Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Sorry littlearch can't you give any advice.
I hope DD setles down soon

littlerach · 25/01/2005 15:49

Thanks for all the ideas, will let you know what happens...xxx

Chickyboo · 25/01/2005 18:21

woops!!! meant to say 'can't give you any advice'

cricket · 26/01/2005 12:52

littlerach - hope Evie settles down. My only other ideas are similar to what others have said - could she be a bit poorly or teething or is she cold? It's real torture when they start waking up again after sleeping through for a while - it really knocks the stuffing out of you!!
Took Sam to be weighed this week and he is 21 lbs 1 oz and 69 cms long at 23 weeks. All the health visitors and doctors make comments about how huge he is all the time. Does anyone else get this because it really winds me up! one of the nurses suggested that he was fat and putting him on a diet (she was joking but seemed a bit much to make a comment like that.) To me he is just a big hungry lad - very long and very cuddly too!

cricket · 26/01/2005 12:54

Oh and I meant to say that he hasn't taken to using a cup at all yet. He won't try it with milk or with water - just wrinkles his nose up and pushes it away....

jessicasmummy · 26/01/2005 12:55

cricket - jess is the same - doesnt like her cup!

Anyone on here ttc again ???? or am i just plain mad???

littlerach · 26/01/2005 14:22

Erm, mad!! Think 2 is my limit now!!!

Evie had a bit of a better night, she does seema bit phlegmy (?) so may be getting a cold, we shall see.

Everyone tells me how small she is, just 14lbs, Cricket, but I know what you mean.

She drinks water from a cup, since last night!!

MrsEvs · 26/01/2005 14:59

Don't think you're mad, so much as bloody brave jessicasmummy . And that goes for Spacecadet and Chicpea too who are already expecting again - wow!

Defo want more, and was actually thinking about when the other day, but think we'll wait til Phoebe is closer to a year. Those of you with older kids - what have you found to be the best gap out of interest??

MrsEvs · 26/01/2005 15:01

Meant to say Cricket - what a cheeky nurse ! Some people just have no sensitivity at all - babies are meant to be lovely and chubby at this stage, they burn it all off as soon as they get mobile, ignore them.

Sponge · 26/01/2005 15:52

Very brave Jessicasmummy.
I'm definitely not having any more but do already have 2 so I'm sure woukd feel deifferently if this was my first.
There's a 4 year age gap between my 2 which is more than I would have ideally planned but it's working out pretty well as dd is old enough not to suffer to much jealousy, to be quite self sufficientr so I have a bit of time for Harry and to help out a bit.
Tiring to go back to the baby stage again once you've got right through it though so a smaller gap has its advantages as well.
I think you just try when you feel ready to try and it happens when it happens. And whatever happens you'll always love your babies.

Harry has a first tooth btw. An upper side one rather than the traditional middle bottom approach. Very cute.

littlerach · 26/01/2005 16:15

there's 3 yrs and 5 months beween DDs, seems to work very well.

cricket · 26/01/2005 16:34

Jessicasmummy - I just had to look up TTC (being a newbie not used to such phrases!)

Am impressed and amazed. Very brave.

Definitely want more but not for a while yet...can still remember the birth too vividly...

(as you can see, I've just discovered smileys too!!)

dinosaur · 26/01/2005 16:43

I'm emphatically NOT ttc - three is enough for me - but I remember that by the time DS1 was six months old I was already planning when DH and I would start ttc again.

There is exactly two years between my DS1 and DS2, which has worked out very well as they play together all the time now (they're three and five). There is a three year gap between DS2 and DS3, so I suspect that he and DS2 will not play so well together as DS2 and DS1. But on the positive side, a three year old and a newborn is much easier than a two year old and a newborn.

jessicasmummy · 26/01/2005 17:52

maybe im not doing things right but too late now!!! DH is far to concerned with "babymaking" than to even hold a conversation with me at the moment!
Any tips for jessica's cold?????? It been AGES since she last had one - best medicines etc?

littlerach · 26/01/2005 19:17

Medised is good, knocks them out too!!
I have posted on the Wilts thread for you too!

jessicasmummy · 26/01/2005 19:40

nice one little rach - have been using medised... seems to be the only thing she will take. wont take calpol without spitting half of it all over the place. didnt know if there was anything else?

here's to 7th feb!!!

Sponge · 27/01/2005 10:04

Blimey what a night.
Harry went down like a dream at 8pm, woke up for a bit of a grizzle at midnight but settled again. Woke up properly at 2.30 - wanted milk and had done a pooh . Had to change him which woke him up properly, the drank his milk but wouldn't settle back down again. Tried him in his cot and in bed with us but no luck. After an hour of him whimpering I made a couple more ounces of milk with a dose of Medised. Drank that down and seemd to settle him so put him in bed between us. He promptly threw up all over our bed. So we all had to get up, change sheets, change his pyjamas etc. Finally got him back to sleep close to 5am. God I'm tired. Have a big meeting today as well .

littlerach · 27/01/2005 10:11

Sorry to hear that Sponge, Evie does that with Medised, have stopped giving it her now, the smell of it....yuck!

We had a slightly better night again, she woke twice, although at 10.30 she screamed for 20 mins, and I mean screamed. Nothing pacifies her and I just had to let her scream. She then woke at 1.30am and has a bottle and went back down easily. Then we all woke up at 7am which is fine!

sweetkitty · 27/01/2005 17:19

hi all

I keep thinking about another already but with the relocation and trying to get into college baby plans are on hold. If I don't get intp college who knows.

Abbie's got 2 teeth now her front bottom ones don't seem to be bothering her too much but she likes to grab your fingers and bite them ouch!!

She's 15lb 9ozs last week so on the small side too.

Better go got viewers at 5.30pm keep everything crossed for me.

Eshay · 27/01/2005 21:46

Poor Sponge - what a night. I hope you'll be able to turn in early tonight and have a good sleep.
DS has been sleeping a bit less in the day recently. I've been out and about much so maybe it's just that he was too excited to fall asleep but maybe he's getting to the stage where he only needs 2 naps in the day. Does that sound like something that could happen at 6.5 months?

jessicasmummy · 27/01/2005 22:01

i wish jess would have 2 naps a day! She tends to have one long nap at lunch time!

she weighs in at 17lb 2oz as of today.... little piggy!

well knackered today... she had a bad night, and with DH's snoring i was looking at the clock every twenty minutes!

she is started to roll a bit more now, but still only when she feels like it... once or twice in a 3 day period!

littlerach · 28/01/2005 08:31

Hurrah! She only woke once last night, had a bottle and went straight back down. I feel like a new woman!!

Generally she has 3 naps of 45 mins a day, although if we are doing a lot of running around, like pre school, gym etc, then she naps on the run!! Poor thing.

More questions: When you make things like cheeses sauce, custard etc, do you use formula or cows milk? And what kind of yoghurts? You would not believe I have done all of this before!!

jessicasmummy · 28/01/2005 09:14

hi LR! you had a better night than me - jess was up at least 8 times last night... what am i doing wrong??? Im in such a bad mood now today, and have no patience for her - feel terrible for feeling this way.

not sure about you're questions... i give jess the whinnie the pooh fromage frais... only because im pooh bear mad!!!

sweetkitty · 28/01/2005 09:48

when cooking I use cows milk full fat shes fine with it now

I'm not bothering with the little childrens yoghurts as they are full of sugar (even the Danone baby ones and Petit Filous) I give her a few spoonfuls of full fat natural yoghurt and some mashed banana or a spoonful of other fruit to sweeten it. It's much cheaper as well.

I can't complain about Abbie's sleeping although last night she went down at 8.30pm had a quick feed at 2 and then again at 6 we got up at 8. Daytime naps are still all over the place we might get 2 we might get one depends on her really.

littlerach · 28/01/2005 09:51

Thanks both of you, have been doing Petit Filous (?) soo expensive! Will go onto natural yoghurts. I am sure this is what we did with DD1, couldn't remember what age though!
