@Sheeni @WhatALearningCurve as for the sun, I was thinking about some mums worries when i was out with my little one today. I think it's so hard to completely keep them out of any kind of ray if you want to have an existence and get out of the house during the day in summer! I think it's just about being sensible. I certainly don't expose LO to it but I won't not go out because of it. Maybe I'm a bit too relaxed about it all?!

Wineandchoccy · 07/06/2019 03:06

It was really warm in our caravan when I went to bed so opened the window then I woke up cold now I can’t get back to sleep and Lois is snuffling away in her sleep as soon as I close my eyes I bet she wakes up.

With regards to going out in the sun as long as I am not out all day and try and keep her out of direct sunlight I go out whenever. I have a silver cross pioneer so it has a decent pull down visor plus I have a parasol if needed. When she is in the pushchair part if it is really warm I have a shade a babe which are really good.

Wineandchoccy · 07/06/2019 03:08

I also have a sheepskin liner for the pushchair from here it keeps the pram cool in the warm weather yet is cosy in the winter my dd1 always looked so comfy in it.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever no advice sorry but didn't want to read and run. The only thing i could think of but not sure if it would be ok is to put it on the tilt option? Not sure if he'd just work harder to get to the top anyway haha but all i could think of if he's getting upset by it. Oh just read it was a cot, sorry!

@Sheeni that sounds like good progress! How did you get on last night? It sounds like you could be onto something there and as others have suggested, gradually move him closer and closer to his crib. Sounds like a tough day for him with the tongue tie and blood test and a shame they didnt catch the other tongue tie earlier. Wonder if he'd be better on a bottle now with that snipped?

@cardboard33 that's a good plan actually for swapping numbers with it being the end of a term, thanks! We dont start our other classes for 2 weeks and just have massage on the go for now so i do find some days quite lonely.

@ballanj glad you got some reassurance from my mums experience. My first period pp was so so heavy, leaking through pads all the time and too worried to use tampons for the first one. I didn't go out that week and got my DP to buy me some maternity pads again as normal ones weren't cutting it. The second period was heavy again days 1 and 2, much heavier than pre pregnancy but i was able to use tampons this time round and it ended up pretty much like a normal one, it lasted 7 days which is longer than my pre baby ones. I guess my point is that hopefully by the next one and with the pill too you will be able to get back to some sort of normality. Your app resetting itself made me smile though i imagine how fed up of it you are now!

We sound similar then in the bottle feeding. He was definitely draining 6 for weeks. Sods law now we've moved up to 7 these past few days, some times he takes only 4! But i think he's just more full from the previous bottle. Definitely takes 7 about 3/5 bottles so i think it's right to offer it.

It was me with all the sun worries haha. I feel a lot better now after reading all your replies. @Wineandchoccy i also have the silver cross pioneer but some days no matter where i push him he still ends up with a face of sun and thats around 8/9am ish. I guess the point is to try to avoid being in full sun in the middle of the day and stick to shade where possible. We have a big country park 5mins drive away with lots of trees and a big lake so might start venturing there without DP, guess i haven't before because he seems to start crying without fail after about 20mins in the pram and i end up having to carry him while DP pushes the pram or vice versa which isn't an option alone because of the terrain, the pram would be all over the place. Any advice on the crying in the pram thing? He starts off so happy and is so interested in the trees etc. I think he would be so much happier when he can move out of the carrycot and have a nosy!

kee80 · 07/06/2019 10:36

@melissa112 my little one is the same in the pram. She is fine for about 30-45 mins then gets fed up and cries. I think she just wants to have a nosey around. I was wondering when to change from carry cot mode to upright? I can tilt my carry cot to a more upright position but when I do this she tends to slide down, mine doesn't have straps in carry cot mode

melissa112 · 07/06/2019 17:02

@kee80 wondering that too but when I've looked online it says 6 months!! Don't even think mine tilts and defo doesn't have straps in carrycot mode. This LO is going to love his 6 month mark, food and nosying around!

We've had a proper grumpy day today. Thought he'd come out the other side of his leap but maybe not. Or is there a growth spurt around now? Hes 13wks on Monday and has been asleep most of the day. He's only waking when i have to put him down to use the bathroom or make food and then wakes after 2 mins in the moses basket and starts crying. Instead of being awake for about 90mins inbetween naps, he's awake half an hour then yawning, rubbing eyes and grumpy. Thought if it was a growth spurt he'd be eating more but he's not so no idea. Been a hard one today! Resigned myself to being stuck on the sofa for the next few hours til his bottle so he can just sleep and will just have to wait for the toilet til DP comes home!

melissa112 · 07/06/2019 17:12

Me again 🤣 does anyone else have a baby that hates post bath getting dry? Does anyone else do the thing of cradling them over the bath to wash hair, drying hair, removing nappy then bathing? He screams when his hair is washed then won't settle after drying his hair, removing nappy etc until hes in the bath. Then he loves it. But then we get him out and he screams. It's a shame for him more than anything as he enjoys the actual bath so much but the hair wash before and getting him out just cause so much distress! Also, do we still have to clean eyes with cooled boiled water? Or do you ladies just use normal tap water? I feel like i can't even get bath time right!

Wineandchoccy · 07/06/2019 18:10

@melissa112 with my 1st yes I cradled and washed hair 1st but poor Lois just gets to share with her big sister Grin

WhatALearningCurve · 07/06/2019 18:58

@melissa112 we've got the Angelcare seat so we wash his hair in the bath with the shower hose.

Sheeni · 07/06/2019 19:02

@melissa112 So far we've only washed his head with plain water and he's ok with that in his normal bath. He hates getting out of the bath and screams until he's all dressed up. And I was always terrible with the eye washing and only do it when needed with plain water. I guess it should be ok now that he can do tears?

cardboard33 · 07/06/2019 20:36

We've got a snuggle bath so he goes in there and we've now started throwing tubs of water over his head. We also went swimming for the first time today and he didn't cry, woop! I wasn't aware we were supposed to do anything different with their eyes, he's just had bog standard bath water from the word go! I've just assumed he screams when he gets out due to the temperature changes rather than anything to do with us.

Also think baby will be happier once he can sit in the pushchair seat. One of my friends has a similar age baby and is already using it so I tried it out but he is too thin for the smallest setting on the straps so they fall off him... If it were winter and he had layers on it would be fine though.

ballanj · 07/06/2019 22:08

It's interesting reading all your comments as I was wondering when little one could come out of the flat carry cot of the pram and into the upright seat. He's really filling up the carry cot now but I too thought it would have to be 6 months before he could go into the upright position. I have a silver cross pram (it's a Wayfair or Pioneer I can never remember which one 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Little one has been really grouchy today and not napping as well as he normally does. He was drifting off on a couple of bottles but then really struggling to settle for naps after. He's just over 12 weeks. Is there a leap/growth spurt around this time? He's also been wanting to be upright on me much more and even snoozing upright on me which has been very unlike him the last few weeks. I worry he's sickening for something 🤔

Jenfur · 08/06/2019 17:20

11 weeks over here, think he's come down with a bug because he's bringing up milk way more than normal. Apparently there is some sort of growth spurt and/or leap around 12 weeks, he's been sleeping all the time since yesterday then just waking for feeds and being pretty miserable until he's asleep again.

I've also been wondering about the pushchair as he's so big in his carrycot already, I can't see us getting to 6 months. Our one doesn't lie completely flat so not suitable until 6 months, I was wondering if I'd have to get a cheap one that lies flat but that he isn't too big for, for in the meantime. DH might kill me haha.

kee80 · 08/06/2019 20:19

@Jenfur mines 11+4 weeks and she's been the same, been sick a lot more than usual and also been sleeping lots this week and not very happy when she's awake

Jenfur · 08/06/2019 21:13

@kee80 That's reassuring, thanks. Perhaps it's not a bug and he's just gearing up to something big.

I have a family member that's a midwife and she weighed him for me today and he's dropped from 75th to 50th centile. She wasn't at all worried as he's gained weight and is doing everything he should be but it's got me panicking because my eldest had issues gaining weight at this age. I'm worrying that now he's being sick more, he's going to struggle to gain weight for a few days and that might set him back further but feel like I can't really improve things by feeding him more as he's just more sick then. I've been pretty relaxed about things up until this point and now I'm just fretting.

melissa112 · 08/06/2019 21:43

Thanks for all the comments re bath time. Today he splashed like crazy for the first time and had a blast and again for the first time he didn't scream when we got him out. I put him back on his changing mat to get him dry instead of the sofa so not sure if this had anything to do with it.

George has been sleeping more and bringing up more milk too even though he's been taking less of it which is odd but seems fine in himself. He's been like this for well over a week now and is 13wks on Monday and the past few days has done so much new stuff that I'm convinced all the learning and development is the reason and has tired him out. He's falling asleep at his bottle now and taking well over 20mins so we've bought the next teat size and will see how he gets on. Sounds like a few of us are having similar issues with sleeping more etc and around the same age. It amazes me how in a few days all this stuff just happens, like a light bulb in his head has switched on and he suddenly realises he can do this or do that. He's been sat up on the sofa today with a book on his lap and have a pic of him looking like he's just sat reading it like an adult would, obviously just looking at colours but it made me chuckle. It's all going so fast!

Gronk27 · 08/06/2019 21:46

I have missed loads! I’ve been working odd days and going out for coffees with Mum friends on others whilst trying to keep us all fed and clothed!

We’ve just come out of the third leap. I’m getting worried about having to stop swaddling as to us that is the magic that is allowing A to sleep until 5/6!

She’s on the 50th percentile for weight but the 75th for length do all her 0-3 babygrowd have been on the short side for a while, not sure we’ll get away with it and despite her chubby bits she’s a slight baby so even 0-3 dresses and tops swamp her so can’t really go to 3-6. Chop the feet off?! Grin

ballanj · 08/06/2019 23:07

@Gronk27 I have a friend who also had the same worries as you with swaddling and stopping. Could you try a baby sleeping bag? I've put mine in one of these since stopping using the Sleepyhead in his Snuzpod. I find it keeps him nice and snuggly and perhaps he feels a bit more cocooned which is what a lot of them seem to miss.

WhatALearningCurve · 09/06/2019 05:28

Tonight little man slept from half 8 till 4am- fed him and he's back asleep.

I woke up at 4 to feed him and have been wide awake ever since. The other night I woke at half 2 and was awake till 5. My body just seems to reject sleep now!

kee80 · 09/06/2019 08:11

@Gronk27 my little girl is in a sleeping bag, I started using it when she was about 5-6wks and she started sleeping through from 7 weeks. Not sure if it's due to the sleeping bag but she seems a lot more content in it

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 09/06/2019 10:06

@WhatALearningCurve I know what you mean by your body rejecting sleep. I'm the same! My LO slept from 10-8.30 today and then went back to sleep at 9.15 and is currently snoring away with DH. I woke up before baby did and was laying twiddling my thumbs. 😂 it's good for my productivity though. I've already done 3 loads of washing and hung it all out to dry!

cardboard33 · 09/06/2019 11:10

Can I ask if those of you who have babies that are sleeping through the night now are formula or breast feeding? We are at 14 weeks now and it's good going if we get a 5 hour stint when he first goes to sleep, and then after that he wakes up around every 3.5-4 hours for food during the night, and then wants feeding every 2.5-4 hours during the day. It takes around an hour to feed him so I usually get sleep in 2-2.5 hour intervals. We give 5oz of formula when he goes to bed but other than that I'm breast feeding, and I thought successfully, but now I don't know given all of your babies are apparently sleeping through the night and are (mostly) younger. He weighs just over 5kg, so just under 11lbs and is maintaining a curve around 7-10th percentile.

Gronk27 · 09/06/2019 12:38

@cardboard33 we’re formula and she feeds every 2 hours in the day to tank up for her night I think. My friend’s BF baby is older than mine and certainly does not sleep through, waking a couple of times for feeds. I get the feeling each baby is different and from what I was reading about a baby sleeping through is a bonus and certainly not the norm, that may be no consolation to you whatsoever!

@kee80 @ballanj that’s the next plan, one of the swaddled we have is a sleeping back too. When it was really hot I was convinced she was too hot in the swaddle so put her in a vest with it as a sleeping bag but she’s didn’t sleep as well-but that could have been because she just wasn’t having a good night, was hot or the sleeping bag is light and not snuggly! Think I need to get a 1 tho sleeping bag. The ones we have are hand me downs and I don’t know what they tog they are or they’re 2.5 and our room is really hot.

melissa112 · 09/06/2019 13:13

@Gronk27 another vote for sleeping bags. My LO hated blankets and would constantly kick them off and wake himself up but in the sleeping bag he seems cosy enough. Good idea to get a 1 tog. We have a few 2.5 tog and two 1 togs. Most nights we can't get the room below 20 even with windows wide open as the sun hits our room all day and the grobag guide recommends 1 tog for 20-24. Is there anything on the labels on the ones you have to say the tog? Haha my OH wanted to chop the feet off some of his 0-3 stuff too. How did you find out her height? When we see the HV we never get the option of measuring him, only weighing, but I'd like to know just so I know when to take his newborn insert out of his maxi cosi car seat.

@cardboard33 we are formula feeding. He normally goes down between 8-9pm in his moses basket downstairs after a last feed just before 7.30pm (we try to get him to sleep holding him after this as he's definitely tired but fights it til 8-8.30ish then we can put him down in his basket), we wake him for a dream feed at 10.30 ish then he sleeps til 5.30am but the last 2 nights he's been waking up every few hours in the night. Seems way too young for sleep regression as he's only 3 months on Tuesday. I definitely think it's just a case of each baby being different. I think as long as your LO is following his curve then definitely sounds successful. Not sure if its any consolation but I have a friend who bottle feeds and her baby takes 2-3oz every 2 hours and doesn't sleep through the night either and is a month older than ours.

Gronk27 · 09/06/2019 13:25

@melissa112 no the labels are all washed off! On one visit the HV did her length but it hasn’t been done since. I also know she’s long because she’s grown out of any size instantly just down to her long legs! We’re both tall!
