Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

She still has her cold bless her was horrible listening to her snuffling away in her sleep. She tries and bites the spoon when we give her the calpol and the lok on her face is so funny.

Had a night out last night was a bit worse for wear this morning DP had a great time with DD I left 2 8oz bottles and said to him "I don't think she'll take it all" he rang me to say she gulped the both of them by 10pm and she had a boob at 1am when I got back. I never know how much she takes. I haven't given her a bottle since she was 10 weeks but DP said she wasn't fazed by it at all once she realised milk was coming out of it.

Hope no one minds me posting on here as I didnt post on the ante-natal clubs.I had my dd on 20th July but I have been ill since she was 7 weeks old with pnd so have been a rp on the feeling low thread.I have just started to feel well enough to want to post about something other than my deprression! Ive just suddenly realised that my dd is now almost 5 months old eekk!! Where has the time gone? I wish I had discovered mn when I was preg with her, never mind!

moondog · 11/12/2004 13:07

So sorry that you have been down Spacecadet and glad that things are better now. I only discovered Mumsnet quite by accident about 3 weeks ago and wish I'd known about it before.
(Having said that, Ive spent quite enough time on it already as it is!)

merrykittymas · 11/12/2004 14:30

welcome spacecadet

my DD was born on 20th July too, sorry to hear about your pnd I haven't suffered from it but have had depression on and off since my teens so know what it's like.

I can't believe my DD 5 months next week either have you started weaning I think we are going to start next week?

Xmasspongecake · 11/12/2004 14:35

Glad you're feeling better Spacecadet. Welcome.
Harry's cold is still bad although a few drops of Olbas on a tissue in the room last night helped his breathing. Still got a nasty hacking cough though and on Friday developed horrible conjunctivitus. Dd has had this often but never as severe. His eyes were bright red and really gummed up and every time I wiped them they just gummed straight back up again. Having said that we put some drops in last night and this morning and already it's almost cleared up. The marvellous healing powers of the tiny body Smile.

HelloMama · 11/12/2004 14:39

hi again. I've been lurking a bit recently. Ruben has had 2 colds which have been eased with the magic 'medised' medicine which acts like a general anaesthetic at night. Brilliant. He doesn't like it though, so feel like the cruellest mum in the world whilst trying to give it to him :( I'm starting a new job one day a week in the new year, with DH being a stay-at-home dad on that day. I have the induction next week, working 3 full days away from DS! Eeek! Have been expressing like a maniac Shock The only other thing is that I have been going crazy about not having any time to myself. Love being with DS and feel selfish thinking this way but am finding lack of independence very hard.

Spacecadetiscomingtotown · 11/12/2004 15:47

Hello everyone, lovely to hear your dd shares the same bd as my dd kitty, yes I have just started to wean her, she is a very hungry girl! She is my 4th and I remember weaning the others earlier but the hv said that they like you to try and wait until 16 weeks at least if not 6 months, I couldnt leave her till 6 months!!! she would be eating her own clothes Grin. Started her on baby rice and she is now having vegetable and fruit purees

Spacecadetiscomingtotown · 11/12/2004 15:51

moondog I think I have already made up for the time that I hadnt discovered mn!!!

merrykittymas · 11/12/2004 16:27

It is totally addictive.

Abbie loves her calpol she bites the spoon off me maybe she is ready for solids. I keep thinking well 2 years ago she would have started solids by now. She'll be 22 weeks by the time she starts it's hardly early weaning.

She has now discovered she can make a new noise screaming so she yells over and over again, couldn't get hearing the TV today but her Grans are delighted she is talking to them over the phone. I kind of feel sorry for them they haven't seen her since she was 10 weeks and she's changed so much and they won't get to spend her first Christmas with her.

Spacecadetiscomingtotown · 11/12/2004 22:01

If shes trying to eat the spoon sounds like she might be ready!Emily has just discovered her feet and spends a great deal of time trying to grab hold of them!!she adores the xmas tree!

MrsEvs · 12/12/2004 17:51

Hello, been ages again sorry, but had my Mum and parents in law over to visit which has been lovely. We've only been in this house a month, so they've been helping us put up cutains and pictures - starting to feel really homey now. Will be sad to be on my own again this week.

Phoebe keeps me entertained though. Had her 2nd round of jabs this week. Is now 16lbs so I overestimated a bit and 27 inches. Is starting to get too big for her infant car seat so need to get a new one this week, prob one of those that converts to a front facing toddler seat - any suggestions? Mind you they have some different brands out here in the US, but I'm sure some are the same. Any advice would be welcome - the choice (and price!) is overwhelming!

She is still really enjoying the solids. Was also doing the shrieking/talking thing, but this week has started her own language of oohhs and ahhs, it's so funny the way she moves her mouth when she's doing it - she often looks suprised by the sounds that come out LOL

Don't know what to get her for Chrimbo - my Mum made her a really cute stocking with her name on, what is eveyone getting for their little ones?

Xmasspongecake · 13/12/2004 14:20

We weren't going to get Harry anything for Xmas as he won't have a clue but I felt guilty so have got him an activity centre type toy with things to press, turn etc that makes noises and plays tunes. Meant to be suitable from 3 months but I can't see him playing much until he can sit up.
Taking him to the doctor this afternoon as his cough is still bad and his eyes haven't cleared up after 3 days of Brolene drops. Poor little mite can't open them when he wakes up until we unglue him Sad.
Anyone else not started their periods yet? I still haven't although gave up bf completely a month ago.

merrykittymas · 13/12/2004 15:05

hi all

I've kind of got Abbie some presents, some first books and some toys I would have bought her anyway like stacking cups. I'm thinking of getting her a bear from the bear factory as well so it can be her first xmas bear. Most relatives have sent her money already so I'll shove it in her bank account till she needs some new things.

Hope Harrys better soon sponge poor wee mite.

merrykittymas · 13/12/2004 15:06

no sign of periods here yet had one light one about 8 weeks ago but nothing since then (still bf)

littledonkeyrach · 13/12/2004 15:40

well, we are really mean - we have bought Evie a bowl etc, some dummies, some bibs and some toiletries!!! She needs nothing!!

Took them both to m & t xmas party, Evie loved it, all the singing and clapping and the lights.

Spacecadetiscomingtotown · 14/12/2004 15:03

We have bought Emily a kick and play piano which attaches to the cot, most relatives are sending money and My aunt has bought her a bear from Hamleys.

Xmasspongecake · 14/12/2004 20:42

We've kept all dd's toys so Harry doesn't really need any new ones. I've asked most people to get him clothes as he's moving through them quite quickly. Not used to this as dd stayed tiny for ages.

Toothache · 15/12/2004 09:50

Hello all!

I'm still here and doing great. Beth is just a dream come true. At last weigh in she was 16lb 4oz!!! When she was born she was on the 25th centile on the weight chart.... now she's on the 91st! Anyone else's little bundle jumped up in weight like that? She doesn't look big, I was quite worried when I heard her weight. She doesn't even eat that much. Poor lass has been cursed with her Mother's metabolism.... it saps every feckin calorie out of every morsal of food she consumes, and then it sits on her thighs!!! I'll apologise to her when she hits puberty.

I've started giving her a big bowl of baby rice in the morning, which she loves. Holding off anything else at the moment as she seems to be satisfied with that.

Can't keep up with all the name changes! Which reminds me.... I need to think of an appropriate festive name.

Hope you are all doing fantastic.

Toothy

littledonkeyrach · 15/12/2004 09:55

Lovely to hear from you!!!
Sounds like you are doing well.

Evie has the snottiest nose ever!! She has been up all night so we are all knackered. Have resorted to medised, she is sleeping!! Poor thing is even drinking less than usual.

Toothache · 15/12/2004 10:04

Thanks Littlerach. Beth and I are choked with the cold too. She woke up for her 4.30am feed and never reallt settled again. My head is so full of fluid that my balance is all off! I keep getting really dizzy. The men of the house seemed to have escaped it so far, but I'm sure when they catch it it'll be WAAAAAY worse than the cold!!

littledonkeyrach · 15/12/2004 10:05

You mean man flu!!!

Xmasspongecake · 15/12/2004 11:35

Hey Toothache. Great to hear from you and wonderful to hear all is well with you and Beth. Big bouncy babies are great. It all comes off once they start running around so it's good to have a solid base .
Sounds like we're all full of cold. Harry woke up with dried snot all over his face this morning - lovely. He's also been very restless the last 3 nights so I'm pretty knackered now - may have to get some of this Medised stuff.
To make matters worse dd was screaming with an earache last night too. Gave her a dose of Calpol which didn't help so added a dose of Nurofen on top . That did the trick but I'm not keen on drugging her up that way. Still, she seems fine this morning. Think it's just her sinuses as she still can't really blow her nose properly.
And you're right - the cold is far worse for the men. Dh has had 4 days off work with it so far while the rest of us just get on with it .

merrykittymas · 15/12/2004 13:10

hiya toothache so good to hear from you glad Beth is doing great. I got another snotty one here.

Well we took the plunge and she had banana mixed with milk on Monday and baby rice yesterday. She loved the banana wasn't as keen on the baby rice (I don't blame her) today I'll put some banana in her rice.

She's still a monster with daytime naps yesterday we had 2 x 20 mins all day but she slept 11-10.30 with a 6am feed and straight back to sleep. I'm going to have to start pulling her days forward to get an evening back but it's ok just now she's very content so I don't think shes overtired but I worry she doesn't get enough sleep. I'm waiting until we move then we'll get sorted somehow.

oh toothache we are moving back home next year hopefully either Glasgow or Ayrshire, when we do I would love to meet up with you and Beth.

merrykittymas · 15/12/2004 13:11

whats medised and what does it do?

Xmasspongecake · 15/12/2004 15:23

Kitty it's another paracetamol suspension for kids but it also includes an antihitamine which works as a sedative so it helps them sleep peacefully when they have colds, teething etc
