/2007 20:58

FGS, dd1 had several weeks' obsession with death earlier this year - she was 3 last Xmas. It started with a visit to my 100 yr old granny, when dd suddenly asked where her Mamie's (granny's) father was, was he dead, what did he die of etc. She was very anxious about it, on and off, but focussed on whether dh and I would die - so I handled it as a fear of abandonment rather than a real need to know 'about death', IYSWIM. She wasn't curious about what happens to people, just whether we were going to leave her. I think its very normal, but totally sympathize with how hard (and sometimes upsetting!) it is to see/hear them go through it...feels like some sort of growing-up milestone

I'm glad the rash vanished - ! Get well soon baby FGS, and baby Margo. How's baby BP today?

WB, how are YOU? Did it get worse before it got better?

As for us: dd1 woke up on French time, ie far too early, and has been in a foul mood most of the day. dd2 slept in, was in a great mood, has another tooth and will not sit/lie still anymore. She's having a hard time settling to sleep, 'cos she keeps trying to crawl in her sleep, poor thing - urgh, milestones. Speaking of which, she had her first bit of red meat tonight in the form of cottage pie....BLW and cottage pie are a sight to behold

Calmriver · 05/09/2007 21:46

Oh my goodness me!

I have just been searching ante-natal and wondering where the hec you guys had all gone....

How are you all doing? Amberli is 10 months this month and STILL NO TEETH!

Oooops, mentioned her name and now she's awake!

babypowder · 05/09/2007 22:32

DD2 has stopped wasting valuable BM! She is completely back to normal today (thank god) and tucked into her first solid food since Saturday.

Now I'm completely shattered ...

Have you recovered, WB? Sounds like me and spiders

Calm, we have no teeth here, either. Nice to see you again!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 06/09/2007 08:41

Hi Guys,

Terrible day yesterday as DD2s rash got worse and her temp dropped to 35 and she got all clammy and sleepy. I thought she was ok but worried all the same so called the Dr who asked me to bring her in. It was my 3rd trip to see a DR in 3 days . Of course in the car on the way she got all alert and was fine for the Dr. I couldn't believe it. GP was fine about it but he had stayed late at the surgery especially to see us so I was v embarrassed. He did say that she was probably tired as she had thought she was improving, got all active and wore herself out. He also said the rash was viral but not one to worry about...

She ate a full breakfast today for the first time in 3 days and is having a long sleep now so hopefully we've turned a corner.

Eli - thanks for death advice . It hasnt been mentioned since. I have a feeling it is as she has realised that mummy and daddy can hurt themselves after seeing a photo of me in a plastercast, combined with anxiety about her glasses...

Elibean · 06/09/2007 09:04

Ah, FGS, that makes sense (re dd1). Hows the glasses-wearing going today? I'm glad dd2's on the mend - amazing how they perk up en route to drs, eh

BP, hurrah for mended LO Hope that means extended kip for you...

Nice to see you, Calm, how was your summer?

dd2 waking on French time, no matter what time she goes to sleep, grrr. I'm having trouble sleeping, too - maybe start-of-term-itis? Sort of blah about being home, not sure if its hormones, post-holiday blues, or just lack of sleep! dd1 also waking early and having big wobblers as a result. Sigh.

babypowder · 06/09/2007 15:30

OK, ladies, I'm going to ask you this question because I can't bring myself to ask everyone else on here.

DD2 is just 5, in her first year at school. She can't read yet, although she is beginning to recognise patterns in words, and loves practising writing words. In her homework bag, she only has 1 learning tree book - the one with no words in it. Her best friend 2 books - the blank one and the first 'word' one.

Am feeling like a neglectful parent who hasn't tried hard enough .

FunkyGlassSlipper · 06/09/2007 16:07

DD1 is wearing her glasses well today. Hasnt bothered about them. Apparently at pre-school yesterday she told the parent helper she had to keep her glasses on all the time so it has definitely sunk in

bp - no idea about reading but I just found this. Dont know if it helps www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2403/353809

I really would try not to compare with her friends though. Perhaps she is just into other stuff more than words. My DD1 is only 3.5 but is really into numbers...

FunkyGlassSlipper · 06/09/2007 17:13

DD2 is not great. Sleeping after being up 40 mins and also covered in the rash now

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 06/09/2007 18:49

Aw FGS - I hope she gets better - we've called the doctor for the third day in a row for dd1 It's so worrying. It's a rotten bug

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 06/09/2007 18:51

BP - I'm the same as FGS - I've not got to that stage but I worry about each developmental stage my dds get to, especially when I compare them to my friends los of the same age. Thay always seem further ahead than mine.
