Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

GillL - I think I have had my comeuppance on themilk thing..... Evie drank me dry today - literally - and I had to go out and buy a couple of cartons of milk. We only had one bottle, which got well boiled (no sterilizer either). She took 3 oz and fell asleep.....!! She'd been gnawing at everything that moved for 4 hours! Not sure if she was really that starved, but it certainly seemed to do the trick for her!

DH helpfully said - can't we just leave her to cry until your milk fills up again?!

GillL · 29/08/2007 13:03

Lol.

Bought Alex some tiny baby clothes yesterday in the sale at Mothercare. All the newborn stuff just drowns him. I think he's quite long cos newborn baby grows only just fit him in length but he's skinny like his sister. I'll upload a picture soon.

The health visitor's coming round today. Will be interesting to see how much weight he's put on. Also, the midwife measured him the same as his sister who was in tiny baby babygrows for ages so that doesn't really make sense. I don't think it's very accurate the way the midwives measure them though.

I wish this headache would go. I know it's because I'm not getting enough sleep. I'm still doing all the night feeds (even though Alex is being bottle fed). I don't really mind as long as dh helps out when I need him to. He helped get him back to sleep after his 3am feed last night as he was still awake an hour later and dd had already woken me up at 1am so I couldn't keep my eyes open.

loler · 29/08/2007 15:21

Hello everyone - can officially join this thread - Euan George made a very quick arrival yesterday birth announcement here

Everything going well at the moment (not looking forward to the cracked nipples!), will be back on looking for tips in the near future!

tokentotty · 29/08/2007 18:51

Hooray, hooray for everyone here !!!! Toooooooo many to list but am so very pleased for all. Unfortunately I'm struggling to download pics of Peanut but will attempt to suss it out soon. Am still totally besotted with the little fella and he's an absolute angel. We feed 4 hourly through the day and then he sleeps from about 11.30pm until 4.30/5 and then I just grab him out of his pram, lie him on my chest and DH ends up waking us both up at 6am for his feed. I stuff him with milk, we all move downstairs so I don't have to carry anything about and then I sleep on the sofa until DH phones to wake me up at about 9.45 to get myself ready for round 2 at 10am. Made my first solo trip out today to the bottom of the road and back to book a hair appt for Saturday. thought a bit of a tidy up and treat was in order and we're going to a wedding on Sunday. Think it's gonna have to be my black wrapover maternity dress with red shoes/jewellery to wear though in a vain attempt to hide the post baby belly... I know black isn't the usual for a summer wedding but hopefully the red will stop me looking too funereal ??

God I can witter when I get the chance...

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT!

Kiteflying had her little girl on Sunday afternoon, 7lb 11oz. She says it wasn't the gentle birth she'd hoped for but she got her out safely and that's all that matters! They've not decided on Isabel or Isabella yet.

She doesn't have internet access at the mo but I'm sure she'll be on soon to tell you all the full story.

divamum2two · 29/08/2007 22:50

congratulations to flyingkite and loler quick lurk before bed

bananabump · 30/08/2007 09:36

woohoo, kiteflying and loler WELL DONE!

James is such a joker...he led me a merry dance last night! He filled his nappy so I went to change him in the semi darkness, then as I was in the middle of it, he suddenly twisted and had a mad few seconds kicking his legs like a frog, covering himself in poo!

Then as I grabbed the babywipes and tried to contain the incident, he was sick on his babygrow and vest, so had to start stripping him off, then to add insult to injury, as I finally got him naked and clean all over, he weed everywhere all over my side of the bed! gaaah lol

He's now in 0-3 month babygrows because he's so long, but he's still really skinny since he lost quite a lot of weight after the birth. All my beautiful newborn babygrows, already defunct! sob...

CONGRAT"S TO KITEFLYING- WELCOME BABY

BB- we have had some projetile poo here

In fact last night baby spew and wee all night resulted in 6 wraps and 3 suits and singlets being used. wash wash today.

Anyone mind if i tell you all more about my rotten day last night had major and i mean major bleed with clots, so went to emergency. I have now been put on antibiotics as it could be infection of uterus, or left products, so now wait and see what happens. this morning at dr's i asked about lump in my breast, and he said yes definate lump, not milk duct, so now have to wait 2 weeks for ultrasound to find out what it is. 'm trying not to think of the worst, but just feel so dam scared. Anyone else experiencing any thing weird, why can't i be normal?

Other than that LL's infection has cleared up and he is off antibiotics and is still feeding like mad.

itchyncsratchy · 30/08/2007 11:35

Hi everyone,

very lovely to hear kiteflying's lo arrived too.. but I'm not sure she'll see any mesages here.

banana and trinaj if you're around I'm wondering how your evening sessions are going. Mila is still doing the 'feed/ sleep/ wake up screaming' for a few hours in the evening. I'm looking for tips if you have any

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 30/08/2007 11:56

Just a quick drop in to say hi and Congratulations to all the New Mummy's!

tate is doing well, had a bad night with Wind last night, anyone have any good tips, he is being bottle fed and i know that they can be more prone to wind but ANY ANY advice would be muched welcomed for tonight!

Hope everyone else and there babies are well

conkertree · 30/08/2007 12:29

hi everyone. have set up camp at my parents while dh is in zambia. 4 hour train journey yesterday - lo slept all the way - think he must have liked the motion.

he was doing quite a lot of screamy crying last night which i assumed was him not quite sure why things were different but then had quite a calm night - fed at 11 then went down quite easily for a change which was nice, and then fed for an hour at 2-3, again at 5 and 6 but just for wee short feeds. Each time I woke up with him moving about and making wee noises, so got to him before he really started crying, and that seemed to make it easier to get him back to sleep afterwards. Still had the creeping back under the covers as quietly as possible but all in all not a bad night.

the long train journey with no feeds meant i was really sore by the time he arrived - it does seem odd that they can be so sore and hard one minute but it doesnt take long to fee completely drained and not know if they are getting much milk if they go on to cluster feed.

anyway - am quite enjoying the bfeeding now particularly when we have calm nights like last night. was difficult not having dh there but its only 3 weeks

conkertree · 30/08/2007 12:30

sorry - meant also to say congratulations to all the new mums and their babies

bananabump · 30/08/2007 12:34

god Uki, scary stuff, I hope you're ok!

itchy, it might be my imagination but James seems to be a bit better than he was with his feeding habits. He still has a difficult time now and then where he doesn't seem happy despite me feeding him for ages, but I've stopped stressing about it. No advice though because I'm topping up with formula (more important that he starts putting on some weight!)

Basically when he's been feeding off me for hours and won't take a dummy so he's obviously still hungry I just give him about 30ml of formula which fills him up and lets him nap for an hour or so while I get a bit of rest/do housework, then we can go back to more normal feeds. I don't need to do this every day, sometimes he's ok. Also I'm feeding him at about 11pm then topping up with about 60ml formula so we get 4 hours solid sleep til the next breastfeed. (getting the amount right was tricky, I'm not comfortable with him sleeping for 5 or 6 hours, he wakes up soaked in sweat, seems odd to me)

But apart from the one or two topups a day we're still feeding okay, I think my supply is getting better since eating porridge every morning and drinking plenty. I woke up with frankly ginormous boobs today anyway! just wish they were as productive later in the day!

Just ordered some more milk plus which is supposed to help increase your supply, so hopefully we can get rid of the formula

Pink are you giving Tate infacol before each feed? I found it helped James's wind a lot. I'm crap at winding him, but the trick seems to be perseverence, I sit him up afer each feed, usually pop him on his tummy against my chest and rub his back. One tip I heard was to hold baby upright over your shoulder and march up and down the stairs til they bring up the wind. Hope this helps!

my2weegirls · 30/08/2007 12:44

congrats loler and kiteflying!

uki - poor you, having clots and lumps to deal with. remember that the majority of breast lumps are cysts/benign ans are not anything sinister. i know it's easy for me to say but try not to worry too much and concentrate on looking after yourself and your LO

my LO is currentlty eating for scotland she's also outgrown the newborn size and some 0-3mth clothes (tho i may have shrunk them in the wash )

take care everyone

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 30/08/2007 18:51

Thanks bb, am using infacol at every feed, also noticed that he suffers from wind after just a few mouthfuls so we wind after a few mouthfuls, so it isnt like he is gulping loads either! Just sent Dh down to Sainsburys to try some different teats as i remember ds had bad wind, changed bottles and teats to Avent and seemed fine, using tommy tippe at mo but will try anything as we are all struggling a bit with this!

Have a nice time at your parent conker, bet they will dote after him!!

Im off to stick some cabbage down my bra as boobs are burning hot! Great sore boobs, sore minnie!

GillL · 30/08/2007 20:42

Congratulations loler and kite. Glad you're doing well TT. Hope you're recovering nicely from the cs.

Pink - have you tried MAM bottles. The teat is much wider than normal teats and is supposed to be like breastfeeding. Dd used these from the beginning and never really suffered with wind. The anti-colic bit is so good that she could down 10oz without stopping. She breathed through her nose like with bf because air comes through the bottom of the bottle to keep the flow going. Ds is using these now and doesn't get much wind either. They're a bit of a pain to wash as there are quite a few parts. May be worth a go if it doesn't improve with the new teats.

Banana - I have a similar problem with clothes. Alex's feet are right at the end of newborn babygrows but he is thin. He'll be in 0-3 babygrows soon but tiny baby tops and shorts fit him perfectly.

Health visitor vist went well yesterday. No problems or concerns. Alex has put on 13oz in 9 days! He also measures 3cm longer than when he was measured at birth but I'm sure that's because they use a different, less accurate way to measure them.

divamum2two · 30/08/2007 21:50

Good god GiLL, im sure the measurements were wrong somehwere, my little man put 3oz on in 5 days, we thought that was lots.
Btw, Connor has gor very very dry skin, and it flaky, i dont know what to put on. We tried Avent and Johnson, seems doing nothing really. I dont know if its normal. I dont think dd had this dry skin. Its really bad on his arms and legs.
I think i will try cabbage leaves,too
as im having sore boobs too.

bananabump · 30/08/2007 22:04

divamum, James had some dry skin (still does a bit) I've been putting on a bit of e45 cream on after his bath/facewash. The midwife bathed him using copious amounts of johnsons no tears baby shampoo on his skin, which really really dried him out (johnsons products play havoc with my skin too) so I'm not using them on him anymore. They do say the best thing to use for baby massage/moisturiser on a babys skin is olive oil. Maybe you could try a little of that?

I bought in a savoy cabbage anticipating sore boobs, in the end I got one sore boob, and just kept putting J on it and massaging it gently until it wasn't hard/tender anymore. Forgot all about the cabbage and put it in a soup instead!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 30/08/2007 23:03

Hi sorry I haven't been on AGAIN, hoping once DS's go back to school next week I'll have abit more time for ME (for MN ) but as it is I'm busy busy busy, Connie is now on 6oz of milk every 3-4 hours and sleeping a bit more now But she is a little fat sod, bless, DS's are all over her all day, they keep her entertained as she loves to be talked to and she's started smiling, . As for me still fighting my emotions at the moment feel very teary still, we went to Notts at the weekend and I almost burst into tears in the town center over what I'm not really sure. My mother came round at the weekend all was fine, we were very nice to one another she has even invited me to her wedding next may she ended up having my boys from Saturday dinner till Tuesday night which was nice but the longest I've ever been away from my boys, and guess what I'm still alive , My mother loves Connie to bits (And think she's looks just like me at this age) she knitted loads of stuff for her, which are beautiful, I've put my order in for more . I've put some more pic's on, anyway got to go and get ready for bed hoping to get a few good hours sleep tonight we'll see!

Hope everyone is fine and well, Babymadxx

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 31/08/2007 07:39

Well seems the new teats worked! Woke up at 11.30 and then 3 and then 6 so that was fab and you can see such a change in him, went straight back to sleep afterwards as where before he whinged for at least 30 mins!

My boobs are Soooo sore and Huge!!!! anyone that's not breast-feeding when did they get better!!

With regards to dry skin i found the best thing is olive oil! I used this with ds as he was so dry and used to shed skin wherever we went and Tate also has dry hands and feet and its working wonders! Just rub a little in and when on there hands make sure you put mits on so they dont put it in there mouth ( midwife has also told me this is the best/natural way)

tokentotty · 31/08/2007 08:51

Hey Pink, lovely having you over here on the post natal board!! Am another olive oil user. Paddy has a morning and evening massage with the stuff and his skin is lovely with it. Think it also helps that I don't use any other products as they all just strip the natural oils from their skin so it's warm water for a nappy change and when topping and tailing him and then he only has a bath twice a week when I use a little bit of Simple soap and nothing else. Smooth as the proverbial !!

growingbagpuss · 31/08/2007 08:53

crikey - for new mums you lot can talk for england! hardly time to type now I've caught up!

Mastitis cleared up (phew that was nasty), but still struggling to keep up with madams demands (!!) - me of the great advice.... do I have a pump (NO!!). so every other day (for some reason the day in between is ok for supply) she's getting formula in the evening to get her of to sleep. last night though she took 3 oz, then vomited the whole lot back up in her car seat (where I'd dumped her to TRY and cook some tea at 8.45pm) (DH was out, what a suprise). She took the same amount again afer I'd finished sobbing at her, then slept til 2.00, then 5 for a quick slurp and woke at 6.15 for a good long feed.

I have the sme clothes problem - frequently get her half way into a babygro to find it won't reach her neck, or the feet are too small. aaaargh!

I had a clothes exchanging fest on weds - swapped 3 of our presents for less pink and fluffies. Even DH looked at some of the dresses and jsut said, "no, swap them, no-one will ever know!!"

ah, just noticed time. window of baby free time running out I think, so best get on. taraaaaaa for now..

Uki · 31/08/2007 09:51

Thanks BB and my2weegirls.- i'm trying my best not to worry. Feeling a little better now that i've got a private scan on monday, there's no way i could wait 2 weeks to see if i have cancer or not. although not sure i want to know at all.

my2wee- i hope you r right and is just cyst, i've honestly only heard the opposite though, so good to hear.

Glad to hear all our Augies are growing so well

GillL · 31/08/2007 11:20

Diva - my midwife said olive oil is best for dry skin as it doesn't contain any chemicals.

Glad you had a good meeting with your mum babymad. I thought Alex was hungry having 4oz every 2-3 hours, sometimes he asks for more after just an hour.

Pink - glad you had a better night. I gave up breastfeeding on Sunday morning. My boobs were very sore for a couple of days but they are much better now. They still hurt a bit, especially when Alex cries but I'm hoping that will be over in a couple of days.

Managed to get loads done this morning whle Alex slept. Even managed to palm dd of to the girl next door to play with her dd - luxury!

Forgot to mention that he did a poo on me while the health visitor was here the other day. It squirted out the side of his nappy onto my hand, top and trousers. I was quite embarrassed. Then last night he weed on me.

Bagpuss - I've got an electric Medela Swing pump that I'm going to sell along with 6 containers. I think it's worth about £100. CAT me if you're interested. Obviously I wouldn't want full price as it's been used (although only a handful of times). It's all cleaned and sterilised.

growingbagpuss · 31/08/2007 12:30

thanks for the offer of first dibs GillL, but I think I'm going to just give her the formula top up - its a lot of hassle for everynow and then to use a pump and i'm hoping this is a growth spurt, or a temporary glitch in our smooth feeding (ha ha ha)

Uki - best of luck - can't imagine how you feel, all good vibes to you. xxx
