10 GCSE's!! Smug cow

ok I did pass some, I passed 3, Art and English and English Language, I couldn't get in to college because I didn't have enough, so my older brother (model college student) persuaded them to let me in despite my lack of qualifications and then after 3 months I was expelled. Bummer!

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 06/07/2007 17:21

TA are you some sort of rebel?!

riabutterflew · 06/07/2007 17:22

Am hoping for a bath later so the flies go away. Should have had one this morning instead of wasting my time sleeping!
Think I might have 10 gcses too. I even passed maths. My DHfailed his cooking olevel - such a useful piece of ammunition...

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 17:22

Erm....I don't know. Maybe. Or was, I'm pretty sedate (read: boring) now.

I just didn't like school much.

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 17:25

You have 4 A levels as well?
LOL I feel like a thicky now

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 06/07/2007 17:30

They are rubbish A-Levels, I went to uni and quit, it was shit! You are not a thicky. My dp only has 2 GCSEs and he is much cleverer than me (though don't tell him I said that)!

lilKelBel · 06/07/2007 17:31

OK. I am seriously pissed off.
Took my DD into the GP today because I'm still concerned about her screaming fits/food intolerance. I was given some Gaviscon and told they're not sure but it sounds like just some sort of colic which is not treatable. I asked for a prescription formula and the GP said she didn't know anything about them, I'd have to ask the HV. 3 phone calls with HV later, the GP phones me to tell me that there are formulas available for allergic kids but she doesn't want to prescribe one and possibly make her situation worse, without first getting a paed opinion. Fine. I ask for an expedited appt so that we're not waiting weeks for some relief. GP phones paed, phones me back, tells me that paed feels this is "normal" and special formula is "not indicated."

Meaning, my child's problem is not bloody important enough / too costly for them to do anything!!

So I'm supposed to just sit around while my poor daughter screams her heart out.....or (wait for it) I can take her to A&E. That is apparently the only way a doctor will see us at this point.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFF????????

Am going to board plane to US and get someone somewhere to take us seriously.....

sorry thanks for listening to my long rant. I'm so, so frustrated.

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 17:34

I think formal education can be a little overrated - I certainly haven't suffered career-wise as a result - but in fairness I think education benchmarks are important to compete for employment etc in todays society.

I wouldn't encourage S to be a drop out like I was for example, I think I just got lucky!

(but for the record, I can be a complete thicko moron sometimes)

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 17:36

lilkel what have you tried so far? My LO has colic, he screams inconsolably for HOURS, nothing calms him down and he just goes purple faced and screams and screams and I am left in tears - but we are finding things to help, what have you tried so far?

lilKelBel · 06/07/2007 17:40

tried: cuddles, rocking, singing, swaddling, winding (all varieties), baths, elevated bed, bouncy chair, massage, cycling legs, aptamil, C&G, goat formula, colief drops, infacol, fennel tea, hanging her upside down briefly, osteopath, extending time between feeds, feeding on demand, long walks, and - oh yeah - blardy useless "doctors"....humph.

What works for you guys TA?

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 17:57

wow
ok - we found that swaddling, rocking, leg cycling etc all worked for about 40 seconds then it started again. Feeding on demand also helps (sucking brings comfort) but shortly after it starts again.

All the things you mentioned seemed to work for a short while, but it only provides temporary relief, what you want is for the colic to stop!

Sometimes a bath works for longer.
Infacol DOES get the burps up easier but doesn't stop the colic. Sadly colic IS untreatable really from what I gather but there are lots of things to try.

This has worked (ok, is working AT THE MOMENT!) for us - it's worth trying it at any rate, what have you got to lose?!

Feed every 3-4 hours (whatever your routine is) and burp every 20ml. Use Dentinox instead of Infacol (available from sainsburys) and put it directly in the bottle. Dentinox can only be used 6 times in 24 hours so I use Infacol for the other feeds.
What has bought us the most success though I think is introducing cooled boiled water in a bottle - give in between feeds when they are fussing, it has worked wonders in 'flushing him out' because he was getting all bunged up and sore inside. My HV has given this her seal of approval!

Whenever he is acting up between feeds I offer him water, he only has a few sips but it is really making a difference, his movements are more frequent, he farts easier, thus easing the colic.

It will take a day or so to make a difference but persevere for 24hours+, maybe it will work for you?

I asked about changing formula, lactose intolerance, but I was told that changing formula can bring about it's own problems and to try dentinox and water first.

Also, you can try different teats - we are trying NUK, they do seem to east the colic but are a bit fast flowing for DS and so can make him vom a bit.

Also we put a radio in his room which seems to help settle him too. Oh, and most important, a dummy!!

What else did we try....hmmm...I think that's it!

It's worth a try though hey?

foxybrown · 06/07/2007 18:01

Ria, you are doing well if you have only yelled 3 times. I have yelled and screamed, accidently knocked DS2s dinner on the floor and into my slipper whilst trying to shout at/feed DD, made DS2 cry, burst into tears, sobbed uncontrollably for 10 minutes, apologised to DS2, and was not successful in getting DD to eat anything.

I have 9 O levels, 3 A levels, a degree, had an affair, got pg by accident, got pg again 5 months later planned, became a housewife and had more children. All that money spent on my education as my mother likes to remind me ... its no wonder my mum and I have issues!!!

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 18:02

FOXY! You temptress!

DH is my DH #2, DH #1 introduced us

foxybrown · 06/07/2007 18:03

Now there's a story in there I want to hear.... !!!

trendaverter · 06/07/2007 18:04

I just couldn't help myself.
Anyway you know how it is

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 06/07/2007 18:06

My mum used to tell me I'd wasted my education all the time, then Alice was born and since then she tells me I'm doing a much more important job!

ALice has just eaten a load of metanium cream! She is seriously winding me up!

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 06/07/2007 18:06

Oooo, you scarlet women!

bumperlicious · 06/07/2007 18:08

matilda went to the CO as my mum wanted her to go and had made an appointment, so would have been churlish to refuse. I think they're probably brilliant for colicky / windy babies, but it felt a bit like a waste of mum's money with DD. She slept through the whole thing, and he seemed a bit at a loss as there basically wasn't anything wrong to fix...he just kept repeating back the info i had given him.

lilKelBel · 06/07/2007 18:17

ta u r a star, will try it.

bump i've been to osteo 2x and 2nd time made it worse actually

ur other stories are more interesting than me moaning - sorry - but i'm reaaly just going to throw myself in front of train if no improvement,,,,,

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/07/2007 18:18

lilkel and TA...i read somewhere that white noise can often calm a colicky baby for some reason.....

ie tumble drier, radio static, tv static, hairdryer etc

our friends daughter had colic...according to them you learn to shut out the noise and differentiate between a colicky cry and a hungry/wet/tired etc kind of cry.

not a lot of consolation, but it usually improves around the 12 week mark....so nearly halfway there already lilkel

my dh was my current shags bf (thats best friend not boy friend lol) when i first met him...six months later i met him again and took him home with me. the shag was kind of still on the scene too

lilKelBel · 06/07/2007 18:19

ta, oh yeah we tried bottles galore also (inc nuk) - which formula u on?

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/07/2007 18:22

in fact, the week i shagged dh, i'd gone out to dinner with one bloke on the tuesday, met an ex in the pub afterwards and went home with him instead, then on the saturday took dh home....it was the one week in my life when i acted like a slapper. i still shudder to think of it!
