Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

jess is a nightmare - always has been and i honestly think always will be!

7-7.30am - breakfast... 1 tin of heinz fruit puree

8am - milk... 6-8oz

10ish - nap ( usually takes a few ounces of milk to settle her)

11.30-12noon - Lunch - 1/2 tin of savoury (really not keen on savoury) and a baby yoghurt

12.30-1pm - milk - 8oz

2pm - nap

3.30pm - tea time - 1/2 tin savoury, baby yoghurt

Plays and munches on rusks til 4.45pm

4.45pm - bath

5.15pm - bed

9.30pm - milk - 8oz

1am - dummy

4.30am - milk - 4oz

7am - breakfast again!!!

Of course it varies slightly depending on what i have to do, but generally that is pretty much what she is like! Same problem here in that she really doesnt tend to like her savoury food, but we are getting there!

Sam seems to follow a similar routine to everyone else although he's not yet 6 months so not on yoghurt or dairy yet. He has breakfast quite late because he's normally woken up between 4am and 6am for a bottle.

8.30am - Breakfast - banana with baby rice and 4-6 oz milk
9.30ish - nap (but only for 20-20 mins max)
11.30-12.00 Lunch - veg puree and 4-6 oz milk (tried giving him juice or water but he won't take it yet!)
2.30pm 9oz bottle
5pm Tea - fruit or veg puree with small drink (again, trying the juice/water thing here but not working yet)
5.30pm bath
6.30pm 9oz bottle
7pm bed
10pm 7oz bottle
Between 4am and 6am -another 7 oz bottle.

Sounds a lot but he is a very big boy (over 21lbs and 69 cm long) so he just gets too hungry otherwise!

cricket · 02/02/2005 13:21

Oh and he naps at about 1pm (asleep now!) and at about 3pm too for about 20-30 mins. Forgot to add that!

Evening all, Thank you for all the welcome messages.. Poppys sleeping really well ever since she was 9 weeks old she has been sleeping through from 7.30 till 7.30, i think i have been very lucky.

She has her first feed at 7.30, does anyone think i should now offer her some breakfast first? As at moment she is only having one meal a day 12.30ish and milk feeds at 7.30, 10.30, 3.30 and 7.30. (Also she has a yoghurt about 4.30ish) Do you think i should increase the yoghurt at tea time to a dinner or introduce a breakfast.

Hope some of that makes sense!!

Sponge · 03/02/2005 12:48

Personally I'd start by introducing a breakfast mmmchoc. Harry has his last "meal" at about 3.30/4pm and I was finding if I tried to feed him solids in the evening it was nsettling him at night - maybe too close to bedtime causing indigention or something.
SK he also goes to bed about 7.30/8pm and goes through to 7am ish with one wake-up for milk, so similar to Abbie when he's on form. Just sometimes he decides not to settle back after his feed.
It is nice having your evening back isn't it. WE now have both kids in bed and asleep (or at least left alone) by 8.30pm and so have a couple of hours to have dinner in peace, watch TV etc. Much nicer than when Harry was up till 11.
Jessicasmummy, why does Jess go to bed so early? I'd have thought she's bound to wake up a couple of times and be fully awake pretty early if she's in bed by 5.30. Any chance you could gradually push bedtime back a bit and you might get only one wake up and a later start to the day.
If Harry goes to sleep this early I treat it as a nap and wake him up for a bath etc at about 6 and put him back down at 8. Just a thought.

littlerach · 03/02/2005 18:58

I would agree, try her with breakfast, it can't hurt!!!

Evie is on 3 meals a day, then has a bottle between meals when she will take it!! She had a rice cake at the weekend and was so proud of herself!!

MrsEvs · 03/02/2005 22:08

I have been wondering about finger foods. I had thought about rice cakes littlerach, did she manage it OK? What else are people trying?

jessicasmummy · 03/02/2005 22:10

we are on the same thing here...... i need to know about finger foods... tred discussing with HV today but what a waste of space! She will suck a rusk to death but thats about it!

sweetkitty · 04/02/2005 09:44

well I spoke too soon she went down at 8 last night but got back up again at 9 and stayed awake until 10ish but it was ER night so DP was in charge!!! She did sleep through to 6 (I think) and get up at 8 so can't really complain.

Think I might try her with some rice cakes as well this weekend. Was also thinking about those Bickiepegs teething biscuits anyone tried them?

littlerach · 04/02/2005 09:56

Ricecakes were fine, they dissolve easily so they are unlikely to choke!!!!
We have some Bicciepegs in the cupboard but they look and smell like dog biscuits!!!!
Could try toast, banana (but it stains!) or pear. Evie has no teeth yet so am wary of anything too tough.

We had a better night, phew!!

jessicasmummy · 04/02/2005 10:37

Tried jess on banana this morning - WHAT A MESS! I dont think any of it was actually swallowed! Also let her have a chew on a piece of apple - her face was a picture!!! Didnt like that one much! Are these bicciepegs cow & gate??? Im not sure what my mate gave her yesterday but it looked like a dog biscuit!!!

Eshay · 04/02/2005 10:44

DS likes sucking on rusks but they make such a mess. I've tried him with 'dog biscuits' but bits break off too easily, causing a coughing fit. I give him cheese now and again, cut into a long strip that he can hold in his fist. He loves it. He loves holding on to banana and a big chunk of cucumber. Also loves sucking on a piece of clementine but I have to stay right next to him as he quite enjoys shoving the whole thing in his mouth. I haven't tried ricecakes yet as I thought they would fall apart and go down the wrong way. After reading some of your comments I'll try them soon.
DS has always been a very good sleeper but recently he has crying fits around 11pm. He seems to be half asleep but cries like he has never done before. He's not hungry or thirsty, maybe they're bad dreams or something. I have to go in and pat his head until he is asleep again. I did read that around this age new sleeping problems can occur, like headbanging etc. Scary thought...
We are staying with my parents at the moment and when he wakes up we're going swimming for the first time. Very exciting!

jessicasmummy · 04/02/2005 10:46

Eshay - good luck swimming! Jess absolutely loves it but i have to travel to get to a decent pool! Warminster isnt the nicest or warmest by far!!!!

littlerach · 04/02/2005 10:48

Eshay that is EXACTLY what Evie does, and has done for about a month. It is like she is half awake and panics and screams. The other night we put the hoover on in her room and she just stopped, eventually she went back to sleep.

I have just got a "whitenoise" cd from a very kind Mnetter, so will try this tonight. I do wonder if it something that disturbs her, so this may drown it out!!!

littlerach · 04/02/2005 10:49

JM, have you tried Bradford on Avon? Ooohhh it is lovely and warm in the little pool and usually quiet. Will tell you more on Tues!!

jessicasmummy · 04/02/2005 10:57

i havent been to any round here tbh, tend to wait til i go to my dads because it so sooo lovely and warm! Proper little baby pool that is deep enoguh to sit in and stay warm while you are bouncing your little bundle up and down!

Eshay · 04/02/2005 16:18

Little Arch, I'll have to try out the Hoover technique if he keeps doing it. Have you talked to your neighbours since trying it? ;) He doesn't do it every night so I'll try his musical mobile and his sleepy time CD's first. I hadn't actually thought of using sound/noise. Thanks for the ideas.
The swimming didn't happen today as DS decided to take the longest nap in ages. However, we've got another swimming session planned for Monday -he shouldn't be so tired then as he won't have just travelled to the Netherlands the day before.

MrsEvs · 07/02/2005 15:10

Phoebe is having real probs at night at the moment too. All this week she has been waking at 2.30/3.30am, not hungry or thirsty and just needing a cuddle to go back to sleep. Before this I had only had to get out of bed to her twice since she was 3 weeks old!

She has got 2 little teeth coming through (just little white lines in her gums at the mo - but sharp ), so I wondered if that was it. I thought the first ones weren't supposed to hurt?! Poor little thing.

sweetkitty · 07/02/2005 21:45

we got tooth number 3 through now upper front right looks like shes gonna have a gap between her front 2 teeth or do the others push them together they look so big in her little mouth, don't seem to be bothering her that much been giving her Ashtons and Parsons once a day just in case, she spent the whole day (apart from her naps) singing da da da da over and over again I'll be hearing it in my sleep tonight!

littlerach · 08/02/2005 11:16

Sweetkitty, DD1 has a gap at the top and it looks cute - apparently it is lucky too!??

Well, she has been doing the screaming again, have had a couple of better nights, then absolute hell. She has started sleeping on her front, scarey but you can't stop her! Spoke to HV today who has recommended Chamomilla granules(?). Anyone used these?

jessicasmummy · 08/02/2005 11:18

little rach - you may have to tell me about them later! Jess is a nightmare and just refuses to sleep through! now gone from once a night to 3 or 4 times.... we are all shattered! Just trying to get her to have a sleep before all the excitement tires her out later!

Sponge · 08/02/2005 13:00

Oh God.
After a pretty good week Harry has got the tummy bug back.
Started puking again on Saturday morning and then developed terrible diarrhea and hasn't kept anything in since, although the throwing up has eased.
Milk seems to make it much worse so we're trying to keep him off it but it's all he wants and he just screams and screams if we try and give him dioralyte, juice or water.
We're trying a diet of banana and slightly sugared water today but I'm not sure how strong dh will be (at home with him today) if he keeps screaming for milk.
Three really bad nights in a row so I'm knackered .

littlerach · 08/02/2005 18:32

sorry to hear that sponge, hope hes better soon.

just to tell you all, jessica (of jessicasmummy) is the cutest ever!! we met them today at a meet up, and she is gorgeous!!!

jessicasmummy · 08/02/2005 20:54

awwwww.... thanks rach! That is really sweet of you but milly and evie are well cute too!

cricket · 09/02/2005 09:40

littlerach - try Nelson's Teetha - they are homeopathic chamomile granules and do seem to calm down Sammy when he's teething or generally upset.
Got invited to a baby swimming class yesterday for the first time in a lovely little pool. Sam and I really enjoyed ourselves (although I was more nervous than he was!!)
