Hi all,

Just caught up. So A has had a cold. Phoned 111 and they were confident it is just a cold. We’ve been using saline spray, standing with her in the bathroom with the shower on and elevated one end of the cot. I also have a cold now!

I’m also having feelings of ‘failure’ about A’s birth and feeding even though both were out of my control due to infections and tongue tie. I laboured for three days, back labour, with an infection and A in distress then spinal block and forceps. The main thing I’m upset about is how I was treated and the lack of control. Despite all my hypnobirthing! Although I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if I hadn’t have done hypnobirthing.

www.stylist.co.uk/long-reads/what-does-giving-birth-feel-like-new-mum-postnatal-depression-advice/262354 Interesting article about birth!

I think it was a couple of days at home when I started crying because I realised I loved A!

We’ve had the tongue tie appointment today. It was actually very severe and the MW said next time you have a baby call us on day 1! On the one scale she scored 7 out of 14 (with an 11-14 not needing the snip) and on the other scale of 0-8 for how much it was attached (with an 8 being good) she scored 0!! We have to be careful with hygiene, bleeding, temp and she might be out of sorts for 24 hours. Her mouth looks totally different. Have to get back to offering boob, bottle, express now. Need to get to a breastfeeding session ASAP. It was a bit upsetting but worth it. MW was very reassuring. Despite DH throwing milk everywhere!

MistakenHoliday · 20/04/2019 18:10

What's everyone putting their LOs in tonight for sleeping? It's hot here and I can't work out what to do!

WhatALearningCurve · 20/04/2019 18:23

@MistakenHoliday vest and sleeping bag over here!

CaseofEllen · 20/04/2019 18:32

@MistakenHoliday @WhatALearningCurve how hot is it where you are? I find figuring out what to put them in so nerve wracking! Usually I do a baby grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag and the room is around 18° we have a growegg to keep an eye on room temp. @WhatALearningCurve a long or short sleeved vest?

Gronk27 · 20/04/2019 19:33

@mistakenholiday a sleepsuit or vest and grow snug with a thin blanket nearby. Depends on our room but it was 22 last night.

Wineandchoccy · 20/04/2019 20:07

Vest, sleepsuit and a 1.5 tog sleeping bag it’s been 22°c today and still feels very warm.

kee80 · 20/04/2019 20:13

I also worry whether baby is going to be to hot or cold. Last night she had sleep suit and 2.5 tog grobag. Our room was about 22 but we had the window open a little too just for a little air

CaseofEllen · 20/04/2019 20:20

@kee80 that's what we did last night too but I'm thinking a long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog bag tonight as it is very warm still. We have window open slightly atm and it's 20.2 in here Confused

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 20:39

Our room is 23.8 currently! Trying desperately to cool it down and hoping by bed itll be cooler. Thinking 1.0 sleeping bag and vest

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 20:49

Here's a pic of the back of our grobag thermometer which shows recommended clothes and sleeping bag tog if anyone is interested. As our room defo wont go below 20 tonight and short sleeve is recommended on both 20-22 and 22-24 i think we'll stick him in a short sleeve vest with the 1.0 tog. I also get nervous about what to dress him in at night.

CaseofEllen · 20/04/2019 20:49

Think we're all going to spend the night worrying if the babies are too warm or too cold tbh!

Also does anyone who's formula feeding use the Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine? Not sure if it's worth investing in Hmm

kee80 · 20/04/2019 20:50

@CaseofEllen think I will do the same tonight. Not checked the temp of room yet

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 20:51

Not sure if this has posted loads so apologies if it has but its not showing up.

kee80 · 20/04/2019 20:54

@CaseofEllen I formula feed and I had one bought for me.
I ended up selling mine, my health visitor told me that they make the milk quite frothy and some mums who she's seen it's made their babies have quite bad wind/stomach ache so I didn't want to risk it.
She also said something about the temp not staying high enough for long to kill the bacteria in the milk. Not sure if this is right it's just what she told me

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 20:55

@CaseofEllen we use the perfect prep and although we were given it by a friend i would 100%pay full price for it. Its a god send for those night feeds and i wouldn't be without it now. I was always getting paranoid about leaving the kettle to cool for just the right amount of time to not scald the formula but also hot enough to kill the bacteria and this is just so easy. definitely recommend.

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 20:57

@kee80 one of our friends had a perfect prep and their baby had the stomach ache issues too so definitely think there's some babies that it doesn't agree with. We were lucky that George has been well on it

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 21:00

@Gronk27 glad you were reassured after the tongue tie snip and hope little one is ok!

@BadBadBeans I'd be annoyed too. I think as others have said that if you were ok with it then it would be a different matter. My DP occasionally works away overnight but has told them he won't be doing that for a good while now.

Gronk27 · 20/04/2019 21:01

@caseofellen we got one second hand off an acquaintance. It’s an absolute lifesaver for the 2am feeds. We’ll use it more when A is on 120ml as that’s the minimum, otherwise we’ll be wasting quite a bit of formula.

Gronk27 · 20/04/2019 21:10

@melissa112 thanks, Adeia’s been quite fussy and out of sorts bless her but she’s managed to take her bottles and even go on the boob. Lots of bringing up milk bless her.

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 21:27

@Gronk27 oh bless her! Great news that she's been on the boob though, hope she's feeling more herself soon. Can i just say that i love her name!

kee80 · 20/04/2019 21:28

@melissa112 that's good that George is fine with it. I never tried it, I was to paranoid. My anxiety levels have gone through the roof since having baby

melissa112 · 20/04/2019 21:42

@kee80 oh me too. My hands are so dry from overwashing that they are now bleeding 😔 i was anxious while pregnant and though the things i was anxious about now don't bother me, they have been replaced by new fears. I have a small spot in the corner of my mouth that just feels a bit dry but I've convinced myself its a cold sore despite never having had one. DP says it looks nothing like one and my rational head says it doesn't but my anxious head says it does even though it appeared yesterday morning as a spot and is pretty much gone already, no blister etc. And even if it was, the NHS tell me that as long as i don't kiss him he'll be fine but i didn't hold him from 10pm last night until 11am today out of fear he'd grab my lip (and still debatable coldsore) or that my hair would touch my lip and he would touch my hair etc. I was so upset and really missed him. I have been holding him since but all rational thoughts are out of the window.

Sheeni · 20/04/2019 22:19

Sub-question to @MistakenHoliday question. If you're taking the baby out in the pram on these warm days, how do you dress him/her? I'm worried I'm overdressing my LO, as I have him in short sleeved vest + babygro. He seems OK, but I'm still nervous he's hot?

Gronk27 · 20/04/2019 22:22

@melissa112 just noticed that’s s typo lol but it is a pretty cool name, her name is Adela! Sorry you’re feeling so anxious. Hope you get some support. I’ve had to leave handcream all over the house.

Sictransitgloria · 20/04/2019 22:26

Also considered the perfect prep machine. Guidance does advise against them due to the hot water shot not being hot enough to kill bacteria. Also important to change the filters regularly. I live in a hard water area and my tomee tippee steriliser became full of limesclae 2 days after using it! Soooo...not sure if the prep machine would survive?! All the people I know who have used them have sworn by them. I knew of someone who had one in their bedroom and one in the kitchen!
