CWCE - lovely to hear from you and that you are soo tired. Very of your healithness currantbun. (I was going to put very of your running and then realised that I wasn't at all, just of your being healthy )

Glad to hear that someone else hasn't got any teeth. I know DS will get there but I think all the other LO that we see have at least 2! DS loves his food and eats really well. Saying that, he's now 20lb 8oz which is only 3 oz more than a month ago. He is very speedy at the crawling though and can pull himself up on anything before you have chance to move the remote, phone, or any other electrical gadget!

SmudgeMum · 03/12/2007 13:12

Oh, meant to say Daizydoo. We have definite destructive streak here. He will crawl at breakneck speed to knock down a tower and generally causes chaos wherever we go!

daizydoo · 04/12/2007 18:39

Had DS weighed today and he's 23lb 12oz- hasnt quite made it to your lo's weight suis!! At the moment he's only eating a small portion of his meals and filling up on milk during the night. The Health Visitor suggested letting him cry and just giving him water in the night - not sure that I can do that on my own. Might just wait until DH is back!!

Glad to hear that there at least one other lo with a destructive streak!!

peachygirl · 04/12/2007 21:13

DD can be quite destructive too, it's not just the boys!!

MoosMa · 04/12/2007 21:47

T is too, although I've been quite impressed at how responsive she is if I say "Tabby, No." Most times she'll look at me, then if I say it again she crawls off to find something else to break!

She was weighed yesterday and is nearly 19lbs which is a bit under the 50th centile, she dropped down a line a couple of weeks ago when she had a tummy bug and isn't catching up again but she seems ok. She's still 11 weeks ahead of DD1 weight-wise, she's the same weight DD1 was at 1 year old! Also she stood unaided for 7 seconds this evening - woohoo!

Is anybody else dreading the damage which will be done to the Christmas tree? We're putting off getting one until about the 23rd I think.

suzi2 · 05/12/2007 10:17

We're wondering about putting our (fake) tree up. DS wasn't crawling the first year we had it up and then next year was walking well so it wasn't an issue. But I'm kind of worried that DD will try and pull up on it and get a branch in the eye or something. Might stick it on the dining table... we rarely eat there!

Yes, having the same thoughts about Christmas tree. D is pulling himself up on anything going and I think it might be a disaster. We're away for Christmas so might put it up on 13th as having a few friends round on 14th. If everyone comes there will be 9 of us plus babies (all aged 9-10 months) and some OH as well. We don't live in a very big house either but it should be good.

marmitemad · 05/12/2007 13:22

we aren't putting our tree up until the 23rd as dh insists on waiting until last weekend before and also because we get a real tree.

I have an inkling that crawling will follow very soon after, we are planning to shut doors to minimise the carnage once dd is moving around

CurrantBun · 05/12/2007 14:40

Beginning to think DS is going to be slow to start moving around. Is quite happy to sit on his butt! Apparently I also crawled relatively late though so maybe a genetic thing? He has excellent fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination so seems more content to sit and play with things rather than exploring his environment. On the plus side it looks as though we will escape with our Christmas tree intact for this year at least!

Reading about all your babies he also seems quite small - was 18lb three weeks ago and I doubt he'll have gained much since as seems to have completely gone off his milk and will only take a small amount mid-afternoon and before bed. He has about 6oz in the morning but probably only because he's starving by then. He LOVES his solids - his favourites are chicken casserole, and cod in cheese sauce with broccoli (I make batches of food for him and freeze them). Yesterday he fed himself some toast, and he bites great chunks out of bananas which he loves. I gave him some avocado out of my prawn and avocado sandwich yesterday, which he also seemed to like, and DH gave him some of the rice from a piece of vegetarian sushi! I think he just wants to eat what mummy and daddy have and finds his formula milk really boring. I just hope he puts on weight OK without as much milk - I do try to make up for what he hasn't drunk by putting it in his cereal, baby rice etc. but I have no real idea about what size portions a 9-month old should be having? He probably has about 100ml of food 3 times a day plus his milk, plus whatever snacks he has (usually some toast, banana or rice cakes).

Other babies his age seem to be much heavier! Then again, I'm tiny and DH is only about 5'9" and pretty lean so he's never likely to be huge. He's pretty much exactly followed the 25th centile for weight (they don't measure their height at our clinic which I find a bit odd) but the last couple of times I've had him weighed he's dropped off towwards the 9th centile a bit. HV didn't seem concerned and said it's probably because he's so much more active now, rolling around all over the place. We find him in all sorts of strange positions in his cot when we go in to his room in the morning! He looks the picture of health so am not really worried, and assume if I wasn't feeding him enough he'd be fractious (which he isn't) and would let me know!

DontCallMeYummy · 05/12/2007 15:08

21lb 2oz!

Mothers of larger-bummed-babes - you have my sympathy!

I am putting up my decorations this week as we're going to my Mum's for Christmas and I want to live in a grotto for as long as possible. I'm getting a little conifer as a tree so I can plant it in the garden afterwards.

Is anyone planning on introducing Christmas traditions for their families? My Mum used to take me every year to choose a bauble for the Christmas tree and I've already chosen Don't Call My Mummy Yummy's for this year. My Nana used to always give me a new pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve so DCMMY's Granny is going to start that one up again. I like to watch It's a Wonderful Life last thing on Christmas Eve so I'll be sticking that on once DCMMY is tucked up with his stocking. I can see in years to come the Mummy-visits-a-spa-the-day-after-Boxing-Day...for-a-month tradition being introduced.

DontCallMeYummy · 05/12/2007 15:21

CurrantBun I wouldn't worry - DCMMY has gone all fussy and now turns his nose up (and firmly shuts his mouth) at everything other than banana, rice cakes, porridge, toast - and Mummy. But he's fine, and I've never had a book or 'manual' for him, I just reckon I'd know if all wasn't well with him. And as he's perfectly happy, noisy and smiley I reckon he's doing ok. Oh, I just looked over and he's tucking into his toy monkey - so much for my vegetarian son...

CurrantBun · 05/12/2007 16:24

Thanks DCMY - I reckon I'd know if all wasn't well too. He's such a happy, smiley baby and he eats and sleeps really well (at the risk of totally pi**ing everyone off we haven't got up in the night since he was about 3.5 months) so I'm sure he's fine - he's just not going to be a big boy.

DS would sell his soul for yoghurt so if he ever has a fussy food day he either gets whatever he's refusing alternated with spoonfuls of yoghurt or the food itself dunked in yoghurt. Felt really mean about doing this until I read it as a tip in Jo Frost's book!

suzi2 · 05/12/2007 20:08

DD is only about 17-18lbs I think currantbun. She's teeny height wise, though my DH is only 5'6" which is where our two get it from. It's only going to be a bother for the next stage car seat - at current rate of growth she'll be about 18 months before she's 20lbs. And she's already hitting the grouchy "don't like this rear facing seat" stage!

She's also hitting the picky eater stage. IIRC, DS only ate dried apricots, cereal and oatcakes at this age...

CurrantBun · 06/12/2007 10:57

Suzi2, guess they'll be the size they'll be - I can't make him eat more! Shouldn't complain though as in general he's great with his food. Just doesn't like his milk much - hopefully he'll prefer cow's milk when the time comes.

DCMY, I like the Christmas tradition idea. If I'd got my act together I was going to order a bauble with his name and the year for the Christmas tree to start us off - Blooming Marvellous were doing them - but the last date for ordering was 23rd November and I only remembered last week

He's absolutely fascinated with the Christmas tree - he stared at the lights for ages yesterday, and explored the branches and the baubles (as far as he was allowed!)

peachygirl · 06/12/2007 20:46

My DD's not huge either currentbun, she had only put on just over a lb when I last had her weighed but like you both me and Dh aren't huge so she isn't going to be either. I've been off work with a poorly baby today A fair amount of vomiting but it seems to have finished and she has kept down Breast milk, a bit of formula and a (very) wizzed up banana.
I'm very excited about christmas this year. I have bought us a new (fake) tree it's only small so will fit on top of a book case in our front room.
Last year we didn't have any decorations up due to us going through the house sale (anyone remember that trauma??) and me being VV tired.
BUT yesterday was my birthday and traditionally Christmas cannot begin until that has passed, so in our house Christmas is officially on.
I would like to start the Pyjama tradition and I like to buy a new decoration thing each year and have ordered one with DDs name on it.
I have bought two of my frieds those swedish chimes for their presents. like these I really like mine and hope they will use them and be reminded about their babies first christmas every year.
I love to watch 'The nightmare before christmas' and 'It's a wonderful life too'. But My all time favourite christmas film is 'The muppet Christmas carol'

marmitemad · 06/12/2007 21:13

dd has new pyjamas and a new dress for Christmas day (which we always had too) and I have made tree baubles with her handprints on for us and the grannies. I always watch its a wonderful life on Christmas eve after making mince pies.

happy birthday peachygirl, hope you had a nice day

SmudgeMum · 07/12/2007 16:06

oh girlies. Talking about Christmas traditions has started me getting all excited. We've been given a Baby's first Christmas bauble but think I might be too scared to put it on the tree
Christmas traditions - well St Nicholas came yesterday as DH is dutch. We're now well stocked up on yummy goodies. Ds had his first chocolate too
Might have to start the new PJs on Christmas Eve and new outfit. This year it will be fancy dress as I gave in and bought a dress up outfit. Although he's wearing it to a few Crimbo parties first so maybe doesn't count.

daizydoo · 08/12/2007 21:12

Please dont worry about baby size! My DS is only huge as his father, plus his brothers and my brothers are all 6ft3 or taller - so I was never going to have a small child!!(and I still have the stretch marks to prove it!) He was something like 74cm about 6 weeks ago!

We aren't really going to have any Christmas traditions this year at least as we're off to South Africa tommorrow, to visit the inlaws!! So am desperately trying to pack everything I think we might need. I'm really not looking forward to the 12hr flight on my own with a small child!! Hopefully he will sleep - or I'll have to resort to slipping him something in his nighttime milk
We will be away for a good 3-6 months, so I'll probably catch up with all your news when I get back. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

peachygirl · 08/12/2007 21:57

WOW Daizydoo have a great time. A happy christmas etc.

yelnats · 09/12/2007 00:02

Currantbun dont worry about your ds's size - my dd1 (3 and a half) only weighs 26lb 5oz! She is and always has been really small for her age but she certainly isnt the smallest in her playgroup. dd2 is a good bit in front of her in weight stakes - she is 18lb 12 1/2 oz- only gained 1 and a half oz in the last month or so.

We took the plunge and put the tree up tonight so dd2 hasnt had the chance to pull it down - yet! She is into absolutely everything - she is crawling confidently and very quickly, has stood on her own a few times and looks like she is ready to let go of the furniture at times. Totally different from dd2 - she was about 13 months before she even thought about letting go and standing on her own.

SmudgeMum · 09/12/2007 21:57

Ok, who else is jealous of Daizydoo in S Africa for 3-6 months???!!!
I think we'll be putting up our tree later this week. Has anyone worked out how to stop little people being too interested?

MoosMa · 10/12/2007 14:07

I am! I'm also rather {envy] of my brother who's going to Dubai for Christmas.

I think we're going to get our tree this weekend and rig something up using the sofa and a stair gate!

MoosMa · 10/12/2007 14:09

Oh, I meant of course.

peachygirl · 10/12/2007 17:26

We have put our on top of the TV/video cabinet (which is quite large)DD keep having a flick at the lowest baubles but can't get them off.

babydriver · 10/12/2007 22:27

hi folks! Not been on for a while - v busy at the moment, trying to get all the pressies online. Think I'm just about there now, except for DH [eek!] but I'm planning a day in central London on Friday after a morning meeting in work so that shd sort him out. Hopefully I'll find something from him quickly and can spend the rest of the day mooching round the shops enjoying myself .

Our tree will be in the dining room window, which is at the front of the house, away from DSs and the cat. I went to Ikea last week and got some cheapy decs to hang in the living room - will prob do them at the weekend. Our main tradition is leaving out carrot, mincepie and a glass of sherry for Santa and Rudolph. I also love listening to all the cheesy Xmas songs - Jonah Lewie and all those kind of things.

DS2 was almost 21lbs a month ago, and has been eating well since then so expect he's well over that mark now. Certainly feels that way! He's now on a bottle of formula for his bedtime milk (tho' I think it's making him constipated) so only one bf a day now. Hope to drop it before Xmas so I can have a proper drink for the first time in two years, but depends on whether he's still bunged up!! Slept through the night again over the weekend, but last night was awake 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 3:30 before waking at 6 for the day. One day we'll get there...
