DrWho was indeed v. good. Glad to see I'm not alone in being an addict.

suzi2 · 11/06/2007 21:02

marmitemad - that happened to us a few weeks ago. VERY annoying! Worst thing was DH was trying to blame me and it was clearly him lol

I recently got a mei tai (ellaroo deluxe) and it's fab - very comfy and I can use it for both DD and DS. Still to do a back carry with it so I might try that next weekend when DH is about. I've done a back carry with the wilkinet but I find that the straps on the wilkinet cut into me a bit. I haven't done a back carry with ym wrap, not through lack of trying though! I'm so nervous about putting DD on my back as she's so little, but DS is so strong and wriggly that it's tricky to get him on!

Sallyallyally · 11/06/2007 21:55

Hello...only taken 16 or so weeks to get a minute on the computer!!
Haven't read all the postnatal thread but sounds like everyone doing swimmingly .
Henry is huge...about 18/19 lbs, tall and breastfeeding like it's going out of fashion! Doesn't sleep, and despite our firm resolve not to let him into our bed, finds his way in after a couple of hours every night just to get a bit of peace. However has a smile that goes from ear to ear and usually wears it.
Have I missed any vaccination shinannigans? (sp?) Henry has had one lot of the 5 in 1 and nothing else yet. (personal choice..he will have the others) (we were late due to a nasty cold). His thigh became very red and a swollen a few hours later. The redness was gone by the evening but he still has a small pea sized lump under the skin 4 weeks later. I'm a bit nervous about taking him back for the second lot. Any calming words?!!

MoosMa · 12/06/2007 10:39

For Andyrobo . Not the best picture of her, but she's just been fed so has that 'full' look. Nice trousers though!

forgottenfreetime · 12/06/2007 14:47

Hi folks, Back from our tour! R has been a superbaby whilst we were at my friends. Verybplacid and settled. DS was shown up as a bit of a tinker however . It probably was a bit soon to go off after our last hols and I think he got a bit stressed being in a strange place without daddy!I'm skiving from the cleaning at the moment - MIL is coming to stay for a couple of days tommorrow. No rest for the wicked. seriously though I am shattered - must try to find a few days to just chill out soon.
DD going for her second jabs on Thrs - I remember DS having a hard red lump for a week but no where near as long a month, praps check with the doc before you have further imms? By the way DS and DD had the jabs in different legs - could that be the prob?
Hope all is well with everyone and their LOs.

peachygirl · 12/06/2007 17:06

moosma, she is lovely. I keep meaning to upload a more recent one of DD. Welcome back sally and FFT

Moosma - loving the piccie - she is a gorgeous girl!!

We had our third set of injections today - screamed but calmed down 5 mins later. HV was offering to weigh him, but he was only done last week, and I couldnt be bothered to strip him off completely!! I dont have an obsession with his weight - and I cant always remember how many weeks old he is ((bad second mother smiley!!)).

He was a little monkey last night - up at 3 and then 6 for milk - when will he sleep all night???!!!! He has learned how to squeal but seems surprised as to where the noise has come from! he also will hold toys now and gets excited at several of them!

having a big sort out this week - tidying cupboards, etc to try and get rid of the rubbish - either sell, charity shop, or if there is enough = a car boot sale. The money will come in handy as holiday spending money for our caravan trip to Wales at the end of July! My maternity pay runs out in 9 weeks time, so I'll be poor!!!

suzi2 · 12/06/2007 21:43

moosma - she's soo cute!

Andyrobo, I'm also rubbish with remembering how old Isla is. And I'm only getting her weighed every month or so, with clothes on, just to keep the HVs a wee bit happy. Oh the squealing... I was wondering when that would start. We have DS on video at New Year (a year ago) doing some mad squealing and he was about 4.5 months then. It went on for a while I think and was the most awful noise! Mind you, he's now a squealing toddler which is worse and gives me a total headache.

Sleep here is worse than ever. I can hardly bring myself to type about it. I was up for almost 6 hours the other night and even 2 walks in the buggy and one car journey to ASDA didn't get her sleeping. Then the wee monkey took her usual 3x 20 mins during the day. I seem to spend the whole day fighting her overtiredness and trying to get her to sleep. Roll on the days when she's crawling and knackering herslef to sleep!

Sallyallyally · 12/06/2007 22:21

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one up in the night! We are going out and out for the worst routine award . Henry falls asleep on breast at about 8 ish , leave him sleeping on our bed..wakes up approx every 20 mins to 1 hour till we go to bed. (each time breastfed back to sleep). Lift him into cot at our bedtime. He stays there for 2 mins to 2 hours depending on our luck, then sleeps inbetween us feeding on and off all night!!!!! My daughter was the same, but moved into her own room at 3 without protest and has slept beautifully ever since! So, not too concerned..they are only tiny for such a short while. Oh yes..proud mum moment..since last week he has been rolling onto front and back again..way to go!

MoosMa · 13/06/2007 08:40

Blimey these babies rolling is impressive! DD1 rolled from back to front at 5 months, I can't remember when when she did front to back. DD1 hasn't done either yet, although she can lift her head up very well for a long time when she's on her tummy (she doesn't like it though!).

Her routine has gone to pot too, she was doing 12 hour nights and drinking 7ozs every 3 hours during the day, since we went on hols she's been doing 6ozs every 4 hours during the day and going 10pm to 6am which is good by some standards (I know I know, I'm lucky compared to those up all night!) but I got used to the good life! It also means she's only totalling less than 30ozs per day, compared to 36ozs a few weeks ago .

marmitemad · 13/06/2007 10:18

Had a horrid day here on Monday, I felt awful - thumping head and constantly running nose, not sure if cold and hayfever combined but felt pretty miserable. Think dd wasn't feeling well either as she wouldn't settle at all, ended up giving Calpol which didn't help but suddenly at 4pm I felt better so we went out for a walk where she christened the Wilkinet with sick despite the muslin in place.

At 2am on Monday morning my darling cat brought a bat indoors which she relinquished fairly easily (she does not give up mice)but although still alive it couldn't fly away so DH had to do the necessary . Today she is not eating her food so don't know if she has been snacking alsewhere again or if feeling unwell.

I loved Dr Who as a child so when I met DH who is a secret Dr Who geek I knew he was the man for me. I think David Tennant is the best so far though and this of course has nothing to do with certain dreams I keep having .

The Wilkinet was recommended as lasting through to toddler age and being suitable for me to use in the wheelchair with dd facing outwards, not sure whether it will last this long though. Also the straps did cut into my very squashy body in a most unattractive fashion, although it wasn't uncomfortable. Might have to try a Mei Tai as well.
Suzi2 - where did you get your ellaroo deluxe from? and what age are your dc, is it comfortable for both of them?

The squealing is awful, so high pitched it makes my ears and head hurt, think I preferred the growling!! dd first
rolled from front to back at 13 weeks and after a few more goes (each time looking very surprised) now just lies on her tummy squealing louder and louder until I turn her over. she was also doing mini press ups as well which was quite funny to see.

I still haven't been organised to sort out things for selling, must do really especially as maternity pay runs out in 7 weeks .

As I have been feeling a bit lonely (silly as have loads of family/friends) was
wondering how feasible a meet up would be? whereabouts is everyone?

just realised how much I've rambled on, its like an OU essay!!

hairycaterpillar · 13/06/2007 14:40

Wow impressed at rolling babies, Ben shows no sign of rolling yet...thank goodness I'm dreading when he's mobile and all the mischief he'll get into, egged on by DS1 and DD. Caught DS1 rolling Ben across room the other day immediately launched into angry lecture about not being too rough, when realised Ben was squealing with delight and chortling away loving it!!

We've been having horrific nights here too and periods of being v unsettled during the day. Can cry inconsolably (sp.?) for hours on end day or night or can have days where is really settled and happy as larry. Not sure why (although everyone else has thrwn in their tuppence worth of "helpful" advice!)...personally hoping "just a phase" and in few months/years will look back on these early months through the benefit of rose tinted spectacles and sigh at how I miss being up all night!!

suzi2 · 13/06/2007 20:11

Sallyallyally I think I love you DS was just like DD was and got more settled at about 5 months for nighttime. Then daytime improved at about 9 months. Then he did it all well from about 15 months and now at 22 months he's a fab wee sleeper. Goes down into his 'big' bed himself no bother and generally sleep all night unless he's ended up in a daft position or is ill or something.

marmitemad, DS is 22 months and weighs about 24lbs. He's quite small for his age. Actually VERY small lol. DD is 4 months, 13.5lbs I think and is also petite. She's not happy in ANYTHING but is sometimes content in it and seems comfy enough. I bought it from sasaslings.com and they were great.

DD rolled once at about 11 weeks IIRC. The from front to back a couple of times last week. But nothing since. TBH, the less mobile she is, the better! DS didn't roll until 10 months (he did all that in the wrong order, cruising before crawling before rolling, had me really worried he wasn't developing lol) so I don't expect DD to really. She surprised me though that she can sit for about 10 seconds before toppling when on the memory foam mattress . She can also do little situps and lift her head off the ground when on her back. I don't recall DS doing that at all

andyrobo237 · 13/06/2007 20:51

My LO is driving me mad today - he is constantly pukeing up milk of sick - at random times as well - there seems to be loads of it - his top was soaked and we have been through about 5 bibs and two cloths today! He also wants to sit up - he is pulling himself forward - usually to nibble on my hand - dribbling everywhere - definately teething! I always keep him upright for half an hour or so after feeds, so I dont know!!

He is asleep now - bless!

I had to take DD back to Clarks today - got her new school shoes on Friday, wore them first time on Monday and came home with a cut on her ankle where they had rubbed - put a plaster on it, and she wore them the last wo days - and they still rub - the lady tried to suggest that she wasnt fastening the shoes tight enough - no not that as she really pulls them, anyway she re-measured her and we picked some new shoes - which seem a lot better!

peachygirl · 13/06/2007 21:19

Hi everyone
our nights are Ok ish. DD is going down at 8-9pm I breastfeed her to sleep, although she does seem to be able to settle herself.
I do a dream feed at 11ish and she normally goes through to 3ish, although last night it was 1:30, which is the worst time to be woken up. She was really noisy too, and really wet. I've got some pampers instead of the usual huggies and I don't feel they are as absorbant.... go on nag me about reusables... I'm waiting to get back to work to get the money to buy some!! I am honestly!!
No rolling here though. I keep giving her tummy time

Marmite I would be definitely be up for a meet up. yes let's do it. I'm as you all know in sunny croydon so could do london / south east
at the bat and the shoes

hi everyone,
hope you dont mind me crashing in like this. Myds2 was born at the end of feb and i want ppl to talk baby with. Everyone else wants to know about ds1 and uj cant remember anything 'babyfied' i'm supposed to be doing. i have a small age gap and so my brain is well and truly frazzled.

Anyway hope to chat soon
MiK

marmitemad · 14/06/2007 21:28

welcome muminkent, I can ramble for ages about baby and non baby things as you've probably gathered. how old are your dc? and whereabouts in Kent are you?

we had a lovely day today although I still got the 5am nappy change alarm call despite changing to Huggies baby dry nappies which are supposed to be good for 12 hours and dd then wanted to chat/play, so ended up reading by torch in her room (out of her sight) and eventually she went back to sleep. (Peachy, I do agree with you about Huggies seeming more absorbant)

waterbabies class was great, a bit scary as we did our first underwater release swim and dd was the only one that sank instead of floating up to the surface (not enough air in her apparently) but she was fine overall.
dd has also started trying to copy me blowing raspberries which is quite funny and she was just really happy all day (such a contrast to Monday).

Peachy - I'm in Bracknell, Berkshire so could easily drive to Purley (in fact have previously been to the Ikea near there), I think everyone else is spread around the country. August would be best for me to meet up as swimming stops for a break then.

babydriver · 14/06/2007 21:42

hi muminkent, nice to have you with us.

3am seems to be a favoured hour among our LOs - it's great to know I'm not alone in watching the clock through the small hours. DS2 seems to wake at 3 no matter what we do. Last few nights though I've been able to settle him back to sleep at 3 & 4 and hold off the feed to 5am. However, this morning at 5 he was totally wide awake and finally dropped off at 6.30 after a feed and nappy change. Then woke again at 7:15 for yet more food...

marmitemad, thanks for the tip about the slings site - it's really good. I got a sun cover thingy which is great as I'd been worrying about keeping DS2 both cool and out of the sun whilst in his sling.

and... I got a huge bargain off gumtree - for £30 I now have a pushchair which has a rear facing option, which I'm itching to try out. Sadly, DS2 was so unsettled today with teething that I couldn't put him down for any length of time.

Finally, count me in on the meet up - though we're away in August from 9th to the bank holiday.

andyrobo237 · 14/06/2007 21:45

marmitemad - were our two LOs in cahoots? was up at 5.30am screaming, drank milk as none of the usual getting back to sleep things worked (and last feed was 1.50am) - then proceeded to chat away with eyes wide open for half an hour - put him in our bed and he snuggled in and fell asleep - little monster!

Is anyone 'Up North' - most of you seem to be 'down South'!! Far to tricky to get to a meet up doen there, but we could have our own northern one - unless it is just me - then I;ll meet up with myself and post photos!!

babydriver · 14/06/2007 21:50

forgot to say, I'm between Wimbledon and Morden so Croydon is easy for me - or going into central london near to Westminster or Waterloo.

suzi2 · 14/06/2007 21:50

andyrobo - I'm in Fife, Scotland so possibly too far north! But I'd be interested in meeting anyone around here. I couldn't contemplate travelling too far with a nearly 2 year old and his non sleeping sister lol.

Right, someone tell me how to fix DDs sleeping. She can not self settle in the slightest. She never has been able to. I've been keen to get her to as it took several months to do it with DS, so I think I've tried pretty much everything from the word go. I know loads of people say to lay them down when sleepy and they'll eventually drop off but that has only happened once since birth. And we try that for almost every sleep. She just can't seem to go... lately we've had a slight breakthrough in that she will take a dummy so now we stick ehr dummy in, give her a comfort cloth, bounce her in the hammock in a dark room with womb sounds/white noise on the slumberbear and after between 15 and 90 mins of that she will be asleep. Then she'll wake at 20 min intervals for the next hour or so and we'll belt upstairs and bounce her again for a few minutes. Actually, I reckon it was all easier when I let her nod off on my knee while watching telly!

suis · 14/06/2007 22:58

I'm in Clackmannanshire for the Up North contingent ! And I know the J9 and HairyCaterpillar are both in Stirling too, so it might well be possible to get a Scottish Febs going..

MoosMa · 15/06/2007 07:24

What about a Western lot? I'm in Somerset so Scotland's a bit far and London's not that easy. Anyone else around here?

Went to DH's sister's wedding yesterday, DD1 was brilliantly behaved (as always!) and DD2 stayed mostly quiet through the ceremony, fed as soon as we got to the recption, cried for 10 minutes in the pushchair then slept till it was all over! And she's just slept through a proper night too for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Taking her to the osteopath again today, she's been twice already (although the first appoitntmant was only 5 minutes as I was so late ) and it seems to be helping her reflux and general unhappiness when feeding. Anyone who's had a difficult or very quick birth, has a baby with a funny shaped head, feeding problems, reflux or general grumpiness really should try it - Suzi2 maybe it would be worth a shot for your LO to help her with her sleeping?

daizydoo · 15/06/2007 11:16

Hi, can I join too? I've been a lurker for far too long, as I didn't want to gatecrash! My DS was born 19th Feb. He's just started rolling onto his stomach and then gets stuck and upset!! I currently live in SE London, but moving to the South West if and when our house sale goes through.

forgottenfreetime · 15/06/2007 15:01

Hi to daisy and mik. DD is lying on her baby fleece at the moment. Might that be something you haven't tried Suzi? The info that came with it says that babies sleep longer on fleece, might be worth a try? No rolling as yet but I am very lax at putting her on her front since she is so happy on her back. I'm getting really tired through these broken nights now. I think because I have DS as well its harder than when he was little. I remember going back to bed when he used to have a nap when he was this age! We have a posh day out tomorrow at the hospitality of the tennis so that will be nice, but I have to smuggle dd in first! Babies aren't really allowed! DS is being looked after by grandad but I'm not yet happy to leave DD for longer than an hour or two so hoping she will be well behaved with me! I think that London and Scotland are too far for me to meet up but look forward to seeing the photos!
