Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Had a bit of a bad day with Harry yesterday. e wouldn't settle. Would fall asleep in my arms but wake up and start screaming as soon as i put him down. Went on like this until about 9.30pm when i finally managed to feed him into submission! I was dreading the night but he slept until 2, then fed and went straight back to sleep until 5 so was OK. Could do without bad nights at the moment as I have foolishly let dh go off to Egypt for a week's diving so at night I'm on my own.
So far today he seems fine.
I was worried he might be constipated as no pooh since Wednesday night (lots of wee though) but I thought bf babies weren't supposed to get constipated. Like some others he's farting for Britain though .

Managed my first public breast feeding session - down on the beach (obviously without loads of cushions!) - hooray. It was a doddle. Ruby is an angel at the moment, not too much crying, sleeping well and enjoying her trips out in the pram. She was going through a colicky stage and crying quite a lot in the evening, but this seems to have calmed down.

Anyone else have trouble with ridiculously leaky boobs? - mine not only soak through breast pads but also spurt poor Ruby in the face if I'm not careful!

Sibble

Have you got Lansinoh nipple cream, if not, why not? Get some now!

My DD is 7 weeks and doing really well, she is now over 14lbs and a bit of a dumpling! DS adores her and life is sweet

Blake had a great day yesterday - he was really calm and contented all the time he was awake. He smiled at an old Bagpuss stuffed toy that was DS2s - well that was it - the DSs were off, trying to find more toys that would make him smile again - toyboxes were feverishly emptied and offerings brought to the throne of DS3 - it didn't work of course, but it was hilarious to see them trying!

Yes Dino, our dd is spending lots of time furiously waving her old toys in front of a non-plussed Harry. She also does steling duty putting his dummy back in each time he spits it out when he's trying to scream his way through our dinner time.
She's still being quite moody with us but has been much better today which I put down to her falling asleep very early. She's been pretty tired since we've come home as she desperately fights sleep so's not to be left out.
A bit of a busy night with Harry - feeds at 12.30, 2.30, 4.45 and then up at 7 but he's been quiet today.

Sibble we've also ben trying to entertain dd with cooking so have a chocolate cake which no-one is eating and lots of biscuits .

Ruben has decided to try and become nocturnal so last few nights have been terrible! I guess this is what its like having a real baby as it was a bit too good to be true before. I'm so tired though Hope this doesn't last. Was even considering CLB Gina Ford in the horrible early hours the other day! Otherwise things are good.

Lupe I'm glad your public feeding experience went well!

hi all

Abbie is doing well, I cannot believe she is 6 weeks old tomorrow. We get 2 good nights ie asleep at 11 straight through until morning then one night where shes up in the middle of the night.

Better go and tidy up got someone coming to see the house today. Had a rough few days as DP and I have fallen out

Sorry to hear that SK. Hope you can make up quickly as I know you need all the support you can get at this time.
Still yu're lucky that Abbie sleeps so well. I thought we had a good night last night as Harry was asleep just after 10 and only woke up at 2 & 5 .
Still, only 2 more night on my own then dh gets back from the holiday I foolishly let him go on.

hi all

DP and I have made up and my Dad is coming from Scotland to visit tomorrow first time he will have seen Abbie, only problem is he smokes like a chimney and will be in and out the flat every 10 minutes.

Abbie got weighed today and she's 8lbs 15ozs (she was 7lbs exactly 2 weeks ago) I'm really chuffed feel a bit like "I did that" makes me feel good about breastfeeding. She went down at 10 last night so was up at 5.30 this morning, I was lying in a pool of milk anyone else get that? Soaked through breast pads, bra, t-shirt and sheet was all cold and wet yuck!

Hello everyone, Blake is piling on the weight - he's put on 13 ounces in the last week - up to a mighty 10 lbs 11 ounces now.

Sweetkitty - glad you and your dp have made up - it's a stressful time, having a new baby.

I'm still very emotional post-birth - cried at Holby City last night! Anybody else get like this after childbirth?

Know what you mean dino I am all over the place can't watch anything sad on telly or I'm blubbing. Seems like everything is so personal now I'm a mum and have someone depending on me.

Report
sponge · 02/09/2004 16:23

Oh god yes. I'm blubbing all the time, especially with dh away as I have been feeling things getting on top of me even more. Still he's back tonight so I'm much more cheeful today and have got loads done as Harry has been sleeping like an angel in between feeds.

I do also find myself in a pool of milk quite regularly in the mornings and when I undress to go for a shower I am literally pouring milk. Yuk. Motherhood is not glamourous is it?

Last night I tried a new tactic with Harry's voracious evening feeding. I gave him a bottle at 6pm (4oz which he drained). He was then hungry again at 8 and drank another 4oz! After a bit of a whinge he was then alseep at 8.30 and so was dd so I went to bed at 9 and he slept until 2 and then till almost 6 so the longest stretches of sleep I've yet had. I think he's just a very hungry little boy and I'm going to have to top him up.

Trouble is that having not fed him in the evening my boobs were exploding at 2am and I had to express some off to allow him to latch on. I think we may take a while to adjust .

aww sponge he'll go for longer soon

well I'm hoping Abbie has developed into a pattern, she's been going down at 11.30ish and thats her to 7 in the morning and in her own crib, well she falls asleep on me then I move her to her crib. Missing co-sleeping but DP was moaning that he was getting a rubbish nights sleep as she was taking over the bed but after her 7am feed we cuddle back to sleep which is lovely.

We took ruben to his first wedding today where he wore the cutest outfit and was admired by everyone. he was even mentioned in the speeches as being the youngest guest! He did manage to throw up most of his feed on my lovely pale pink suit trousers (dry clean only, but bought pre-pregnancy and fitted ok!) but that was the only hitch, otherwise he was as good as gold, sleeping through the service and everything!

I too have had the experience of waking up soaked in milk, right through all the covers. If you lay on your side the breast pads go all over the place, so i think its a bit of an art figuring it out!

Hi all!!! Hope you and your cherubs are well. Sorry for not posting more. It's an effort to even call Mum at the mo.
Georgina is doing great. She has been generally content and now 5 weeks tommorow! Smiling lots for us. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who lets baby fall asleep on them and them move to crib sweetkitty. She has had an unsettled day really. Has had an extra full feed, so must be a growth spurt! Nights are ok mthough. Goes down (eventually) around 9pm and feeds about 2-3am and that's it till 7.30. She doesn't sleep much in the day though unless we're shopping!!
I've had an infection in my c sec wound but hopefully it will go soon!
Does anyone else still relive the birth when awake in the night??? Please tell me I'm not a freak! Did this with my first, took ages to get out of my system! Qxx

Harry only woke up once last night - hurrah.
I fed him when we went to bed, just after 10, and he slept till 2. Dh gave him a bottle, he drank 6oz and still wouldn't settle so I bf him a bit which calmed him down and he fell asleep beside me and didn't stir until 6.40 .
May not seem like much to those like Sweetkitty who have an all night sleeper already but for me this is a big breakthrough. Let's hope he keeps it up .
Quackers, having him fall asleep on one of us - either cuddling or feeding - is the only way we achieve it. If I put him down awake he just yells. I don't really mind this. Gina Ford might say he's learning the wrong sleep associations but he's only little and I figure any way we can get him to sleep is fine and we can train him later once he's old enough to learn.

sponge - the downside to sleeping all night is that she is awake all day suppose I shouldn't moan but she is not happy unless she is with you, I get nothing done.

I'm the exact same she will only fall asleep feeding or on me then I have to sit there and judge when to move her, too early and she wakes up again. I know Gina would have a field day with me too.

I know how you feel. Harry's not good at being put down either. I have a mountain of ironing now .
It can be quite frustrating when you're used to being active & busy but I guess we'll just have to get used to having the excuse to be lazy.
I'm getting quite adept at one hand typing though, but can't stretch to the question mark .

Hi all. Just wanted to say that all of mine fell asleep on me and were then put to bed/cot. I can honestly say that I have never had a night's trouble with any of them as a result, so I'm afraid I would have to say that Gina isn't always right! I firmly believe that you do what you need to do to get a good night's sleep; you and baby. I co slept in the beginning with all of them, and still am with this little one. Never caused probs.

good to read these posts, read the 'baby whisperer' on loan from ghosty and was starting to feel a bit of a 'failure' because I just cannot get max into any sort of pattern, except his good sleep from 8.30-midday (ish). he will only go to sleep attached to my boob which means I cannot do anything during the day and am awake from midnight - 4 every morning when he is using me as a dummy. am starting to feel really tired though. unfortunately DS1 has the flu so have been up the past 2 nights with him as well and...fell over on Thursday and am black and blue feeling like I have been kicked by a donkey. fortunately the c/s scar seems ok on the outside but am very bruised otherwise. was holding max so threw myself backwards rather than forwards and he slept through the whole thing. all the mums at playgroup were rather impressed with my olga korbett like recovery though - with a superbly executed starsky and hutch style roll at the end!! quite superb even if I do say so myself, down side now, cannot walk without paracetamol and darling dh has (think swear word of your choice) gone to the rubgy and golf for the weekend with the boys and left me to it...don't we just love them. he did however win the meat rafle in teh pub last night on his way home from work so announced ealry this morning when he left that I should be alright as there is food in the house!! ahh bless
