Hi all, regarding the six or eight week checkup, I had mine and the GP didn't even check my stitches even though I've had them in three places. I couldn't bring myself to ask which is Silly really as I still get the odd twinge down there but I think we're pretty much healed and the midwife had looked at them a few weeks before and said they were fine already!

shiny888 · 29/04/2019 17:16

@melissa112
Bebamour Hipseat Baby Carrier Backpack 5 in 1 Carry Ways Carrier Sling (Dark Blue) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00XJ1XFPE/ref=cmswrcpapii5fYXCb400QMR3

That's the one I use, I love it as it takes the support off of your hips and back and my little one loves being in it and it helps me to get on and do stuff and have her up right because oh her reflux. I do have a wrap aswell but I don't like it as much.
But I can't recommend that carrier enough!
It's horrid because we are exhausted and then battling an overtired baby is awful! I really feel for you so much! Will he settle for your DP at all?

@ballanj regarding the S word I'm still not comfortable wearing non surgical knickers yet so that is way off the cards for us!
Do you feel ready in yourself?

Hermagsjesty · 29/04/2019 18:37

Re the S word we did it for the first time last week (at 7wks post partum) and although it wasn’t at all painful, I found it a bit disconcerting... I got sort of flashbacks to the birth- it wasn’t a traumatic birth but it was a very, very speedy one and I don’t think I’ve had time to process it properly so that part of my body being used again and in a totally different way felt quite strange... I’m guessing that’ll pass in time though...

ballanj · 29/04/2019 18:44

@shiny888 I do feel ready for the S word, only hating on my jelly belly right now, otherwise I feel good to go. I guess it's one of those 'just do it and see what happens' and not overthinking it too much

Gronk27 · 29/04/2019 21:34

@melissa112 @hermagsjesty thanks! It was strange but fun to be working and away from her. We both did fine. I was excited when I was driving home and nearly there and we’ve had some nice cuddles and chats this evening. I’m just absolutely knackered! As for the S word. When DH and I were having a cuddle the other day we both got a bit excited and it hurt! I was like ‘nope’! But I don’t think we’ll be far off.

HidCat · 29/04/2019 21:47

@BadBadBeans I hope you're feeling better. We have had a stomach bug here too - hit baby first, followed by DS then me and finally DH. All have cleared it within 24hrs but breastfeeding through it was beyond hard so I feel your pain!

@Gronk27 hope it all goes well for you!

@melissa112 I hope you're doing ok and manage to get some sleep.

@ballanj not had sex yet but only because I'm not fully healed and don't have my docs appointment til next week (8 weeks). Also waiting for my implant appointment and DH hates condoms so he has to wait a bit longer.

LO just tried to drag my boob across the room! Honestly their mouths are like little tiny, squirmy vices!

shiny888 · 29/04/2019 22:29

@ballanj I'd go for it then if you feel ready. Just take it easy and listen to your body!

@Gronk27 glad work went well! I bet it was nice to be in the adult world again and out of the baby fog! And I bet returning to her was so special Smile

Sheeni · 30/04/2019 03:31

My poor baby struggling so much with the reflux still. Sad
Experienced mums:
Is there any chance this is just due to the development leap and he'll get better once that's done?
If not, how long does it usually take for babies to grow the appropriate muscles and grow out of it/improve?
As I said, we have the 6 weeks appointment on Friday. Should I get him to GP sooner than that or wait? What's the best thing to do in the meantime to help him? He seems to suffer a lot during and after every feed Sad

WhatALearningCurve · 30/04/2019 07:39

@ballanj in regards to tampons - one of the midwives in hospital basically said to withhold using them for a while - she described our insides after birth as "an open wound" (which made me feel a bit ill ha) but it does make sense

The 's word' has been ticked off. It was weird in a way because my hormones sent me off sex at about 15 weeks so it was great to actually feel like me again and feel like I want to be with my partner.

At my 6 week check the doctor basically just asked how I was feeling, if my bleeding had stopped, what I wanted to do about contraception and then checked my scar. But I think she only really checked my scar besides I asked her too - don't think she would have done otherwise as I stopped bleeding weeks ago and don't have pulling and things so told her I was feeling fine

KarBB · 30/04/2019 09:31

@Sheeni I'm not very experienced at all but I think you know your baby best & if you're worried you should go to the GP & ask for help. The check up on Friday will then give you the chance to discuss whether there's been any improvement & cover all the routine stuff too!

melissa112 · 30/04/2019 19:40

@KarBB i wonder why some GPs check as routine but others don't. I'm sure the NHS site says they should check at the appointment. Good that the midwife thought they were ok but I'd definitely ask the doctor to check if you feel the twinges aren't normal

@shiny888 thanks for the link for the carrier, it gets great reviews and good to have another one to research. I think I'm going to try and get to a sling library soon but the one nearest is not til the end of May! He settles for my DP which is good but didn't feel great after a whole day yesterday of being unsettled and grumpy, when DP came in he got loads of smiles and he was calm for a little while. I guess he just caught him at a good time but it didnt hurt a tiny bit! Hope you've had a better day today?

@Gronk27 glad work went well and what a lovely thought that you get to come home to those lovely cuddles afterwards.

@HidCat ouch to the boob dragging!!

@Sheeni I'd say it probably isn't to do with the development leap. George was unsettled during that week but nothing like youve described with reflux or anything. I agree with @KarBB that if you are worried it might be worth taking him to the GP sooner and at least then that gives you chance to try something else if there's no improvement by Friday?

@WhatALearningCurve ah thats good to know about the tampons and glad i haven't used them then! Did the midwife say how long to hold off for?i have a my 6 week check tomorrow at 8 and a half weeks so i can ask then i guess!

My period has been terrible. I've never had one so heavy and having to change the biggest pad loads. I passed this huge sort of 8cm sized thick clot earlier (sorry TMI) and loads of blood and was in a bit of a state as there was just blood everywhere and had George screaming nearby for his bottle but just had to let him wait while i got sorted. I'm so paranoid that I'm going to leak everywhere. I went to get some maternity pads but couldn't find them anywhere in morrisons and the regular biggest flow ones just aren't cutting it!

melissa112 · 30/04/2019 19:41

*did hurt a tiny bit not didn't!

melissa112 · 30/04/2019 19:42

Argh 6 week check is next week not tomorrow..sorry for all the edits. Had a stressful day with period stuff and me and DP have had a huge argument and I'm just feeling really quite stressed Sad

WhatALearningCurve · 30/04/2019 19:53

@melissa112 she didn't actually say how long.......I'm sure you'll be fine by 8 weeks but ask your gp. I think she was making the point more about not using tampons for post birth bleeding

shiny888 · 30/04/2019 20:59

@melissa112 gosh that sounds horrid with you're period! Keep an eye. Is a blood clot that big normal?
Yeah I get what you mean with your DP getting the nice ness as they think you're making up how hard your day was when all the see is them happy and relaxed!
Oh gosh hope you're ok and you and you're DP are ok! Not what you need after a stressful day!
How's your LO been?
If it makes you feel better I've just had a head fit at my DP because little one is in pain and so so much sick everywhere after having gaviscon and was screaming while putting her vest on and I went ballistic at DP for just watching which then turned into me sobbing for an hour - gotta love hormones!

Gronk27 · 30/04/2019 21:27

@melissa112 could it be a bleed like I’ve been having rather than a period? I rang triage for advice maybe speak to midwife/GP or whoever to be on the safe side. X

Adela has just thrown up practically a whole bottle.

HidCat · 30/04/2019 21:43

@melissa112 sorry your period is so bad and you've argued with your DH.

shiny888 · 30/04/2019 21:44

@Gronk27 oh poor thing! Was she upset with it? Is she normally sick?
My LO was sick tonight for the first time ever and there was so much and it was curdled. Looked like formula sick even though she is BF. I think it's the gaviscon they've given for silent reflux as she had that and then an hour later was horrendously sick

melissa112 · 30/04/2019 21:45

@WhatALearningCurve ah ok thanks, I'll make sure to check next week and not risk it this week, to be honest its so heavy i doubt they'd make a difference

@shiny888 I'm not sure. I did ask my mum and she said it was normal (she's had 6 kids so hopefully she knows!) but it did worry me. Oh no, these hormones make everything so much worse don't they! Sorry to hear your little one is still struggling, that must be so hard to see and I can completely see why you got upset. What's the next thing for you if the Gaviscon doesn't work? My little one is ok thanks. I do feel quite sad though as he just seems quite cranky this week and just doesn't want to interact or play. Or maybe he does but he just seems to want to feed, eat and cry. I think my period hormones coming back are partly to blame for the blow up with my DP. I have quite bad anxiety and he just wasn't very understanding this morning and it all went from there.

@Gronk27 poor Adela! Its horrid when that happens isn't it. Hope she's ok! I did just assume it was my period as its been here since Sunday but i I think if i get another clot i will ring just to be sure. Thanks

melissa112 · 30/04/2019 21:47

@HidCat thank you, hes on his way home now so hoping it all gets resolved!

Gronk27 · 30/04/2019 21:55

@shiny888 @melissa112 yes she has quite a bit of reflux but MW said it’s normal unless it’s hitting the wall! Not normally that sick but she’s been fussy all evening, wanting to feed constantly, fighting bottle and breast, struggling to pooh and her timings and feeds are all out. It could be because my Mom has been looking after her so I don’t know exactly what she’s had and when, etc. Or she’s unsettled or it’s totally random! It was a bit upsetting at the time but she’s fast asleep now.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 01/05/2019 05:15

Please look at wide base carriers - it is much better for you and baby. Where their legs hang down from the hip just isn't great for them. Also check the TICKS guidelines and make sure you have them high enough.

Regarding wind etc, it does get better as they grow. DD is much more sticky and windy than DS, though his was much more trapped, but the doctor wasn't concerned at our 6 week check. It is improving compared to when she was littler and, while it is hard seeing them go through it, you just have to support and do your best to help clear the wind for them.

Sheeni · 01/05/2019 16:18

Thanks for advice all. We went to GP today and managed to get Ranitidine for him. I said I didn't want Gaviscon (he's still quite unhappy when pooping and I don't think constipation would help. Also using it when BF is apparently very annoying) and asked if Ranitidine is an option. However, reading online it seems that we jumped a lot of steps and it should be pediatrician prescribing it only, after more thorough assessing. Should I be worried that I'm giving him something "too strong"? Anyone else here using/used Ranitidine? Did it help?

Gronk27 · 01/05/2019 17:12

Does anyone else’s preferred baby holding arm ache? A will not settle anywhere else at the moment but on my left arm. She won’t even frog. It really hurts!!

We went to ‘musical babies’ today. A was a bit young and slept through but good to get out.

MistakenHoliday · 01/05/2019 19:01

@Sheeni we were prescribed Ranitidine by our gp for DD1 without seeing a specialist. They'll have put you on the lowest dose, I'd imagine so there'll probably be some scope to increase too if needed (on their say-so of course!) I think the dose is linked to weight too?
