Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all, just a quick one as got family staying cos DS christening tomorrow. Will he/won't he pee in the font???? Will I/won't I get through the day without falling out with family?
Peachygirl, I'm still BF too and I never feel engorged (and can't bloody express unless DS is feeding off the other boob). DS has a feed first thing, a little one mid morning, little one mid afternoon and then one at bedtime (and one or two at night). I think your LO will probably be getting enough but it is really hard to know isn't it. When you're not with LO how much do they drink?
Also, def going to get onto the fire safety check when DH is back at work

peachygirl · 30/09/2007 19:07

She has formula at the childminders. I think about 5oz AM and the same PM. I really like the convienience of the BF but keep saying I'm going to stop.. I'll probably umm and ahh about it for weeks.. Maaybe I'll see what happens now her teeth have emerged.
Hope your christening went well

yelnats · 01/10/2007 22:11

I;m still Breastfeeding too and like you peachygirl I keep saying Im going to stop but cant be bothered to actually do it. She feeds from me normally (1 first thing, one mid morning, mid afternoon then bedtime) when im not at work and the 2 and a half days Im at work she takes formula from my mum. Ive had to express on a couple of occassions though. Im off to a wedding at the weekend and will be away for 2 days and nights without the kids, am a bit concerned as to how I will cope without feeding her as I get really engorged sometimes if i miss a couple of feeds and especially first thing in the morning, and even after expressing I am never comfortable til I feed her.

bealcain · 03/10/2007 08:01

Hello everyone, esp belcain. Back from our hols near Biarritz. Had alovely relaxing break, the hotel was attached to a thalasotherapy centre and we were able to put the kids in the childrens club for a couple of hours so we were able to enjoy the spa. Hotel was also right on the beach so DS had a fab time making sand castles and flooding them in the tide. DD has started to sleep through which also made life so much easier. Will now go from 7pm to 7am without too much fuss at bedtime. I put her in her own room and listened. I deceided she had two types of cry - 'I'm desperate' crying and 'I can wait but I'm trying it on' moaning! So I fed her when I heard the former (two nights) and I left her when I heard the latter and it worked!

I'm still breastfeeding also and have similar signs to you others. Don't ever really feel engorged anymore and DD is very quick to feed but doesn't really seem to take much. In a normal day when I'm with her she probably feeds 5 times for max 5 mins a time. I am a strong believer in she must know best though and just give her some cheese or yoghurt to ensure she has enough dairy. Won't take much formula either - max 2oz. I have read that however little breast milk the baby is taking, the good bits (antibodies etc) are always in the first bit to be let down though so it's still worthwhile bf for an extended period. Anyone else heard this?

babydriver · 03/10/2007 22:30

Glad you had a good break FFT, and welcome bealcain.

Still bfing here too, and also starting to think abt easing into formula but can't quite get my head round it yet. Also need to move DS into his own room sometime soon, but he's still sleeping pretty badly. Can't decide if he'll be better next door or not. Somehow it seemed easier to take these decisions first time round than this time. I guess I'm conscious that this is really the last time I'll have a LO and I want to hold on to that for a while longer.

Right, really ought to log off and go to bed...

bealcain · 04/10/2007 13:01

i know what you mean babydriver, ds1 seemed so easy to make decisions about, we knew when he was going to go into own room and all that jaxzz....this time round we're just taking it as it comes. still not sur which iprefer....want to keep ds2 my lo for as long as possible...not sure when or if i'll have another!

going to carry on bfing till he's ready to stop though. dont see the point in switching if he's happy and thriving! he's strted weaning now so not rally feeding that much anymore

SmudgeMum · 04/10/2007 15:37

Hi everyone and welcome Bealcain, Well the christening went well. DS had his feet in the font quite happily and all family still speaking to each other.
It was a lovely day but I'm absolutely exhausted. I think it wore DS out because he sort of slept through for the first time on Sun and then again on Mon but back to his usual waking after that. I think he was just showing us what he could do if he chose to FFT your break sounds fabulous - have the better nights continued?
Anyone doing anything exciting in the next few weeks? I'm starting to feel a bit bored and sad that the highlight of my week is going to a baby group or similar.

peachygirl · 04/10/2007 21:47

Hi all and welcome bealcain.
Things are moving with us especially with DD she is really crawling now and pulling herself up onto people and furniature. It's all a bit scary really. I was talking to a colleague and she had two children that walked at nine months!
Smudgemum, My mum and auntie are coming soon and I'm helping out at an NCT Fair. Is that exciting?
Last weekend we went to the Globe theatre to see a show and took DD. She behaved really well for the first half, even clapping when they played music.. a fluke I'm sure but very cute! She was a bit grumbly in the second half so I took her out and she crawled about and amused the ushers. Dh enjoyed the show .. It was all about the American constitution and it was nice to be cultured again.
Babay driver I think DD does sleep a bit better since we moved her into her own room. I'm sure we disturbed her when we came to bed

Thanks for all the bfing comments everyone, I feel much more relaxed about it all.

MoosMa · 06/10/2007 16:28

Hello everyone and welcome bealcain. Not a lot happening here, although T is getting much better at eating and drinking - she now has 3 meals a day and has dropped the lunch time milk feed and will drink some water from a spout cup (sometimes). She's still only got 1 tiny tooth but I think the next one is on its way (judging by the screaming that comes whenever anything goes near her mouth!).

She can't quite crawl yet, but in the kitchen she can slide across the floor like a seal just like DD1 used to - very amusing! It's very frustrating for her though as she can't get into the living room, she gets up to the carpet and gets stuck. She has a new noise which I think means she's cross - it's a kind of "bababababa" shouty noise.

And here's a shameless plug, don't forget about my site for selling stuff, I've got quite a few members now but not a lot of activity...

Sallyallyally · 06/10/2007 21:29

Been busy in our household...work is manic...had a (big) financial crisis...7 year old rebelling against school and still not much sleep! Henry however is fab...refuses any meals prepared for him, BUT will eat anything we're trying too! So today has had a spoonfull of fruit and fibre, a corner of toast, a small bite of chocolate cake, some egg on toast and roast lamb with all the trimmings! Oh yes..and a slice of peach! Walks round the furniture, is attemptng stairs and shakes his head to say no, giggling madly the whole time! Anyway..we are all surviving but it has been very hard recently and there have been a few tears. Never mind...onwards and upwards

marmitemad · 08/10/2007 21:41

Hi everyone,
Been having a horrendous time here since getting back from holiday. dd has had really bad diarrohea and violent choking vomit since last sunday and been really, really unhappy.

Went to drs on friday, he advised non specific d & v bug and to bring in a sample if still going on today which I duelly did only to find two little bottom teeth poking out at lunchtime . I knew that teething could cause upset tummies but this has been so bad I was sure there was some sort of bug involved, still this was the first time dd has been to the drs apart from 6 week check in 7 months which can't be bad going. Food intake has been almost non existant since being ill and I am exhausted, nights have been like having a newborn again.

SmudgeMum · 09/10/2007 17:51

Oh marmitemad that sounds tough. I hope teething isn't like that each time or you and she will be exhausted! Sallyallyally I hope things have calmed down. DS is reverse parking and reverse crawling but not really cruising. I've added a few new pictures though of him enjoying mealtimes.

Bienchen · 09/10/2007 20:23

Just briefly checking in after break to see my Mum with DD.

Marmitemad - that's horrible, you must have been so worried. Hopefully things will settle down now that the shark teeth are poking through ? At least they came through as a pair!!

SAA - sorry to hear about your problems. Having several problems at the same time is awful.

DD is rolling now - well occasionally anyway.

Still a windy baby which can be really frustrating especially in the evenings.

I have joined the flyladies in an attempt to get rid of some of the frustration of being a SAHM with the seemingly neverending drugery of housework and I think it is making quite a difference. Let's hope I can keep it up.

Off to shine my sink ...

MoosMa · 10/10/2007 09:45

Has anybody had Bounty packs recently? I haven't had one since the post birth one (which I got when T was about 4 months old!), I thought we ought to get one at about 6 months?

marmitemad · 10/10/2007 16:54

don't know about the bounty packs but I finally got round to sorting out a treasure basket for dd after visiting some charity and pound shops last week and she loves it. Keeps her entertained without input from us for ages, her favourite seems to be the bath plug and chain atm although the chinese chime balls are popular as well .

peachygirl · 10/10/2007 20:25

Hi all, Poor you marmite and poor DD
and best wishes to you sally for your woes.
I had a bounty pack a bit ago It had baby rice and a spoon and a few other bits and bobs in it.
DD has a terrble cold and has been very sniffy. She has been fine in herself though quite chirpy and moving about.

hellnats · 10/10/2007 23:08

Moosma - ds is is absolutely gorgeous!!

DD2 isnt too well either atm. Had a sticky eye at the weekend, seemed a bit better on Monday but sticky again yesterday am, took her to doc in pm and it was all clear by then. Gave me a prescription just incase it was back this morn which it wasnt. However past 2 nights have been really restless, she has been crying while half sleeping and today has come out in a marbly looking rash - mum took her to the pharmacy while i was at work and they didnt think it was anything to worry about - possibly from teething or a reaction to something she has eaten. She has been really unsettled today also which is so unlike her as she is normally a really happy baby. She is asleep now and the rash seems to be clearing a bit so I think I will just take her in with us tonight at see how she is in the morning.

Havent had a bounty pack in ages either.

hellnats · 10/10/2007 23:09

Sorry Smudgemum - i was referring to your new pics not Moosma - they are gorgeous!!

suis · 11/10/2007 00:13

Hi folks... not been on in ages, but still been lurking a bit.

Things are moving along here. Sandy is eating for Scotland these days, pretty much anything that gets put in front of him, and lots of things that aren't, but come within grab distance. He "digested" a fair bit of the Sunday papers at the weekend, and I had to retreive a post-it out of his mouth just this morning.

Today I had my first app with my wonderful wonderful osteopath since I gave birth. My back, neck and shoulder are knackered from heaving around a nearly 23pound baby.

Unfortunately, Sandy shows zero interest in crawling, or being on his front at all. Once he learned how to roll from front to back he didn't see any need to stay on his front for longer than a minute at a time. He does still love to stand and holds on to the cot and furniture to keep upright, he's even taking a few little steps when encouraged, but any useful walking is still a long way off.

Anyone got any ideas on getting him crawling ? He sits very well and reaches really far forward to grab things, but he seems stuck in the one place and it's frustrating both of us.

The last couple of weeks have been fun too as he's had a horrible cold, very snotty and having trouble feeding. And of course, his Dad got it too, and I got to look after them both, and now I have it and DP is back at work, so I get to look after me and Sandy while feeling lousy. No fair.

I'm going back to work in about a month and I am already having nightmares, and I really have to get Sandy off the daytime bfing before that, but I can't really face it at the moment. I can't stomach lots of expressing again, but I don't want to give him formula during the day either, so I'll have to get something sorted out.

Anyways, that covers the news for us.... Sorry to hear so many of you having a hard time. This mummy thing doesn't seem to get any easier, it's just different challenges that come along.

SmudgeMum · 11/10/2007 10:46

Morning everyone,
Glad you like the pictures Hellnats - we think he's gorgeous but then we're biased I hope the rash has gone now and the sticky eye doesn't return. Our sleep is starting to get better. It started when he was waking at 11pm for a feed and I decided that was just taking the p* so ignored him. He then slept until 5 and has managed til about that time every night since - 3 and counting (I'm being positive!) Saying that I'm still shattered because I keep going on MN or on the BLW site until about 11pm!
Suis, I've just made you a hot lemon drink to ease your snuffles - don't let it go cold. Also re daytime BF, you might find that DS just does without and makes up for it when you're back. I know I'm not at work so it's not regular but if I'm not around DS just has some fruit and water. Glad you had a good osteopath session. No hints on the crawling, I guess just keep doing as you are and put stuff just out of his reach etc DS can still only go backwards but can quite deftly get to sitting and has already investigated the bookcase, the hifi and find every bit of fluff on the floor. I think I need to join Bienchen in FLYing ( I keep lurking but it's one step too far to actually do the work, I prefer reading what eeryone else is doing )
Anyone seen anythingn from CadburyCremeEgg recently? I hope she is ok because I know things were a bit tricky a while back. Smudgemum goes off to try and figure out search function and see if CCE is posting elsewhere and has just fallen out with us

peachygirl · 11/10/2007 17:00

smudgemum I was wondering about CWCE too the other day

MoosMa · 11/10/2007 20:36

I was too, I keep meaning to CAT her but never seem to find the time!

babydriver · 11/10/2007 22:02

how weird, we must all be on some common wavelength as I was thinking of CWCE just yesterday too!

No major probs in our household, other than the nipper continuing to fail to sleep through, and being somewhat constipated. Have upped fruit and veg content hugely and waiting to see what happens. Helps that our pear tree is absolutely covered with fruit this year for the first time ever.

He had his 8 month check yesterday. All fine. HV checked him over and weighed and measured - he's almost 9.5kg and 75cm long so a bit of a whopper. Means we can change carseats now and shift one bit of baby kit out of the house.

Hope the end of the week is better for those who've been suffering.
