Hi!

Any mums out there with April newborns? If there is already a group going please point me in the right direction!

I’m a first time mum with a 2 week old little girl Smile looking for some people to chat to with similar aged babies!

How are you all doing?
My LO is making saliva bubbles! She is 11 weeks and is going through her third developmental leap. Apparently, that's the cause of the bubbles:) It makes her look very cute:) Is anybody else's baby going through the same leap?

amysaurus87 · 28/06/2018 17:31

I've got a very dribbly little one at the moment! He blows bubbles every so often as well!

He's got quite vocal now and makes the cutest noises when he's happy/in his play gym

He's really struggling with the warm weather though, I can't get him to nap for love nor money. At least he is sleeping at night, but the lack of naps make him so fussy.

Sam91TRS15 · 29/06/2018 18:30

We have a dribbly baby here too. So finally eat to use his cute bibs 😁
The weather has gone a bit rubbish here after a scorcher yesterday, but little man does not like the heat. He just fussed constantly and rarely napped. Not that that made the night any easier 😩
I'm constantly worrying I'm not making enough milk for him now... as much as the constant milk leaking is nice at least it was a sign there was enough!

yustynne · 29/06/2018 23:25

Sam I also have the same worries about my milk. Most of the time my breasts look and feel empty and I wonder if my baby manages to get anything out of them.
By the way, my LO started sleeping long at night without waking up. One time she slept from 11pm to 8am straight. I've been told by midwives to wake her up and feed at least once a night. It is a bit annoying to put alarm 4.30am every night and wake her up when she is deep asleep. Do you have the same problem?
I noticed daytime my DD hates staying in her moses basket even for a second. Where do you normally place your LOs daytime? How do they spend time? I have a swing and a tummy time mat that she hates but she can't stay on these all day long.

ClareB83 · 30/06/2018 03:06

@yustynne I think your midwives are talking bollocks. If she's getting what she needs from daytime feeds and gaining weight let her sleep and thank the Gods!

My boys are either:in bouncy chairs (feeds and short naps), on playmats (maximum 30 minutes before they get cranky), in their cots upstairs (for the big lunchtime nap), in pram or on me.

amysaurus87 · 30/06/2018 03:43

@yustynne totally agree with @Clare if your little one is asleep she's clearly not hungry. I'd only wake her up if she's not gaining weight. If she was hungry she would let you know, my LB certainly does!

We are down to 1 feed at night now, he usually has a feed at about 9 and then wakes up at 3ish for a feed and generally goes back down until about 6 or 7. First time he did this I panicked and woke him up even though he was fast asleep!

I hate this heat, usually I'd love it and be outside sunbathing but my baby boy is not a fan, he's so fussy and clingy but gets to hot snuggled next to me. Never thought I'd ever say this but bring on the cold weather, at least I know what to dress him in for that!

forestftm · 30/06/2018 04:52

@yustynne our LO has been going 11pm-7am for a few weeks now, he's 10 weeks old (although today he has woken up early 🙈)

At first I was concerned about him not feeding at night, but he is gaining weight and I'm sure if he was hungry he would wake!

LO spends his day either in a rocker, on his activity mat, out for walks in the pushchair, having cuddles or in his cosleeper.

I try and play with him, and do things like singing etc, we've also started going out in the garden in the shade this week

Aspenn17 · 30/06/2018 20:01

Exactly the same as forestftm, my LO has been sleeping 11-7am for a few weeks now and I don’t wake her up for a feed, I just make sure she breastfeeds loads in the evening and then I give her a bottle which I’ve pumped as her last feed so I know for certain she is going to bed nice and full. And she is putting on weight nicely so I’m making the most of the sleep, fully aware the sleep might vanish once she starts teething!

We’re in our new house! And baby girl decided moving day was a good day to roll over for the first time!! 🙈

No one is going to believe me but my youngest twin just rolled over!!! He's also being super difficult to put back to bed but how can I be annoyed at him when he's just done this trick for the first time!!!

ClareB83 · 01/07/2018 02:11

Oh wait @Aspenn17 I just read your post, wow another mover!!

I am desperately jealous of your babies sleeping through the night though. We just had our earliest night feed yet - 1am. Feels like we're going backwards as it was after 3am for a while.

Fieau · 01/07/2018 09:21

My little boy will be 10 weeks tomorrow, and he tends to sleep from about hair nine to four or five am, then wake up every hour and a half to feed until about half eight. I don't actually get that much sleep as my boobs Havent adjusted yet and it's agony when he goes that long between feeds.

He is also very dribbly, I've put it down to the fact he has discovered his hand and spends most of the day trying to shove his entire fist in his mouth!

yustynne · 02/07/2018 07:32

Last time I weighed my DD, she put on only 40g which is almost not gaining any weight at all. I'll go to check her weight this week again and see if she made any progress after waking her up every night for a feed two weeks in a row. If not, I'd rather leave her sleeping as it could be another reason why she isn't gaining and I may need to top up with formula. I'll see what this week brings. Good to know that your LOs also sleep so long through the night and it means I wouldn't do anything wrong leaving her to sleep. By the way, do you do anything about your breasts at night when such a long gap appears between feeds? Do you just wait or pump?
Congratulations on first roll overs! How many weeks are your babies?

ClareB83 · 02/07/2018 08:04

My babies are 9 weeks, but 4 corrected for their prematurity. I'm never sure developmentally when to count from. HV thought somewhere between the two.

The last two nights at the night feed both boys have been incredibly awake and alert. They have gone back to sleep (albeit the little one then keeps waking up again), but it's really weird.

We do dim lights, low engagement etc but still they're weirdly awake. Any ideas on what's going on?

amysaurus87 · 02/07/2018 08:39

@yustynne I wait, but if it looks like he's not going to wake up I express both sides for about 10mins each just to relieve some of my discomfort, and then that way if he does wake for a feed I still have milk for him and I'll freeze the expressed stuff (He's not a fan of taking a bottle from me and hubby needs sleep as he works)

@Clare my LB is the same sometimes, dim lights, little to no interaction and he'll be wide awake the second I put him back in the cot! I've started to rock him when he's feeding off the second boob and its worked for the odd night. It might just be the weather that's keeping them up. My little one last night had a feed at 11, that finished so I put him in the cot and he just have startled himself as he woke up screaming about 15mins later and proceeded to scream on and off until 1am! I'm blaming the weather for all of it!

amysaurus87 · 03/07/2018 19:48

Anyone else totally over this hot weather? Any other time I'd be loving it, but with an 11 week old that has decided he doesn't like sleeping or napping anymore it's driving me crazy.

forestftm · 03/07/2018 21:09

@amysaurus87 yes me too! Got a LO who is not a fan of this weather, very grouchy, crying a lot.

I'm from a rural area and been getting hay in in this heat! Absolutely ridiculous! Shouldn't moan too much though.

Just trying to keep LO as cool as possible, fan, damp flannel clothes, minimal clothing! That's about all us mums and dads can do atm

ClareB83 · 04/07/2018 04:02

I'd like to think my twos bad sleeping is the weather but I'm managing to keep the house pretty cool (river breeze) and as premies they've always preferred things a little warmer. It's only 21 degrees in their room right now.

amysaurus87 · 04/07/2018 11:27

My little ones room hasn't dropped below 23 for the last week or so, he's sleeping in just a vest and blanket over his legs.

I'm spending the next few days at my mum's and hoping the room I'm in will be cooler, I'm taking our GroEgg to keep an eye on the temp

Sam91TRS15 · 06/07/2018 08:28

😩 I'm so jealous f the sleeping through! I thought I had non sleeping babies due to breastfeeding but they just don't like sleeping... LO will get up any time between 11 and 1 and then he is in our bed and feeding minimum every hour! (And he was going to sleep at 7 for a while but it's back to 10pm now). Luckily I'm used to no sleep 😂
Even in between loads of feeds if my milk comes in a lot on one side it just drips out.. but I know he will be up for a feed not long after.
Any one have tips for getting breastfed babies to take a bottle?

ClareB83 · 06/07/2018 12:19

They say to get your other half to do it so they can't smell the breast milk in you. Also they may refuse for one meal but they won't hold out long if hungry.

ClareB83 · 06/07/2018 12:22

Also you can get collection shells to catch the breastmilk that leaks out of the other boob.

Eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000MMQO60/ref=mpssa117aa_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1530876013&sr=8-7&keywords=breastmilk+catcher&dpPl=1&dpID=51FGc37Vr7L&ref=plSrch

amysaurus87 · 07/07/2018 15:19

I think my 11 week old is trying to roll over, he seems to be spending time on his side now even though I put him on his back.

He's doing this at night as well should I be worried about him sleeping on his side?

Sam91TRS15 · 08/07/2018 12:14

@amysaurus87 my lo has been lying on his side since he was born and we've never had any problems. He ends up in our bed snuggling into my back every morning (or every time he wakes up for feeds 😂)

amysaurus87 · 09/07/2018 13:28

Phew! I was worried as sometime he's right up against the side of the travel cot, thankfully it has mesh sides so he can still breathe! I think he'll be glad to be back in his normal cot tonight! As it's right next to me!

forestftm · 10/07/2018 22:04

@amysaurus87 my LO has started rolling on to his side at night in his cosleeper as well. He seems to really enjoy rolling on to his side, I keep putting him on his back but within seconds he's rolled again 🙈
