Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Hi everyone, not posted for a while but keep reading the thread.
My Ds 3 has gien up sleeping in the day except for 2 short sleeps of 20 mins ( if I'm lucky ) although he goes to bed at 8.30 pm and sleeps through. He used to wake at 6ish but for the last 10 days he has woken me up at 4.50am on the dot!
Beginning to look forward to going back to work in 2 weeks and let the nursery entertain him for 2 days a week. Finding it very wearing him being awake so much in the day but not able to play much ( he is just 5 months.

Jessicasmummy - Madly also TTC ! glad others with same age babies are too.would like a small a gap as possible

jessicasmummy · 28/01/2005 12:16

lexy b - thank god - im not the only nutter on here then!!!

jess has just gone down for a nap - with any luck that will be her til about 2pm now - hoorah! Should really tidy up, but cant be arsed and would rather sit and chat!!!

littlerach · 28/01/2005 18:38

We ahve just got back from our first swim with Evie and she loved it! She has also scoffed her dinner, so must have improved her appetite.
And DD1 was sooo proud to have Evie with her!

jessicasmummy · 28/01/2005 22:44

little rach - where did u take her? Jess also loves swimming - she just adores the water! Screams at bath time becuase she doesnt want to get out!

if u get time, catch up with the meet up thread and let us know what u think....

MrsEvs · 28/01/2005 23:35

Phoebe usually has 3 naps in the day (sometimes just 2), but they are only ever 20-30 mins each. She does go to bed at around 7.30 though and sleeps through til 8am, so it seems to suit her. I sometimes wish she would sleep for longer in ths day so I got get things done, but she sleeps so well at night I can't complain

Went to my first playgroup this week, was dreading it a bit as wasn't sure what the American Mums would be like, but I actually enjoyed it, and Phoebe was amazed to see other babies her age - I think she thought she was the only little one !

They told me about this excellent thing they do at the local cinema. They have 2 shows a week that are for mums and babies. They don't show kids films, the films are for the parents (this week is Million Dollar Baby), but they leave the lights on so you can feed/look after the baby, and it's all mums and little ones so noone bats an eyelid when kids are screaming. Am so excited - I haven't been to the cinema since Phoebe was born What a good idea!

Eshay · 29/01/2005 10:48

MrsEvs, I go to a mum and baby morning in London fairly regularly and it's great! After the first 5 mins you tune out all the baby noises and watch the film. DS usually watches the lights for 10 mins, has a bottle, sleeps for the rest of it! Great fun for mums and also another way to meet other mums in the area.

I still haven't taken DS to the pool because of his sticky eye problems but this week they seem to be much better (I've been massaging under his eye so the blocked ducts may have popped open) so I'm going to take him next week when I'm visiting my parents. He loves his bath so I'm sure he will love the pool. Can't wait!

cricket · 31/01/2005 08:36

Wish my local cinema did that - sounds like a great idea. Was dying to see some films now that Sam is going to bed earlier, so I've joined one of those DVD clubs , where you pay a tenner a month and they send you unlimited films. It's great! (if I can stay awake to watch them that is, was up very early with Sam today and want to go back to bed already!)

Sponge · 31/01/2005 11:07

Harry tends to still have 3 naps a day although only one of them will ever be for more than 30-45 mins.
He's slept a bit better the last couple of nights - back to his normal 8pm bed through to the morning with one wake-up for milk.
I'm going to up his meals to 3 a day this week now that his tummy seems to have finally settled. He's 6 months old this weekend so I'd like to feel there was at least some hope of him sleeping through soon.
I think cow's milk products - yoghurts, cheese etc - are fine after 6 months although you should wait until 12 months to replace formula with cow's milk to drink. I'm going to keep Harry on the fruit and veg and baby rice this week and then move on to some protein ingredients next week if it all goes well.
He's rolling all the time now but still showing no signs of sitting up. If we prop him up well he stays upright for a few minutes and then topples forwards when he reaches for something. I'm sure dd could sit up at 6 months but I guess they're all different.

littlerach · 01/02/2005 13:53

well after another crap night, she is going in her own room. she woke at 10pm just after we had gone to bed, and screamed until 11.30, finally got to bed at midnight. then she disturbed every so often, woke at 6am for the day. then was knackered and slept for 20 mins this morning, and then screamed as she was so tired. I really don't know what to do anymore, any words of wisdom?

cricket, have you seen we have changed our meet up? would be great to see you!!

jessicasmummy · 01/02/2005 14:09

little rach - u sure u werent looking after jess last night?! exaclt the same.... as i sit here i can hear her crying in her cot - and im an evil mummy coz i just dont care right now!!!

MrsEvs · 01/02/2005 14:54

Can't think of any suggestions I'm afraid littlerach

Not quite as bad as you guys but Phoebe woke up every 1/2 hr after her usual bed time until around 11.30 last night, which is unlike her. All she seemed to want was a cuddle and she went back off - don't know what it was. The only thing I can think of was that she woke herself up farting . Whenever I went in she was trumping away!

Got her 6 month check up today and 3rd round of shots - I hate watching them stick those needles in her, poor little mite - all necessary though, I know.

Sponge · 01/02/2005 15:34

Hmm I spoke too soon. Bad night for us too - perhaps there was something in the air.
Harry was grumpy when I picked him up from nursery and remained subdues and grumpy throughout his bath which he normally loves. Then screamed supposedly with hunger but drank next to nothing and then fell asleep. Woke up after 1/2 hour, fell asleep when I cuddled him but wouldn't be put down so I held him watching TV until 10pm when I finally got him into his cot. Then regular wake-ups and srizzling through the night but wouldn't have a decent feed until 5.30. Tired again .
Woke up very cheerful this morning though so let's hope for better tonight.

Spacecadet · 01/02/2005 18:02

Emily hasnt slept for 4 nights and nether have we...she is really grizzly and miserable..it must be teething, she looks like a rabid dog!please let them come thru soon, i need some sleep!

Allycat · 01/02/2005 18:16

Hi everyone. I'm new to Mumsnet so be gentle with me! ds2 was born on 27 July so it 6m1w now. I've been reading your thread and its seems he is the same as all of your little ones. He is on 3 meals and sleeps quite well but does seem to go through phases. If he does wake up he either needs to burp or his nappy has leaked (again)! Hope you dont mind me gatecrashing.

MrsEvs · 01/02/2005 21:10

Welcome Allycat your ds has the same birthday as my dd!

Just back from our docs visit. Phoebe is 18lbs 4 and 27inches, so all well. Hated the jabs though poor thing.

All the babies seem slightly unsettled at the mo by the sounds of things, so it must be a phase

Allycat · 01/02/2005 21:41

Hiya - thanks for making me feel welcome! My ds2 was 15lb 14oz Monday before last so you have a bruiser!! He was 10lb 2oz born but since then he has really dropped on the chart. I'm not worried though as he is in proportion and scoffing well. I hate those charts I reckon they are just there to make you feel like a crap mum! I have no idea why he was so big - my ds1 was only 8lb when he was born. As for the jabs - he hasn't had them. We have had a few problems with ds1 as he is mildly AS. I'm kind of sticking my head in the sand really and hoping that he won't catch anything nasty!

mmmmchocolate · 01/02/2005 22:08

Hello all, I am new to mumsnet too, My DD was born on 25th August she weighed 15lb 3oz last tuesday. I have found it interesting reading all the messages and comparing babies. She is only on one meal a day and was wondering when would be the best time to introduce another, her routine is:
7.30 Milk 5/6oz
11.00 Milk 5/6oz
1 Dinner
3.30 Milk 5/6oz
4.30 Yoghurt
7.15/30 Milk 5/6oz

Any advice welcome. Thank you in advance.

Hi there. I think I added another meal every week. Basically if she eats it - shes ready! Whats the worst that can happen?! Cor maybe Josh is underweight. Are you b/feeding?

mmmmchocolate · 01/02/2005 22:44

No gave up at 4 weeks. How much does Josh weight? I am worried if i introduce another meal to Poppys diet her milk intake will go down. But when i give her her milk she isn't that interested but as soon as the bowl and spoon are out she is so excited, cries between mouthfuls if i don't do it fast enough....
What feeding times and bottle time do you use?

cricket · 02/02/2005 09:01

littlerach - can't find the details re meet up. Is it on a different thread or am I just too tired to see it? Sammy had a very bad night on Sunday but has been better the last two. Think there is something in the air at the moment! Talking about own rooms though - he's slept so much better since he's been in there! Think we kept disturbing him before...
Welcome Allycat and Mmmmchoc!

littlerach · 02/02/2005 10:57

Hi cricket, it is wilts meetup, 7th feb, but has changed to tues 8th in frome, CAT me if you still can't find it!! Can't do links I'm afraid!

Better night, she was in bed by 6.30 and in her own room, woke at midnight and had a bottle, then sod's law, DD1 woke her at 4am by shouting she needed a wee!! So we were all up for half an hr, then all got up at 6.30am, not too bad really!

Sponge · 02/02/2005 12:11

Welcome Alleycat and Mmmmchocolate. Always happy to have new members to share our gripes and joys with.
Better night, sort of, from Harry too. Didn't wake up till 4am - that was the good bit - but once awake and milk drunk he then decided he wanted to chat for about an hour. Cute but exasperating .
I would count yogurt as sort of another meal mmmchoc and it counts towards his milk intake too.
Harry has just moved on to 3 meals and he does drink less milk at solids times but makes up for it in between.
Tends to have:
Breakfast 7.30am - 3/4 oz milk followed by baby rice and banana
Milk - 10ish - 5oz
Lunch - 11.30 - veg and fruit purees + water
Milk - 1ish - anything from 2-5oz
Tea - 3.30 - veg and fruit + water
Milk - 4pm - doesn't tend to drink much here
Milk - 7.30pm - about 5oz
Night-time wake-up milk - whenever - 5oz.
Altogether he seems to drink at least a pint a day and he seems well so I'm not too worried if he doesn't take much at one or two feeds. At 6 months they start to need other nutrients as well.

sweetkitty · 02/02/2005 12:37

welcome alleycat and mmmchocolate

Can I be in the minority (don't want anyone shouting at me though) but Abbie is sleeping far better these days, she always gone through from 11-6am (I know I know) but now we see her getting sleepy at about 8pm we put her straight to bed and she falls asleep (maybe has a little milk first) she is waking at 4am though for a quick feed and off to sleep then she might have one at 6am sometimes not. So apart from the quick feeds she's sleeping 8-8 I'm so happy DP and I have our evenings back. I think the key has been if she's sleepy I put her down in bed she cries for a bit then goes to sleep. It's a big difference to her sleeping on me of being BF to sleep and being up until 11pm.

She's still in our bed I know it's not ideal but we are all getting a good nights sleep. I've tried her in the travel cot a few times to no avail (I think it's the bars she hates) II'll keep putting her in it I think she's thinks it's a playgym.

Solids going really well (she's 28 weeks now and on 3 meals a day) she's got her mums sweet tooth though as she'll close her mouth to the savoury stuff as if she's finished but manages to polish off the fruit! I don't know how much milk she's taking but I offer her a boob about 5-6 times a day.
