Hi not really expressed much although have found it a lot easier this time (not bothered with pump, maddaged boob before hand, expressed from one whilst feeding from other all good tips) But you're alos probaby best bearing in mind what time of day to seem to find bfing easier - I'm gnerally dripping middle of the night, but low supply early eve... you know your body best - just go with the flow (er, sorry!) as it were!
Didn't have time to check - did any one mange any pointers for ring sling positions as cradle hold seems ever so squished and I need to sort it before the weekend, as Twickenham don't allow pushchairs asnd Wasps are in the final to win Europe (oh pleaaase!)!!

lazyemma · 15/05/2007 15:48

"I notice someone said they used one and then put 'cringe' - I say be BOLD in your choices! Not saying everyone should rush to like or use dummies but if you do (as I do, and with DS1 it made all the difference - less so this time so far), then be out and proud "

Bugmum lol - that was me! I was suggesting a dummy to Sexonknackeredlegs as her daughter sounds v. similar to mine, and I found a dummy works wonders to soothe her in the evenings when she's rooting away frantically but not hungry.

I put "cringe" because I've taken some flak for my own decision to use a dummy from various people RL. And I had my own negative associations about them formed, natch, before I had a baby of my own, so I guess I was responding to my own inner critic as much as anyone! But I take your point: I will be out and proud from now on, I promise.

mammyjo · 15/05/2007 15:54

Lol Lazyemma!!

Waspelly, I think it was Ellie who said about trying the upright hold in the ring sling. It was me who originally said about the baby being squished. Looking at the instructions the baby kind of sits into the sling with their front facing you and their head up on your chest. Havent tried it myself yet but sure Ellie uses it.

Katy44 · 15/05/2007 15:59

Well all my dummies are sterilised and ready for use! Just need him to cry now
Not planning to use it every time he opens his mouth, but when he's fed, changed, cuddles and just crying for something to suck on - it's less restrictive than my finger!!

maveta · 15/05/2007 16:13

Okay well I gave expressing a quick whirl.. got 1.5 ozs out of one boob in about 3 mins.. is that good or bad? Didn´t manage to get ANY out of the other one though and when I tried the first again it wouldn´t play ball so all I have for my efforts is that ickle 1.5ozs. Poo. Have saved it in the fridge and will try to add to it later to see if I can build it up for the middle of the night feed.

BTW.. it is the night feed I want to use it for because with this thrush and everything I find that one the hardest and most painful.. how do I warm up the milk (I have no microwave)? Should I leave it in the fridge or take it out before I go to bed so it can warm to room temp? And can I then give it to him like that or does it need to be warmed further? How do I know when he´s had enough? (given that when bf-ing I have to pull him off after 10mins each side or he´d eat until he exploded?) Too many questions I know but HELP!

Sterilising.. I´m not going to go too crazy with it either, while we´ve got thrush I´m sterilising his dummies once a day and trying to rotate them a bit more than we were doing but it´s just a case of whacking the steriliser on in the morning and then taking stuff out as we want it. I´m not paying any attention to the concept that its only sterile until you open it.. sod that. As far as I´m concerned, once sterilised it´s fine in there until it falls on the floor or something

maveta · 15/05/2007 16:15

And OH. MY. GOD. how much more time consuming is everything when there´s only one of you?? Dh went back to work yesterday and boy have I noticed it.. The only housework I have managed is two loads of laundry, one of which is STILL waiting to be hung up

mammyjo · 15/05/2007 16:24

Hey, at least you managed the two loads!!

mammyjo · 15/05/2007 16:30

Maveta, dont think I would leave the milk out of the fridge although someone else might say you can. You can warm it by standing the bottle in hot water. Takes a good few mins to do but it will warm it eventually! I would think that when he has had enough he would just stop feeding although having said that my ds never did! He would keep going until he was sick - nice.

maveta · 15/05/2007 16:36

Mammyjo - that´s what I reckon! AND I´ve just hung the other load up so I have definitely, officially, done two loads today..woohoo

Hmmm.. guess it could be a pain heating the bottle up in the middle of the night but those feeds are SO painful right now anything has got to be better. It only has to be lukewarm though, right?

oooggs · 15/05/2007 16:38

very anti dummy household here

BUT................

guess who drove 8 miles to Tesco (in tears) at 4am to buy a selection, was at wits end.

Now we use them early evening/night when needed. Erin isn't bothered but they have really helped Jack with his colic.

Never say never

last night was exhausting I am on autopilot

Thanks for email KHIN will reply as soon as I can put Jack down and sort James out

maveta · 15/05/2007 17:34

Okay, I now have 2 ozs ebm.. a little bit more and I might just manage to cover the night feed after all.. yay! Off to the pharmacy now to look for some different teats, the one that comes with the avent bottle looks a bit hard.

I was reading up on this on kellymom and it says not to bottlefeed in the cradle hold like when you breastfeed.. how should I hold him? Obviously they are too little to sit even remotely upright? What do you guys do?

Eddas · 15/05/2007 17:58

Hello everyone, not been on for a day or so and have tried to catch up

Re dummys well i used one with dd and do with ds, bloody lifesaver. If anyone says anything to me I just give them my 'look'[winl] Did you know that 'they' say that dummys may help prevent cot deaths so i'm all for them and they do help keep them quiet. Both of mine love to suck and i have to sya i think a dummy is more hygenic(sp) than my finger!

I thought i'd have terrible trouble weening dd off hers but she was fine. Stopped her using it during the day first(except naps) and then eventually told her she souldn't have it at night when she moved to her 'big girls bedroom'. So even if your lo gets very attached(as dd did) you may not nescessarily have a fight to get rid of it!

Can't bare kids that talk through the dummy though DD always took it out or i ignored her!

Can't contribute on the bf/expressing convo as i am a ff! But with sterilising I do think you can go OTT with it all. I always sterilise the bottles and dummies but never sterilsed dd's feeding stuff as they say you should. All a bit much really and they do need to get germs to build up their immunity, well that's my excuse anyway

My god did I make a fool of myself on sat night! Haven't been out in a while for obvious reasons and went out for a friends bday and got a bit too drunk Apparantly I saw a work friend but have no recolection and I fell over and was the life and sole according to the bday gril, whatever that means Presumably talking shit to everyone for the entire night, oh well I don't get out much!

nuttygirl · 15/05/2007 18:01

Lesley - at your windows getting broken.

and I'm not too fussy when I sterilise...I don't have any pincer thingys to use for the teats . I just shove em in with my hands .

Am fuming with the docs. DH has had to take afternoon off work cos I'm in pain. Went to see doc and all she's bloody given me is some useless painkillers and some gel to rub on. Then she came out with the comment "Well I'm confident you wouldn't have damaged it giving birth. That wouldn't have happened."

So am planning to go up to my parents for a bit on Thursday so mum can help out. It also means I'll get out a bit more cos they live in a small town and it's not far to go. All my relatives live there so there'll be lots of people to see!

It does mean I'll be without MN til I get back so keep the emails coming Ellie or I'll never catch up!

nuttygirl · 15/05/2007 18:05

lol @ your drunkeness Eddas . My sis went out the other week and got drunk...she fell over her garden fence into a chimenea (sp?) thing then when she went up the stairs to her bedroom she somehow ended up in the bathroom and fell into the bath

Pinions · 15/05/2007 19:16

Just to let u know the bargain of the day ( and i like my bargains x)

NETTO - 6 PACKS OF PAMPERS WIPES FOR £6.00

I GOT 3 BOXES SO HOPEFULLY KEEP ME GOING TIL XMAS (YET RIGHT).

And Bugmum yes i did read your post thanks, and the only reason that i would be gutted to stop bf is cos I want to. For weight loss as much as anything else .

Thanks for your thoughts tho x

oooggs · 15/05/2007 19:20

what's netto?

ellenkpa · 15/05/2007 19:20

maveta
firstly, no, you shouldn't leave the milk out but there are no rules to say it has to be warmed. Matthew would take bottles straight from the fridge, this is qite unusual but worth a try to start with, then just take the chill off if not. there is no need to warm it at all, breast milk straight from the boob is at room temp, not warmed!

secondly, I bottle feed in exactly the same hold as i breast feed in, have never had any problems, tho i guess his head is in the crook of my elbow rather than up at my breast.

ellenkpa · 15/05/2007 19:33

if it wasn't like Aldi and Lidl (v cheap shops, known round here as pikey shops ), then you may have been offended that i was suggesting you shop in such down-market places
