A new thread for us all

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
babypowder · 25/06/2007 20:53

Good lord, I go away for a couple of days and it's all happening. Congrats on the tooth, Glassy - try not to let the christening thing get to you.

Jabber, hope everything's OK.

I'm still scraping mud off everything at the moment. Spending the weekend at the Outsider festival seemed such a good idea 3 months ago. I will suffer nightmares about the mud and rain for weeks, I'm sure.

GlassSlipper · 26/06/2007 08:06

Ok, so christening is sorted. Thank you, preiest

I was only up 2 x in the night as opposed to 4 or 5 so I feel almost human again.

Thanks for kind words.

Maybe today will be ok.....

castlesintheair · 26/06/2007 08:28

Thanks Jabber Hope everything's ok with you & DH?

3 hours sleep last night. Just going off on school trip now with DS all day with splitting headache and general knackeredness. As the thread title says (there can only be) light at the end of the tunnel. Ha ha

Indith · 26/06/2007 11:33

I'm in PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have a blocked up breast. Thankfully Dr doesn't think it is mastitis so I just have to keep feeding and make use of hot cloths, cold cabbage leaves and breast pumps. Hmmm, hurts like hell though, can't bear to feed on it it is just agony, plus ds has been getting so frustrated at not being able to get at the milk on it he is starting to refuse it. Maybe mastitis would be preferable, at least drugs take care of it!

Ds is also under the weather, has a rash and is sleepy and not really interested in feeding.

We make a pretty sorry pair.

Gah! It hurts! Just sitting here, wrapped up in many layers because I'm freezing (dp in short sleeves so must just be me) with a cabbage leaf in my bra and it is throbbing away painfully. As soon as ds wakes we are having a bath together, hopefully he will feed.

Right now I've finished being all self centred I'm off to read the thread.

Indith · 26/06/2007 11:38

Hope I remember it all!

Castles I hope she is getting used to the helmet, sure she will in time, she won't be able to remember not having it. The light must be there somewhere!

Good luck with work Margo.

Eli hope you are feeling better in your house.

Good luck with the christening GS

Jabber, Bec etc I hope sleep arrives soon.

Freya, relax, I'm sure you know what your baby needs. Do tell us how signing goes, one of those things I mean to do and never get around to starting.

babypowder · 26/06/2007 12:28

Indith, I know this sounds weird, but if you could comb your breast (using a real comb, or even a hairbrush or the backs of your fingers) from the sore area towards your nipple, and then, if you can, have a shower with the warm water directed at the sore bit, that helps enormously. It is agonising, though ... you poor thing

magnolia1 · 26/06/2007 13:03

Jabber hope things with dh get better xxx I know the feeling, me and dh have been a bit bumpy lately what with my tiredness and possible pnd (still trying to avoid ad's) his new job and general crappy things in life really.

Good luck with going back to work margo xxx I am contemplating going back when ds1 is a year but not sure.

So the Phenergan didn't work and ds1 now has Impetigo in his chin He is on antibiotics so am I coz of b/f him and lots of fucidin cream for us both.
Doc has now said to try Piriton with the sleep. I am goign to try for 2-3 nights and If it doesn't work then I am goign to feed him at 11pm stay at my mums round the corner, get back at 6am and let Dh have him for the night with just water.
I need to see if it's just habit waking him as I don't think it's hunger but can't really tell for sure?

BP, Your very brave to cope with rain and mud

magnolia1 · 26/06/2007 13:03

Indith If you are freezing and feeling at all fluey then it's mastitis!!!!

{{{hugs}}} for you xx

Indith · 26/06/2007 13:36

So true BP! I did a thread search and found the comb thing, and feeding with chin closest to blockage.

We have made progress, had another bath, combed, managed to express loads, tried to feed ds in the bath but splashing was more fun so got out and fed rugby ball. He seems to have worked some of it out

The cabbage is good too, from not being able to express at all this morning when I took the leaf out there was a pool of milk in it!

Magnolia thanks, seem to be getting somewhere, hope not mastitis. I had it as a teenager and this does feel different. Probably just tired, that makes me cold

accessorizewithbabysick · 26/06/2007 13:56

Maybe a blocked duct Indith in which case combing and going without a bra will help. I managed to get rid of one a week doing that, as didn't want to keep taking ab's. Tis awful though, feel really dire - hope it gets better soon.

GlassSlipper · 26/06/2007 14:31

Indith - hope it clears soon. I found vigorous massage during a feed helped.

I'm feeling more positive today. I even managed to hoover the living room!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 26/06/2007 14:57

So much going on...

Glassy, it's so easy to fall into a pit of despair when you don't have enough sleep. I hope the hoovering was therapeutic.

I saw you, milkshake, on another thread, if you're lurking,

Jabber & Magnolia- hope everything is okay for you and DH

Indith - Hope your duct clears soon

DD2 has tried some cheese on toast, carrots, banana and strawberries. I don't think I will convince my mum that BLW is okay. She worries about the choking. So she's given her banana porridge. DD1 went to the dentist yesterday for a check up and was very good. Both girls are asleep now. x10000!

I have forgotten to give dd2 formula 2/3 days this week. I only remember once I have whipped them out and proceeded to b/f!

Indith · 26/06/2007 15:13

Cleaning is very theraputic.

Actually I did clean the bathroom and kitchen yesterday as a friend was coming around to visit and I didn't want to reveal how much of a sloven I actually am.

Babysit, pah! Shouldn't have bothered going out! Came home at 9.30 after half eating half a meal as I felt so poo, was a hen do and I had fully intended to go out properly!

Ds managed another feed off the bad side and now gone out with dp.

Still not heard about the job. Ho hum.

magnolia1 · 26/06/2007 15:35

I can' get ds1 to hold food He is nearly 7 months but squeezes it so hard it flings out of his hand or breaks and he screams. So I end up feeding him the bits

jabberwocky · 26/06/2007 16:51

Thanks for the kind words everyone Dh and I have said some pretty terrible things to each other and are now walking around being rather "polite" atm, IYKWIM. I suppose we'll get through it, just a lot of issues that never seem to go away.

Magnolia, ds2 is the same. He loves eating solids but doesn't get any finger-type food in his mouth. I think we'll try the blw thing in a month or so.

Indith, hope you're feeling better. I've had a couple of rotten episodes this time around, was afraid it was the dreaded mastitis. Sounds like maybe you are on the downhill side of it now, tho?

castles, is the helmet getting any easier for her?

eli - keep meaning to say you guys have so many colds Maybe you need to come visit me in the sunny Southern US

margo - are you going to pump at work? can't remember what you said earlier

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 26/06/2007 22:40

Jabber - I won't pump at work, all of our doors have windows on them and we can't cover them up because of security (work in a bank).

I will replace a daytime feed with formula as I seem to feed her a lot in the evening. I have officially packed my pump up.

magnolia1 · 26/06/2007 22:42

I have formula for ds1 when I go to work. I only do 2 hours once a week but go out with my mum one evening a week to and it doesn't affectt my supply

Elibean · 26/06/2007 22:49

Oh oh oh....I can't keep up, now that I've almost finished expressing (only once a day, and thats nearly gone) I have no excuse to hang out in front of the computer! Will have to find new excuse: any ideas?

Jabber, beware - four runny-nosed Brits (well, partial Brits) will be knocking on your door if you go around making lovely offers like that. Sounds wonderful - every time the weather gets cool/wet again here, bang: colds. Sorry to hear things have been a wee bit stressful in the Jabber household - I honestly think that NO issues can get resolved at all during the first 6-18 months of a child's life. Certainly not parental ones. I can't even remember what our issues are - neither can dh, and he's a couple therapist

Glassy, more hugs to you - wish I could send you some sleep vibes, but there are none in our house: we had a few better ones, then dd2 got SO snotty she ended up in our bed coughing and spluttering all night, mostly on me. I hope you get some decent rest tonight, life is so horribly overwhelming without it!

Castles, ditto re sleep for you...hope dd2 is getting used to her helmet, and that you and ds both survived the school outing

Indith, OUCH. If you feel shivery still tomorrow, I'd go back to the GP - know so many women who've had mastitis but not been diagnosed early on. Mind you, if you can avoid ABs, so much the better - but if you have a fever, please go! Hopefully your ds is practising his best sucking techniques to de-block though....

dd2 has been a star napper, but today decided to stay awake nearly all day in case she missed any action. I've never seen such a mix of snot and vivid interest in surroundings - shouldn't a cold make her sleepy?!? Pah

Elibean · 26/06/2007 22:51

Forgot - she's finally a bit interested in solids

And is the opposite of some of your LOs: she can put a teeny crumb into mouth with deadly accuracy. Not boasting, actually rather worrying: bodes ill for dd1s Polly Pocket accessories.

When I say 'interested' though, I mean four spoonfuls of mush or one Heinz biscuit thing. At most.

castlesintheair · 27/06/2007 13:52

Oooh, not chatting, where have you all gone?!

Jabber xxx hope you work things out though very of the sun. It's like mid February here at the moment.

Indith, hope you are feeling better xxx

DD2 has a cold & is teething so her helmet is off but going back on as soon as her temperature has dropped.

I'm trying to find a childminder. Does anyone have any recommendations other than that government childcare website?

castlesintheair · 27/06/2007 13:55

Glassy, not sure of your views, but I went to see my homeopath this morning. The 1.5 hour 'therapy' is a great tonic if nothing else and probably cheaper than going to see a shrink! Hope you are feeling better & getting more sleep.

She told me to offload all the rubbish in my head each night by writing it down (then throwing it away next day). A good tip for all of us who feel overwhelmed. Now I just need to find the time and energy to do it last thing at night

SachaF · 27/06/2007 14:26

Thanks (belatedly) for all the birthday wishes - the sleep was a one timer though
Also a walking zombie here today - think teething and cold combined are the probs! Temp, throwing up, snotty, unable to sleep as can't breathe so he did a lot of slepping whilst I rocked him (upright) in the rocking chair last night
And mum is coming around to babysit tonight so I can go running - may cancel!
Gosh, I am doing so many spelling mistakes it's taking quite a time to write this!
I hope all non-sleeping / non-napping babies are just doing this temporarily and would send sleep vibes but I have none!
Castles, hope the teething is short lived and you can get that helmet back on whilst she is getting used to it.
Ooh, ooh, I have a new nephew today! So we are off on Friday to meet him (total of 5-6 hours driving for a day trip as dh has to work saturday )

babypowder · 27/06/2007 14:56

It sounds like we're all suffering at the moment! I'm down with a nasty, chesty cold, as are both DDs, so little sleep happening here.

Started DD2 on solids yesterday. She had a bit of toast, some roast sweet potato, then snaffled asparagus off my plate. She's ready, then! Must remember to put a liner in her nappy from now on - I had forgotten about the poos

SachaF · 27/06/2007 14:59

ooh yes liners, defo help! i just use them on the day i'm expecting a poo and will wash and re-use them if not soiled - some people will think that is very skinflinty wheras others will think that is better for the environment - well you could think either of all cloth nappy users!

babypowder · 27/06/2007 15:05

Sacha, we expect poos every other hour in this house! I envy other BF mums whose babies only poo occasionally!
