Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

Don't mean to be a killjoy - but gripewater says on the bottle, 3 months and upwards... I know these things are over cautious, but sometimes there are reasons for it... incidentally it says 3 montsh plus on the Snufflebabe stuff, and I was going to use it one Evie - but her cold seems to be getting better.

re: constipation, every H.P I know says B/f babis often only poo only once a day or even less frequently, and it is completely normal for a baby to LOOK very constipated - like they are really trying, and even to cry when having a poo - it doesn't mean they are bunged up (but worth asking a health visitor)

GillL · 20/09/2007 16:57

That gives me some hope for the next one loler. I saw a bf counsellor a few days before I gave up and she showed me the right was to latch ds on. Only problem was that I was in too much pain and too sore to continue. Maybe I'll be more successful next time now that I know what to do.

I gave dd gripe water from 4 weeks.

growingbagpuss · 20/09/2007 17:29

I lied... it says 1 month!!!!! sorry all!!!!

GillL · 20/09/2007 17:48

Had quite a good night last night. Ds slept from 9:15pm til 3:30am dropping one of his feeds. Dd did the same thing at the same age. I hope it wasn't just a one off. Annoyingly, although he fed and went back to sleep within an hour, dd woke up so I didn't get back to sleep til over 2 hours later.

Ds was weighed and measured today. He's put on another pound and is 11lb 1oz. He's put on 4lb since he was a week old. He's also grown 5cm in length. He's gone from the 25th to the 95th centile.

my2weegirls - have been making much more of an effort to spend time with dd even when I've got ds and so far it seems to be working. She always plays up as soon as dh gets home though. Do you find the same happens for you?

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 20/09/2007 19:54

Annie - really do feel for you with the colic, it's a nasty thing!
Tate is also a windy baby, will burp but ends up holding more in aswell, i will be investing in some grip water next week ( already using the infacol!)

GillL - Lucky you with ds, thats a good stretch of sleep you can get then!

Im feeling a little down and peed right now, Tate is having a Major growth spurt and does not stop eating, taking 5 oz then 2 oz about an hour later, then crying for ages because he has so much wind, good knows how he would be if i was breast feeding, HV said it will sought itself out, and im sure it will but has been like this for a week now and he still dont really have any routine. Woke up for a feed at 3.45pm today, then had another one at 5.30, then WOULD NOT go to sleep but was screaming because he was tired, had to take him out in the car but then he woke back up s soon as he got home, have finally managed to get him to sleep!
Also having serious guilt trip about the lack of time spent with ds1, he is at school all day and when he gets home, its feed the baby, do dinner, feed baby again then its bath time im missing spending time with my big boy ,
Sorry to ramble on but i know you guys are the few that will understand right now!

Oh and to top it off was meant to be going out for a drink with SIL tonight but due to Baby playing up and everything else going wrong had to cancel that aswell

GillL · 20/09/2007 22:36

Pink - my ds didn't stop eating at that stage (I think he's a couple of weeks older). He was having similar amounts of milk. He's actually on 6oz bottles now. He's settled down a little bit and is sleeping for longer stretches in the day time as well as at night. Hopefully Tate will follow the same pattern. I often wonder if I would have been constantly feeding him if I was bfing. As it was, when he was a week old he was bfing for 3 hours in one go twice a day. Hope the gripe water does the trick. I know what you mean about not spending enough time with a sibling. I feel bad that I'm constantly saying things like 'after I've fed Alex' and 'after I've got Alex to sleep'. Will your dh watch the baby for a few hours while you spend some time with ds1 at the weekend?

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 21/09/2007 09:37

Thanks GillL

Have told ds1 that mummy will spend some time with him doing whatever he wants to do, he replied to this that he wat me to play on the computer with him , of course i said yes but after just me and him had gone to the park!

I think baby must have filled himself to the brim yesterday and hopefully we might > be turning a corner, went down at 11.30, up at 2.00 but only took 2oz, then back up at 4.00 but again only 2oz, then 7.15 he had 41/2oz, then just got in from taking ds1 to school and normally if he was stiring in his car seat he would wake up and want feeding but he has settled himself back off and is still alsleep!

You can tell we are all busy now, this thread has been going for over a month and we 307 posts! Now on that note i must do some housework!

growingbagpuss · 21/09/2007 13:30

Hurrah hurrah!! 8.00 she settled last nght!! i had my first scream free dinner in ages... AND DH was out, and missed it!! I stuffed her full with as much milk as I could... and it worked!!

Getting her in a routine has helped too... my GF bible has come back into action....
Trouble is, having settled at 8, she was awake ay 12 (I never havve managed to wake her at 10), then 3.30, then 5 (!!!) wanting snuggles - as soon as she is in with me, she goes bak to sleep little toad! Never mind, it'll get better soon.

Just had my hair cut too, for the first time in 6 months... lovely.... v nice man does it, which I do like.... v appy. feel on the mend now.. just need to sort out the dodgy shaped tummy.....

Uki · 22/09/2007 12:13

Hi all

been lurking a bit, but no time for posting the day just goes with feeding changing and more feeding combined with the dreaded hosework.

Hersetta- sorry to hear of infection. Hope your 100% better now, what a nightmare. You have put me off my planned elective c/s, I'm sure you've put yourself off them too.

pink - hope you've had some better days (and nights)now, you sound tired out.

growing bag- new hair, what a good idea. I feel a bit due for that too. Have decided on exercise class for my tummy.

BB - where's all your mammoth posts gone i miss them. hope your well.

all going ok here. i'm missing my dh though. he ends up in bed with ds every night, and has been working quite a bit, even though he works from home, we hardly speak

LL gets a little windy too, poor thing does a very pained cry crunches his legs up, but then suddenly stops when the pain goes.

I'm thinking of replacing the first L from Little to Lord Levi, he is such a fat and gorgeous thing, with an intent and knowing stare going to be interesting to see his personality develop.

Hi to all the other Augie mums and bubs

stigofthedump · 22/09/2007 21:42

Hi folks

Its such hard work being small, having to learn how your body works. Pooing, farting and burping are a big deal in our house. Caitlin's doing plenty of each but its a real effort. Tho she did a big man's fart in her sleep last night. Think the infacols coming out of the cupboard. Thanks for the tips about gripe water, didn't have that one on my radar.

Pink, I'm missing my little lad too, hope you get some time with him regularly. I feel torn between the 2 of them and that its unfair on ds because he's too young to understand. Then he goes and grabs Caitlin and I get angry at him. Poor wee fellow .

GBP glad you are feeling better, haircut sounds good plan. I laughed out loud when I read your post about the nightmare caravan holiday as I just booked a couple of nights in a caravan in October for DPs birthday near surf beaches as he keeps moaning about never being allowed to go surfing any more . Am starting to realise it may not be blissful escape for me. Will be stocking up with infacol, gripe water and ear plugs.

Ineedsomesleep · 23/09/2007 17:59

Itchy, DS had terrible wind which stopped when I cut out caffiene. This time I've stayed away from the stuff as much as poss and DD has been much better. Still get burps & trumnps but is usually sorted with a bit of winding.

She only poos every 4 days or so too and really strains and farts before but everyone says thats ok. DS pooed about 6 times a day so it takes a bit of getting used to.

GBP I had my hair done last week and feel much better too. Don't know what to do about my tum though as I'm sure I'm getting bigger!

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend with their LO's

divamum2two · 23/09/2007 18:52

hi girls,
hope everyone doing well. i know im not regular poster here but i alwyas tried my best. ds is now 1m old. seems gone so fast.
thnx for baby swing recommendation banana if anyone interested they have fisher price ones on offer at argos.
im not sure if i want one as dd sits on baby bouncer. she is 2.5y, still young to understand. she kicks her arms and legs and acts like ds. she loves tiny love baby gym,too
i bet they all the same.

GillL · 23/09/2007 21:03

diva - my dd of the same age keeps getting on the bouncer. It doesn't matter how many times I tell her to get off.

Had fun in ASDA this afternoon. DS had fed just before we came out but only had half a bottle so I took it with me. He started whinging part way round so I gave him the rest. Took him out to wind him and he brought a load of it back up - all over himself, me and the floor in ASDA. DH had kindly taken the wipes out of the change bag earlier and forgotten to put them back in so all I could do was change ds and not clean him.

DS definitely smiled at me today. It was lovely. I can't wait for him to start doing it lots more.

divamum2two · 23/09/2007 22:03

hi gill,
i was about to buy fisher price swing but im worried dd will also try to get on it at some point, and may hurt herself.
i like the idea of ds sitting in it and having a few moment.
we also had tesco incident, which is very similar we were at cafe. i had ds on my knee so i was covered in between my legs

my2weegirls · 24/09/2007 09:13

diva/gill - i've got you're DDs pal here! DD1 loves to try and climb in the car seat/bouncy chair/changing mat and wriggle about on her back on DD2's play mat. she looks like a beetle that's got stuck on it's back. sometimes she loves being the the big girl and other times reverts to baby behaviour. particularly a very annoying pretend cry which drives me mad!!!!!

and yes GIll she does act up more when DP and I are together. I took her to the beach and then the shops yesterday for some mummy DD1 time and she was perfect, however, as soon as we got home she started acting up a bit grrrr - hope it calms down soon.

for 2 nights in a row DD2 has slept from 8pm till the back of 1am - over 5 hours - and then till the back of 5am - hope i've not jinxed it now...she'll be 7 weeks tomorrow the time has flown by. she's lying on her playmat just now squealing and agooing at the tortoise with the big black and white eyes - aww

my2weegirls · 24/09/2007 09:14

sorry that should be 'your' not you're. my spelling and punctuation has gone to pot!

nappyaddict · 24/09/2007 17:00

does anyone have lovelybirds email address??

divamum2two · 24/09/2007 20:10

my2weegirls,
you said it right, dd does like ladybird, too
ds 5weeks soon, we are feeding every 4hours which is big change as dd used to feed every 3hours till 12weeks old.
5hours sound like dream, hope you are having some rest.

GillL · 24/09/2007 22:23

Ds has spent the last day and a half feeding every 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Strangely though, he's only taking half a bottle. I think it may be because he's got a bit of a cold. I'm exhausted though cos he was up 4 times last night to feed. He's been awake for hours now and doesn't seem to want to go to sleep. He seemed like he was going to go to sleep when he was feeding but woke up when he finished. He doesn't want the rest of his bottle and isn't interested in the dummy.

He's 6 weeks on Wednesday. I really hope he starts sleeping longer.

growingbagpuss · 25/09/2007 09:35

I woulod add a really long post... but am juggling babe who won't sleep anywgere except me. sher had 3 hours yesterday - and screamed for the rest of the time she was awake.. barely fed, so boobs v sore..... v good at night thank god, just exhausting in the day...

it will get better.....

stigofthedump · 25/09/2007 11:39

GillL & GBP I'm with you on the frequent feeding frenzy. She was awake for 2 hours in the middle of last night, ended up watching a programme about penises which was quite amusing. Would much rather be asleep.

Got signed off by midwife yesterday at 28 days vik k visit. She reckons babies have growth spurts where they feed frequently every 5 or 6 days. Will try to record and see if thats whats happening.

conkertree · 25/09/2007 12:23

hi folks. have tried several times to read posts to catch up before posting but have not managed for a week, so just going to post and try to catch up later. sorry if i have missed anything big.

dh got back from africa last week so lo and i got home too. at 6 weeeks almost to the day, ds started sleeping better. still up 3 times some nights but sometimes he can make it from 10 to 3.30 without a feed which is lovely when it happens.

he has been putting on at least 12oz every week and sometimes more so is feeding a lot. am hoping he has been having a growth spurt and it will slow down a bit soon.

red books seem to be given out everywhere except north lanarkshire my2weegirls - hv didnt know why nl is different but no doubt to do with money.

hope everyone is getting more settled. i am now trying to find a group to go to locally now that we are home. sometimes find it hard to entertain lo as he is awake for most of the day unless we go out to a big group of people as then he sleeps.

ok arm now getting sore from balancing him while typing so will finish there and hope to not leacve it as long next time.

growingbagpuss · 25/09/2007 15:19

Am I the only one not getting my baby weighed? the clinic is on a thursday, and i can't cope with getting there for 10.00 with DS and DD. If you don't get there early you wait for hours...

Manage to get a few things done today, but D is still being fairly aful. He asked me the other day if "given what I know now, would I have had Evie?".. as in, she is sooooo awful he said that " given the disruption, he's still not sure if having her was a good idea". I suggested we have her adopted.

I feel guilty every time I pick her up when he is around, in case I get told off for over handling her. He had a go at me for falling asleep with her, when he had spent 2 precious sleeping child hours asleep himself earlier that day.

A crying baby, an unsettled baby, is bad enough, but you don't expect to get critism from within your own relationship. He had better start pulling his weight emotionally and physically with her soon. He hasn't taken her out once, or changed a nappy or anything. With DS he was hands on, and took him out in the sling, and pushchair and was soooo proud of his baby boy. Not so Evie.

sorry. I finally get tiem to put in a decent post, and am grympu.

Oh, and waful typing. sorry!!

Hope everyone else is fine.. BB had James put on weight.. or was it TT and Patrick? I know someone was a little worried about weight loss... it'll be ok. just keep loving them.

GillL · 25/09/2007 16:11

Ds wasn't too bad in the end last night and has been better with feeding so far today, so maybe it was a growth spurt stig. He actually slept til 3:15am but unfortunately dd woke up at 1:30. I think it must be her cold. Ds then slept til 6:30, had 2oz and then had some more at 8:30 and brought loads of it back up all over me - eurrrgghhhh.

bagpuss - ds's weighing clinic is at a church hall just round the corner from me every Thursday from 1:30pm til 3:30pm and is only for families with Surestart so it's not very busy. My doctors is a 30 minute walk away so I don't think I would get there every week if I had to go there to get him weighed, especially if it was as early as yours.

Sorry to hear your dh is still being awful bagpuss. I can't believe he said that!! Do you think he is just doing this because Evie cries a lot? Dd was like Evie and my dh never helped with night feeds or nappy changes, even at the weekend. This time round he has been much more hands on, although he does get fed up easily when he's difficult to settle. Ds is a much easier baby though. Everyone I know has had easy boy babies and difficult girls.

I think it was TT's Patrick who lost weight.

my2weegirls · 26/09/2007 09:28

oh bagpuss big hug to you. don't know what to say to help . i can't imagine doing this without DP's help. the main thing just now is that you, Evie and DS are ok. Is your DH doing anything to help? is he feeling left out?

i've only had DD2 weighed once, think the second time around you are more relaxed and can see that they are ok and thriving (she's already wearing some 3-6month clothes/sleep suits) and it's too busy/other things to dow looking after a toddler and a baby to get there!). with DD1 i was at the weighing clinic every week for about the first 20 weeks even though she was always at the 98th centile.

HV is coming on friday to do DD2's checkup before she gets her injections next thursday so i presume she'll weigh her then.

Conker - bet you are glad to have DH home. did he notice a big difference in DS? did he bring him (and you) any nice presents from africa? strange how the NHS differs across all the health boards when it should be the same. i did a some work quite a few years ago for child health in lanarkshire which if i remember right showed that they did do some things differently to the other health boards in scotland....

well we are eventually getting round to doing up the nursery DD2 is only 7 weeks old...there's a guy here just now fitting some laminate flooring in her room. the cot has to be rebuilt and the new furniture for DD1's room has to be built so that her furniture can go into DD2's room..suppose we've got a few months to get it sorted before DD2 goes into her own room (though if she keeps being such a noisy sleeper she'll be in sooner!!!!)
