I'm still here, lurking mostly as somebody always seems to need something just when I sit down to type...

marmitemad · 20/10/2007 17:06

went to baby show yesterday - got blisters on my toes and still too tired to even think.

peachygirl · 20/10/2007 18:40

I'm about too, Really glad it's half term although DD seems to be suffereing with teething again.

babydriver · 20/10/2007 21:45

we're about too, but just not much to report.

peachygirl · 22/10/2007 20:32

Hi all Baby driver was it you asking about Jars? DD has recently enjoyed two Hipp ones, cheesey pasta and Tomato and mozerella spaghtti.

I found out today I am the last person in my antenatal group still to be BFing. I feel quietly proud of myself and of DD too

peachygirl · 24/10/2007 20:23

where is everyone??

suzi2 · 24/10/2007 20:32

sorry, I'm lurking but I keep forgetting to post. DD still a horrid sleeper... every sleep is a fight and then all night she's unsettled and up and down and then awake for 2 hour stints. We're coping, but just wondering when we're going to get a break. Tried absolutely everything, even gave CC a proper bash for 4 days but no improvement at all.

She's a real character though. She's still preferring to commando crawl but can do a proper crawl. No idea why she chooses to do it the hard way - she grunts a lot doing it. She also bear crawls a little then works her hands in closer to her feet and tries to stand. the result is she just flops back on her bum! She's pulled up to standing a few times and today she was cruising the outside of her cot when I left her for 2 mins. Waves bye bye and actually says "ba ba". We thought we were hearing things - DS didn't say that until 18 months. But she's consistent with it and uses it when waving so I suppose it's bye bye.

I remember fondly that DS at this age would still be sitting in the same spot I left him and didn't roll and wriggle away when i tried to change his nappy.

Oh Suzi2 - sorry you're still having it bad with the sleeping. I was going to say maybe when she gets more active but it sounds like she's away. Very impressed with the waving and saying bye bye. DS will sometimes wave but not on cue really apart from to Daddy. He does say mamamamamamamamamamamam (can you tell it's starting to grate!) though.
I thought we had a breakthrough as he slept through two nights in a row but woke last night again so might have been a fluke. He's starting to not want to have a sleep in the morning though. It's just taken him an hour to go to sleep. He wasn't crying, just whinging and talking to his teddies even though he's shattered.
Well done on the BF peachygirl. We're still going too and don't have any plans to stop particularly but I might start to give him a bit of formula if I want to go out at bedtime. I'm so rubbish at expressing that I'm tending not to go out rather than have to faff with that and then DH has to fight to get him to take the bottle anyway. Starting to feel a bit like a hermit!

DontCallMeYummy · 25/10/2007 12:38

Hello Ladies...
I finally have the internet at home! Real internet too, not stolen from the wi-fi neighbours!
Thanks for your email Peachy, we're both fine now though DCMMY is recovering from a nasty bout of gastroentritis which we reckon he picked up at the Baby Show after playing in the Other People's Children-infested soft-play areas and chewing everything in sight. So I've been holed up at home recreating the Exorcist as sponsored by Pampers and doing enough 90 degree boil-washing to give me the carbon footprint of the Abominable Snowman.

marmitemad · 25/10/2007 13:58

our big news is proper clapping here, very cute but poor dd has been quite sick since last night, twice in the cot which led to bed stripping and baths. we called nhs direct as she was very drowsy and clammy but nurse said probably just a virus. she took milk and porridge this morning but has just projectile vomited everywhere in Robert Dyas, drs are going to ring me back later .

marmitemad · 25/10/2007 13:58

welcome back DCMY

peachygirl · 25/10/2007 19:14

Welcome back DCMY.
Sorry to hear about the poorly babies. Sand D is a nightmare .
On the sleep frontwe have had two nights of sleeping through too here.
DD had her first chip yesterday and a taste of an orange today.
I went to a sling meet on tuesday, which was V interesting I tried a Joey sling (mei tie style) and an ergo for back carries both were good.

SmudgeMum · 25/10/2007 21:13

Hi DCMY - glad you're back on line. How confusing is the new look set up. I think I'll have to do a bit of playing around to get it back to something I can understand. I just had a quick peek at the due Feb 08 thread and there are thousands of them - and 4 or 5 sets of twins I think!!!! I can't believe it's been nearly 9 months.
Hope all poorly babies are better soon - did the GP phone you back Marmitemad?

marmitemad · 25/10/2007 21:26

gp phoned and was rubbish, didn't ask me any questions like nhs direct and basically just said its a virus (which I already know is probable but didn't feel reassured at all by his manner).

no more vomit here although still pretty unhappy but dd managed to eat 2 slices toast for tea and most of her milk. We sat on the sofa all afternoon, read a few books and watched mary poppins which dd was dancing and clapping to.

Sallyallyally · 26/10/2007 11:33

Hello....if you click on 'customise talk board' and select classic then it all goes back to the reassuringly familiar format
We still haven't sussed sleeping. Henry wakes up anywhere between 5 and 12 times a night depending on whether there is an r in the month, a full moon or frosties in the house! i.e no rhyme or reason....and he nearly always gets b/f back to sleep...and he always ends up in the bed with us!!! DD was exactly the same and we tried 2 weeks of controlled crying, pick up put down, patting, singing, ignoring and pleading and it made not the slightest difference. Teeth, growing, colds etc all played a part of course...but in the end we all snuggled in together and reminded ourselves that it would pass...which it did! It got gradually better and better until when she was 3 she went happily into her own room and slept through..no messing...without any input or 'training' from us.Hang in there...some babies sleep and some don't. The end!
Anyone started Christmas shopping yet?

Sallyallyally · 26/10/2007 11:34

Hope all poorly babies are on the mend. Any news?

DontCallMeYummy · 26/10/2007 11:51

My GP was rubbish too - the day after the emergency doctor came out DCMMY started refusing all food and milk so I called the GPs and asked to speak to a doctor. The receptionist put me on hold, cut me off, put me supposedly through to the dr's office and then had to retrieve me 10 mins later when she realised he was out for lunch and said he'd call back. 2 hours later I called again and there was no record of my call. We went there which I didn't want to do and waited 45 mins to see a dr who said all seemed well and just to give him the diorlyte (sp?) sachets to restore all the stuff he'd lost and to come back in a week if he's still ill.
Marmitemad I think the Baby Show was diseased. At least I got to meet Bringing Up Baby's Continuum Expert Claire Scott and tell her that I was cheering her on during her battles with that arctic maternity nurse, esp on the subject of breastfeeding in public. I think that night I neglected to put DCMMY to bed at a decent hour as I was too busy throwing cushions at the telly.

DontCallMeYummy · 26/10/2007 11:58

Oh, forgot to mention, as part of my New Mum Rock n Roll lifestyle I am taking a stool sample to the GPs today as DCMMY is still ill after 5 days. Only I'm not doing the scrape-it-into-a-container thing, I'm going to take the whole nappy to the surgery. I may hand it directly to the receptionist who left me hanging on the end of my phone whilst my toxic-bummed baby howled in the background.

marmitemad · 26/10/2007 12:34

DCMY,
good luck with the sample/nappy delivering. we had to take a poo sample in a bottle a couple of weeks ago, not pleasant.

what day did you go to the baby show? we went on Friday but am very that you got to meet claire scott.

DontCallMeYummy · 26/10/2007 16:54

I was there Friday too... She was just there on the Close baby-carrier stand (her business). She was really nice and genuinely pleased to hear that other people thought like her. She said she'd been nervous as she'd really put herself out there by appearing on the show. When I mentioned how I was shouting support at the telly when they had the breastfeeding-in-public debate she told me she was surprised that Dreena (Dr Spock) was so against the idea. She was also a bit miffed that they spent so little time with the Continuum parents in favour of the get-the-kids-in-a-routine-sharpish-so-we-can-have-a-party/sit-in-front-of-x-factor-with-a-bottle-of- lambrusco parents. My words not hers may I add. Ooooh you can see how things get all heated on these message boards. Steer away from Big Opinions DCMY, back to lighter topics such as... how the fing receptionist wouldn't let me see the doctor with my special little parcel and sent me packing with a jar to bring back on Monday. Monday! And breathe... all the way into a smiley Halloween hat...

peachygirl · 26/10/2007 21:48

Hi all,
Bit jealous of you DCMY meeting claire scott (just mentioned this to DH and he's just asked if she was playing with sharp knives
I was shouting at the screen too at the Bfeeding bit and watching the prog has given me renewed love of my coorie sling which I have been using quite a bit this half term.
A nice day for us One of my colleages Daughter cane to visit (a young lady [14] with SEN) she loves Maya and we have a great time chatting. She was very keen to wake her up during a nap this morning I had quite a job to persuade her otherwise and I had my hair cut this afternoon

DontCallMeYummy · 27/10/2007 20:46

Don't be silly Peachy of course she wasn't playing with sharp knives. She had a six month old on the stand to do that for her.

peachygirl · 27/10/2007 21:15

LOL DCMY

daizydoo · 28/10/2007 11:46

Hi,hope all sick babies are getting better.
Finally I've found time to post - the move went ok, but trying to decorate & unpack with an increasingly mobile child has been a nightmare. Someone has had to keep an eye on DS to make sure he's not up to mischief!! He's now crawling along at pace and standing up at every given opportunity. This has resulted in several bruises, but that doesn't deter him! Given the opportunity I'm sure he'd give the stairs a shot too!

I've found commuting to work and being away from DH &DH a bit much. It might only be 1 night & 2 days but it takes forever! Thankfully I'm leaving in 2 weeks. I'm still expressing at work, so when I come home I do feel abit like a milk tanker carrying all my bottles of milk. I've half wondered to myself what would I protect 1st if someone tried to rob me - my handbag or my milk. Scary but I think the milk might win!!!!!
Anyhow DH has a cold so is shouting orders from the couch, so go to go...

forgottenfreetime · 29/10/2007 20:39

Hi So sorry I've not been posting. Well done with the move Daisy, big admiration for you taking that on with a little one. I have tried to keep up witht the thread but we have had a rotten 3 weeks. Just tired out after going back to work and DD deciding after sleeping through to go back to waking up 2-3 times a night again, probably due to chest infection and teething. I've also had 3 lots of antibiotics for a urine infection and chest infection. In the end we tried just leaving her to cry but it got ridiculous so I was probably making it worse cos in the end I bf her! DH has been really down with work and tired himself so we have found it a really hard few weeks. Still DD seems to be sleeping through again now and our childcare is now back up top full strength so hopefully things will be getting better!
