Hi and welcome new ladies!! OK so there does seem to be a possibilty for successful met ups, at some point over the weekend I shall compile a list of where people are so we can see it on one post.
I'm happy to organise a London/ SE meet up if you like, August is best for me too as back to work very soon. It's all looming quickly.

Welcome new ladies!

Am I the only one in the middle of the country? And why can I not sleep at this time? DP gets up at 4 but there's no need for me to stay awake especially since LO is sleeping

DP took an extra two hours last two days to get home, so we are a bit like ships passing in the night. We had quite a few road closures with floods and apparently the fire brigade had to evacuate people by boot from a pub. Am so glad we had the roof replaced last week and not this week!!!

Have a good weekend all!

suzi2 · 16/06/2007 10:56

Hello to the new ladies. Suis, I'm in Sitrling a lot as my DHs parents live there so perhaps we could all arrange a meet there.

Tried osteopathy (several sessions) when she was younger. Never heard of a baby fleece... must google it! She won't be swaddled though so the miracle blanket we had for DS never got used.

Right, I'm going to jinx it now... another rough night. BUT, I put her in her hammock, with her womb sounds and dummy the same as I do every morning while I sorted DS out. She grumped a bit, as she always does, but instead of hitting full blown hysteria requiring me to bounce or feed her to sleep, she nodded off . Please please please please please let this be the start of it. We are also trying Bach Rescue Remedy with them both (and me!) but I'm not sure if that's helping.

So a rare moment here. Both of them are in their beds at the same time

Welcome mik and daizydoo, where are you hoping to move to?

daizydoo · 18/06/2007 10:58

Moosma - we are planning to move to Gloucester. Its where I was bought up, seems wierd going home!!

Is anyone going back to work soon and planning on exclusively breastfeeding? I'll be going back 3 days a week and dont know if I'm being a bit ambitious as my LO feeds quite alot!

daizydoo · 18/06/2007 12:31

oops should have qualified my statement there - not planning on taking him to work to breastfeed - was hoping to express enough to keep him going while I'm at work!?

peachygirl · 18/06/2007 17:40

dazydoo I'm going back in two weeks and hoping to express enough for DD to have BM.
I've been expressing and getting piffly 50mls out at a time which I have put in the freezer. I'm hoping that when I get to work the lack of baby and missing feeds will mean I will be getting out lots more to freeze for the next day.
I don't mind if she has the odd bottle of formula though. I'm going back full time til the end of the school term then going three days in september.

My buggy was picked up by Kiddicare today. Remember me saying I was hankering after another (although I do like it) well, that very weekend the handle broke!! I have no idea if it can be mended or i they will give me a new one. If I did get a new one I might try to sell it. It seems their turn around for repairs is only a couple of days but if it has to go back to silver cross then it could be up to 4 weeks, so I will know what will happen with it by (hopefully )the middle of the week and if it is going to be a long time then I will have to get something to tide me over. I am watching a couple of micralites on ebay.
Any more takers for the meet ups?? I think we shall keep the lists open for a while .

OP posts:
suzi2 · 18/06/2007 21:04

daisydoo - if you can't express enough to cover her feeds, you might find that she feeds far more when you're there and less when you're not. It's known as reverse cycling I believe if you google it.

babydriver · 18/06/2007 22:12

How is the LO sleeping suzi2?

Ours is totally erratic. On Friday night, he was awake hourly, but last night he had a feed at 11 and then slept through to 4:40 and then settled back till 7:30. Teething certainly not helping - he was a grumpy little monster all day Sunday.

We went to a weaning workshop last week - meant to mention it before. I went to see if anything had changed since last time round, but apart from the stuff about waiting longer before starting it was all pretty much the same. I was going to ask about baby-led weaning (BLW) but the HV was a full-on pureeing person and I couldn't bear to get into a great long discussion. BTW if anyone else has been looking into BLW DH noticed a piece on the BBC website today in the Health section - here's the link if it works: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6762795.stm .

Gotta go, LO waking up (again).

suzi2 · 19/06/2007 08:43

sleep? what's that? Isla was up every hour again last night and only took about 20 mins during the day yesterday. I finally got her back to sleep at 7:15 then DS got up and he's been tantrumming ever since. The worst thing about the lack of sleep is that it flares my eczema so badly. I've just got an emergency appointment at the skin clinic today as it's awful again. I only saw them on Friday past and I'm beginning to lose hope that it'll ever improve or become comfortable

I did BLW with DS and will do the same with DD as it was so easy and makes so much sense to me. I do think the bit in the papers yesterday was a bit extreme though. We had a weaning talk last week too and I just kept [zipped] as not only was the HV all purees, she was also of the belief that most babies can't make it to 6 months and that 12lbs is an ideal weight to start weaning. [sigh]

Bienchen · 19/06/2007 09:42

Good morning!

Suzi2 and Babydriver - I was just about to moan about LO taking about an hour and a half to get to sleep in the evening and then realised what a cow I am. It must be a complete nightmare to have a baby that is needy during the night for months on end and I feel for you.

There is a school of thought that the better they sleep during the day the better they are at night time and it is true for us. DD has a nap quite soon after her first feed and then (hopefully) a proper sleep after lunch and she is much better on the days were she manages those sleeps. I also put her to sleep in her cot if we are at home.

Have applied for a job with a charity. It is home-based and there is a possibility to work part-time, so I felt compelled to apply even if I did not really want to go back to work quite so soon. I have just signed on for Jobseeker's Allowance and have to show that I am actively seeking work also contributed...

Snugglebum - DD is outgrowing her Tots Bots size 1 and I am thinking about bamboo nappies. She is a heavy wetter; is there much difference Beehinds and WamBamboo? Also, can the Beehinds be tumbledried on a high setting as bamboo dries slowly I believe and I am thinking of Winter .

FFT - did you enjoy the hospitality? How did you get on with LO?

Off to hang up washing and sort out this weekend's Christening xx

forgottenfreetime · 19/06/2007 13:10

Hospitality was lovely Bienchen but we did have to promise that DD wouldn't make a single sound before they would let her in. Then of course she did cry for a moment! Only a moment though before a big booby was in her face to feed her! I am in Brum so could meet up with Notts& Northampton sometime.
Daisy I gave DS BM only when i went back to work but he was six months by then, so had a bit of food to eat & water as well. How old will your lo be? I found that I got most milk expressed by buying a double electric pump and expressing twice in a whole day (11am and 3pm). I usually ended up feeding immediately on my return home and at bedtime as well. Wasn't too hard but had got bored after 3 months and gave him formula during the day. The hardest part was finding suitable places to express, because although there was a great room to use at my base, I was often out and about for visits whilst at work. Employers have a duty to give you a suitable room thoguh and a safe place to store milk (fridge!). I took in an insulated picnic bag with an ice pack and it waas fine. Then refroze the ice pack overnight for the next day.

andyrobo237 · 20/06/2007 20:17

Evening - not much to report, but thought I'd bump up the thread as it is a bit quiet! DS is now shuffling around the room - digs his heels in and arches his back and can move around - little tike! I have uploaded a piccie of him from our recent Center Parcs break - it looks like he is sitting up but I can asure you his was lying flat in the pram!

peachygirl · 20/06/2007 21:00

Ahh what a cutie!!
Not much to report here we are just really busy, settling in with he childminder socialising with antenatal friends, shopping, swimming and getting ready for my parents visiting next week.

OP posts:
snugglebumnappies · 20/06/2007 21:09

Hello...oh it's been so busy here I have been keeping up with the thread, but only just.

Peachy thanks for the info re the breatbottle, have decided to kick the trying to give a bottle into touch as I am sure DS2 will manage a cup soon.

Bienchen the baby BeeHinds and Bambineos are both great nappies. The Baby BeeHinds are a birth to potty and have a couple of good sized snap in boosters that will be good for when your LO gets bigger and wees more, however they are bulkier than the very slinky Bambineos. Neither nappy can be tumbled on high (only the low setting) as any heat above 60 degrees will shrink the Bamboo fabric. Feel free to email me via the site if you want ore info, feel guilty about highjacking the thread about nappies as usual

Well DS2 is getting bigger and stronger, pulling himself up to sitting position and loves to sit on the floor supported by his breastfeeding cushion. Now grabbing at toys and very vocal. Still breastfeeding well and very regularly, every two hours or so through the night, but does go straight back to sleep, feeling very sorry for those of you who are up all night. DS1 used to be an all nighter and although it was nearly 12 years ago I remember vividly how horrible it was.

Andyrobo, your pics are gorgeous, we are off to CP in about 5 weeks, am really looking forward to it. Funny you should say your DS is lying flat in the pram as I have had to move DS2 out of the carrycot into the upright bottom seat of the P&T as he screams all the time when lying down, he now loves the view and is a happy traveller

DD is being a bit of a nightmare at the moment, has just realised DS2 is not going back and is here for good and the jelousy has hit. I am trying to be patient, but this combined with terrible twos is pushing me to the limit! DS1 has started his transition visits to High School and is really looking forward to going at the moment so that is a relief. Got to go as DS2 needs a feed...again

marmitemad · 20/06/2007 21:24

Hi everyone,
we had the dreaded 4 month immunisations today. Took my Mum along for support as DH is in London tonight at Vinopolis .
dd was grizzling in the waiting room with receptionists/HVs and various pregnant ladies trying to cheer her up (I think her teeth are really bothering her atm).
Usual grins on seeing the nurse, then they did 2 at the same time again at which she screamed immediately then quietened a little, then the third straight after which made her scream even more. It was truly awful (sorry to anyone who's not done them yet), my Mum and I both had tears.
I was a little cross as I had asked if it would be possible to delay the third one until next week as I was worried (dh says watch out paranoid Mum alert) about too much immune response at one time but everyone told me not to worry, better to get it over with, upsets the vac. routines etc so allowed myself to be browbeaten.
Anyway got home and gave Calpol and a feed, then she fell asleep in Mums arms and was just a little bit grizzly the rest of the afternoon. Nothing like as bad as last time so hoping for a good night . Gave her some Nurofen as well before bed just to help further.
It is very quiet on here, so many people seem to have dropped off, I guess they are too busy?
Andyrobo - lovely pics, which Centerparcs did you go to?, am so looking forward to our holiday next week (we are going to the Lake District), not looking forward to packing the car though, hoping it all fits??

peachygirl · 20/06/2007 21:32

I agree Marmite, we don't seem to have heard from some people for ages
We are having our jabs late here mainly due to moving house and not registering with the new doctor yet... long and complicated but it's to do with new life insurance, Dh and the crohns disease.
I have an appointment for DD at the old doctor but am finally going to register with the new one on friday.... what am I blathering on about this for???

OP posts:
marmitemad · 20/06/2007 21:36

you may blather as much as you like on here, I know I do as it helps me to feel like I'm doing ok as a Mummy and not alone with silly achievements/worries which no-one else understands although dh is fantastic he is only a man

babydriver · 20/06/2007 22:28

We had jabs today too. Horrid at the time but so far so good on the aftereffects.

Sleeping going a bit better last few days - doing a late feed and then getting woken 4 ish. And then 6ish to start the day which is a bit deadly but at least we're getting a good chunk in the middle of the night.

Lucky folks off to centreparcs, hope you enjoy it. We went to the Sherwood one last autumn and it was excellent (we mostly self-catered though).

Right, got to go again, as I'm annoying DH typing this whilst he's watching TV .

DontCallMeYummy · 20/06/2007 22:39

Snugglebumnappies - I'm so glad to hear that DCMMY isn't the only baby with a 2-hour internal milk alarm. Had a bit of a scare these past few days thinking my milk was drying up - was gutted as I was hoping to carry on for as long as possible (well, until teeth appear). Did everything I could to stop the drought bar jumping into a field and chewing the cud, and after lots of food, water and sleep it looks like the lactation station is back in business - hurrah.
If the London meet is still happening can I put my name down? I'm in Stoke Newington (NE16) but have Oyster, will travel...
