Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

Thanks stretchmarks, it's always nice to hear that his behaviour is normal and I'm not doing anything "wrong"!

I did ring the NCT back, got through to a much more helpful lady who gave me some good advice so they did good in the end!

Haven't had chance to read thread but hope everyone is ok. I have just posted my birth announcement if anyone is interested. Short version is that Jake Elliot was born on 16th August by emergency section at 3.20pm weighing 9lb 10oz.

I only came home last Wednesday due to an infection but we are quickly getting settled at home and I am getting more mobile each day. Jake had his first outing in the pram yesterday - slept through it entirely , but then a walk to our local Tesco isn't that exciting.

Feeding is going well but I do feel like I haven't slept for a month. DH is back at work on Monday; he is being fantastic and I am a bit nervous about how I will cope without him. Luckily his hours mean that he will be home at lunchtime.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone soon

augustmum · 27/08/2007 07:49

Have changed name now - it was our 1st anniversary on the 12th so quite a while since I was an August bride.

itchyncsratchy · 27/08/2007 08:40

hi,

banana - we've been having same problems feeding at night. from 10 or 11pm our little angel turns into a squawker, feeds for 5 or 10 mins falls asleep and wakes up after 5 or 10 mins in own bed.

I'm convinced it's wind too, it seems harder to get it out at night. so i've been changing her between feeds to wake her up enough for longer feeds and trying to wind her enough before putting her into bed

my boobs also seem so empty after all the engorgement before but I'm trusting the more she feeds the more milk I'll produce. also trying to stick at one boob long enough for it to be drained although temptaion is to switch to fuller breast, she does seem to find something there

just wanted to let you know you're not alone with this prob!

Uki · 27/08/2007 12:53

Hi all

a bit quieter here than pre natal thread. we must all be sleep deprived and waiting busily hand and boob on our little ones.

BB- i remember ds being like that too. i used to have to rock him like mad to get to sleep, he hated being put down and constantly feed. LL was like that the first 2 nights till my milk came in, but now is more settled. LL may change again though, that's babies for you. a lot of people think they have a really good baby and then something happens at the three weeks mark, so i'm preparing for that.

babymad - hope meeting with mum went well.

I've been busy making baby cards and thank you cards. think i'm obsessed. LL got quite spoiled over the weekend with gifts, which was nice and non expected being 2nd child.

bananabump · 27/08/2007 13:20

Hello folks

thanks itchy, it's good to know I'm not alone! I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm seeing the health visitor tomorrow so at least she can weigh him and tell me if he's gaining any weight. Fingers crossed.

Congrats on your new arrival augustbride/mum! Hope you're ok after your emergency section, make sure you take it easy as much as possible when your dh goes back to work, the housework isn't worth bothering your scar!

Uki, I don't think there's such a thing as good babies and bad babies, it's probably more a case of calm babies, frustrated babies and hungry babies! And James goes through all of those in a 24 hour period.

I should change my name too really....

Hello ladies!

Baby Tate was Born at Home at 8.24 this morning, weighing in at 8lb 5oz!

Perfect home birth, had Just gas & air and tens - but unfortunately when he came out he ripped (sorry ladies if TMI) one of my 'flaps" as it was covering his head and Just Pinged! So baby fine, but had to go to hospital to be stitched up as needed a local for it ( ouch!) More of "cosmetic then bleeding but was worth it! back home by midday!

Will post full birth story when can sit better

Good Luck ladies!

bananabump · 27/08/2007 15:34

Congrats, pink!!! Love the name Tate, so glad you got your homebirth, what a shame you had to get sewn up at hospital. I hope you can sit more comfortably soon! Witchhazel on a pad can help a bit but if it's as sore as my tear was, accept all pain relief!

OP posts:
stretchmarks · 27/08/2007 16:56

Congratulations Pink really pleased for you. Glad it all went well and you got the homebirth.

itchyncsratchy · 27/08/2007 18:03

well done pink and Tate, wow our thread have chosen fantastic names. Do you have something comfy to sit on? I agree with the pain relief, take everything until you're certain all pain has gone

midwife came again today and advised the feed feed feed approach with intensive winding. she said that baby should feed for upto 30 or 40 mins on one breast and if she was dropping off to sleep should be woken by stripping off and nappy changes and feet tickled etc to keep her on the job.

when I described the late night on off feeding, she tutted and said 'no, no we don't allow late night snacking!' so she made me practise 3 winding positions on a teddy bear reminded me that baby should be put to bed after feed to fall asleep on her own and then spoilt the whole thing by insisiting on inspecting my bum!! Jesus, far too thorough! and she refused to discharge me as she's not pleased with progress of my 'fundis' so will be back the day after tomorrow...

bananabump · 27/08/2007 18:51

Ooh, I'd be interested in hearing those winding positions, itchy. James suffers pretty badly with wind and hates being burped!

Have you been having bad afterpains as you feed your baby? (assuming you're breastfeeding) I had horrible afterpains but the midwife was impressed that my fundus had shrunk back so fast. No pain no gain I spose.

Well I think we have found the secret to a calm and content baby.... a pillow! I was using a brand new squishy pillow to help me feed J this morning, and he's been asleep/sitting happily on it all day. We've moved him from room to room, from his moses basket to the sofa to the pushchair, on his pillow, and he hasn't woken up, he's just far too comfortable! And no, we won't make a habit of it (someone's bound to be along to tell me it's dangerous and wrong and bad for his back) but it's nice to see him so comfortable and snuggly!

Hi all, It took me while to post here as i couldnt work out where you all gone, dizzy days
My baby boy Connor was born 22nd Wednesday after 4 days later his due date. He was 8lbs11oz, and labour was shocking 25minutes.
Everyone including myself shocked, but im glad all done and dusted. Im having and breastfeed failure, no milk and baby wont latch on. So we bottlefeed him, so we did with dd 2 years ago. He is taking bottle very well, and put 2oz since birth. I have terrible pain all over my breast and feels like having two big bag full of stones. MW checked today said normal, and will be fine.
He is feeding every 3-4hours at the moment, and slept from 12.30 till 5 last night, which was lovely. I have only read last a few thread so
BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO pibkranger, and augustbride.
BTW, i changed my name to i was divamumplusbump, now divamum2two
Photo added into my profile,if anyone want see my little man`s first photo.
I will be checking up everyday, and see how is other babies doing. All the best to new babies and happy mummies
xx

Uki · 28/08/2007 04:39

WOW CoNGRAT'S Pink and Tate- I adore that name, wanted it myself

CONGRAT'S to Ichy and Connor - love that name too, smilar name to my ds - Cooper, i've never heard of 25 min birth, you are faster than a speeding train, i want more details.

Uki · 28/08/2007 04:41

Divamum- oops those congat's were for you.

Sorry ichy bit mixed up, glad dd is doing better now.

my2weegirls · 28/08/2007 06:39

congratulations - augustmum, pink and divamum (hope i've not missed anyone). 25min labour sounds great - hope you made it to hospital in time (or did you have a home birth?)

does anyone else have a noisy sleeper? this little one keeps me a awake with snuffling, botton burping, snoring, wriggling, grunting, moaning, squeaking...

DD1 is having a fantastic sleep for her - she's normally up and shouting for me by 6am, but is still sleeping, that's why i'm on here so early and DD2 has just had a feed is sleeping soundly too.

Annie75 · 28/08/2007 08:40

Aw, congratulations, Pink. Sounds like a good birth - well done you and on your little boy .

My2weegirls - yes! Nell makes exactly those noises all night - she sounds like a small woodland creature. It's hilarious - tho it does tend to wake me. She also does it during the day when I put her in her sling.

Hi Banana - Nell gets really bad wind too and burping is such a bore, isn't it? They fall asleep at the breast and are all nice and snuggly and then I feel as though I should wake her to get her wind up or she cries later on. Hope they grow out of it soon... Glad the pillow is helping - sounds like a good plan!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 28/08/2007 09:25

my Little man

conkertree · 28/08/2007 10:48

morning everyone and congratualtions to all those new mums - this is the first chance i've had for days to do more than just read the thread to catch up. lo is sleeping peacefully in his little crib and looking very cute.

sleeping has been very mixed - last couple of nights hyad feeds at 12, 3 and 6 so even if its not a huge amount of time in between, at least its consistent. The thing i found hardest in the first two weeks was not knowing when you got him down whether he would be up again in 5 mins or three hours.

think he has just finished a growth spurt (slightly late if its meant to be around 10 days) as he has been putting on 2oz a day for the last week and a bit. What I dont get is that depsite the weight gain, the health visitor still seems to be suspicious of feeding and keeps asking how long he is latching on for, and is he sucking well etc - if he wasnt, does she really think he would be putting on weight? But the health visitor seems much better than i was expecting - have heard a lot of bad things about them.

dh is off to zambia tomorrow so i am going to my parents and then to purplerabbits house - will hopefully be able to log on while i am away. going in to see people at work on the way to the train tomorrow - am loving introducing people to my lo.

divamum2two · 28/08/2007 10:56

Morning all,
Uki, yes 25min labour was fast but painful. I had contractions started every 20 min at 4 oclock in the morning, got up and get my hospital bag ready, i used www.contractionmaster.com to keep the contraction times, it became every 5min by 7 oclock, so i woke dh and we went hospital. The road wsnt busy, but i felt contractions were getting closer. As soon as MW let us in the ward i urged to push, and he was born in 25min. Only had gas and air, no stitches. It was totally different experience than having dd.
Banana, i do use soft pillow, too. We did with dd,too. I think the babies must love comfort and softness
My2weegirls, my little man does loads of npise too. He sound like an old man sleeping. Must be men thingx

GillL · 28/08/2007 12:01

Hello everyone. Glad to hear about all the latest births. Well done on your home birth pink - I had stitches with dd and couldn't sit down comfortably for a couple of weeks. Are there any regulars left who haven't had their babies yet?

Had a mixed weekend. Bf was going well but I just got really fed up with being stuck to the chair feeding for 2 hours at a time. I got no time with dd or dh, no time to myself and hated not being able to do anything for more than half an hours. So, to cut a long story short, ds is now on formula. We are all so much happier. Dh can help out, dd gets loads more time with me and feeding takes about 10 minutes. I tried expressing but it was taking about 2 hours just to get 3oz so I'm not bothering anymore. It's also good to be able to get ds into a routine. He's feeding about every 3 hours and I wake him if he goes over that time. It means that I get a much better night. He's feeding around 10pm, 3am and 7am and he's finally sleeping in the moses basket. Dh might even be able to sleep in our bed again for the first time in 2 weeks.

Hope everyone's getting lots of rest and eating well. It sounds like you're all doing really well with your breastfeeding. bagpuss - I wish I had as much milk as you. Ds would still be getting the benefit of my milk then.

Off out to do the shopping soon. Will catch up later.

growingbagpuss · 28/08/2007 12:28

GillL -belive me, its a blessing and a curse! We have ad my Sil and her partner for the w/e (thanks to DH's "generosity" in inviting them), so every time I needed to feed, I've had to go upstairs because I end up with muslins stuffed down my bra left right and centre, and a spluttering baby! I have also had mastitis this w/e ..well still have.... spent 2 hours at oncall GP (2 HOURSwith the baby) to get antibiotics and had to feed/ express off the sore side to keep the milk going (OOOWWWWWW -give me childbirth any day!), have been fluey -wearign a wooly cardigan in yesterdayas lovely weather (??!!)

I thnk though, we may have sussed the nigh thing - someone else posted the other day to say about feeding the baby up in the evening - keep them awake etc... well it occured to me last night exactly the same thing, so I poked, changed, tickled, lay her down flat (which she hates) and genreally annoyed her nutil she had had both sides..... and after 45 mins of playing she went down.. abig improvement on the 2 hours every other night! She slept til 1.30, had another big feed, then went til 5.20 which wasn't bad.....

But... she only went down 3/4 hr ago for the FIRST time today!! all she has wanted to do is feed! I'm tired, feel crap, and have 4 days of washing coz I haven't been able to do it with people staying. I was relying on quiet day to sort myself out and snooze later... and DH has just rung to say he's taking the afernoon off work... good oh. should be plased I suppose.

jem1969 · 28/08/2007 13:03

Morning all and congrats on all the birth stories and new babies- just come back from wandering round the shops because Hannah refused to go down this morning and the pram is the only thing that seems to work . Now hope she'll sleep for a bit longer.
Last night not too bad as fed her up with formula at 10 (cannot cope with a hour BF at that time)and then got her off to sleep with a dummy (swore i wouldn't use them but am a bit of a convert now). She then woke at 2.15 and 6.15 although took her ages to get off after the 2.15. Have been wandering around like a zombie today and feeling a bit alone after having DH at home for 4 days. Sister is babysitting tomorrow to see if DH and I can leave the house alone for the fist time! DH has week off next week so goung on a bit of a road trip to parents.
Was at MIL at weekend- does my head in a bit. Hannah will be in her pram making snuffly noises but quite content, MIL will decide she has wind and swoop in to get her and then insist on holding her for the next 2 hours wrapped in about 75 blankets- means well but a tad annoying. I hear noises coming from the pram- better go!

GillL · 28/08/2007 19:03

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well growingbagpuss. Hope you get better soon.

I know what you mean about dummies Jem. We've been using one since Alex was 2 days old. Most of the time he's not interested but if he's really tired then it helps him get to sleep.
