Hello all

Nice to see everyone upbeat and happy! All well in the Alocin household, Patrick fab. Been doing baby massage classes which are lovely, and hoping the same place will let me start yoga soon (they are v careful with CS ladies)which is quite ironic as I been bouncing around to my Davina DVDs at home.

V disappointed in the whole breastfeeding-weightloss myth - aint working for me! Fascinated with the whole Paul McKenna thing, thing I migh get me that book.

Question - I've not had a period yet, is this normal?

suis · 12/05/2007 18:41

Alocin - I've not had one either, and long may it last if you ask me. No 1 best thing about pregnancy was no damn PMS or pain. I'm not losing weight bfing either, put it on in fact. I'm not ususally someone who fusses about weight. I've always been a good eating and rounder sort of person even when I was running a lot, but now I am just huge, with norks the size of my head, a post CS overhang, and still stuck in maternity trousers as nothing else fits.

Now I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks, nothing I could wear even if I wanted to, no idea and no cash for a fat girl outfit that I will hopefully be too big in a few months. I have to say it is getting me down a little. Paul McKenna doesn't work on my either... constantly hungry for chocolate !

snugglebumnappies · 12/05/2007 19:07

Sorky, just answered on the other thread

forgottenfreetime · 12/05/2007 22:05

Suis, how about splashing the cash on fab new shoes and bag for the wedding? Might make an older outfit feel great and you get to wear them whatever your size!
Weight loss is slow here - too much chocolate despite running around after ds. He's been slightly better in the last couple of days although he did try to poke dd's eye out yesterday. I literally can't take my eyes off him for a second when they are in the same room and have to resort to putting dd in another room quite often.

MoosMa · 12/05/2007 22:19

fft we've had similar probs gere, DD1 has taken to pulling DD2's eyelashes out and bringing them to me!

No af for me either, but it was 8 months after DD1 and only with meds so here's hoping for a repeat this time

Glad people are posting more these days, maybe it means our babies are well behaved and giving us lots of spare time!

My friend told me today that she's 16 weeks pg and I was surprised to find myself feeling slightly jealous despite loathing pregnancy both times must be the hormones [rolling eyes]

babydriver · 12/05/2007 22:28

Good to hear others' thoughts on BLW - tempted to go down this route for DS2 as it sounds very common sense.

For those with unsettled LOs (suzi2?) I happened to pick up a book to read whilst bfing in a bookshop coffee shop the other day which was by Dr Howard Karg - can't remember the title I'm afraid but it was all about helping your baby to settle. He advocates 5 "s"s to calm your baby. The first one is ssshhing them close to the ear as loud (or as softly) as they're crying - sort of white noise. My SIL had mentioned this to me before, and it really seems to work with DS2. The other four were something like side (lying on, whilst calming - and again, DS2 likes this), swinging, sucking and erm something else. It might be worth getting hold of a copy for babycalming ideas if all else is failing?

Gotta go - time to get ready for bed and the dream feed (har har).

suzi2 · 12/05/2007 22:57

I remember seeing that guy on Richard & Judy when pg with DS babydriver. His technique was amazing! It's kind of what we're doing anyway, but the problem is we want to get out of the habit of always being the one to soothe her.

Small victories today. DS is at his grans so we could spend all the time on getting DD to sleep lol. She took two naps in her hammock. had to be rocked/bounced in it with a bit of ssshhhing, some white noise and some hand holding but she did it. This evening we got her to take a bottle... well, 1oz of it anyway. NUK latex. And then we tried to get her to settle in the hammock again. 2 hours later she's asleep. She was soooo close to managing it several times but couldn't quite drift off. In the end I fed her to sleep and put her down. She woke within 5 mins. So I persevered and let her suckle to sleep again. it's been 25 mins now so wish me luck for getting to go to bed alone tonight!

we'll get there I'm sure. Not quite sure how the naps will work when DS is here. Him running in and out the room squealing isn't conducive to sleep. How are others managing with older ones?

Oh, and DS can't be trusted with DD but he's starting to like her I think. He was hitting her and trying to use her head as a step stool... but the last week he's been possessive about her and kissing and cuddling her a lot which is nice. If she cries, he runs over and lifts my t-shirt and if I ignore her for more than 2 seconds he hits me lol.

andyrobo237 · 14/05/2007 10:35

Everone must have been busy yesterday - no posts!

We were at yet another party - these 5 year olds have a better social life than me - but at least I get some adult company for a couple of hours and a ready supply of baby holders!

T is sleeping in his bouncy chair at the moment - he has managed two naps during the daytime in his cot (put him in awake and let him drop off - he was showing signs of needing quiet time). We are also trying not to cuddle him to sleep as much as he is now 3 months old and needs to get into an established sleep routine where he gets himself to sleep. He goes straight back down after his night time feed which is good, but still feeds every 2 hours in the day.

Got his second set of jabs today - we are going to a mother & baby group this afternoon run by the HV's - went a few weeks ago and there was no one there - so will try again today - it is up at our local shopping centre and I need to go to the bank and post office anyway, so if no one turns up then it isnt a completely wasted trip!

I am thinking of getting a swing thing for him to sit in in the house - i think it can also be used as a feeding chair when we get upto that point, but not sure if it is more of a gimmick than a good idea - anyone got any experience of them - dont want to waste £20 or £30 on a second hand one if limited use!

Hope you are all ok!

suzi2 · 14/05/2007 12:55

we bought a swing for ds in the hope that it would soothe him - he hated it so we took it back 2 days later. I do think they're a bit of a waste at this age as they'll be sitting in no time. best toy buy with ds was a leapfrog learn n groove which they can use from 4 ot 5 months.

well done on the settling andyrobo - we've been trying with dd but she still won't settle herself. tried for alnost 4 hours last night - laying her down while calm or on the verge of sleep but she just couldn't nod off. ended up in meltdown (both of us!) then fed her to sleep and she slept beside me.

babydriver · 14/05/2007 14:16

This settling thing is really hard isn't it. Only very very rarely does DS go to sleep by himself from eyes opn. However in the last week or so he has cut out the pre-sleep screaming fit - more of a cry/burble and is easier to calm. At night, he dozes off as he feeds but I'm making sure that I latch him off before he's fully gone, and sit him up to wind him before he goes down. he generally then goes off fairly easily, and the times we spend an hour or so settling him are getting fewer. I'm hoping we can gradually be less and less present for him to sleep but its definitely baby steps at the mo.

marmitemad · 14/05/2007 15:51

We were bought a Mamas & Papas battery powered swing as a present and I must admit to being a bit dubious about the amount of space it took up in the lounge but it was (and still is) our saviour. In the first 8 weeks it was the only place where A (temporarily) stopped screaming and gave us a bit of a break. It has two seat heights and a tray table with toys and is supposed to be suitable for feeding as well. I have also put a toy arch across the top and A currently loves blowing bubbles at these.

Went to see Spiderman 3 last night, can't recommend it i'm afraid. I think they have tried to pack too much in and although the effects were good sometimes things were moving so quickly it was hard to see what was happening.

We have had a good day today even though it is freezing cold and raining lots here. Cleaned kitchen, utility room and bathrooms with A observing from the bouncy chair then went to HV new mums group and then I managed to go swimming with A sitting on the poolside in her car seat - I was a bit paranoid about her crying at first and had to get out twice to check her but just as I was finishing up she went to sleep!

Just got home and had a cup of tea and no biscuits while catching up on MN. now have to start thinking about cooking dinner

SmudgeMum · 14/05/2007 18:29

Hi All. Not a lot going on here either but just thought I'd post to say hi. Sounds like we're all battling with the settling to sleep at the moment. I have to admit to giving in today. D usually settles himself pretty well but round about 4pm really struggles and I just fed him to sleep and then had a nice cuddle til he woke up about 30 mins later. Anyone else get guaranteed smiles by blowing raspberries at their LO? Everytime I do it, I wonder whether it's really a good idea but it's just sooooo cute!

peachygirl · 15/05/2007 09:48

Hi all.Its very busy here 'sorting' before the packers arrive.
I have a list as long as my arm to do and it's not fun with a baby around!.. It doesn't help that MIL is coming tomorrow so the place has to be tidy too!

Peachy, sounds like hard work for a few days , it will be worth it when you are settled in your new home though.

Just on to say thanks for all the addvice re the P&T, bought one yesterday and just had a trip out in it. Both kids seemed happy in it though neither of them slept . DS2 looked very comfy in his cocoon and the swaying motion of the seat was very much like a hammock, so at least he was quiet . But my god grils, you didn't warn me how heavy it would be 'fully loaded" .

Just to make everyone else feel happy DS2 doesn't settle by himself either. Is now alssep in his sling, but that's the only way I can get him to sleep during the day, and at night I always eed him to sleep and he sleeps right next to me, if I move he wakes up , all my three have been like this and much as I would like him to settle on his own I really don't have th energy.

DS1 has a busy week this week, Y6 sats and his browm belt gradings in karate. We have told him not to fret about is stats (sorry Peachy and to concentrate on his gradigs as his karate really builds his confidence, he has taken to it really well and I am sure that it's the repetition and structure that makes it ideal for autstic kids. We have some champagne left from after DS2's birth so are hoping to pop that open after the gradings on Sat, everyone keep everyting crossed for him

snugglebumnappies · 15/05/2007 12:34

ohh the typing errors in my last post will put it down to typing round DS2 in sling

MoosMa · 15/05/2007 13:42

sbn, it may be heavy with 2 in but at least it's light when it's empty. I pushed a Jane Powertwin round a shop with no babies in it and struggled with the weight! I took just DD2 for a walk in the P&T the other day and was amazed at how light it was with no DD1!

Tabbie is growing well, she's fillng the 3-6 month clothes rather well, I can't see them lasting till August somehow! Getting her weighed on Thursday so will see how much she's put on in 4 weeks (about a stone I think! )

Alocin · 15/05/2007 15:27

Hi all

Pissed off with the weather, want to get out with buggy and rain keeps coming down, I'm a pussy and dont like getting wet!

Has anyone got one of those lights that projects pretty things on to the ceiling for baby to look at? Are they any good? P is mesmerised by his Winnie musical mobile so I though I might upgrade to flashing pictures!

Going to clean the bathroom now for some exercise!

suzi2 · 15/05/2007 15:51

Woohooo - just bought myself a nipper double pushchair on ebay for £50. It's a bit worn and I'm not 100% sure that I should have gone with another offer of a less worn one for £100 but it's done now. And I only need a double for the occasional trip through the country park accross the road. Just need to work out how to get MIL or someone to collect it for me. I really hope it's not really crap or I'll never hear the end of it from DH lol. Nice and light when fully loaded too

We had a better night last night. She settled after 30 mins of bouncing her in the hammock. And then during the night she settled with no bouncing. So we've made progress. Still no daytime sleeps though...

snugglebumnappies · 15/05/2007 15:58

Alocin, you have just reminded me, I got a chicco one in the sales and put it somewhere, must find it

Suzi2, might be nice and light but I wouldn't get it out of my bloody front door

suzi2 · 15/05/2007 16:07

Ah true - we're in a new build so have nice big doors

andyrobo237 · 16/05/2007 16:35

What rubbish weather today - that put paid to my long walk I had planned in an attempt to get fit! T had his second set of jabs yesterday and seemed to sleep quite a lot today, in between 'cooing' - like a pigeon!

Hope tomorrow is better!

peachygirl · 16/05/2007 18:05

Hi just popping in to say Dh is going to disconnect the PC tonight so have a good weekend and think of me and baby peachy on friday.
Have a good wekend everyone

OP posts:
marmitemad · 16/05/2007 18:50

good luck peachygirl, hope it all goes well and isn't too stressful, although I think I read that you have packers coming in? do they unpack as well? might have to think about that although after our last house move we swore never to do it ever again.

Have had a horrendous 2 days here. DD has been extremely grumpy and unsettled and is chewing her hands a lot and dribbling loads. my mum reckons she is teething

Bought myself a dress from Monsoon today for a big family party next weekend. Had real trouble finding something that looked vaguely flattering with the current belly situation and in the end got a dress that I had already showed DH and friends but they didn't like the colours and I wasn't sure about but I liked the feel of it. At least DD slept through the whole time I was in the shop

marmitemad · 16/05/2007 19:44

bloody hell, just used dentinox teething gel and DD has gone straight to sleep. Hope its not full of bad stuff?

suzi2 · 16/05/2007 19:45

good luck peachygirl. Just remember, it's like "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" when you're moving. Anything that happens or is said during the move should be forgotten because you're bound to fall out with everyone lol.

OOooh, I forgot Monsoon existed lol. I need an outfit for 2 weddings in June/July and thought I'd have to do a big shopping trip to Edinburgh. I HATE shopping as nothing ever fits me and it's so hot etc. But we have a monsoon locally so I'll try there first.
