Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

tasha21 · 22/10/2007 20:37

Has anybody started christmas shopping yet

tasha21 · 22/10/2007 23:52

well im off for another sleepless night

my2weegirls · 23/10/2007 10:54

hi tasha - welcome wow 3 children under 3 - how do you cope!!!! hope the hospital can help with keeping milk down -DD1 was 3 weeks early and brought lots of milk back up - partly as she was a hungry wee thing so kept taking more than she needed so we swapped her onto hungry milk. keeping upright for at least 20min ater a feed, raising the head of the moses basket/cot either with books underneath or a pillow, frequent burping so one big burp doesn't bring it all back up.

and yes i've got to admit to having started my xmas shopping last month - i'm about half way through all the things i've to get. though i'm not going to buy DD2 much at all - all DD1s baby toys are up the loft so will just wrap them up (i'm a scrooge!).

DP asked his mum if she would like to come and stay again this xmas - but she has said that she will need to think about it as her dog wouldn't walk on the wooden floors . so i'm a bit p'd off that the dog is coming before her grandchildren (she's the only grandparent that they have)

Gill - have you tried the hungry milk so see if DS goes longer?

mamamila · 23/10/2007 11:17

hello,

Hi Tasha- nice to have someone new with different ezperience. wow 3 under 3 at 21, good on you girl! must be exhausting but a lot of fun.
sorry for your wee boy, he's a lot to cope with being 7 wks prem and having cleft palate. will he have an operation to correct it soon?

I have a 15yr old boy and a 9 wk old girl.

i haven't weighed myself since leaving uk but I think i'm slowly getting smaller. luckily i don't have a full length mirror. i tried to try on my size 10 swimming cozzie today stopped pulling mid thigh before i split it and i used to be size 6/8 as recently as March..

conkertree · 23/10/2007 12:08

morning folks. hi tasha - i have a ds - 11 weeks old today - was 14lb 8oz two weeks ago so he's another chubby boy. is pretty much totally in 3-6 months clothes now.

had a great day yesterday as dh had a day off. got so much done - tidying, shopping, christmas cake made etc. bad nights sleep last night though. never mind.

have been trying to walk to our nearest town as much as possible - its a 4 1/2 mile round trip so I reckon if it becomes a regular part of our week, it'll help the weight loss. need to start running soon too - need to be up to running an hour by christmas so the marathon programme can start after christmas.

not started much shopping yet but have picked out a few things online that i will get at some point.

Uki · 23/10/2007 12:13

Tasha- welcome, hope your new baby catches up soon with feeding. My brother had cleft palate and it was recommended he bottle fed, but in those days they recommended it to most women anyway.

I reckon i know how you do it with three, we all forget young people don't need sleep!!!! I remeber being 21 and going out three nights in a row, I had 7 hours sleep over the three none the first night, and still went to work admittedly i really did need toothpicks to keep my eyes open, but these days i struggle if i only have 7 hours sleep for one nightI'm 32 with 2 dear boys, and i feel like my body's falling apartit happens to soon

weegirls- my dog doesn't like slippery floors either (she tries to run over them really fast to avoid them, but that normally makes it worse , but easily fixed just put some mats down, or train the dog to like them with some treats. (no excuses for MIL now)

Christmas- We now only buy the children presents in our family, it's so much better as we can spend more on them, and we no longer have to find room for things we don't need. I've bought a bit already, got some great things on sale

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/10/2007 12:39

Hi guys,

my2weegirls, I'm sure I've heard of a product you can apply to dogs feet to give them more grip on wood floors. You could try your local pet shop/vet?

Tasha, James was 7lb 2oz at birth, he's now approximately 12lb. How much did your little one weigh? He is sleeping ok, he has two bottles of milk at bedtime (cluster feeding?) then sleeps from about 9.30pm to 3.30am, wakes for another feed at 6.30am and about 9.30am we get up. Getting lots more sleep now thank god, I need it! How does your baby sleep, being premature?

Didn't go to slimming world last night as we had to go over to my dads, but I'm still trying to watch what I eat this week, in the spirit of slimming world. Less motivated today though, I could murder a bag of maltesers!

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/10/2007 13:11

I'm sorry - products for dogs so teir feet don't slip on wooden floors? have we changed topics?!!!!

I have bought 2 xmas presents so far. my aim is to buy as little as possible, to rely on my sil to buy DS all the junk she can. DD can have DS's toys. My biggest dilemmas are a) DH's birthday in november- he bought me a £50 boots voucher for mine - do I do something similiarly awful? and b) DS's birthday in Jan - party or no party? I am not one for doing the "Mum" thing - my friends don't all have kids, and many are much older, and DS is quite happy to play with his friends at nursery. Equally, I don't want to invite a houseful of people I don't know in over xmas.....

shrinkingsagpuss · 23/10/2007 13:12

Pink - How are you today? I imagine 1/2 term is keeping you busy. Do you want to get together after for a coffee or something? Seeing as you DS is ff you could always drop him her for an hour or so for a break if you trusted me!! Have a bit of time out.

Token Totty - where are you? Are you ok??

I worry about the people wo aren't around.

GillL · 23/10/2007 13:36

I'm quite pleased today. Ds has slept for over 3 hours (just waking now) which is unprecedented in the morning. I've had breakfast, done an hour of exercise, washed and sterilised bottles, had a shower and had lunch! That never happens. Weighed myself just now and I've lost about 5lbs in the last couple of weeks just by watching what I'm eating and doing a bit of exercise.

Tasha - my dd was the same as yours. Even though she was full term she didn't go into 0-3 til she was 3 months old. Haven't started xmas shopping yet - really can't afford it. Will have to do it all with November pay (my first full pay packet after going back to work) and spend as little as possible.

my2weegirls - I had considered the hungry baby milk but I wondered if he was snacking because of his cold and cough. He seems to have got rid of his cold now so I'll see how it goes.

Love your dh's present idea sagpuss! He must have spent ages thinking of that one. For kids birthdays - I'm still in touch with my nct ante-natal group from when I was pg with dd. We tend to do one party for all of them. We don't invite any other kids though.

my2weegirls · 23/10/2007 13:55

james - oh - didn't know you could get stuff for their paws - will take myself off to petshop shortly!

uki - we have a great big rug in the middle of the livingroom floor and he never moved from it for 3 days except when DP carried him to front door to take him for walks. we tried putting his favourite snacks just beyond reach but he's so stubborn (spoilt) that they'd still be there now . didn't help that mil kept feeding him off her plate - isle of skye smoked salmon no less! i even got my brother to bring one of his dogs round to teach him? how to walk - but he wouldn't budge!

need to go a wee persons awake

Annie75 · 23/10/2007 19:00

Hello everyone. Gill, am impressed by your organised day and you, Bagpuss, by your attention to Xmas pressies already!

Nell's been a bit under the weather today. Look away now if you're poo-squeamish, but she seems to have frothy stools every once in a while, a bit like the froth on a cappucino or, the kind that snails produce!! She's a colicky baby anyway, but am wondering if there's something wrong. Doc originally thought it was a dose of stomach bug, but it keeps coming back... and in between, her poos are normal. Any ideas what it is? She also sounds quite chesty, poor dab.

Went to a baby music thingy this morning. Felt like a comedy sketch singing and jigging the baby along to jibberish songs, but I guess it might be nice for her as she gets older. Anyone else tried it?

conkertree · 23/10/2007 19:07

hi annie - sorry cant help with the poo situation - have no experience of it.

not gone to a music thing yet but am going to take ds to the village under 5s group tomorrow for the first time. have seen a few babies going in other weeks so dont think he will be the only one, but its really for me to meet some people rather than for him. the music sounds fun though.

since your last post about what you'd imagined doing on mat leave, i've started thinking more and more seriously about wanting to change career. am a solicitor just now, and planning to go back part time in april, but really dont want to - at least not long term.

am looking into starting my own business and for the first time since starting work, i am really excited about not having to be a solicitor for ever. will have to do a lot more research before making a final decision though.

tasha21 · 23/10/2007 20:20

hiya everyone, had a bit of a mad day today one of those i cant cope days. could have murdered them lol. brought lo to the hospital and they gave me something else to put in his feeds but its like wallpaper paste. he is waking for a feed every 3 hours around the clock, weighed 4lb when he was born and today weighs 6lb 2oz.

ive decided im gonna be organised this christmas. our fam are also only buying kids this year takes away alot of the stress. got a few good bargains in tk max.

GillL · 23/10/2007 21:16

Annie - I assure you it's a one off! Normally ds wakes for his feed, goes to sleep for half an hour (where I rush round trying to get things done) and then wakes up for more.

Conker - I know exactly what you mean by not wanting to go back to the same job. My job was really stressful when I left and is likely to be much worse now. I studied a few years ago for something else (couldn't move at the time as I had to stay for 18 months or pay back my maternity allowance) and I intend to move jobs asap. I've actually got an interview on 12th November. It's part time for almost the same money as I get now. One of the perks is full pay on maternity leave - which is very important to me as I'm planning to have one or two more babies. What are you thinking of doing?

Poor you tasha. Is the new stuff working? Perhaps he's having a growth spurt. Luckily I've not had a day like that for a while. My mum has dd two or three days a week though and that helps to keep me sane. Also helps me get a few hours extra sleep after ds's first feed of the morning. If I've got dd then I can't go back to bed.

shrinkingsagpuss · 24/10/2007 08:38

Annie are you FF or BF? If FF then worth checking its gluten free (it should be). but other than that, no iea.

Pukey crappy night here. Went to bed early, then Evie woke at 12.30 - which is early for her. She threw up on me entire feeed as she was coughing so much. then she slept on me til 1.30, I gave her some more milk and tried putting her in her cot. then DS woke up 3 times. Then I gave up on the cot, as she ws coughing so much. She slept on me all nght. I fed her at 4 and 7 and she prmptly coughed the whole lot up on me at 7 too. I'm coughing like crazy too, and its my first weds with DS not going to nursery, so I won't even get a rest.

I am SOOOO not organised for xmas - it was a fluke I have bought anything at all.!

Annie75 · 24/10/2007 09:01

Sounds like a messy night, Bagpuss. Me too - explosive nappies, sicky and crying, poor bean. Mind you, I think anyone with more than one child is amazing - don't know how you, Gill and Tasha cope! Do you just get better a being a mum after the first? Or is it that you don't have time to fret about the small things that you dwell on with baby 1?

Hey Gill and Conker, exciting that you're both thinking of a change of career. I'd love to do the same, or, at least, set up on my own to give myself more freedom, but am nervous about the uncertainty of it all. I'm dreading going back to work - not because I don't like what i do, but rather, she seems so small to be in daycare and I'll miss all the things she starts to do. Things have changed so much - 20 years ago, people could survive on one person's income.

Anyone heard from TokenTotty or Mrs Badger?

tokentotty · 24/10/2007 09:23

Hellloooo all !

Am here, alive and well. Busy, busy as usual and my computer seems to be a bit hit and miss again so hence me being something of a stranger. Think it should be sorted out now so hopefully will be around more often.
Things with me are great apart from Peanut and his not putting on weight thing are back. Had him weighed yesterday and he was back down to 9lb 8oz. Not great on a 9-9.5 week infant that was born at 8lb 6oz eh ? he's obviously just not getting enough from me during the day as I was feeding him myself for 4 feeds and then doing his last one as hungry baby formula. Now have given him stage one for 6am and then got my as yet unused breast pump out to see if I could get enough out to give him his 10am feed made up of my milk. First time round and got 5oz so am going to give him that and for once actually know how much breast milk he's had. Think I'll probably leave a bottle of formula for his 2pm feed as Nanny's looking after him while I go to meet DH (taking me to the jeweller we use in Hatton Garden to buy me a 'baby present' - too exciting !!!). Then hopefully I'll express another 5 oz for his 6pm feed before his usual bedtime bottle. Will attempt this routine for a week and then see how next weeks weigh in goes. Anyone any thoughts / suggestions on this plan ?

Let me see...what else has been going on. Oh yes, we had a lovely family weekend away in Brighton the other weekend. Had such a wonderful time being away altogether. Off to Spain Sat week for 9 days and am desperately trying to work out what to take with me or buy out there etc - brain's going into meltdown. Am currently uhming and ahing over whether Paddy and I can manage a flight to Perth, Australia soon. My best friend lives there and has just had her second baby and is struggling Makes me feel down knowing she's having a hard time with her elder daughter (2) being a little wotsit because she's having difficulty adjusting to her new sister and the baby being fretful and hard to settle, all accompanied by her feeling isolated, lonely and miserable. What to do, what to do....

tokentotty · 24/10/2007 09:28

Oh, and there's more....!!

Paddy's got a stinking cold and pooing all the time too. With regards to frothy poo - that's what he used to do when he was 100% breastfed and (excuse the graphicness of this) now he has formula it looks like satay sauce !!

With regards to changing career, I have to admit to thinking about it myself. Have been in private client investment banking for 10 years now. I work on a trading desk and just don't see that I can go back to my job on the part-time basis that I want. Am going to have to give it some thought soon that's for sure. I know one of my old clients is starting a new venture soon in something completely different (which unfortunately I can't tell you all about yet) but has mentioned to people about me possibly working for him, so there might be something else out there for me as have no idea what I could do if it wasn't banking.

tasha21 · 24/10/2007 10:42

morning all
tokentotty- sorry to hear about your lo, i cant really give advice though cause kinda on the same boat. sounds like a plan though.
think we all had a bad night last night. my lo was only sick at one feed but the thicker milk seems to be making it hard for him to bring his wind up.
i dont have anybody to give me a break from the kids babysitters are like gold dust and eldest isnt at nursery yet. i hate leaving the house through the day cause its so hard with the three of them and always ends up with my eldest on shop floor throwing tantrums. so embarrasing

Annie75 · 24/10/2007 11:57

Hello TT Nice to hear things are fine with you and Paddy. And ooh, will you tell us what you get as a baby present? You sound as though you have a v thoughtful DH. Let us know what you choose!

I don't know anything about ff yet, but just be reassured that everyone I know who has had probs with their baby gaining weight (and it is a common prob) find it sorts itself out eventually and won't cause him probs in the short-term.

We went to Spain with Nell when she was 6 weeks. In terms of stuff, I'd say baby passport (but you know that!), get her put on your EHIC card for European health insurance (there's a number on their website and it only takes them a day or so to issue and send you a new card). You can get your nappies etc out there. Um, not sure if there are mozzies at this time of year but there were when we went in Sept. I bought a Samsonite pop-up travel cot which has a mozzie net, but didn't use it. You might want waterproof baby nappies if you're near a heated pool, too. We just took our car seat and the frame for our pram, as it fits on that, and that was fine. Oh, and maybe a waterproof cover in case it rains. They give you a baby seatbelt which attachs to yours on the plane, though amazingly Nell slept through both flights and didn't seem bothered by the cabin pressure.

As for Perth, funnily enough that's where my brother, sis-in-law and niece live and she's about to have another one, so I was thinking the same thing about going out to see them. Reckon it might actually be easier while they are still portable...

Yeah, sounds as though a few of us are thinking about changing the way we work. Would be so nice to have a more flexible way of working...Would you be on a lower salary? I bet banking pays v well!!

tasha21 · 24/10/2007 12:15

i would love to start working again but havent in so long, the thought of it is a bit scary. my kids have never been with a childminder. i wouldnt no where to start

my2weegirls · 24/10/2007 12:30

morning - hope everyone is well? sorry to hear about coughing, snotty, pukey wee ones hope they are better soon.

sorry i can't help any advice on frothy poo other than to say that DD2's is more like mince rather than satay sauce hope no-one is having mince and tatties tonight!!!

i did music classes with DD1 but she was about 18months - she loved it and we are actually starting a dance and drama class on friday - DP is taking the next 8 or so fridays off so that he can look after DD2 whilst we are off being lions prowling throgh the jungle.

that sounds exciting those of you thinking about changing career! i thought about it last time i was on mat leave but for some strange reason i actually enjoy working for the NHS (and their family friendly policies are really good) - though i'll have a new boss when i go back so that will be strange.

i've seen mrsbadger posting on other threads so she is about somewhere...

ps james/uki never made it to the pet shop yesterday but have seen doggy boots with rubber grips online - now just need to persuade MIL that they would work!

my2weegirls · 24/10/2007 12:31

it's taken me so long to type that, it's now afternoon
