A new thread for the second half year

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
suzi2 · 28/11/2007 16:09

lol, do you know that's what my mum suggested?

Not much time with the babyhawk today It will get the test tomorrow after work when DD is dropped off as I want to get some laminating done.
Ooh the Ellaroo looks nice too. I was sure I wanted a mei tei though.
DCMY couldn't you have several bed guards round your bed??

MoosMa · 28/11/2007 22:01

Not sure they'd be tall enough, T can climb over the one on DD1's bed!

DontCallMeYummy · 28/11/2007 22:12

I was thinking of getting a Tomy bed rail only realised it's designed with older children rolling out of bed in mind. Little intrepid DCMMY would simply climb up it and topple over the edge, and I'm not sure Social Services would be too keen on that one. Hence my new bed request to one F. Christmas.

DontCallMeYummy · 28/11/2007 22:55

Oh - Peachy - which Babyhawk design did you get? Did you get it here or was it shipped over?

SmudgeMum · 29/11/2007 09:57

Hope you had better nights. LOL at DCMY new bed. If you just had your mattress on the floor would they climb off and start playing? Just wondered if it was a safer option to leave them if they did happen to fall asleep? although then you'd have to find somewhere to store the bed base....
I'm thinking that I wish I'd bought a sling instead of a babybjorn. We have had good use from it but DS is getting too big now and the slings you have look sooo comfy for them. I think I can justify getting a new sling because (whispers)We're not trying for another but we're not being careful either - saying that, I'm asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow so it would be a minor miracle at the moment!
Hi to Currantbun - we're very impressed with the number of teeth. DS still hasn't got any and will be 10 months next week. Maybe that's why I'm still BF!!!

DontCallMeYummy · 29/11/2007 13:34

What's the genreral Tooth Count amongst the 9/10 month-ers? DCMMY has 8 now, 4 up 4 down. And I'm still breastfeeding, with only the occasional nip...

MoosMa · 29/11/2007 13:49

T only has 2 little teeth at the bottom, I think the next 2 bottom ones and first 2 top ones are on their way though.

She has a nasty cold today, she woke in the night so I grabbed the calpol and rushed to her side, but in my sleepy haze I dropped it and the bottom broke off the bottle spilling the precious pink magic everywhere. I looked on in dispair as I realised my hopes for sleep were pouring away

Had to make a special trip out this morning to restock - what did people do before calpol was invented? Did babies just not get ill???

marmitemad · 29/11/2007 19:30

we've only got 2 bottom teeth but I am sure that more are on the way.

peachygirl · 29/11/2007 20:39

We have two teeth through and one emergent here. The top left one is coming through now.

My mei tai was from big mama slings and is the cathedral one. I went for a safe-ish design as I want DH to wear it though it is reversable and is plain black on the back. I think my Dad is quite keen to use it too - he loved the baby bjorn!!
The service from Big mama was great. I ordered it on Sunday night and it arrived on Tuesday! They don't have a huge selection of baby hawks though.
snuggle snooze also have a great selection and slingjax also have a good reputation.
I have another thread about them going on toohere I initially asked about the minkee lining... as you can see I did my research

marmitemad · 29/11/2007 20:52

slings look fabulous, would love to do another meet up in the new year so I can have a play .

hope you enjoy the terracotta army .

peachygirl · 29/11/2007 21:16

great, shall we arrange something in a bit.. sorry can't cope with it at the moment, head full of the teething baby Dh who is poorly and the school concert which somehow I have a big role in organising (eek)

DontCallMeYummy · 30/11/2007 15:42

Genereal??? To think I was once the best in my class at spelling. I heard that a new mother's brain sacrifices existing space to make room for all things baby - which is probably why my spelling is going down the tiolet yet I have a sixth sense for knowing when Don't Call My Mummy Yummy is half a crawl away from the edge of the bed.

Is my toothsome child a freak? Why does he have such a large amount of teeth in his head compared to the rest of the Feb-babes? It's funny, reading something one of you posted about their baby waving 'bye bye' I became paranoid for a while that DCMMY was a lazyarse as his only words to date have been 'reeeeeaaaaaagggh!' and 'mmmmmmmmmuurrrr!'. Eeeeesh. I'm quite glad I never had an NCT group, I can see the potential for baby-comparing, a sure-fire route to Going Bonkers. An NCT group of a friend of mine has just splintered, depending on which others the hostess of the week can't stand.

Peachy I want a Babyhawk with either Mexican skulls or sailors' tattoos on the front. I guess one benefit of being a single mum is that I never have to compromise on aesthetics - which quite frankly I'm astounded I can still spell.

DontCallMeYummy · 30/11/2007 15:44

General...genreral...genereal...it's definitely Cadbury's Twirl O' Clock.

MoosMa · 30/11/2007 17:30

A friend of mine has a Feb baby too and she has 8 teeth (the baby, not the mother) so I don't think you should feel too strange DCMY.

suis · 30/11/2007 18:48

General DCMY,

we have 6 teeth here. 4 up 2 down and more on their way I think. Also still bfing although I wish the nips were occasional. Every time we get a new tooth he seems to need to try it out on me... till he's blunted it off a bit of course.

Captain Suis.

suzi2 · 30/11/2007 20:41

No teeth for us. DS didn't get any until 10.5 months so would imagine DD would be the same. DDs RL friends of the same age have between 2 and 6 teeth.

OP posts:
peachygirl · 30/11/2007 21:13

One of my friends babies has six teeth too.
My NCT group are nice and there isn't a great feeling of competition. but it is there IYSKIM They were quite shocked at DD's crawling and one mum is really wanting her child to too. She is also the one who got the flashcards out!
Mostly we are quite relaxed and we went out for a meal the other week and it was really nice to see them without the babies.
The dads went out too but DH said this was quite competitive with a couple of them really dominating the conversation and checking their blackberries lots!
I recently suggested to a couple of mums we go swimming with that we should go for a coffee and I see my friend from work whose baby is a few weeks older than DD. My neighbour stopped by the other day too to say she saw me on Cbeebies- my 'Something special' episode was on. Any way wahat I suppose I'm saying in a mad rambling way is I like my NCT group but like to see other people too!!

suzi2 · 30/11/2007 21:26

peachy - what episode? you weren't helping kids make boats with sticky paper were you? I'm trying to recall all the episodes I've half seen lately now!

I meet with some of DDs friends mums each week. DD is the only one that's properly mobile and until yesterday I think the other mums were all wanting their DCs to get crawling and cruising. But since they've witnessed the high speed chases, falling and banging head, pulling up on anything and leaving finger marks on nice glass tables and screaming when taken away from dangerous things I think they might be changing their minds! I can remember how it was with DS though. I was desperate for him to crawl/walk and he seemed so late compared to others (not that he was). But this time around I realise the problems these things bring

OP posts:
peachygirl · 30/11/2007 21:28

The five little ducks one. I'm lurking about in the background of the PE (in on and under ) one too

CurrantBun · 30/11/2007 21:38

My DS has 6 teeth too, four up and two down. He's just turned 9 months. Not crawling yet, although I don't think it will be long as keeps getting on to his tummy and making "swimmer stranded on a beach" movements.

I meet up with my NHS antenatal group pretty much every week, although it's a bit harder now some of us are back at work. We are a very relaxed group and we recently did a Sunday lunch thing with all the dads and babies too, which was great as none of the dads had seen any of the other babies. But I also have a couple of other local mum friends who are nothing to do with the antenatal group. The group isn't really competitive but it does make you compare your child with other people's, even if you try not to. Lots of the other babies are crawling and some are even almost walking, but DS is still quite happy to sit on his backside! That said, he has excellent fine motor skills and mastered the 'pincer grip' at about 6.5 months, said "Mum" even before that and can wave and flick the light switch on! So what they lack in one area they make up for in others - and they all get to the same place in the end.

Was stressing the other day that I'm not making DS's food lumpy enough but then figured that no-one is still eating puree when they're 18 so at some point we learn to eat lumps. At least he eats his food. Was in the cafe in Mamas & Papas today and there was an 11-month old still eating really smooth food, most of which was dribbling down her chin. DS barely needs a bib, he eats so cleanly (think he just can't bear the idea of any of it escaping his mouth!)

MoosMa, yep - I'm still running! Managing to get out 4x a week when hubby gets in from work - sometimes it's hard but am managing about 25 miles a week at the moment. Am now as small as I was pre-pregnancy.

Not sure yet whether we'll be providing a baby brother or sister for DS. As I'm not getting any younger it's something we can't ponder over for too long - but not keen on the thought of having to get pregnant again probably next year!

DontCallMeYummy · 30/11/2007 23:55

Ah. Thank you Tooth Counters. Now I officially have the toothiest child, after next week's weigh-in at the clinic I will be investigating whether I also have the heaviest-bum child. As he was tipping the scales at 20lb 2oz in October I think I may have a contender...

curlywurlycremeegg · 01/12/2007 00:29

Hello everyone, doing my (what feels like) yearly drop in . Thngs are manic here and I am trying to relax with a glass of wine after finishing some more work on my website. DS2 is still a poor sleeper, so Suiz2 and DCMY you have company, he wakes regularly (about every 2 hours) in the night for a feed, I have to feed him to sleep and never truly "drops off" till gone 9pm. I am absolutly shattered but hey ho, that's the way some kids are I guess. He now has 5 teeth and is walking using his push along walker, started cruising round the furniture at 8 month ! My other two were virtually bang on 12 months when they walked so he is the speedy gonzales in our family. I am still breastfeeding, no surprise really as I am also still feeding DD , guess she may give up before school! I have to admit I have been crap at weaning DS2, he has the odd bit of food bit is still mainly breastfed, I really don't want to do food with him....partly psychological as it looks like no more babies for me and partly that I am being lazy! DCMY, I am pretty sure DS2 can give DCMMY a run for his money in the big bummed stakes, he is huge, not had him weighed since he was 3 weeks old , but will pop him on some scales soon and let you know! Well now I have finished my wine I guess i had better get back to work, will try to "pop in" more often as it is so lovely to hear what everyone is up to

daizydoo · 01/12/2007 08:53

Does no one else have a DC with a destructive streak? DS just seems to trash every room he goes into. Saying no is like a green light to go ahead - its doing my head in!
As for eating hes not great. Seems to prefer jars to my food . Infact seems to prefer to nibble on candles rather than eat anything I put in front of him (dont worry I'm not trying to feed them intentionally - seems to find everything he shouldn't!)
Can you tell I'm frustrated - I tell you I take my hat off to all single mothers!

suis · 01/12/2007 09:29

Ah DCMY, I think I might top you on the big boy stakes... at last weigh in DS was a very healthy (and back breaking) 24lbs !
