Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Hi Guys - my internet has been off for nearly a week - i didn't know how i was going to cope . Evie is sitting next to me now blowing raspberry's at me - God, she is so gorgeous!

Evie is rolling over all the time now (even in the night). She hasn't mastered how to get back over onto her front yet but is good at moving her head to the side.
To get her off to sleep without rolling over i roll up 2towells and put them either side of her, then when she is asleep i move them. Every time i wake up in the night though she is either on her side or front. Not much else i can do about that though.

Had a complete panic with her on Friday - had to rush her up to A&E as she was struggling to breathe, lip turned blue etc, I was a complete wreck.
Hopsital thouroly checked her over (4 different people) and said there was no explaination, just one of those things - nothing clinically wrong with her though.

How is everyone else getting on? ?
Tangerinecath - i learnt that about the carrot the hard way - i have had to throw away 4 bibs, 2 muslin and 2 tops so far.

sweetkitty · 29/11/2004 19:11

God Springchicken what a horrible thing to go through, poor babe and poor you glad she's well now though.

Dino - good to see you, my hairs the same falling out all over the place poor Abbie's always got them in her mouth cos they are long and blonde you see them more as well.

Abbie's just learned to blow raspberries as well, it's so funny she lies there blowing them at you and giggling. She never stops "talking" either and she shouts at you.

I'm still toying with the weaning - part of me says wait the other part says go for it. I think I'm going to start her in 3 weeks she'll be 22 weeks then thats kind of 5 months in the middle of 4-6 months. I'm going to keep on with the breastfeeding now I'm not going back to work end of January why not? it's going well and she's happy with it.

littlerach · 01/12/2004 09:51

Hope you are ok, SC, that must have been horrible. How is th ehousemove going?

We put Evie in her own room last night, had the monitor on full!! She was fine, DD1 woke her up at 6.30 when she saw the advent calender!! Evie now wakes at 3am each morning to feed, suppose I can't complain as there was so much concern over her weight gain. She adores solids, even though sh eis young to be weaned, it had improved her weight gain, as she has stabilised on the 9th centile now. I think she will be tiny always! She weighs 12lbs now, still in 0-3 clothes!! Sooo cute in her hat and mittens. She has also learnt to blow raspberries - very nice!!

SpringChicken · 01/12/2004 10:09

DD thought it was hilarious this morning to blow a raspberry after just finishing her baby rice - I was covered

Housemove is going well thanks LR - the people we are buying from are emigrating so we thought they would try and hold this up whilst their visa's etc came through - however, the comfirmed yesterday that as soon as we are ready to move the will rent if needs be - YIPPEEEEEE - Just waiting to sign the contract on our purchase as everything is already signed for our sale.
If everything goes smoothly from now on, we should be in just before Xmas - Fingers crossed.

Were you nervous with Evie going in her own room? We have decided she will when we move.

Don't you find there are loads of Evie's about now??? When DD was first born it seemed like a really unusual name, now i know about 6!! How annoying

littlerach · 01/12/2004 10:33

I only know you and I!!!
Yes, was v nervous about her going in own room. It isn't next to ours either, as DD! wanted that one, as it is overlooking horses!! But I had the monitor on so loud, you could hear her every move1 Only thing was, she seemed much colder than when she was in our room, needs more blankets I feel!!
Is Evie on 3 meals a day yet? Mine is on 2, we go to USA on boxing day, so feel that everything will change then anyway, whether good or bad, we shall see!

SpringChicken · 01/12/2004 10:36

She has been on baby rice for breakfast with a bottle, then 2 bottles during the day, then her dinner and a bottle at night.
However, the last 2 nights she has woken up at 5 deciding to play - i think she is hungry so am going to introduce lunch today and see how she gets on.

Am really unsure about when i am supposed to be taking bottles away and replacing them with juice - any advice???

USA sounds lovely - visiting family?

littlerach · 01/12/2004 10:43

Yes, the in laws!! DD1 will pop soon, she is so excited!

You should keep bottles of milk until at least 6 months I think. You can introduce beakers with meals now, either with formula or water. My personal opinion is not to give juice, but it's up to the individual and baby! The advice is to wean them off bottles by a yr I think, all to do with teeth!! With DD1 we kept her on a bottle in morning and last thing at night, when she was up to 3 meals a day, we used a beaker for mid morning and mid afternoon feeds. As long as they are getting a pint a day when fully weaned I think they are fine. It's all a case of trying things and seeing how they work for you. You may find she doesn't want an afternoon bottle if she has lunch, as there might not be a big enough gap between meals, IYSWIM!!

littlerach · 01/12/2004 10:44

Meant to say, don't take my post as gospel, things may have changed since DD!!!

sponge · 01/12/2004 13:09

Back to work today .
Almost cried when I left Harry at nursery but managed not to be a complete wimp - just. Really missing him though. It feels quite surreal being here.
I'm only doing 3 days a week for December and then full time from Jan. Necessity really Dino. They gave me 15 weeks money which I strecthed to 4 months with some holiday pay. Now I need to go back a0 to start earning again and b) because my boss has been made redundant so I'm now in charge and therefore have to be here.

Harry has given up sleeping through the night altogether but he only wakes up once and feeds and gets back to sleep quite quickly.
The good thing is that he now goes to bed at about 8/8.30 so we have got a bit of evening back.
I guess we could wake him up at 10/10.30 for a feed and see if that helps him sleep through but the couple of times we've tried it he hasn't been that interested and has still woken up so I figure we just let him sleep and enjoy the peace and quiet .
He's desparate to roll over. Gets right up on his side and rocks but hasn't quite managed the final tip. Can't be long now.
He grins and giggles but isn't blowing raspberries yet. I shall look forward to that.

SpringCrimboTurkey · 01/12/2004 13:56

Gosh Sponge, I really feel for you.
I am too returning to work in January when everyone goes back after Xmas.
I am dreading it - DD is going to be with my SIL so that isn't too bad but i just hate being away from her.

Plus i only plan on going back part time but don't know how we are going to cope financially -We have just bought a new house and the mortgage is over twice what we pay here - what with my wages halving i just don't know how we are going to manage but there is no way i am going back to work full time.

sponge · 01/12/2004 14:30

On the up side I now have more time to Mumsnet .

sweetkitty · 01/12/2004 17:02

springchicken/crimbo turkey nice name change!

Abbie's fine I've just finished putting up the decorations and she keeps staring at the fibre optic tree and I had tears in my eyes when I bought her a "to our daughter on her first christmas card" I know sentimental crap really but it's her first christmas.

Seems so long ago since last Christmas when she was a tiny peanut then we had the two bad bleeds and thought we had lost her and now she's hear and the whole world revolves around her.

I still can't believe I won't be going back to work in January I haven't told my boss yet I'll take the full year off then resign in July. Hopefully I will get a place on the PGCE course in August so at least I'll get a student loan. Things will be tough financially for a while but it's for the best - we can get a 4 bed detached house in Scotland for a lot less than our flat down here so we will have more house and less mortgage.

XmasQuackers · 01/12/2004 20:20

Hi everyone, sorry not posted for AGES!!! Just caught up on all your news though. It's great to hear from you all!!!! I intend to step up my mumsnet postings again though now things are more settled!!
Georgina now 17 weeks, 13 lb's 2oz and having lunch a bit of dinner. She's a feisty bugger, knows what she wants and almost demands her bathtime routine! Hilarious every day around 5.30! Just trying to get the day sleep sorted and seems to be going well thanks again to GF!!
I can;t help thinking all the time about 'this time last year'!!!!
I saw her on a scan at 7 weeks as we thought we'd lost her too and there was a heartbeat! I'll never forget it!!! Fond memories eh!!

SpringCrimboTurkey · 02/12/2004 09:13

Me too Xmas Quacks - it was in about 2 weeks time last year that we thought i was loosing DD and was laid off work until January.
What an awful time it was but she is here now and doing great!

Off to get weighed again this morning - 2 weeks ago she was 14lb 1oz - wonder what the little bloater is going to be today?

sponge · 02/12/2004 10:09

Wow, I hadn't realised how many of us went through the same thing this time last year. I spent the day before Xmas Eve sitting in A&E waiting to be seen following an early bleed. Had a scan (after about 10 hours waiting!) and found the little fella with his heart beating at 8 weeks.
He seemed to do fine in nursery yesterday. All the girls love him because he's the smallest so he gets loads of cuddles. Probably lots more attention than I give him. But when I picked him up he couldn't stop smiling at me which was lovely .
The only downside was that he didn't take his milk very well, only 3 or 4 oz at each feed, so although I got a full 5oz bottle down him at 8pm he woke up at 2am and again at 6.30 wanting more grub. Oh well. I'm sure he'll do better as he gets used to them.
I'm out tonight on my own for the first time. I'm a bit worried about leaving Harry with dh as he doesn't cope well when he cries, but hopefully I can get him into bed before I go and avoid any problems.

SpringCrimboTurkey · 02/12/2004 11:08

Just got back and the little chunk weighs 14lb 9oz and she is 20 weeks tomorrow.

She is on the under average line for her weight but she is very tall so i suppose it has to spread further!

I'm thinking along the lines of Super Super Model earning mummy and daddy lots and lots of money .

Hope you enjoy your night out Sponge - DP and I have managed a few nigths out together recently too - everyone is beggin to take DD of our hands, they are all fighting over her.

christmaskitty · 02/12/2004 16:46

hi all

sct - Abbie was 13lb 4ozs nearly 2 weeks ago she's 20 weeks on tuesday shes on the 25th centile and is long and thin too i'm not worried she's bright and active

so who's started weaning then? I'm so undecided DP says weekend before Xmas (22-23weeks) I dunno she's still going through the night, my mum thinks I'm crazy she had me (29 week prem baby) on tatties and mince at 8 weeks and boasts about it. No wonder I turned out the way I did!

DingDongDinosaurOnHigh · 02/12/2004 17:10

Blake was weighed last Thursday and was 16lbs 8oz. His weight gain has slowed a bit but that didn't really surprise me as he had a really bad cold and hadn't been feeding as much as normal.

Sponge - hope it hasn't been too awful going into work. I don't get paid any more after the end of this month either (apart from SMP) but we are going to live off some of our savings for a couple of months. I went back when DS1 was only four omonths old and hated it and vowed never again.

SpringCrimboTurkey · 02/12/2004 17:20

Evie's weaning is going brilliantly - she is on 3 meals a day at the minute along with her usual bottles.
Just waiting to decide when i should start taking one of the bottles away and starting her on water or juice.

Dino - that sounds awful going back to work when DS was 4 months. I am dreading going back to work in January

DingDongDinosaurOnHigh · 02/12/2004 17:25

i cried for an entire day...

XmasQuackers · 03/12/2004 20:39

Hi! I'm going to atay at home a bit longer this time too! With DD1 I couldn;t wait to go back, but this time I'm trying to enjoy every day at home. I think we'll be using 'other sources' too for time being as we do need the income but might get by a bit longer. However I'll be doing the nurse bank as an auxiliary as and when fits in, looking forward to that. Then aim to start my nurse training in 2007. That's the plan anyway!

nicnee · 03/12/2004 20:46

Hello all,
I feel like a bit of an intruder to your long thread, but I am new to mumsnet and I had my DS on 12th July, my 1st baby. He is now 20 weeks now, and he is huge!!! He was 20lb 2oz at 17 weeks, and I haven't had him weighed since, but I would guess he is over 21lb now. My back is sore!!! He is on the 99.6th percentile. (DH is 6 ft 5, I am 5ft 10)
Motherhood has been a rollercoaster and I hated the first 2-3 months, but I am loving it now, even though we have little problems like everyone does.
Will keep an eye on this thread since all our little ones are a similar age.

christmaskitty · 03/12/2004 23:52

hi nicnee welcome to mumsnet it's a great place I dunno what I would do without it.

wow your little man is doing well my daughter is 8 days younger and is only 13lbs odds she's just started wearing 3-6 months clothes and they look so big on her.

I'm still thinking about the weaning thing it's so hard, load of mums start at 16-17 weeks and their babies are doing great yet they tell you they don't need anything else till 6 months. It's so confusing, I keep thinking I'll split the difference and start about 22 weeks but maybe I should hang off a bit oh I don't know (wheres the confused smiley).

I'm quite pleased I'm not going back to work now money will be tough but I'm sure we will cope, she'll be 13 months when I go to college (if they let me in that is) so it shouldn't be too bad and we'll be abck in Scotland by then so plenty of babysitters. I have seen my dream home on the net within our budget it's exactly what I want if only it was still there when we sell this place and DP gets a new job.

MrsEvs · 04/12/2004 05:45

Hello All, lovely to hear all your tales as usual. Haven't written for a while as went to visit some friends up in Connecticut.

Phoebe is loving her solids. So funny every time I introduce something new, she looks so suprised at the first taste. She has rice with fruit for brekkie and usually some veg in the evening, but she is still having around 25oz of formula (have now totally stopped pumping as of last week - felt bad about it, but I managed 4 months which is more than I thought I would when we first realised she wouldn't feed normally, and I have to say I feel like I've got hours of my life back!).

I wasn't sure about the water/juice thing. Phoebe has formula from a cup with her veg, but is it OK to give them other drinks now? She's nearly 19 weeks?

Poor little thing hasn't been weighed since she was 6 weeks old due to our move etc, but she is having her 2nd round of jabs on Tues, so we'll find out then - she's a biggun though, I reckon she weighs around 18lbs. In 6-9 months clothes and some 9-12!

Giggling, blowing raspberries and all of those gorgeous things - so sweet Rolled over once but not really interested, just wants to sit up. Spends hours every day lifting her head and shoulders off the floor and straining to get up, she's nowhere close yet of course, but desperate to do it. She can sit up udaided for about 10-15 seconds if I position her there, and she thinks that's hilarious

Got my Mum over from the UK this week which is bliss, and my MIL next week so I'll have lots of help. Me and DH might even go out for a meal together this weekend - what a luxury!!

littlerach · 04/12/2004 10:52

Quacks, have you done auxiliary nursing before? I was offered a postion in nursing bank, but turned it down, as I can work such limited hrs, and didn't want too many hrs!
Evie loves all her food, except milk! She is tiny, on 9th centile, weighs 12lbs!! Last lot of jabs this week.
We have put her back in our room, she was waking up so much and waking DD1 up too. We are off to states soon, so all routines will fly out the window then.
