Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Sounds like you're in the wars a bit Sibble you poor thing.
I did have to smile though at the picture of you flinging yourself backwards in the middle of playgroup with max attached to your boob fast asleep .
Hope you feel better soon.

Anyone in London and up for a new babies meet-up? There's a thread in the meet-ups section?

Hiya, Sibble, hope you;re ok! I'm so pleased that I'm NORMAL! Than God for Mumsnet and all who surf her!!! I don;t know where I'd be without it. Getting to post a bit more now. I think I'll just go for it and post whil;e while she feeds even if it is peak time and costs a bomb. It's good to keep in touch with you all and be 'adult' again for a while!
Just done the cuddling thing to sleep and she's gone off. Past couple of nights she's gone from 8pm till 2am and then till 7am. It's defo because she needs to feed every 3 hours in the day and so seems to get tanked up then to go through the night. Very little day sleep though, but we can't have it all!

Hi Everyone,

Thought i'd better show my face Just got my internet connected at home so should be able to post a bit more now!

Evie is doing great at last weigh in (10 days ago) she was 10lb 8 oz which means she has put on nearly 2lb in 8 weeks.
She is feeding great - now on 7oz bottles and having 4 in 24 hours. She leeps great, for the last week has been going right through from either 8 til 8 or 7 til 7 - She is such an angel
She has been to the oesteopath a few times because she was having baby headaches aparently and is quite colicky - oesteopath has taught me a massage to do and it works wonders.

Hope you are all doing well

brill! grt to hear from you!!!!!so glad you're both well! we're in a lovely routine now. 8pm till 7.30am with one feed around 2am. dd1 did not do this till much later and was much more unsettled, maybe i am doing something right for a change then! we'll see if it lasts!

Wow Springchicken. What an angel. I've got 2 weeks then to get Harry sleeping through!
However I think this might be a girl thing as dd fed much less and slept through much sooner than Harry is shaping up to do.
Quite good last night though. Managed to get him to sleep by about 7.30 so we had dinner without screaming for the first time I think since he was born. He slept till 2am and from there till 6am. He fell asleep again after his morning feed but that's no good to me as by then I had to be up to get dd to school so if we can just get him to sleep until 7 rather than 6 I think we've cracked it for the time being.

Hi Springchicken. Was wondering how you were. Things are settling down for us too here. Has Evie had her first jabs yet? Siobhan had hers yesterday; it never gets easier! She was grumpy all evening but had a brill night's sleep so is feeling much better now. Her sleeping is coming along nicely, she generally goes down about 8.30 and sleeps til 7, waking once at around 3.30 for a feed. Then after I have taken the older ones to school she sleeps again for about 3 hours so mornings are for housework and afternoons are playtime! . Be nice to have you back regularly again .

Just back from the health centre Abbie had her first jabs wasn't too bad just gave her a boob shortly after and she was fine. She's now 10lb 1oz (from 6lb 3ozs) so she's flying along.

Good to see you SC

hi all, and hi sc, nice to see you back! ds2 was v fretful last week for a couple of days after his first jabs so am already dreading the 2nd lot, but really want to get them out of the way so we can all go swimming together. ds2 is still feeding irregularly during the day but is quite a good eater nonetheless, and goes from about 8pm til 6.30 ish with one feed in the night, so not too bad at all. he is still sleeping a lot during the day. god tho, he is soo soo sicky, never known a baby like it! sponge, i am gonna go the london meet-up.

Hello everyone, thought it was about time i showed my 'face' again! Alice is nearly 3 weeks old and to be honest I am finding it VERY hard. She feeds every 3 hours or so in the day and sleeps but is awake for about 5 hours in the night . I have tried keeping her awake in the day but it is impossible. I keep telling myself that it is early days but I have been very weepy. MIL has taken dd1 today and will do tomorrow so I can catch up on some sleep so hopefully I can concentrate on getting her into a routine without having a toddler wailing as well.

She was 9lb 5 at birth and now is 10lb 6oz so no wonder I am bloody tired, greedy little beast.

xx

One handed typing is not easy!!!!

OO, so sorry your finding it tough - it will get better though, i'm sure. It must be so much harder with a toddler too!

evie has got her first jabs on tuesday, which i'm not looking forward to. I was useless enough when she had to have blood test done in hospital! Think i might take SIL along or i might end up whacking the doctor

Weighed myself for the first time on Monday, lost 1 and half stone - i'm so pleased - Only 2 stone to go ;)

Oliveoil I felt just like you at 3 weeks. I was finding ds incredibly difficult - daytime crying, evening fretfulness and lots of nighttime feeding - and dd (4) was being really hard work. I was in tears every day. But by 5 weeks I was coping much better and actually starting to enjoy it (sometimes, not when he's screaming!).
Ds now feeds a bit more regularly although his daytime sleep is all over the place but we generally only have one night time wake up now and it takes an hour or less. So there is light at the end of the tunnel - hang in there girl .

Hello, hope you are all ok, so hard to post at the mo!!!
Evie is on infant gaviscon as she was not gaining weight too well, so HV advised this, has made a difference as she drinks much more now. She often goes 6 hrs at night, hurrah!!! However, the cat has made an enemy and fights at night, so I end up geeting up for him!!!!!
DD1 ia an angel, so patient with all of us.
Found old photos of me as a baby and Evie looks like me!! Excellent as DD1 is spitting image of DH.

Hello all, haven't had time to get on here much recently

DS3 will be seven weeks on Monday. He was weighed last Wednesday and tipped the scales at 12lbs 4 oz. Had his bcg and was very sleepy yesterday, don't know if it was as a result of the jab or not.

Hate to admit it, but bought a copy of the CLBB and have implemented a sort of Gina-lite regime which seems to suit him much better. Only thing is that I can never get him to wake up at 10.30 p.m. for a proper feed then, so we are still on at least two wake-ups a night, but when he wakes up the second time I usually bring him into bed and feed him lying down so it's not too tiring.

Hi again.

Oliveoil, I posted this on another thread earlier as we were also having problems with feeding all the time and it was driving me crazy. We found that he was just needing the comfort of sucking rather than actually feeding. He wasn't getting enough of the hind milk because he was feeding so frequently so was getting really windy and sicky as well, which was just making the problem worse. I really dont like dummies (my opinion only) but I tried one and now i have the happiest little boy (most of the time!), who now only feeds 3-4 hourly and is much more settled when he is awake (he is now 7 weeks old).

You could try giving your baby your little finger to suck everytime she wakes / cries / fusses to find out if she wants comfort or food. If she wants food she will reject your finger and cry for food. Otherwise she will suck contentedly. You may find this gives you both a break and is worth a try. HTH. A friend told me to try this and it has been so helpful, but obviously this won't work for everyone, but its worth giving it a go.

Dinosaur, I have a copy of the CLBB on order from amazon and I may see if we can get some kind of lite bedtime routine started as we're all over the place at the moment because i don't know where to start! Glad you've had some success.

hi all

Glad to see you HM and dino, I've also got a copy of CLBB but didn't like it at all.

Abbie kind of has a routine in that she sleeps from 12 to 6 am usually and then takes a feed and goes straight back to sleep until about 10.30am (think she likes this morning) then she goes down at 3pm until about 7pm, she has odd naps inbetween time as well. So it's not too bad so far, will be different when I'm back at work but she'll be 6 months by then.

She has discovered her hands and likes sucking them now and she is taking much more interest in things around her and smiles a lot and holds her head up more. It is lovely seeing them start to develop

I've also tried a bit of routine but although we're OK on the feeding - roughly 3 hourly in the day - he just won't be put down to sleep. If he's tired I can rock or walk or drive or whatever him to sleep but this "put him down in his cot awake" malarky is no good for us. He just screams.
I have the same problem with evenings as you Dino. I can now generally get him to sleep somewhere between 7.30 and 9.00 but he won't wake at 10.30ish for another feed so I have been getting woken up for a mignight or 1am one and then again at 4ish. I do feed him lying down but I still don't find it that comfortable as he tends to pull back a bit which makes it quite sore if he doesn't settle quickly.
Off for our 6 week checks this afternoon so we'll see how his weight's going.

Sure, It's Elizabeth Pantley - the No Cry Sleep Method. Hope you find it! It;s been very useful and gentle - no CC etc... the no dummy in the cot works a treat just like you at mo sponge though, no chance of going down awake. Will move her to her own room in a couple of days and use a night mobile, that really worked for DD1 from about 7-8 weeks. She knew it was bedtime and 9 times out of ten went off.

Report
sweetkitty · 23/09/2004 22:24

Think I will have a look at it as well, DD just will not go down awake, feel like I spend most of the time with her trying to get her to sleep then she gets grumpy because she has not slept.

Today she had about 20 minutes before she woke up, she sleeps fine in the pram and car (as long as it's moving) or on you, the minute you put her down she's wide awake.

Awkward little buggers these babies aren't they.
Ds was really whingey last night. Cried and cried for ages until finally dropping off about 9.30, which put paid to the bedtime feed so he was awake again at midnight.
To add insult to injury I have developed mastitis. Really sore right boob and achey fluey feeling all over.
MIL has come round to help look after ds and has taken him out for a walk so I'm off for paracetamol and a kip .

bad night here too, she only had 20 mins during the day and about an hour asleep on DP at night, went to bed at 11 she eventually got to sleep at 1.10am DP was getting up at 5.45 for work so you can imagine how happy he was.

Suppose it's not too bad as she woke at 8am this morning had a feed and went back to sleep until 10.30am (me as well).

New plan - I've put her down and she's had about 40 mins so far, going to start about 6 with the bath routine etc been reading my Baby Whisperer book

You are not going to believe this! I've been having real pain when feeding Ruben over the past week, so when I saw the health visitor I mentioned it. She said, 'do you think he oculd be teething? its a bit early but it is possible?' so I had a feel and indeed, my boy has nashers coming through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is teething at 8 weeks old! oh gawd! SO now I'm not sure how I will be able to carry on BF as I really want to, but it is really hurting! Any ideas of what to do will be appreciated. I
