Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
yelnats · 29/10/2007 21:48

Hi sll - hope everyone is well again. dd had a bit of a virus the other week too but all is well again. She is now crawling properly and is trying to get into absolutely everything!! DD1 was such a placid child in comparison - could leave her playing with her toys and would always know that she wouldnt get up to much while i was out of the room. DD2 just seems to find trouble - pulling out plugs and smashing vases!! Wild child that she is .She is also pulling herself to standing. Got her her very first pair of clarks crawling shoes the other day - they are adorable!

SmudgeMum · 30/10/2007 12:02

It sounds like the bugs are doing the rounds. We've managed to stay fairly healthy so far but not sure how. FFT that sounds really tough - waking in the night is bad enough even if you don't have to function in a work sense the next day. Glad things have got back to normal a bit. I hope DH job improves because it puts a real downer on things when you don't enjoy your job
Yelnats I think I've got a bit of a wild one too. He's pulled the leaves off a plant and started eating the soil and is starting to crawl realllllly fast now. Heck we need to fasten the books in the bookcase before he pulls them all on top of himself (more worried about him than the books as some of them are quite heavy)
Don't shout at me (Smudgemum whispers this bit.... has anyone thought about Ch**mas yet?) I was thinking of just wrapping up some of the toys we've been given by DS cousins but not sure if I'll be able to resist. Help me be strong as I know he'll prefer the wrapping paper

MoosMa · 30/10/2007 16:59

I have been thinking about it smudgemum, DD1 is going to buy DD2 a baby to stop her playing with hers!

We've had a strange (I think) bug here, DD1 had one big episode of diarrhoea (all over my friend's carpet when we were visiting her brand new DS ) last thursday and DD2 has done one big eruption today, but they haven't been ill as such.

DD2 still can't crawl properly, she just does her lopsided shuffle which is very amusing to watch!

peachygirl · 30/10/2007 21:47

Hi I've been thinking about christmas a bt too. I really want to be organised this year, presents bought nice and early etc but It will probably be a last dash again. I did buy DD a christmas outfit today. A lesson learnt from scornfully dissmissing the halloween sleepsuits in september only to find none left in the last two weeks.
these and these I thought she would get wear out of them in december and January. They had boys versions too.
Back to work tomorrow after the hols I've just done five pages of planning!

babydriver · 30/10/2007 22:30

Hi folks, back again after half term, which was eventful in different ways than we'd planned. We were supposed to be staying with parents in law en route to my dad & stepmum's 25th wedding anniv bash. But DS2 decided to pick up his cousin's cold and ended up in the hospital with breathing difficulties so had to have a nebulizer & oxygen which was a bit scary. He's doing much better now, but we missed the party and all of us have colds now too.

Sorry to hear other babes have also been unwell - not a good time it seems.

Thinking about Christmas, but that so far seems to involve a monster pile of catalogues adding to the clutter in our living room. I expect I'll be ordering everything at the last minute as usual.

Happy Halloween for tomorrow!

SmudgeMum · 31/10/2007 21:18

Glad I'm not the only one starting to think about Christmas - note that's just the thinking, not actually doing! Thanks for reminding me Moosma, that I was going to suggest a doll as a present for DS as he loved playing with one at a friends house - well sucking her head anyway. Peachygirl those outfits are very cute and you're right that you should get lots of wear out of them. We've got some very cute red trousers that look quite Christmassy. Babydriver that sounds scary about DS2. Glad he's out of hospital and hope that the colds soon get better.

Was going to start an AIBU thread but have decided to complain here instead..... I bought some chocolates, carved a pumpkin and put it in our window and guess how many trick or treaters we got?

Yep that's right. Diddly squat so guess who's going to have to eat all the chocolates now? I think the young children of today just aren't committed enough

MoosMa · 31/10/2007 21:54

Ooh, T does that too, she sucks her forehead and blows raspberries on it. She likes to do that on my face too, bleugh!

DontCallMeYummy · 31/10/2007 21:57

I had two babies today - was looking after a one year old for a friend who actually weighs less than DCMMY - 16lb to his 20lb. And she's so delicate, slim little legs and piano-playing fingers. Her Mum taught her to do 'Eskimo Kisses' and I tried the same with DCMMY only he got over-excited and nutted me on the nose.

I'm sat here now working my way through a fruitbowl full of Cadbury's Heroes. I panicked when the first lot of Trick or Treaters grabbed huge handfuls of sweets and started rationing them to 3 each, then it tailed off so I'm left with no one to treat except myself. Actually I think we should all send our un-trick-or-treated chocolates to Babydriver to help her recover from her stressful weekend - hope Baby Babydriver is feeling better now.

SmudgeMum · 01/11/2007 10:37

Good idea DCMY - chocolates on the way Babydriver! Jealous that you had any trick or treators though! I get sloppy raspberry kisses too Moosma. Are eskimo kisses when you rub noses? DS thinks that's hilarious but then he tries to kiss/bite my nose! He still hasn't got any teeth (9 months in 4 days) but once he has I definitely won't be encouraging the biting.

peachygirl · 02/11/2007 19:51

Hi all
nothing much to report here. Hope your DS2 is feeling better babydriver.. and the rest of you aren't too sniffly

peachygirl · 02/11/2007 19:52

Whoop forgot Welcome back Daizydoo. I know just what that unpacking is like.

suzi2 · 02/11/2007 21:08

Hello everyone. Not much to report here. DH is away with work again as of sunday and I'm dreading doing the bedtimes and night shifts all by myself. But it's only a week this time at least.

DD is sporting two bruises on her forehead today. She keeps pulling up against things that aren't designed for that and falling over. First of many I'm sure! And I'm sure she'll learn about the stability of objects soon

babydriver · 02/11/2007 23:04

Hi, thanks for the choccies - much appreciated as there were loads of trick or treaters this year so we didn't get left with any to snaffle ourselves!

DS2 much better now, with only a little sniffle. Also has bruises on his forehead like suzi2's LO, and learning how to kiss - either sloppy open mouthed, or by biting my chin - not so nice as he's got 5 teeth now!

Other news to report is that we've taken the big step of moving him into his own room tonight (and DS1 into a new room too). All quiet so far. And tomorrow is DS1's 4th birthday, so lots of excitement all round I expect.

Bye for now!

suzi2 · 04/11/2007 15:14

We're seriously quiet on here! Let's start some conversation...

What's been your best and worst baby buys? What do you wish someone had told you about having children? What's the best thing on TV at the moment?

Best buy for me, used both times, has been a fleece changing mat with waterproof underside. it's been used a s a buggy liner, changing mat, playmat, bib, blanket! Worst buy would probably be the top & tail bowl or bumbo. Bumbo was 2nd hand which I'm glad about as DD has rarely managed to stay in it!

I wish someone had told me that you get used to luke warm food and cold tea very quickly!

Best thing on TV is Prison Break.

Your turn!

OP posts:
marmitemad · 04/11/2007 19:34

best baby buy = bumbo & tray (ebay) & electric swing seat although that was a present
worst = v shaped feeding pillow

I got very attached when breastfeeding to those househunting programs on bbc1 in the morning and neighbours/doctors/escape to the country in the afternoon .

I went back to work on Monday with a stinking cold but had a very easy week and dd seems to have coped well.

marmitemad · 04/11/2007 19:35

oh yes forgot the top and tail bowl which was used once

MoosMa · 04/11/2007 20:48

My best buy was the bouncy chair, we used it loads with both DDs because of their reflux. The Phil and Ted has to be another, I've seen so many people struggling with the other ones we could have got and feel so relieved!

The worst has to be the shoes I bought her last week. She's worn them once, since that one morning they will NOT stay on .

There's so much good telly at the moment but I can't think of one of the 12 or so things I've got on series link...

peachygirl · 04/11/2007 20:49

One of my best buys was the mirror in the car which allows me to dee DD. I drive a lot alone and it has been very handy.
We have also used our bumbo loads, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. DD has just discovered how to get out of it, arching her back and rolling.
At the moment worst buy would be the door bouncer. We got it a bit too late and DD really screamed when I put her in it today.

TV - I probably watch far too much.[shame] I LOVE Kath and Kim, the third series has just finished. Also like Medium, Studio 60 on the sunset strip, My name is Earl, Scrubs and Ugly Betty.

peachygirl · 04/11/2007 20:50

see [shame]

suzi2 · 04/11/2007 21:31

what shoes were they moosma? I'm having a big problem keeping DDs feet covered at the moment! Tights can make her eczema itchy and socks (even baby gap ones!) just get pulled off. So I thought I'd get cruisers from startrite for her, but she's not even a size 1 and they start in a 2. Then I tried a few pairs of M&S and next pram shoes and any that will keep her socks on, won't fasten over her chubby feet and ankles as she has to wear 3-6 months (at most!). Bought her some shoo shoos which are gorgeous, but she was on the cusp of sizes so went for the 6-12 months which are truly massive and she won't be in until she's about 2! And then bought things called 'sock ons' which kept her socks on for about 5 mins longer than usual and then unravelled, so they've been returned! [sigh]

OP posts:
MoosMa · 04/11/2007 21:43

Luckily they were cheapy boots from Woolworths, otherwise I'd be really annoyed! T has very chubby calves too which meant that as soon as I did them up they popped off!

DD1 used to have some shoo shoos which I safety pinned to the bottoms of her trousers to stop them getting lost!

MoosMa · 04/11/2007 21:49

I did see someone with the same boots on the other day, they were sitting in an Asda trolley and they looked very secure, I was most ! If you'd like to try them I'll send them to you, you never know they might fit. They're size 'up to 12 months' so they may fit her legs, even if they're huge on her feet?

Here they are

And while you're there, everybody have a look at this picture, it cracks me up every time I see it!

peachygirl · 04/11/2007 23:12

I've got some shoo shoos for DD 6 - 12 months and I agree they are HUGE .. DD looks like Krusty the clown! but they seem to stay on DD's feet better than a pair of little pull on shoes I got from mothercare.
I think the shoo shoos are higher at the on the heel. They don't look that bad.

SmudgeMum · 05/11/2007 12:19

Oh the big shoe problem!!! We have loads of shoes to choose from as been handed everything from SIL and her 3. I still couldn't get any of the pram shoes to stay on though! Bought some for about £3 in Asda that were working quite well apart from DS has worked out how to undo the velcro! Having problems with socks too though, I just think he's the wrong size - they're either huge or tiny!

Anyway, good idea for chat Suzi2:
Best buy: our second hand travel combo which we still love evern though most of our friends have switched to little buggies now. Baby bjorn (active) which we still use
Worst buy: have to confess that we haven't really bought much as given most things. Didn't get much use out of the 3 snow suits we had for 0-3 months!!!

Watching on TV: yes the house hunting programmes. Apart from that I seem to be on MN and BLW site more than watching TV.

Anyone moved to next size car seat yet? I think we're about to but not sure whether to do it first for a long journey: novelty value will keep him occupied for more of the journey before he's had enough, or short journey: in case he hates it.What do you think?

SmudgeMum · 05/11/2007 12:19

pS Moosma, that picture is ACE!!!
