Not offended ellie they are very pikey, i love that word.

If you are brave enough to go in there are some bargains around, can be a bit on the scary side tho!

Pinions · 15/05/2007 20:02

My mum is here and we are just on the brink of our first argument, after 7 and half hours re a christening.

Katy44 · 15/05/2007 20:10

Oh no
My mum's coming on Thursday, she's lovely and really wants to help without interfering, but I still know I will be talking through gritted teeth by the end of the day! I really have to try not to, she's had a really hard time recently and is so excited about her grandson! (And she's lovely, which I only really appreciated after reading MN posts)
Well, the dummy experiment has been a complete success. We've used it twice now when he's just wanted to comfort suck and the transformation is amazing!

Pinions · 15/05/2007 20:13

Off to search for more recipes god WHAT is wrong with me, has anyone else got this mad domestic goddess streak at the moment???

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 20:45

Evenin' all!

zazas · 15/05/2007 20:47

Maveta - where do I buy those wambamboos nappies?? We are using bamboo ones and fleece ones (2 sorts) but I bought them from Lollipop so they are branded with their name so I am not too sure which ones they are similar to. Also a pure cotten one which looks cute but seems to leak...

Impressed by all you guys expressing I am absolutely pants at it - I never leak a drop of milk and when I try to express I am lucky if I get any. Maybe I am not doing it right??!!

Baby has been asleep since 7pm and is now rooting for a feed so had better go! Have already fed the 6 of us - endless this nourishing thing!

Pinions · 15/05/2007 20:53

5 kids zazas how do you do it the mind boggles??? and did you say working aswell!

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 20:55

Octo - Yes, we have a few Easy Peasy Bumpers in stock .... you interested?? (Ooooh, I feel like a right dodgy back street dealer!! )

SOKL - My DD (born prem, horrendeous feeder) was on Omnio Comfort for a while - good stuff, but BLOODY expensive and absolutely STINKS - worth giving a trying though .... Oh, it is v.goopy and hard to wash out of bottles .....

LOL @ ellie saying I the resident "expert" on expressing - Sounds like KHIN has got more of handle on it than I have - Big Up Respect to you's!! ATM, I express a feed a day (shouldn't give baby more than one bottle in 24 hrs til they are 6 week-ish - just to get BF properly established, prevent nipple / teat confusion etc etc) I pretty much do what ellie suggested - I express when I have given a bottle, or I feed off one boob during the night and express from the massive great big bowling ball that is my other boob in the morning!! I find expressing doesn't take as long as giving a feed. I take about ten mins to get a 6/7oz feed to use. Don't worry about your boobs "running out of milk" COS THEY CAN'T - As long as they are being used regularly, you will NOT run out ....Erm, there's probably more I could waffle on about; but ask Q's if you want .... I am no expert by any means though!! I think some people can express / some can't .... just the way it is ..... Also, some get more milk out if they hand express (I can't do this at all) and some get more if they use a manual / electric pump ..... It is all a v.personal thing .......

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 20:55

Zazas - YOU ROCK!!!!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 15/05/2007 21:13

Hiya ladies. Zaza's is SUPERWOMAN!!

Well, took K to the GP's and she thinks it is colic which I have to say I don't agree with. Ahe has told me to try upping the Infacol for 2 weeks, then if that doesn't work to try Colief for 2 weeks after that. Then, if we are still having trouble then to go back and she will look at the Gaviscon option.

Nightmare!

It is NOT Colic I am sure of it. She shows classic signs of mild reflux imo.

Anyway, we shall see, but can't see us lasting 4 weeks unless of course what she has suggested does work.

K currently lying next to me sucking on a dummy. Trying to put her off having another bottle just yet! Poor lamb, she is frantic tho, so cannot put it off too long.

CD, thanks for the note re Omnio Comfort. I have bought some today, and it was the same price as the Aptimil in Asda. I have heard good things about it, apart from the poo the babies produce. Sorry - I have an obsession with poo. Did you find your dd had yukky poo?

Hope everyone is ok and not having too bad a time.

Need to go to bed as am knackered and feel as if I am coming down with a cold - sore throat and ruddy headache.

Night Night all. xx

Bugmum · 15/05/2007 21:23

Quickie post here:
HV came today and weighed the baby; in 17 days, he has gone from his birth weight of 7lb 15 to...9lb 10 What a little fatty!!!! Mind you, much respect to those of you who had a big baby in the first place.

Katy - Not meaning to be mysterious (realize it read that way! ) but it thankfully isn't relevant here, as the issue I am really uptight about isn't relevant to babies (unless you are a nutter - not you personally, you understand!).

Pinions - Ah, am glad your worries are all about what you want. I got the wrong end of the stick when I saw you were hiding from the bf mafia. That's the trouble with reading the threads so quickly

CD - Isn't it funny how some shortenings of names just work and some don't? And even if you like/dislike a shortened form, that doesn't mean it will suit/not suit a particular person. Glad you like 'Gabe', as I love it and it does suit him

Still got my infection. Third lot of treatment now We are a sickly lot, aren't we?

Love to all
xx

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 21:28

....oh yes .....I had forgotten about the minging poo Omnio Comfort also produces ..... Enjoy!

Bugmum · 15/05/2007 21:28

SOKL - Why are some GPs so CRAP? It really annoys me. I have a lovely one, but the surgery is massive, with loads of docs, and it isn't always easy to see the one you want. Hope you and K find a solution soon
x

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 21:29

I'll 2nd that!

maveta · 15/05/2007 21:34

Zazas - you can buy wbbs off makesachange or I think flamesparrow sells them too.. but she might just do tie-dye ones.. her page is bumfluffnappies, I think, her ad is in the small business ads bit.

CD - do you really get through 6/7ozs in one feed? I was looking on kellymom to get an idea of how much he might need (have only managed to express about 2.5ozs) and it seemed to be saying a one month old baby eating at the rate my 2 week old does would be taking about 4ozs per feed so less for my boy. Obviously I´ll see how it goes tonight and just top him up from my boob if he wants it but can anyone give me an idea of how many ozs ebm theirs drink??

octo · 15/05/2007 21:50

Zazas - I found the dark red (you may have turquoise) fleece nappy is not absorbent enough really, the other fluffle like one is great, the nice cream cotton organic one is nice and the bamboo one is fab too - I have a wambamboo/bambineo and it is very similar to the lollipop one - but maybe slightly bigger.

Eddas - you go girl - would love to be life and soul of party - more life and soul of bed LOL - not even in a sex kind of way

CD - yes need another bumper - boy colour and not nippa if poss.

Katy44 - glad the dummy worked. I also know my mum would be a help but really cannot bear the thought of her staying at the moment!

Bugmum - sorry to hear you have another infection - hope is clears up soon.

Pinions - no domestic goddess around here ...
though am bloody good at using the washing machine!

SOKL - what a song and dance with the colic/reflux - can he not have it anyway rather than suffering for another 4 weeks - just a thought - not very helpful I know - but it makes me cross when medics faff about like that. So many times I have taken one of the boys to the docs and said he has x or y and they say oooh nnoooo - then two days later we are back again and they say ooohhh yesss - if they listen in the first place it would be sooo much easier. Ooh rant over!

Must go get some sleep zzzzzzzzzzzz

eca · 15/05/2007 21:50

hey ladies

Doing a bit better today. Boob is seriously infected, but I'm managing to keep the fluey symptoms down with paracetamol and am popping the antibiotics. Last night wasn't as bad as I feared it might be. T had just one feed 2-3pm and dh really helped out. Seriously praying I don't get one of those absess things that has to be drained with a needle/cut. Mil had one years ago and said it was awful.

bramshott We've not tried a bottle yet, but are sterilizing stuff today to give it a try. Feel the same about wanting them to be able to feed from it (prob. later on) but not really wanting the hassle. MW told us to introduce a bottle between 2-6wks to have the best chance of them taking it and also get dh to feed with bottle as lo associates you with bf

zazas at bf in meeting! Well done lady

CD how much do you express for a feed??? I'm not sure how much is right. Just seen that you've put 6/7oz. Am confused about warming it. What do you do? Straight from the fridge? Room temp? (do you leave it out for an hour or so then before the feed??? or microwave? If so how long?????? Ahhhh... It seems so complicated!!!

LesleyR at kids throwing stones!! I think something similar happened to Emmymummy a while ago. (Could have got that wrong and it was someone else??)

bugmum at bf doing Okey Cokey!! I can't flippin move when I'm bf. Am pinned to the bad Maybe if the pain goes I could become a bit more mobile

maveta good to see you and lovely to hear you're sounding so positive in the face of bf probs! Well done hon lol at 2 loads of washing! Sounds brilliant!

katy - have you tried putting a hot flannel on your boob just before and while you're using the pump? I found that helps for me.

pinions hope you had a better day bf hon. lol at reciepe hunt. I have phases like that too

hope pesha is doing better today xx

re:dummies... not using one here, but as ooogs said 'never say never'

Phew, think i just about caught up there, oh, SOKL hope that you have a better night with K and that the doc was helpful.

And nutty AHHHH at crappy docs! I am SICK of them

Sorry to anyone I've missed, thinking of you all.

Now I'm feeling guilty at having sat infront of laptop for ages and sis is here visiting. Eeeek.

eca · 15/05/2007 21:55

SOKL - just seen doc wasn't helpful

zazas · 15/05/2007 21:57

Sure ain't no superwoman! We only have 5 kids with us about 40% of the time as DP kids (DS 7 and DD 6) live with their Mother. Still it's most weekends (fri - Mon) and once through the week. Quite fun actually! But yes I am working as well - if I didn't poor DP would have a nervous breakdown, our business would fold and we would be on the street Manage to fit it in most nights at the moment but I don't think I have had more than 5 hours in total any one night since the baby arrived - ouch! Ho, hum there are advantages though...

Personally I am more impressed by all you 'expressers' - now that is something I find hard to manage!

Kneehighinnappies · 15/05/2007 21:57

Hey oooggs try not to feel bad re the dummies at the moment just think of life with Dt's as anything goes, I am doing loads of things that arn't the way i would usually do things but trying not to beat myself up over it and leaving every option open.
I think you are doing fantastically well [[hugs]]
And don't forget i am only an email or phone call away fi you need to chat.

Kneehighinnappies · 15/05/2007 21:58

not "fi" "IF"!! off to bed now Dt's are asleep yea

maveta · 15/05/2007 22:01

Wow Eca and Octo - good effort on replying to so many people´s posts! Definitely on the ball, much more than me!

Eca - sorry you are having a rough time of it re. bf-ing.. I kind of know how you feel, although it hasn´t got as bad as mastitis yet (poor you!), I feel like with the tongue tie, cracked nipples, now thrush AND I´m sure I´ve got that Raynaud´s thing as well (I have it in my fingers anyway and when I was pregnant I noticed a similar thing in my nipples which became extremely painful when I was out in the cold - I just didn´t know you could get it in your nipples)..it´s like.. is there ANYTHING ELSE that could make this more difficult??! But I really really want it to work...

chin up and hope it all gets better soon x

octo · 15/05/2007 22:12

Maveta - is first time in 4 weeks have managed a post like that! Think you are doing a great job with Noah - don't feel under pressure to do stuff - take it easy at home and rest as much as possible - will really benefit both of you. Try to have some down time where you are not thinking about all the baby stuff - maybe go for massage or drink with a friend and get dh to watch Noah - even if just for 1/2 hour. But be warned - now you have a baby - it really is all you talk about! Hope that doesn't sound too patronising - not meant to be - just being in pain and having a newborn - esp your first - is really really tough and things get on top of you really quickly. I worry about stuff with Ernie and the thrush was agony (much better now) - but atleast I've got some experience to fall back on and know how I feel about stuff e.g. feeding/sleeping/crying and whose advice I value/trust (no offence to anyone btw!)

ooh - that was a long post for me!

CaptainDippy · 15/05/2007 22:13

I'm working on Tues pm Octo - want me to see what I can get - Not sure of their current stock as I've been enjoying my two weeks of "maternity leave"!!

Maveta - 6/7oz is just sort of "what comes out easily" if that makes sense, she often doesn't take the last oz or so ..... All babies are different in the amount they will take for a feed .... some over-feed, some are "snacky" feeders, just take just the right amount and burp and settle easily - I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!!!!

Eca - I take mine (EBM) straight from fridge, warm in the Microwave for about 40 secs (our microwave is crap, a good microwave would nuke the milk in 40 secs!!) then I shake the bottle to get rid of "hot spots", check on arm and pop in mouth.....

nuttygirl · 15/05/2007 22:15

SOKL - sorry to hear docs were so crap with you aswell. perhaps they all take an oath to make us suffer for a while?????

Eca - hope the mastitis clears up soon with the a/bs.

Ellie - I'm going to parents on Thursday, no idea when I'll be back. Might just be a few days or maybe just over a week.
