@Sheeni that's fantastic news I bet your so relived.
Everyone who's little ones have had jabs today hope their doing ok in this heat. It's really unbearable, my little one has been laid naked most of the day. Dreading bedtime, my room is currently 29.4!!!!

Jenfur · 25/07/2019 19:06

@Sheeni that's great news!

It's currently 31 degrees in our bedroom with a fan on and bottles of iced water in front of it. Curtains and windows have been closed all day to keep the sun and heat out. Baby usually sleeps in a sleeping bag but is just in his vest and nappy tonight which is making it harder to get him to sleep.

He's also reduced his feeding even more today and I'm really scared he's going to end up dehydrated. I don't know what I can do because he doesn't want to feed any more than he has done.

kee80 · 25/07/2019 19:43

@Jenfur mines also currently 31 now, it's gone up. I've been putting her in nappy and sleeveless vest with the fan on but not directly facing her. She's also not been feeding to well neither, I've resorted to giving her a little cooled boiled water which she's took well, only about 2-3oz and also let her suck on some watermelon that I had in the fridge. She really enjoyed it and seemed to calm her down when she was fussing and getting hot

Brobot · 25/07/2019 22:08

@Sheeni that's fantastic! I'm so delighted for you that he doesn't need surgery 😊.

For the past few nights Elliot has been doing the usual 45 minutes at "bedtime" (yeah right) and then not settling for the night until about 11. Why can't my child just go to bed at a normal bedtime?! It's wrecking my head lol.

Wineandchoccy · 25/07/2019 22:23

@Sheeni great news what a relief for you

kee80 · 25/07/2019 22:27

@Brobot mines the same. She will fall asleep about 7.30-8.30 for about 30-45 mins then won't settle for the night till around 10-10.30

Angelmiracle · 25/07/2019 23:49

@Sheeni I'm sure you're delighted to hear that!!

DD has been asleep since 11pm but her 3rd dose of calpol after jabs are due now at 12am. Do I leave her but monitor her temperature or lift her to give it to her?! Giving her a 3.30pm appointment is a bit late in the day!

OP posts:
Brobot · 25/07/2019 23:55

@Kee80 it's so frustrating! Last night my husband slept in the spare room because he has a cough and 1. he doesn't want Elliot to catch it and 2. every time he coughs Elliot wakes. So I was a bit happy about potentially having a better sleep as we would have more space. However, I woke several times through the night to find Elliot telling very elaborate stories and flinging his legs around like it was 3 in the afternoon. Screw you, sleep regression. Tonight is the same. Husband in the spare room. Fingers crossed for a better night.

We are lucky in that it isn't just as warm here in Belfast but it's still very warm. I don't think I could handle the temperatures you guys are having to deal with. All hail the inventor of the fan!!!

Angelmiracle · 25/07/2019 23:56

A lot of you are suffering much worse in the heat than us. My kitchen at 25° is very uncomfortable but bedroom is 23° and more bearable. DD appears happy in vest and 0.2 sleeping bag 🤞🏻 sore thighs don't have her up! She's breastfed but I've been making bottles of cool boiled water to offer her too. She takes an ounce or two sometimes.

Has anyone elses baby not wanted to go on play mat or bouncer after previously enjoying them?? We've had 4 days of her crying when I walk away after putting her in something...I hope it passes I can't carry her the whole day. I've been pushing her around in the pram so she sees me that seems to help.

OP posts:
Brobot · 26/07/2019 00:00

@Angelmiracle we had the same problem.. appointment was at 3.45pm. Luckily Elliot woke for a feed at around 12 so I gave it to him then. Tbh if your lo isn't due to wake I would leave it and just try to keep layers to a minimum. Just keep an eye out for discomfort and give the next dose if they wake.

Angelmiracle · 26/07/2019 00:44

Thanks @Brobot She literally just stirred for her dummy so I gave her the 3rd dose when she was half awake thankfully she went back over. Been clingy all evening!

Jenfur · 26/07/2019 06:57

@Angelmiracle Mine has decided the play mat and bouncer are no longer for him and that he needs to be held. If I put him down, he cries but with an older DS, I haven't got much choice but to put him down some of the time. Sometimes he cheers up a little while I'm doing whatever I need to do but generally fusses to be held again after a minute or two.

I went for a massage yesterday (DH booked it for my birthday) and came home to find that he'd spent most of the time I was gone crying. Cheered up when mummy walked back in so now feels like I can't leave him even for an hour and even with milk in the fridge for him.

kee80 · 26/07/2019 07:26

Hope everyone survived the night ok! We had a much better sleep, I put a rolled up towel at the side of little one so she was rolling about all night. She slept in her side with her leg over the towel most of the night and slept loads better.
@Angelmiracle @Jenfur mine was like that for about a week-week and half, always wanting to be held and hating bouncer and play matt. She's fine with them now

BadBadBeans · 26/07/2019 08:59

OMG. What a night! DS1 didn't fall asleep till gone 9pm, baby J followed at 9.30pm. Then J woke up at 1am for a feed. DS1 came in at 2.45am asking for water (to his credit, he whispered so as not to wake the baby!). J then up at 4.30am, 6am and 7.30am. I co-slept from 4.30am so That I could feed lying down. I've got a big drive solo with the boys this weekend so I hope they don't keep this up 😭

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 26/07/2019 10:59

Sounds like we all suffered last night.
George has been sleeping through (from 9-8) for the past month. Yesterday we were up pretty much every hour and a half. It was 30 degrees in our bedroom and only went down to 29 with the windows wide open all night. I got him in bed with us and laid him on a damp towel.:. Which worked for all of half an hour. What I found to work best and gave us 3 hours uninterrupted sleep was wetting our top sheet wringing it out and putting it over us. Definitely going to use this again!! Although our bed is still slightly damp this morning 😂 worth it though!

Brobot · 26/07/2019 11:18

It's a relief to hear I'm not the only one struggling with a little non-sleeper. He slept slightly better last night. Normally he sleeps snuggled right into like a wee slug but since my hubby was in the spare room I thought it would be a good opportunity to sleep at the other side of the bed from him to get him used to not having me directly beside him. Paving the way for getting him back into the cot! He's a bit miserable today though and I'm putting it down to sore gums as he is whingeing every time he puts his hands in his mouth. Today my brother is coming home to my mum's house so we will be spending our day over there which (despite the situation) will be good for Elliot as there will be lots of ppl around to dote on him (and good for me 🤣), every cloud eh! Still very warm but not as bad as you guys have it. It's the only perk of living in northern Ireland.

We are coming up to 21 and whenever I eat anything, Elliot watches and starts to get crabby.. I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence or whether he is wanting me to give him some! I'm kinda looking forward to trying him on solids in a few weeks!

HidCat · 27/07/2019 08:23

@Sheeni that's great news! Hopefully it's all soft enough to settle down with some position adjustments or one of those helmets (my cousins little one had them, they had a some lovely patterns).

@Brobot so sorry that you're going through so much with your brother. I hope baby's sleep improves soon. I've managed to keep up a light swaddle as Missy has become a very violent thrasher in her sleep so taking her out of the swaddle was a nightmare. Even though she's 4.5 months now she throws herself around at night. Her brother was the same though so I shouldn't be too surprised.

Hope everyone's bubbas are ok after their jabs.

@Angelmiracle mine was not wanting to play on the mat / chair for a couple of days but has reverted back to being ok now. I hope yours does too. She's struggling with teething a bit but she's definitely getting overstimulated / disrupted by her brother being here full time. I'm trying to keep her in a fairly close routine to what we've been doing during school but how well that will Go is anyone's guess.

BadBadBeans · 27/07/2019 18:37

Baby J properly rolled today, i.e. rolled and managed to untrap his arm from beneath himself. Of course he did it when I was not in the room! He then did it three more times in a row so there is no escaping it now... He is on the move!

melissa112 · 27/07/2019 19:29

@Sheeni thats such good news that LO doesn't neep an operation. So pleased for you!

@Brobot so sorry to hear about your brother, such a terrible thing. Sending hugs xx

@BadBadBeans we had the same. I went out of thr room to wash my hands and when he came back he was on his front. Gutted i missed it! He did it constantly for a few days then hasnt bothered the past few. He has a really strong neck when doing tummy time but is now acting like he has forgotton and flails about with his face on the floor whinging like a newborn! Haha

HidCat · 28/07/2019 19:20

Hi ladies, I hope you've all had a lovely weekend. I've noticed on three occasions this week that my little girl has got hives. First one at a time then tonight she had two. They clear after being washed with water so I think it's a contact allergy and my immediate thoughts are family washing powders or something along those lines so keeping a diary to see if I can pinpoint the culprit. Anyone else having this and can offer advice? Her breathing isn't affected so I'm not wanting to call the doctor about it (I have allergies myself so confident it's not a major problem at the moment).

Angelmiracle · 29/07/2019 01:01

Thanks @HidCat @kee80 and @Jenfur for your replies. Yesterday tried her on playmat and she's back to enjoying it again so fingers crossed that fussy stage has passed although maybe I am optimistic as shes only 17 weeks today. She had first daytime nap for 3 hours in snuzpod since 3 weeks ago. It's funny @HidCat I hadn't even linked that to DS being off school!! It is difficult keeping both happy at all times.

Sorry I've no experience of DD getting hives but DS was getting loads of hives since being off school which I just out down to playing outside in grass etc and I was able to give him piriton obviously. You're probably right thinking along the lines of the washing powder or something.

DD still had temperature on Saturday night from jabs on thurs but all ok yesterday thankfully.

Congrats to baby J rolling @BadBadBeans and to baby George @melissa112!! Exciting Smile DD has rolled onto her side when clothes and nappy are both off so hopefully she's not far off rolling!

Had 4 month review she's 13lb11 still on 50th percentile and 64.5cm 75th percentile (almost full length of 3-6 month clothes) glad BF is going well this time around.

Also got some advice from HV on managing DS behaviour atm as he is triggering my anxiety frequently and it has really helped I just need to be firm and consistent with him. It's mainly stemming from when DD arrived as he was only child for 6.5 years!

I've also had a psorasis flare since having DD and it's still spreading. GP is hopeful it'll clear up as I haven't been this bad since I was 14! And I'm on my sister's wedding next year Confused

How is everyone getting on? The past few days I've been taking Elliot over to my mum's with me and my God!!! He HATES the car. By the time we arrive (only a 20 minute journey) we are both in tears! He cries soooo hard. One of these days I'm going to crash because it's so distressing. I have no option though. He is fine when we are there but I now dread having to take him because I can't even pull over to calm him as it's all motorway and it's pointless anyway because it just gives him false hope and when I strap him back in he gets even more upset. I've tried distracting him with toys, music, everything. The cry is so severe you would think he was in pain but I've checked every possibility, plus he is sometimes fine coming home. I have to go over every day and I like to take him there too because there are lots of ppl around him to get him used to new faces. Also I like my mum seeing him to bring a bit of joy to her in this difficult time. Ugh. It's a pickle. Yesterday my husband came with us and even with him in the back seat with him it was no different.

Brobot · 29/07/2019 09:26

@HidCat it's funny you mention hives. I've noticed from day one that Elliot comes out in little hive-type spots that come and go throughout the day. I thought it was just sensitive skin because it doesn't bother him and goes away within half an hour.

HidCat · 29/07/2019 10:55

Thanks guys. @Brobot it's a nightmare when they won't stay calm in the car. I've removed the newborn insert as she was crying and she's been fine ever since. I think she was a bit squashed.

Poor Freddie’s struggling today after his 4 month vaccinations. He’s slept most of the afternoon and was just violently sick. Very unusual for him, he’s rarely brought up any milk. He’s also rejecting calpol so is rather hot. Has anyone else had this?
