Suzi2 we started to withdraw from permanently attached to boob last night. We have given him a top up of formula at 7pm as I'm not producing enough milk for him. This is what allowed him to get through until 3am without stirring, so that change can stay.
From 3-5am however he was none of it AT ALL. I rocked, whispered, back rubbed, patted you name it, he wanted boob. After 2 hours or what seemed constant wailing (probably wasn't but you know) I gave up and brought him into bed, he fed 1.5 sides and went to sleep for 30 minutes before sitting up and pulling my hair for a laugh.
He went back to his cot until 6.30am when I had to get up with him.
Tonight I'm trying a different tack. I'm going up now to dream feed him and top him up to see if he'll go a bit longer.
We're experimenting now dh is off for a couple of weeks too.
On the subject of age gaps, 18 months is hard for the first year, then it's pimpy dimpy. My two eldest adore each other and are v. v. close. I think there is too big a gap between no.2 and no.3 (2yr 11mth), and feel we should think now about having another if we are to create a similar gap again. Having done it both ways, shorter is better imho.

curlywurlycremeegg · 22/12/2007 07:29

DCMY, you have such a way with words ever considered writing for a living, I would be hanging on for each weekly installment if you had a column in a paper or magazine!

Suzi2 and Sorky, are you raving mad my 10 year gap between DS1 and DD was bliss, my 2 year gap between DD and DS2 has been hell on toddler legs I would love another but due to DH being such a prat and our split it looks like it wont be on the cards......actually I would have loved 6 kids in total but financially it may have been a bit of a struggle!

After 3 years in very unflattering maternity/nursing bras I have decided to treat myself to some "fancy" ones, no chance of the two of the giving up feeding for a while so will need to be nursing ones, any ideas?

ocomeALLYebabies · 22/12/2007 07:41

hello everyone [enters timidly] can i join? my ds2 is 25th Feb. i'm also due again in June/July! i'll have 3 under 3 madness or what??

anyway hope you dont mind me barging in........

MoosMa · 22/12/2007 09:59

I vote for a small age gap too, we have 17.5 months between DDs 1 and 2 and it was very hard at the start but now it's just lovely when they play together. We do get a lot of "No Tabby No!" and like Suzi2's DS, DD1 is very keen on squashing and hitting but as DD2's only 5lbs lighter I doubt it will be very long before the roles are reversed!

MoosMa · 22/12/2007 09:59

Oh and welcome ocomeALLYebabies too

ocomeALLYebabies · 22/12/2007 13:32

thanks moosma, i've 15months between ds1 and ds2 and will have 15/16 between ds2 and dc3! small is definately better.

suzi2 · 22/12/2007 14:11

CWCE, I have an anita underwired nursing bra which is quite nice, though I'm looking for H-J cups so my choices are limited. Elle macphesron ones look nice though if you're an A-DD cup. I actually bought a normal underwired bra for a wedding last week and it's fab. Such a difference to wearing unsupportive grotty nursing/maternity ones the last 3 years! I obviously couldn't feed using it, but it was nice to feel nice for the day. I got matching pants too. Hand wash only pants that were £14 so perhaps not a worthy investment. But I felt good!

suzi i know your problem, i went on a diet after ds2 was bron and the gym and ended up going from 36 back to a 30, so now i'm a 30K and cant find nursing bras anywghere. i've tried bravissimo but they're useless!! i did by a lovely 'normal' bra though...my boobs actually looked good! still going to be shapeless ones for me again! still breastfeeding and have been told they're bringing out underwired ones....

peachygirl · 22/12/2007 22:22

Hi everyone, welcome to the thread ocomeALLYebabies.
We are now home, the funeral went well. It was packed, people were standing at the back and I managed to hold it together to speak.
I'm still faffing around with my Bfing. I do give DD bottles during the day but do give her a bit of a BF too. It has no rhyme or reason at the moment.
In the new year I think I will try to get into a better routine.
We had four independent steps from DD tonight, very exciting

suzi2 · 24/12/2007 15:17

Eeek peachy, well done baby peach We had 2 independent steps on Saturday but nothing since. I can't decide if I'm excited or terrified! I remember it being easier when DS was walking as he was easier to tire out and I wasn't bent over 'walking' with him all the time. But then there were all the bruises... and my two are partners in crime at the moment so good knows what they'll be like!

Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday, I know we did! I managed to cook Christmas dinner (2 ducks, 5 veg) for 5 adults and 2 little ones , my cake was yummy too which is good for a first attempt, so I'm feeling like a bit of a wonderwoman today but I doubt it'll last!

The DDs got some brilliant things and were very well behaved all day, although DD1 had a tantrum at bedtime from over-excitement and exhaustion.

DD2 figured out how to clap at dinnertime too which made my day

peachygirl · 26/12/2007 20:17

That sounds great Moosma
A pretty good day here too. DD is pushing the little wooden trolley that was bought for her up and down the living room and has played with most of the bits we got for her.
We ae going to brave the sales tomorrow

babydriver · 26/12/2007 22:10

first things first, sorry peachy for not sending condolences earlier. Glad you had a good day yesterday, and happy shopping tomorrow.

And welcome ocomeALLYebabies, and congrats on bump number 3.

We had a good day yesterday, DSs seemed to enjoy themselves and not too overexcited. They spent most of the time playing with each other's toys - who knew that at 10mo, DS2 actually wanted a remote controlled jeep for Xmas...

Things were a bit overshadowed however by the fact that my stepdad was rushed to hospital on Xmas Eve with a flare-up of a stomach condition which he's had for a while and which none of the quacks have been able to fathom. He was seen pretty quickly and discharged Xmas morning but has to have a load more tests as soon as they can book them in the new year. It doesn't look too good but we'll have to wait and see what the tests show.

bye for now!

sorkycake · 29/12/2007 16:21

Welcome OcomeALLYobabies and congrats on you pg, little bit jealous moi? you bet!
Well, things are starting to settle sleepwise in the sorky house, thank God! He now has a bottle of formula at bedtime and feeds at 11pm from me, then that's it until 6-6.30pm. He sometimes wakes at about 3-4am, but quickly settles with a dummy. I'm hoping he'll just not wake up then eventually.

peachygirl · 29/12/2007 21:11

Thanks for all your kind thoughts everyone. we're off to Notts for new year so I'll have a break from MN!
Fingers crossed for your FIL babydriver

DontCallMeYummy · 30/12/2007 15:56

So that was the Feb 07 Babies' 1st Christmas... though I guess it's not officially over until the last of the Quality Street have been scoffed and I've stopped finding bits of chewed tinsel in Don'tCallMyMummyYummy's nappies.

Following the avalanche of overindulgence that was DCMMY's Christmas presents I am now trying to find space for all the new trains, trucks, books, cuddly creatures and clothes that Santa's representatives here on Earth have bestowed upon my utterly oblivious boy. First job is to go through his drawers removing the 'too small' clothing and introducing the new stuff. This is making me really sad... Having to say goodbye to the cool little leopardprint hoodie with ears that I received last Christmas when DCMMY wasn't even DCMMY yet, realising that I'll never dress him again in the organic cotton dungarees that I almost got into a fight with another mum in the Green Baby sale over, and that by next Halloween his little feet will be way too big for his pumpkin slippers, not to mention the rogue scratch mitt I found wedged at the back of the drawer from when he was a -gasp!- newborn. I guess as a co-sleeping stay-at-home single mum I'm with him so much that I haven't noticed he's grown so much. But he has! I'm now scared to blink in case I open my eyes to find 6ft of stubble and creased tshirt asking me to lend him 20 quid for the train back to uni. Hopefully not before I've gotten some wear from the new Thomas the Tank Engine shorts.

marmitemad · 31/12/2007 13:41

Happy new year Feb 2007 babies and mummies .

We had the weekend from hell with dd but woke up on Christmas day to find the tip of a front top tooth peeking out at us .

dd thoroughly enjoyed her Christmas dinner and even ate some carrot . She is not too impressed with the wooden walker trolley atm but loves her rocking horse and the hideous noisy plastic ride lion some friends gave her .

We are off to buy the next stage car seat today as it is just getting too difficult to battle with the stage 0 one (she still isn't 9kg but hv says it should be ok).

ocomeALLYebabies · 31/12/2007 16:29

marmite - LO has been out of it for ages as it says 9months or 20lbs, so we went with the 9months, he's nowhere near 20lbs yet, i think he's about 16!!

MoosMa · 31/12/2007 17:01

I thought they had to be at the weight limit or the seat belt doesn't lock properly... I am being over-protective and keeping her facing backwards until all her limbs are hanging over the edges!

MoosMa · 31/12/2007 17:02

Oh dear I just reread that and it sounds a it preachy , sorry I didn't mean it like that at all, er, oh dear....

suzi2 · 01/01/2008 16:32

I get you MoosMa - marmitemad, I'd definately consult the road safety officer at a police station on that one. HVs speak a lot of cr*p in my experience and it was my understanding that the weight minimum was an absolute must for proper safety in a crash.

OP posts:
marmitemad · 01/01/2008 18:31

thanks for the advice everyone, dd was 8.8kg on the 17/12 so is not far off anyway but will look into checking the guidelines with the council road safety advisor and I will try to get her weighed on Thursday this week.

Did everyone have a good new years eve? we had a party with friends and family at the outlaws house which was great for us as we could stay over although I felt rubbish as I have another cold. dd woke up at 23:50 so we kept her up to see in the new year and she seemed most bemused by all the party poppers and dancing, not scared at all.

CurrantBun · 01/01/2008 20:54

I know exactly what you're saying, DCMY. DS seems to have changed from baby to little boy in the last couple of weeks - he's adorable and so cute, but where did my helpless little baby go? And he's getting so clever too! He decided he didn't like Mummy's lovingly prepared chicken and sweet potato casserole, so wily Mummy resorted to dipping the tip of the spoon in yoghurt to encourage an open mouth. He soon wised up to the fact that behind the yoghurt lurked Something Nasty and ate the yoghurt only, leaving Something Nasty behind on the spoon. Little rascal! He's already asserting his will at only 10 months - I see battles ahead!

We had a quiet New Year's Eve, just hubby and I with food courtesy of M&S - lots of yummy party food and plenty of bubbly. We got dressed up - even though we were staying in we decided a little more effort was called for than our usual evening attire of ancient jogging bottoms and greying sweatshirts. DS rather obligingly slept in until 8:15am this morning (his routine has gone a bit out the window over Christmas, apart from his bedtime, but he's still slept fantastically) so we got a mini lie-in, but as we rather stupidly didn't go to bed until gone 2am we have both been like zombies today.

Just found some photos of last Christmas and New Year - goodness, I looked enormous! Hard to believe my belly could ever have expanded that much! At least I was able to have more than a thimble of Champagne this year!

Happy New Year to you all - now to brace ourselves for our Feb 07 babies' first birthdays ...

peachygirl · 02/01/2008 21:36

We're still using the infant carrier car seat. Like your DD marmite, my DD was under the weight limit when last weighed. I have been looking at the britax first class seats which can be used rear facing until about 15 months and well as the other ones.

She is definitely stepping now, about 4/5 steps at a time bringing us things and an attempt to chase the cat today! It ended with her on her bum though- the baby not the cat!

We had a quiet new year with my parents and we are home now and are very plaesed to be sitting on our sofa, looking forward to a night in our own bed

SmudgeMum · 03/01/2008 20:18

Hi all, Happy Christmas and new Year and all that. We've been travelling up and down the country so have been away from t'internet for ages. Hello and congrats to ocomeallyebabies. Sorry to hear about your Uncle Peachy and hope your stepdad gets some answers babydriver. I second (or third I think) the growing baby feeling. I found a newborn hat at the back of the drawer and felt all weepy. Our LO isn't particularly big (HV wants me to take him back to be weighed in 2 weeks as hasn't put on much last month) but he's starting to fill 12 month clothes and that's scary. We were all poorly over Christmas and DS was off his food. I don't think he really ate anything on Christmas day but he's making up for it now. He lurves mince pies!!!
